For over three years I have been watching UA-cam videos about all of these subjects, trying to join the dots and make sense of what I see happening around me. I have shared many video's and talked about these things with people. I feel that a lot of the people think that I am either mad, a conspiracy theorist or have just got lost down the UA-cam rabbit hole. Yep, unfortunately people won't accept information unless they "discover" it for themselves. I was a proper leftie, but since we have been compelled to agree with illogical statements like "transwomon are actual women" (rather than transwomon are transwomon but should be accepted as women as much as is socially acceptable to biological women) and "mostly peaceful protests" I've started digging into the foundations of many of the beliefs of the left and found that many are as shaky as those on the right. Given that where I live the progressive orthodoxy is just that, saying things that are perfectly true outside of that orthodoxy will see you branded a heretic, or more likely a "bigot/nasi/trumpist". I guess I just need to wait for the lunacy of the current identity politics age to become so obvious (see tiktok videos of drag queens twerking in front of children who are in attendance with their parents) that those around me start to discover the truth behind many of their reflexive beliefs. I can't send this video to all those people, however, and expect them to suddenly snap out of their belief systems: they need to find the truth, or a closer approximation of it, for themselves.
James has incredible tools, helped me communicate concerns with these topics with my manager back in 2020 without sounding like a lunatic or even a conservative (not saying that’s bad, just not my views and didn’t want to sound combative).

Madison resident here. I can attest to the rock story. It was a very cool and geologically interesting enormous boulder. They hauled it to a state park some 50 miles away where it couldn't "harm" anyone. Literally, they said the boulder was harming students who had to walk by it on their way to class. All because ONE article a hundred years ago referenced it using a colloquial term for black rocks used back in those days. No one called it that. No one knew about it. It wasn't a nickname for the boulder. People who complained about the boulder being moved were called racists. Because they were insensitive to the harm the boulder was causing. Absolutely every argument for leaving the boulder alone was met with "you're only saying that because you're actually a racist. There's nothing to discuss, and if you insist on wanting a discussion, then you just want to cause harm." If someone said they remember enjoying walking by the boulder when they went to the UW 50 years ago, the response would be something along the lines of, "That's because everyone on campus was white then and you wish it was like that again. You are causing pain by saying these insensitive things, so just stop talking ."

I lived in Germany NRW, had 8 years old son and I am scared and I cannot understand how he was at such speed radicalised, I feel powerless... The terms he came up about veganism (that we are not at home) energy etc. He had a tantrum (softly said) this week when was cold and I startet to fire in fireplace.
How is it going? Hang in there, and speak to him about these things. Yes, this garbage is really screwing with children's heads. Watch some Bjorn Lomborg to start with. Let him know there are different ideas on this. He sounds very sensitive, and picks up on what people say around him. You need to give him a very strong value system, teach him to be a good person. The Ten Commanments, Golden Rule, etc. You don't need to be religious to do this. But, hey, maybe go to a good church anyway that you like just to meet people, and see what happens. I remember in 2005-2010 at McGill University, Montreal. Every student running for student leadership positions (council presidents, etc..) was running on a platform of sustainable development. I was a bit of lefty myself at the time and even I thought it was strange. There were these statements that each put out, seemingly independently, about their commitment to sustainable development. It just felt like a pile of meaningless buzzwords at the time.
Again, great video. I wanted to posit that SEL, as a tool or technique is very effective, hence its use to introduce topics and brainwash our children. However, and this is my key point, as a tool it is also very effective in helping children learn in general. Not all children learn the same way (stating the obvious sorry). I've been a teacher for decades, but not in organized school environment as my volunteer activities. I'm a retired Big 4 (was 6 back then) business tech consultant. The last few years, I've worked with kids to deprogram the BS they've learned it school. Parents learned a lot with the Covid Remote Learning. Sadly, so many kids are so messed up bringing them back, even just academically, is near impossible. Having debated a 10-year-old for over an hour on New York being a state and not a country, presenting countless examples of proof, only to hear "my teacher says New York is a country, so there, you are wrong, and I will never believe you", the depth of the brainwashing is clear. The parents have been brainwashed in school as well, so it is next to impossible to get any traction to help the child. The parents who care are devastated at what their children believe. I've watched parents have emotional breakdowns when the child rejects a fact in favor of what the teacher has said - especially when what the teacher said is nowhere near reality. Watching homework sessions where the parents end up screaming, crying and then the kid is screaming and crying all over a simple fact not even math related. The parents don't' even try the math. The control of the school is frightening. I am not sure what is going to happen, but it is scary. Common Core was the red flag that the gates are wide open, and they are coming for the kids, but we tin hatters were ignored. Now we pay the price.

