Yes! Jamie Oliver gets it! Spice up your Caipirinha with fruit! I am telling this t everyone and noone outside Brazil knows about these variations. Orange, kiwi, strawberry, blueberry its all good. Just did one with fresh cherries, just mashed them in the glass, stones in an all. Even better with a dash of cherry liqeur. Heering is great. Moscovado sugar and ordinary sugar cane granulate is what I got here where I live. Its so much better than the white tasteless stuff we normally use. And its not expensive.
WOW, Jamie, you've been in Rio in the beginning of August! What a coincidence. I've been there at the same time. I arrived ther on August 4th. Just to remind you that I'm Brazilian and live in São Paulo. But what really matters is your fantastic recipe. As usual. And I love cachaça. Cheers. Saúde!
Awesome! Never tried the Dragon Fruit variation, but I live in Brazil and have made it my personal life goal to drink a caipirinha with every possible fruit known to man. I'm pretty sure there must be some poisonous ones out there, so I'm keeping those right at the end of my list for when I have nothing else left to live for. But they'll still be just before pineapple. For some reason I despise pineapple, so that's going to be the absolute last one, right on my death bed. Just giving you guys a heads up so you can contact the Guinness Book of World Records for when that happens.
Mexico's version is named Iguanas with tequila for the ladies or mezcal for real. Mezcal de Puntas, is a variety superstrong , with almost 80% alcohol and fits great with the fruit.
it's rush to make a classic caipirinha with you aren't in Brazil cause of the sugar. Our sugar are made from sugar cane, from there we have a white type of sugar, in Europe the most common sugar are made from sugar-beet, or they simply uses a brown sugar. So, next time, try a sugar cane, white sugar! I've loved the color of this drinks.
Hey guys, just a tip: no one in Brazil actually uses brown sugar... I don't know why everyone in Europe uses it. Even the cachaça Brand Pitu sells lemons in Europe with the recipe with brown sugar. It's just weird :)
Ingredients.. Like fruits Jamie used can easily be found on tropical countries, say here in Philippines depending on season. So I guess you should look for tropical fruit sellers in your area to make it easy for you. About the spirit he used, I'm having trouble finding it too.. But you can always do replacements 😄 Cheers!
The original ingredients should be available in large supermarket chains relatively worldwide (in highly populated areas). The more rare fruits can be found in world food shops, online and even at your likely market! Fingers crossed for you!
He could use the most traditional Brazilian cachaça , 51 that all brazilian knows.. but is not everyone that knows cachaça 51 has a pretty good quality! I just learnt that in a bartender course. But people are always paying just for a brand, maybe Leblon is doing some marketing there ^ ^
* Drey * it's usualy impossible find good cachaças out of brazil. Here we love cachaças like : salinas, seleta, boazinha, nega fulo, weber haus, rainha paraibana. Now leblon is a piece of shit, just like leblon and 51.
51 is actually mass produced cachaça, and it´s not that good. There are literaly hundreds of smaller distileries all across Brazil making incredible cachaça, but as Pedro said, most of it doesn´t sell abroad.
51 is bottom of the barrel. Leblon is pretty good for its price point. I can only get Pitu here which is not very good on its own but okay in Caipirinhas.
Thanks God that Jamie is a controled adult young man and brazilians dont like to party that much! Cause every other person'd party till sunshine with that and some other good stuff! lol

