An AI that is designed to be fun seems to be one of the biggest hurdles in RTS games. Having an AI that just cheats with resources and/or map awareness, or one that has an APM of a Korean StarCraft player may be a way to make the game more challenging for MP sweaties, but it is nothing compared to an AI that can be tailored to be defensive, aggressive, flanky, reckless, etc.
The AI in the wargame series has full map vision, double your income, even when it holds no sectors in destruction, and no limit on the orders it gives per second, and I still regularly beat it with four to one points lost ratio in skirmish, despite being kinda shit at the game, because it doesnt follow even the most basic of tactical wisdom. If they bothered to have the AI not rush its units across exposed aightlines with fastmove all the time, to not have it leave its high value unots sitting in open fields awaiting airstrikes and artillery, if they had it know wben to retreat to a more adventageous position, and cover that retreat with smole and artillery, if they had it leave some security units in its spawn, if they had it occasionally flank with motorized units or airborne special forces, if they had it set up its ATGMs and heavy tanks in commanding concealed positions with good fields of fire, if they had it keep a reserve force it can use to reapond if you break through its line, if they did even a fraction of these things, it would be a lot more challanging to fight. But that would actually require dynamic heatmaps of the game, asessing enemy force disposition, viable cover and likely avenues of attack. Instead all the AI seems to rely on is where roads, towns and forests are, and using the former to rush units into the latter that counter what the player has spawned, that the AI knows not through its scouts, but magically and automatically. Its in truth just very fucking lazy.
@@egoalter1276 Exactly this. As soon as you know how to farm the AI in WarGame, it loses it's challenge entirely. I mean, they don't even have randomised maps so that's one less excuse for an AI that at least imitates thoughtful defensive positions and offensive pushes, by having it prioritise certain terrain features and giving it a protocol to sweep an sector for command vehicles. Eugen games have the worst AI for an RTS I have ever seen, and actually putting some effort into an AI might be challenging but it would be worth it, even if it only really works well up to a certain player count limit like up to 4v4 as an example. This would eliminate the need to map awareness and resource cheats, at least on "medium" and lower difficulties.
For me it's pretty much the fact that the Eugen games don't have proper singleplayer campaigns, that keeps them pretty low on my priority list. I just don't have the time to get into the multiplayer, and I suspect I'm not the only one. Hopefully, the Total War style singleplayer will turn out worthwhile. Also, "Warno" might be one of the least sexy titles ever.
It's on my wishlist, but early access is something that puts me off a game rather than getting me more interested. I''ll probably get it, just waiting until the game is finished before I shell out any cash.
same,i too hold it on wishlist. But If we buy the game on early access.we're going to have 2 weeks constant update of new divisions, units and maps?.When does the official game game release?
maybe pick up red dragon, it plays rather similar but has enormous amount of content (armies, not campaign). it is like he said hard as hell to learn and get into though
@@thisnameisnotfake517 i already had wargame red dragon and steel division 2.But wargame red dragon are filled with boomers and grandpas.Yank in the middle of the game.
Road Map looks promising, but early access launch should have been 2 weeks or so later with a bit more content, more QoL working etc. and yeah lack of a tutorial is rough. And yeah their outreach to CCs was super limited for that. Here is hoping that they will improve on that on full launch (planned in 6-8 month).
They need a proper community manager to maximize engagement and expand the audience. They also need more QoL improvements to help people ease into the complex nature. People aren't used to clicking a unit to move, then it taking 30 secs to get there. It's a slower pace.
Roadmap is not promising. Good editor is literally the first thing in an RTS, i dont care how many times you say early access, you use it for development and other people can do the same thing in that time.
Here’s an idea at least for history nerds like myself: Eugen already got the Cold War right with 3 war games. Why do we need another copy? I’d be willing to bet if this was the same game in a 2020s setting with modern militaries and weaponry it would be popular.
I think modern times would always sell better. Would love a more modern time game with more factions/nations on a larger scale. Maybe put in some sea battles. Not to say this looks bad. Just found out about this game yesterday. Think i'll give it a try. Just not sure it's as addictive as Ruse for the long term. Maybe if they keep pumping out new content it could grow. Needs another 4 -6 factions to get some more variety in game play to stay interesting.
I agree. cold war theme is a bit played out. More modern military RTS games are needed but not too modern like sci fi rts. Something set in the 2000-2020 era would be perfect.
I feel its rushed to compete with Regiments and Broken Arrow. Its also not Wargame which many people love, so it does not fit into that crowd. It also does not fully fit into Steel Division. Totally agree with the video. For me personally, it does not give me what i want, which is Red Dragon, but a good campain is what will get me back. I love the coop campain for SD2.