@@piershartley8676 Maybe you should hear the entire recording and make up your mind then. These kids are really messed up and the parents can't deal with them, the schools can't deal with them. They don't have mental challenges in the traditional way, but they are mentally degraded with respect to Executive Function, the ability to discern situations and perform critical thinking analysis. This is because of the current programs of the school systems. A kid that fails 1st grade should not go to 2nd, and so on. This kid had failed every grade from 1st through 4th and was still passed through the system. He continues to be passed on and now he is on the path to prison. No Joke. He should never have been let down by the school system, but he was and what for Money of course. At least I try to help and have been volunteer teaching the at risk, children and adults for decades. Some succeed and some don't. Depends on how damaged they are. it is a terrible thing to watch a good kid at heart go down the drain. By the way, how long have you been working with kids? Maybe you should check out the schools that are having to put armed police in jr and high schools to protect the teachers and other students from being attacked. The bus driver shortage is not because people don't want to do it. Do some research and try working with a dozen of these kids and then lets see how you feel.

I did speak to the school teachers and principal and had meetings with them and the parents. I even spoke to the school board that this was happening to the kids in this school. They said that wasn't their job to sort out. We have to go back to basics. Are you an educator? You seem to have some insights into the workings.

When parents complain, we are told "This is the new way math is taught. It's best if you don't try to interfere, because you don't understand it." I put myself through college tutoring math to students of all ages, elementary through high school and college students. I was really good at helping kids and adults understand and enjoy math. But I couldn't make heads or tails of my son's math assignments and text books. They have these methods that do not work for teaching math. They boast that they do not teach underlying principles because it stifles imagination. They boast that they don't do drills, because that's "drill and kill." Children are supposed to invent mathematics on their own, and by talking about how to solve problems in small groups. Seriously. They call it "discovery math."
I've also been pulled into a lot of this stuff as a scientist. UNESCO is a serious part of the problem. UNESCO has long been authoritarian and does not believe in the most fundamental human rights. UNESCO officially believes that humans should be considered the same as robots, livestock, slaves, computers, animals, etc. They have historically called this Mental Engineering. I come at this as a computer scientist who also tends to have to work in a lot of other fields as I am also a software engineer. I was surprised to find that not only is there such as thing as software engineering but also mental engineering. UNESCO has been explicitly against, truth, thinking (yes, thought) and science. What I don't don't understand is why western countries still permit any ties with UNESCO at all. Along with the likes of WHO, ADL and UNICEF it should be a proscribed organisation. SOL is specifically teaching children not to think about things as UNESCO literally believes in thoughtcrime. It turns humans into animals. UNESCO also believes in pure political power and authority. It has issued statements where it explicitly overrides science and forbids science that contravenes it. People don't seem to understand that all of these foreign or identity backed organisations have agendas which are typically radical and always represent niche special interests at the expense of humanity at large.

It's interesting how you said that in order to have a sustainable planet, we need to have "equity". I suspect this has roots from a non-woke political analysis by environmental and political scientists, which made the simple observation that as long as we have impoverished or third world nations there will always be sustainability issues. As the poor cannot focus on environmental issues as their main struggle is to survive day by day. So this makes sense, but the woke co-opted this idea and morphed it into their ideological mumbo jumbo to create a new thing where they justify the need for identity politics and EDI to achieve "global sustainability". This woke scheme by elites just co-opts real social justice and environmentalism to use it for their own agenda. Explains how they constantly change the definitions of words and concepts. Interesting, yes. On first hearing the word "sustainability" god knows how many years back, I do not recall "equity" being attached to it. Not in the general media, or written articles anyway. It also depends what in the heck is the focal point, or reference point of what is "sustainable" anyway. Could mean anything you want it to mean.
First definition I looked up "The term “equity” refers to fairness and justice and is distinguished from equality: Whereas equality means providing the same to all, equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge and make adjustments to imbalances." Distribution so that we are all the same.