To be fair, it's just a drink recipe. Unless he'd substituted cachaca for Diet Sprite and added chilli jam to add some kick there's not many ways to fuck it up to badly. BTW what's Brasillian way to say Haiya?
yes it will taste different but it's still pretty good :) you can actually put pretty much any white spirit you like, I've tried vodka and tequila and they're all nice. Cachaca is the best tho
Yes, but when you change the spirit, it's not a Caipirinha anymore. When you muddle lime and add rum, I think it's a nice view to try a Daiquiri. Anyway, with rum it's called "Caipiríssima" - with vodka it's "Caipiroska, by the way.
claragrica Really? I thought cariocas used more cachaça than vodka to make a regular Caipirinha. In the south it's anoying, people everytime use vodka and still call it Caipirinha. I saw in Rio that people doesn't have a prejudice against cachaça like southern brazilians, who thinks that cachaça is something cheap, bad and worst than whisky, vodka, rum and everything else. Dumbness...
The vodka version is called caipiroska(/vodka), but is there a name for a gin version of the drink? I started making my "gimlets" this way even before I knew about this fine Brazilian drink but is there a name for it? Maybe I should start calling it the "Brazilian Gimlet" now, haha!
Man...youre a sincere seeker of the truth! lol We dont have a name for caipirinha with Gin because we usually dont drink Gin...its not so popular around here...but some people sure drink it...but if we'd name it, it'd be "CaipiGin" (Caipi+Gin) ;D
Love this Jamie! However the OCD side of me was slightly cringing over the mess you could have made when you precariously lifted the tray of drinks in the air. It's not you, it's me. I'm working on it... *breathes into paper bag*
Morkradd Depends on the state. Brazil is huge, and contrary to the US and Russia for example, it spans north/south, not east/west. That means that in some states (like Amazonas) it's even hotter than summer, because it doesn't rain as much, but in others (like Rio Grande do Sul), it can snow sometimes. Hell, I live in the capital of my state, and winter days here can get pretty warm while nights are chilly, but when I go to a rural area 2h away, I need to pack extra clothes just to be somewhat comfortable. Asphalt and cement absorb heat, so city centres are much warmer than the countryside.
+Sandraudiga Váli Because brown sugar leaves a stronger taste in the drink . It has a striking presence . He steals the show (brown sugar), we never use brown sugar in caipirinha.
They are like cousins, but taste very different. Rum is made fermenting the molasses, cachaça is about ferment the juice of sugar cane. This results in a very particular flavour to cachaça. Rum, comparing to cachaça, is something neutral. In theory it's very similar, but in taste are two different worlds.
Next time you comment, might i suggest that you use a more constructive language? How about: "I would recommend that you remove the central vein of the Lime, it will make it so much better" or even "Cut out the central vein of the Lime before you muddle it, make it so much better, really worth the 2 sec."
and its funny that people from the country where people throw airplanes on buildings are so scared of a mosquito that is only a menace por pregnant women

Amazing!! It's really fun to try new flavors for caipirinha.. but nothing beats the tradicional cachaça+limão+açucar
Super tasty and refreshing. Love it.
thats how i love my caipirinha. four of them ^^
Jamie. All of'em.
You are Amazing, Brazil Is Amazing, Rio Is Amazing, Caipirinha Is Amazing. Cheers mate

+Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube What volume glasses are you using?:) bought everything for making these!
Lovely video Jamie! Glad to see you enjoying my country. I never though about using rapadura to sweet a caipirinha before... great idea!
Give it a try! :D Cheers for the top comment, mate
I tried the middle two so far, unbelievable !! Thanks for the twisted recipes. ^^
You're SO welcome Philippe!

Hi Jamie!

You have to try the Poncha of Madeira (Portugal), It's an amazing cocktail.
Cheers! :D
Deu agua na boca
Looks amazing! Definitely have to try this :)
amazing !!
Never thought of using those kinds of sugar, I bet they will give an amazing different taste, thanks a lot for the tips mate :]
If you cut out the lemon kernel, it gets better, sweeter and less bitter.
Awesome! Never tried the Dragon Fruit variation, but I live in Brazil and have made it my personal life goal to drink a caipirinha with every possible fruit known to man.

That passionfruit was gigantic compared to the normal, small ones I buy in Sweden!
Amazing how food changes so drastically depending upon the environment it's been grown in.
Mexico's version is named Iguanas with tequila for the ladies or mezcal for real.
Mezcal de Puntas, is a variety superstrong , with almost 80% alcohol and fits great with the fruit.
I love yuo brazilian
Aleluia! Caipirinha!
The Dragonfruit One has the exact same colour as beetroot
awesome
Incredible place to film!

i think he got to taste to much of those drinks...he feels happy :D
I'm quite sure he's a bit drunk (after 4:10). Which is totally fine... it's Rio! lol
Our Jamie? Tispy? Never!
I noticed it myself. But who i am to blame. I just made 3 caipirinhas and i feel tipsy myself. What a great cocktail! Thank you Jamie.
He’s funnier after getting a bit drunk lol
Use Cachaca Ypioca , please !
please come to goiânia
Rapadura one is great idea. But the original use white sugar, not brown.
Hey guys, just a tip: no one in Brazil actually uses brown sugar... I don't know why everyone in Europe uses it. Even the cachaça Brand Pitu sells lemons in Europe with the recipe with brown sugar. It's just weird :)
Nice tip Gabe - thanks for sharing!
@@DrinksTube btw I loved the sugar tips!
Love the look of all of these tho don't think I'll get the ingredients v easily
Ingredients.. Like fruits Jamie used can easily be found on tropical countries, say here in Philippines depending on season. So I guess you should look for tropical fruit sellers in your area to make it easy for you.
About the spirit he used, I'm having trouble finding it too.. But you can always do replacements 😄 Cheers!
You can replace cachaça for light rum or even vodka.
+Ineffable Paradox oh.. Thank you! I'm really planning for light rum replacement since it is also distilled from sugar cane. 👍🏻
The original ingredients should be available in large supermarket chains relatively worldwide (in highly populated areas). The more rare fruits can be found in world food shops, online and even at your likely market! Fingers crossed for you!
também pode substituir a beterraba por suco em pó ou algum corante
He could use the most traditional Brazilian cachaça , 51 that all brazilian knows.. but is not everyone that knows cachaça 51 has a pretty good quality! I just learnt that in a bartender course. But people are always paying just for a brand, maybe Leblon is doing some marketing there ^ ^

