This is something that will for sure make Jeollado people proud of themselves including your grandfather. Thanks for this moving video. You're amazing, Ethan.

Beautiful video, brother. We have to visit Tongyeong together. I want to show you just how special Gyeongsangnam-do food can really be. Jaepi, bangah, etc... Thanks for the beautiful story! Have great travels.

Has anyone visited a little island you have to take a ferry from Tongyeong called Yokjido? I'm thinking about visiting there to check out Mokgwa village if indeed they still have lots of cats there....kinda like Japan's Cat Island. Yokjido might be Korea's best comparison to Cat Island.

Once again. I was in 2009 in Jeollado Mokpo and around it was brilliant very nice people very nice country side i loved it and nearly every single thing was better there than here in germany. the comparison between your grandpa and jeollado seems kinda fitting. it describe a feeling of warmness and care i felt and miss since then.
Yes real honest interest i experienced as well. not a single bad moment. Everybody was so kind.
They way you talk about your Grandfather and the area makes my eyes water.

    Such an involving story.
I think this will be my first destination to Korea, I dislike touristy places but and have made it seem compelling to me.
I will need to hire a translator though.

    • @livetravelasia

Yeah these far off places definitely more challenging with only English but kakao maps and taxi for transportation and pointing at things for menu and price will pretty much solve most logistic issues at least

A fascinating insight. We’ve been to South Korea several times, but never that corner of the country. It’s so real - in its people and the countryside. For what it’s worth, I’d never use the US as a comparison for its values - such a terrible place in terms of attitudes to each other and outside cultures.