I love James, but Vanguard does not own all of the investments--they are not poor, but the investments are owned by individuals. The invention of the low cost index fund was great for the ordinary person, so when I hear Vanguard brought into these discussions, I feel like people should go and see a few videos by the late Jack Bogle. He actually was a sweetheart who put the customer first. If Vanguard has DEI or sustainability ideology problems nowadays, then that is a separate and new problem. And I'm not convinced, yet, that they are captured by ideology.

Some constructive advice to James Lindsay. I'd recommend to not rely so heavily on the "socialism" and "Marxism" terms as they are buzzwords that have been used a long time to discredit anything that the right wingers don't like. It's not different how the woke today dismiss anything they don't like as "racist" or "bigoted" if it doesn't agree with their religion. Socialism and Marxism were used as boogeyman terms for a long time by the right wing and James's audience is going to associate him with the far right or anarcho-capitalists. Any meaningful attempt at socio-economic reform was instantly demonized as "socialism" or "Marxism". These are also terms that Fox News like to throw around. I know James is not like that and I agree that the ideologies he critiques do fit the description of such labels. But I just recommend you use these buzzwords sparingly or very carefully, because it might alienate some of your audience and give fuel to your opposition and critics. Your audience might quickly get turned off at the beginning of your speech when they hear you throw around these buzzwords too much. They are going to think "Oh he just another one of those right wing guys from Fox News throwing around boogeyman terms to captivate the audience's attention span." And I know that's not who James Lindsay is.
You say this is communism but it's actually something else that communism also is. For example, both ducks and chickens are birds and both have wings. Part of the problem is that we don't have properly have the terminology or language all of the time to describe these things. I would simply say that what they have in common is an authoritarianism of a certain type which is absolute centralised power and obedience so to in a sense engineer the perfect slave. A lot of the time people aren't thinking much about what they are actually doing. It's all about the outcome. The problem is what they are doing is guaranteed where as they outcome is not guaranteed. These people see problems as being social and that not enough people are behind it. They tend to disregard things such as what people's lives actually consist of and that they are otherwise disposed, other ways to address the problem, can't do anything or have their own requirements in life. Most of the time when I'm lobbied on these issues it's beating a dead donkey. It's not something you can do anything about. It's similar to rallying a crowd around someone with untied shoelaces who is tying them up. It doesn't actually help. In this situation what you do is you put everyone into bondage and set up a system where you can control them. What you'll often find is that you can't fully control them and even if you can you can't achieve the desired outcome. All you've actually done is to take control and enslave everyone. It all seems great because it's for a good cause until you realise that you haven't even achieved that. It's more likely other people were way ahead and solved that otherwise while new problems are presenting including having effectively lobotomised the masses.

Madison resident here. I can attest to the rock story.
It was a very cool and geologically interesting enormous boulder. They hauled it to a state park some 50 miles away where it couldn't "harm" anyone.
Literally, they said the boulder was harming students who had to walk by it on their way to class.
All because ONE article a hundred years ago referenced it using a colloquial term for black rocks used back in those days. No one called it that. No one knew about it. It wasn't a nickname for the boulder.
People who complained about the boulder being moved were called racists. Because they were insensitive to the harm the boulder was causing. Absolutely every argument for leaving the boulder alone was met with "you're only saying that because you're actually a racist. There's nothing to discuss, and if you insist on wanting a discussion, then you just want to cause harm." If someone said they remember enjoying walking by the boulder when they went to the UW 50 years ago, the response would be something along the lines of, "That's because everyone on campus was white then and you wish it was like that again. You are causing pain by saying these insensitive things, so just stop talking ."

