To me, the ghazal singing commence with the advent of Kundan Lal Saigal. The genre continued with Begum Akhtar. The most important feature of singing of these genus was that they never sang merely the words of the respective lyrics, but the thought "उन्होंने अलफ़ाज़ को नहीं जज़्बात को गाया !' That makes these two genius different from all others. Any doubt !
Great poetry, sung by a great singer. Compliments to Hindustan Records for bringing them to the public. Calling them Hindi songs is a travesty, symbolic of a mind-set .

I listen to his songs and I cry. We lost our heritage because of Pakistan. Ghalib, Zauq, Meer and others, and all the old great singers and actors live or lie in eternal sleep in India.
Who cares. If you can hear you know what is being sung or you can find faults instead of letting the music and the ghazal wrap you around in its depths.

From the age of 15 i became a Saigal Bhakt.Now i am 80and i love him just like i was 15 years of age.
Tam also fan of kLSaigal My age is 85yrs.my elder brother wasalso fan of k LSaigal and was singing his songs.on Harmoniium.