Can you make some drinks that we can make it Home!!! I'm never gonna make this at home!
Tanmay Bhave just use Brown sugar or regular sugar, it works the same
Tanmay Bhave lime, sugar, vodka, and ice.
regular sugar, lime or passion fruit or strawberries, vodka and ice. how u cannot have that ?
Can you make Peruvian Chicha Morada? Please and thank you!!
Oooo, we'll pop it on the list!

The team! :D (Lucky for us)

Only one mistake. You shld cut off the withe part of the lime if not your caipirinha will be bitter. It will be a proper Caipirinha ;)
To be fair, it's just a drink recipe. Unless he'd substituted cachaca for Diet Sprite and added chilli jam to add some kick there's not many ways to fuck it up to badly. BTW what's Brasillian way to say Haiya?
you need use "51" its the right for that drink , and say hi to "Minas Gerais" my country
51 cê tá zuano minha cara.
Go with Coluninha cachaça. Pure sugar-cane joy.
cara 51 e a melhor pra caipirinha mano
nem adianta tentar sonhar com outra
Arthur De Leniq Experimenta Coluninha, Vale Verde, Seleta, Salinas, etc e depois me conta.
Sou de MG também, btw.
e nois manooooooooooooooo
could you use rum for this? since its also made from sugar cane?

if you shake the capirinha the taste it's better

I'm madly jealous of this array of sugars
Is it a special kind of Dragon Fruit? The ones I have tried had more of a white "flesh" with just a splash of red "flesh" around the edge..
I guess the fruit you get elsewhere are not as ripe so they survive transport...
There are actually two different types of dragon fruit. Red and white
red ones are sweeter and more tasty than the white ones
Queria intender oque ele fala
Could I use Brown sugar again instead of Rapadura? They don't sell it here :(
*Uses brown sugar to make caipirinha*
Brazil wants to know your location
Tangerina, cinnamon and pink spicy is the better caipirinha

cachaça leblon nao dá
0:32 seconds in, and you already made a mistake. By not cutting off any of the peel, or the center of the lime, the drink will be bitter.
Ti manca una "raglia" e stai a posto, fratello

MrExillion no!

can we get some alcohol free drinks as in mocktails..
Absolutely! How about this to start: ua-cam.com/video/VWoLEVGLNNw/v-deo.html

if you call 15ºC cold as fuck, then you might have a problem dude
Don't know where ya are, but I'm fucking cold, man. Specially at evenings and nights. Maybe RJ isn't as bad.
15 degrees in winter time? Dang, over here it gets down to -35 at winter, you should consider yourself lucky =D

why not

Hello big bollocks! Niiiiice caipirinhas and amazing place!
Makin' a Traditional Caipi without taking out the central vein of the Lime?
Are you serious? That is gonna be the worst Caipirinha of your life!
Next time you comment, might i suggest that you use a more constructive language? How about: "I would recommend that you remove the central vein of the Lime, it will make it so much better" or even "Cut out the central vein of the Lime before you muddle it, make it so much better, really worth the 2 sec."
Or he could talk like he want's to.
You can make it with or without the vein depending on each person's preferences.
Not everyone does that and the caipirinha can still be good.
And why are you supposed to do that exactly?
He forgot the most important ingredient: the Zika spice.
why you
you know whats funny? in slang portuguese, calling something "zika" can be equivalent to sick or dope in america.
now you can find this one in florida too
and its funny that people from the country where people throw airplanes on buildings are so scared of a mosquito that is only a menace por pregnant women
+neymar top you got no chill man. but I think Brazil is not that bad. I lived there for 3 years and I liked it there.
This is not how u make a proper Caipirinha.
Cool, you need to make a video and show us how!
Ian Loughead I could, but i'm not really into making videos. If u really wanna now how to make a proper Caipirinha i could explain it to u. I'm not sure if u are trolling and i have better things to do, but incase u are interested just reply.
I am curious, so explain it to me.
curious as well
I am totally curious. A quick Google search has shown me that every other site on the internet makes it by muddling a lime, adding sugar and then adding ice/alcohol. Which is exactly what Jamie did.