I remember in 2005-2010 at McGill University, Montreal. Every student running for student leadership positions (council presidents, etc..) was running on a platform of sustainable development. I was a bit of lefty myself at the time and even I thought it was strange. There were these statements that each put out, seemingly independently, about their commitment to sustainable development. It just felt like a pile of meaningless buzzwords at the time.
Again, great video. I wanted to posit that SEL, as a tool or technique is very effective, hence its use to introduce topics and brainwash our children. However, and this is my key point, as a tool it is also very effective in helping children learn in general. Not all children learn the same way (stating the obvious sorry). I've been a teacher for decades, but not in organized school environment as my volunteer activities. I'm a retired Big 4 (was 6 back then) business tech consultant. The last few years, I've worked with kids to deprogram the BS they've learned it school. Parents learned a lot with the Covid Remote Learning. Sadly, so many kids are so messed up bringing them back, even just academically, is near impossible. Having debated a 10-year-old for over an hour on New York being a state and not a country, presenting countless examples of proof, only to hear "my teacher says New York is a country, so there, you are wrong, and I will never believe you", the depth of the brainwashing is clear. The parents have been brainwashed in school as well, so it is next to impossible to get any traction to help the child. The parents who care are devastated at what their children believe. I've watched parents have emotional breakdowns when the child rejects a fact in favor of what the teacher has said - especially when what the teacher said is nowhere near reality. Watching homework sessions where the parents end up screaming, crying and then the kid is screaming and crying all over a simple fact not even math related. The parents don't' even try the math. The control of the school is frightening. I am not sure what is going to happen, but it is scary. Common Core was the red flag that the gates are wide open, and they are coming for the kids, but we tin hatters were ignored. Now we pay the price.

@@piershartley8676 Maybe you should hear the entire recording and make up your mind then. These kids are really messed up and the parents can't deal with them, the schools can't deal with them. They don't have mental challenges in the traditional way, but they are mentally degraded with respect to Executive Function, the ability to discern situations and perform critical thinking analysis. This is because of the current programs of the school systems. A kid that fails 1st grade should not go to 2nd, and so on. This kid had failed every grade from 1st through 4th and was still passed through the system. He continues to be passed on and now he is on the path to prison. No Joke. He should never have been let down by the school system, but he was and what for Money of course. At least I try to help and have been volunteer teaching the at risk, children and adults for decades. Some succeed and some don't. Depends on how damaged they are. it is a terrible thing to watch a good kid at heart go down the drain. By the way, how long have you been working with kids? Maybe you should check out the schools that are having to put armed police in jr and high schools to protect the teachers and other students from being attacked. The bus driver shortage is not because people don't want to do it. Do some research and try working with a dozen of these kids and then lets see how you feel.
@@piershartley8676 What proper staff? This kid got permanently expelled in 4th grade. The parents have given up. I did speak to the school teachers and principal and had meetings with them and the parents. I even spoke to the school board that this was happening to the kids in this school. They said that wasn't their job to sort out. We have to go back to basics. Are you an educator? You seem to have some insights into the workings.
What's gonna happen is what happened in China when the red revolution came - children/students dragged their teachers and parents who didn't agree with them on politics to the streets, and beat them to d' eath.

I put myself through college tutoring math to students of all ages, elementary through high school and college students. I was really good at helping kids and adults understand and enjoy math.
But I couldn't make heads or tails of my son's math assignments and text books. They have these methods that do not work for teaching math. They boast that they do not teach underlying principles because it stifles imagination. They boast that they don't do drills, because that's "drill and kill."
Children are supposed to invent mathematics on their own, and by talking about how to solve problems in small groups. Seriously. They call it "discovery math."

I've also been pulled into a lot of this stuff as a scientist. UNESCO is a serious part of the problem. UNESCO has long been authoritarian and does not believe in the most fundamental human rights. UNESCO officially believes that humans should be considered the same as robots, livestock, slaves, computers, animals, etc. They have historically called this Mental Engineering. I come at this as a computer scientist who also tends to have to work in a lot of other fields as I am also a software engineer. I was surprised to find that not only is there such as thing as software engineering but also mental engineering. UNESCO has been explicitly against, truth, thinking (yes, thought) and science. What I don't don't understand is why western countries still permit any ties with UNESCO at all. Along with the likes of WHO, ADL and UNICEF it should be a proscribed organisation. SOL is specifically teaching children not to think about things as UNESCO literally believes in thoughtcrime. It turns humans into animals. UNESCO also believes in pure political power and authority. It has issued statements where it explicitly overrides science and forbids science that contravenes it. People don't seem to understand that all of these foreign or identity backed organisations have agendas which are typically radical and always represent niche special interests at the expense of humanity at large.