Yeah. They had a recognised brand with wargame: escalation, airland battle, red dragon. It feels like just greed that’s made them rush this out. The models aren’t that much better and it’s far more ‘cartoony’ then red dragon. And doesn’t do anything escalation or airland battle didn’t do already. They’ve effectively reinvented the wheel; and made it slightly square
My biggest gripe with Eugen's RTSs is I feel it is micro heavy. I like to position my troops and let them be a bit while I deal with other stuff, but this won't work as the units won't do much on there own, and get annihilated, especially in multiplayer. I don't like having to actively manage the troops to have even a remote chance of success, so I tend to play games with very low income settings and LCD (limited combat deck), otherwise I can't keep up with the amount of things to do.
They added some group automation commands to Steel Division 2 in a patch that greatly helped this. I agree, the micromanagement was something I disliked. Often I played team games on maps that were too small for the number of players to reduce the column I needed to pay attention to, that helped.
Also units die really fast, and due to how fast the game already is, it makes really intense and for me it's not a good thing, i have to manage several units, their health, ammo, position, sight and range, and keep moving units to avoid been killed by air or artillery, while sending backup to lost units and supplies to units with no ammo, that is really overwhelming, one misclick, you lost a unit, take too long or act too slow, well you already lost the game you just dont know it. It's a shame, the game had a lot of potential...
@@danielkjm Yeah, can't recall how many times I lost a dozen infantry units to an airstrike or artillery barrage after forgetting I had deployed them 10 minutes ago. If units had a little bit more automated self preservation (that you could turn on/off whenever), it would help a lot. You just have so much to do at all time it gets overwhelming in big games. I'd love if you could assign groups to "AI Sub-Commanders" to whom you could give objectives, operation zones and rules of engagements, as a mean to ease on the multi-tasking, like a more advanced version of Steel Division 2 group order. I wanna feel like a battlefield commander, not a hivemind who needs to tell every soldier how to tie its shoes.
I hadn't ever heard of this game, and I played hundreds of hours of R.U.S.E. when it came out, it's one of my favourite RTS games. I'm subscribed to more than a dozen youtubers that mainly make videos about lesser known decent to good games, and you are the only one who even put out a video about this game. Maybe this is on steam's page, but I never check steam unless it's during sales season.
Yeah the marketing is non existent, only way I actually found out about this game was through randomly finding the wargame red dragon subreddit and seeing the pinned post being the announcement of this game.
@Dzie Kuje wargame red dragon is just so hard to get in it. Nothing explains the mechanics and the game play and I wasn't given the opportunity to like it. I don't have the faith to watch hours of tutorials on UA-cam for that game
these micro heavy rts games will always be niche, a eugen game will never reach the same popularity of something like total war, but maybe thats a good thing.
This game is great! As for the player count, I feel like the game has no marketing whatsoever. I love the Wargame-titles and I stumbled upon Warno by accident.
I can only tell you why I am not playing: 1.) Didn't know it existed 2.) Now that I know it looks a hell lot like Steel Division which didn't really click with me and this just seem more of the same
It improves from steel divison by going back to wargame red dragon mechanics, with better controls and ai, and graphics, but if you don't like red dragon then u won't like this.
divisions are like specialists in battlefield 2042 for me. it defeats huge chunks of the point of making your own fake unit. "yeah so actually we're gonna make you like, a captain or colonel in a unit and you'll be given the option of some random stuff" huge part of the appeal of wargame was that I could basically make my own unit to mess up the enemy with. it was really unique and weird.
@@superfamilyallosauridae6505 That is a problem. But Divisions are not as rail roaded and unrealistic as BF2042 Specialits. You can make two divisions very different from the same base division. But mainly it allows the game to show many more units from country. For example, a marine-focused deck, which would not have had as much attention otherwise.
@@brafianblackfyre9220 For sure, it's not as bad as 2042. It's not nearly the failure that game is, and I think it's actually a solid game. I think a lot of the playerbase, me included, is just kinda... played out on this extremely specific genre, and unless we get radically new toys in the sandbox that let us do funky stuff, I'm, for instance, not gonna be pulled back in. MW-1, sure, but we already had that in a mod. and it was cool. I added aircraft carriers in a sense a couple times, and that was REALLY funny. The kuznetsov even had a damaged version and would sink. it looked awesome. But nothing that funky is gonna happen in WARNO. I don't think Wargame can live in the cold war forever. Gimme, like, Pacific WW3 island hopper strategy game dodging Chinese ballistic missiles. The strategy campaign thing from one of hte steel divs was neat, but I want current day potential wars and so on.
This game flew under my radar, so thanks for bringing it to my attention, however i have two words...MOD SUPPORT...Total War, Men of War, Hearts of Iron they all have it and are still played today because modders keep these games alive. I feel like Eugene Systems is making the guitar hero mistake in over saturating their audience with these niche title release (DJ hero anyone?). But if they focus their efforts one hammering down one engine, with one game play mechanic and make it modable and nurture the modding community that many other games that are far older yet still played, their releases would have more longevity to them. For example, if there was a campaign editor for Air Land Battle that lets you open up the wider European Landmass rather than just being locked to Scandinavia, or likewise Red Dragon that only has campaigns with chopped up sections of the eastern Asian coast, I for one would be spending hours building campaigns like that, not to mention modeling and texturing my units to push the era back to the 50's or forward to the 2020's.
For instance, I feel something that limited the ability for WG:RD was the fact you couldn't import custom 3D models for stuff, or make custom campaigns to an extent. The best one I can think of is "the great Scandinavian war" where it recycles the 2nd Korean War battle map and pits you against a frankly ridiculous amount of enemy units
I’m am a huge fan of war game red dragon. And I have purchased WARNO but I got really disappointed in the low amount of tanks and heavy weapons I can use in battle. It feels like a much smaller scale compared to red dragon.
I never played a RTS game in the past, most of my games are all FPS, my friend showed me red dragon and when I went on the steam page and that’s when I saw warno, I bought warno my first war game, sinked 4h of gameplay total and I love it. I might be new but I’m looking forward in this game because I love it
I love the Wargame series and played quite a bit Steal Division, I've never heard of this game like ever. The effects do seem like a massive update from the previous games
I just learned about this game a few days ago from a video that was actually quite negative about it. I had never seen anything eugensys before other than maybe steel division 2 on passing. Even though the video was very negative the concept of the game really captured me and the more I learned about it the more interested I was despite the shortcomings. Your video captures my feelings about the game pretty much perfectly. Yes the game is expensive, yes it's hard to learn and hard to master, yes it's very incomplete. And yet I can't help but love it. If it's able to fullfil its potential and promises this is going to be a fantastic game. And I don't think I regret taking the leap of faith and betting on eugen for this one.
I know the video you were talking about. I think that video was dumb because he mainly complained about balancing, on day one of the game, and then did his best to make the whole game look bad. It really damaged the entire game's reputation as a result.
Not quite sure what happened to me, butI seem to have a hard time getting in these indepth games the older I get. It just seems like such a disheartening journey! But the game looks so awesome, I really want to. Being bad / feeling stupid sucks though xD But this time around I think Im gonna try for real! Surely!
Just a tip of what worked for me. Don't use the premade deck, make your own this will get you used to the units. Then get into a game with a very easy AI and see if you can win. Every time you win up the difficulty. Keep playing and tweaking your deck and you will get good in no time.
I think its actually great for old farts. No base management etc. The smart orders help a lot with micro too. Check out the steam guides, you will get it
Yeah it's annoying when you get older. Used to love deep games that required you to read a lot and learn a lot. Now I can't be bothered, just want some action. My problem however with the Wargames games now is that it's just to fast for me. I need to do a billion things at once. Also..why make such nicely detailed units when I can't even admire them cause my units will get their asses kicked if i do that gah!
They have 0 marketing and 0 PR. I'm a smaller YT'er and I get about 95% of the keys I ask for. At a minimum I get an e-mail explaining that my channel is too small or that they aren't passing out CC codes at the moment. If not for a user gifting me the game I would have never played it nor developed an interest in it. It's now the most watched video series on my channel, and still 0 from Eugen. Sent several e-mails asking for a key and also filled out the application on the site, they never even so much as said hello. It's rude, it's bad business and it's lazy. The games name is also awful, I do PR work and I would love to work for Eugen, I have no doubt I could dramatically improve their current PR situation. Even the name "Warno" is so painfully awful that it makes my teeth hurt. A PR manager could have picked up on this pretty quickly.
4:10 For the sake of realism, Infantry should be very hard to kill while they are in the forest or urban areas. The only way to get rid of them should be your own Infantry, or very intense artillery. For me, as someone who likes more realistic games, the fast pace and "arcadey" feel to the games is one aspect that is turning me off. It seems like Wargame/SD/Warno is on this middle ground where it tries to be a mix of arcade and realism, and just leaves both sides wanting for more. The other side is that these games mainly focus on mulitplayer and have, as you've mentioned, very small but extremely competetive communities. It's kinda like the Chivalry/Mordhau of RTS, but I guess this goes for all MP focused RTS games, which is probalby the reason this genre is pretty dead, and most successful RTS games focus on SP.
Yeah I agree, I was going to use a clip of a small armoured car driving into a forest and gunning down 20 engineers that were desperately throwing satchel charges at the car but doing nothing. I didn't use the clip because it was hard to see them in the forest, but it all happened within 30seconds, didn't feel right.