It's interesting how you said that in order to have a sustainable planet, we need to have "equity". I suspect this has roots from a non-woke political analysis by environmental and political scientists, which made the simple observation that as long as we have impoverished or third world nations there will always be sustainability issues. As the poor cannot focus on environmental issues as their main struggle is to survive day by day. So this makes sense, but the woke co-opted this idea and morphed it into their ideological mumbo jumbo to create a new thing where they justify the need for identity politics and EDI to achieve "global sustainability". This woke scheme by elites just co-opts real social justice and environmentalism to use it for their own agenda. Explains how they constantly change the definitions of words and concepts. Like how corporations love to virtue signal how "pro LGBT" they are and how "inclusive" their work environment is. This is supposed to mean they are very good and paint a good public image. First definition I looked up "The term “equity” refers to fairness and justice and is distinguished from equality: Whereas equality means providing the same to all, equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge and make adjustments to imbalances." I love James, but Vanguard does not own all of the investments--they are not poor, but the investments are owned by individuals. The invention of the low cost index fund was great for the ordinary person, so when I hear Vanguard brought into these discussions, I feel like people should go and see a few videos by the late Jack Bogle. He actually was a sweetheart who put the customer first.
If Vanguard has DEI or sustainability ideology problems nowadays, then that is a separate and new problem. And I'm not convinced, yet, that they are captured by ideology.

Some constructive advice to James Lindsay. I'd recommend to not rely so heavily on the "socialism" and "Marxism" terms as they are buzzwords that have been used a long time to discredit anything that the right wingers don't like. It's not different how the woke today dismiss anything they don't like as "racist" or "bigoted" if it doesn't agree with their religion. Socialism and Marxism were used as boogeyman terms for a long time by the right wing and James's audience is going to associate him with the far right or anarcho-capitalists. Any meaningful attempt at socio-economic reform was instantly demonized as "socialism" or "Marxism". These are also terms that Fox News like to throw around. I know James is not like that and I agree that the ideologies he critiques do fit the description of such labels. But I just recommend you use these buzzwords sparingly or very carefully, because it might alienate some of your audience and give fuel to your opposition and critics. Your audience might quickly get turned off at the beginning of your speech when they hear you throw around these buzzwords too much. They are going to think "Oh he just another one of those right wing guys from Fox News throwing around boogeyman terms to captivate the audience's attention span." And I know that's not who James Lindsay is.

You say this is communism but it's actually something else that communism also is. For example, both ducks and chickens are birds and both have wings. Part of the problem is that we don't have properly have the terminology or language all of the time to describe these things. I would simply say that what they have in common is an authoritarianism of a certain type which is absolute centralised power and obedience so to in a sense engineer the perfect slave. A lot of the time people aren't thinking much about what they are actually doing. It's all about the outcome. The problem is what they are doing is guaranteed where as they outcome is not guaranteed. These people see problems as being social and that not enough people are behind it. They tend to disregard things such as what people's lives actually consist of and that they are otherwise disposed, other ways to address the problem, can't do anything or have their own requirements in life. Most of the time when I'm lobbied on these issues it's beating a dead donkey. It's not something you can do anything about. It's similar to rallying a crowd around someone with untied shoelaces who is tying them up. It doesn't actually help. In this situation what you do is you put everyone into bondage and set up a system where you can control them. What you'll often find is that you can't fully control them and even if you can you can't achieve the desired outcome. All you've actually done is to take control and enslave everyone. It all seems great because it's for a good cause until you realise that you haven't even achieved that. It's more likely other people were way ahead and solved that otherwise while new problems are presenting including having effectively lobotomised the masses.