This video made me realise Eugen, God bless them, might just horrible at marketing their games. I'd no idea there was a overworld map "Total War WW2" mode in Steel Division 2, so this video about why no one's playing Warno might have induced me to buy SD2 whilst it's on sale, ironically enough. I, personally, hope Warno takes it easy on the DLCs. I don't think devs and publishers understand how off-putting it can be to find a game that looks like you only buy half a game when you just get the base content. Paradox can get away with it because no one else really makes games like the ones they do (thankfully), Sega/Creative Assembly can get away with it too because Total War and Warhammer are two massive franchises with built in fanbases. However, Warno doesn't really have either of those luxuries. At least Eugen thought of a better name than "Wargame" this time around.
Typically I would try getting into team games, and specifically focusing on a small portion of the map. That way you are able to really avoid getting a information overload. Later on when you get used to the mechanics you can do more single player games where you will be able to understand what the game is telling you rather than getting overwhelmed.
2:20 as a pretty good Wargame Red Dragon player (so sh** compared to anyone you face) I strongly suggest playing 10v10s to start until you really get a hang of the game. This allows you to see what others do and learn through trial and error without getting ur sh** rocked by someone with 2k hours in a 1v1.
Just like WarGame it's seems too convoluted and difficult to get started. Just don't have the time. I do have WarGame and all the DLC but I'm just lost. What's crazy is this is a game I would of dreamed of as a cold war history buff kid.
I think they don't do enough to support modding and develop the games post launch, and release new games too frequently to build up a strong user base. They need to seriously build WARNO around the community, and incorporate real mod support because you know people could do amazing things with this platform with proper and accessible modding. Even if they don't dramatically expand their post launch dlc developments, I think true modding support would make the world of difference in getting a real community behind this game. The games as they stand often feel like DLC of each other, the same thing mostly repainted and repriced with slight differences. Not that there haven't been any improvements, there have, but that is just a general sentiment I think people have and the game developers should do more to bust that belief. As someone who has been pretty into all of the Eugen games developed as of late, and who absolutely loved the Wargame series, I only just discovered this game today as well. I think they could really improve the publicity efforts as well. These Wargame style games are all great but playing it at a serious level is mentally draining. Its so much fun and it requires a lot of you. I think they should also do some brainstorming to improve the casual experience while not taking away from the higher levels of gameplay. Maybe simpler game mods, maybe assistance tools, like delegating unit groups to AI control (around a user defined objective) while you focus on something else. There are a lot of opportunities to improve the user experience. I really hope they consider some of these things.
Exactly, the already low player count are spread out between 5 different titles and now they add another title and wonder why no one is playing it. It really is a shame because these games are kind of great
Geez! We're only a month out from Christmas and the last big game sale, and many of us are still paying off the bills and working through the games we got over the holidays. I also agree with the other comments about early access, the game's lack of content, and lack of a tutorial. As a rule I generally like to let any potential game I'm interested in simmer for a couple of months to work out the major bugs as like many of us I've been burned in the past and really don't appreciate being a pay-to-play beta tester. That said, I will be picking it up at some point in the near future.
I would just like to add that Red Dragon does have an Army General mode, it's just not Coop. Wargame Air Land has a coop one as well as SD II. I really dont know why Eugen didnt make Red Dragons various campaigns Coop. It was nice to see some good footage of Warno and it looks great, I may actually pick it up soon. Great Video!
Warno is the best strategy game after Total War that I played, I just loved it even with my old PC made of cheese so play the game now!It runs on 60 fps with gtx 1050 ti
I think the best way to approach people who aren't so keen on the the RTS aspects is the campaign, for me it was a huge driving factor in Red dragon(played the 2nd Korean campaign about 7 times ) and even more in steel division, the AI isn't brain dead and for non-expirenced players, it is pretty nice to have, that's what keeps me with those two games Because of the lack of it (and my currently quite bad technical equipment), I have to pass on WARNO however I am confident that Eugene systems can make a lot of content, especially because it is very similar to previous games. I would definitely recommend it to other people interested in RTS or greater tactical military games, even tho it is a niche game, because it still deserves a look
I would be very curious to see an updated video on where the game stands now. I know they just announced Operations, Army General, and a Tutorial are all coming to the game. (I did see the post about the LP channel)
I kinda got sick of the Eugen Systems formula during Wargame Red Dragon, but I did get a good few hundred hours out of that trilogy. Looking at this game and Steel Divisions, these games just feel like they're more of the same but in a new coat of paint (and with a new price tag). Not enough innovation/progress to get me hooked again, and there is simply too much other shit to play. I think what the game truly needs is a fantastic single player mode if they ever want to expand their audience. Multiplayer personally wasn't that fun to me if I wasn't playing with friends over VoIP. The strategy game MP scene has always been rather niche, even with a massive series like Total War.
I've enjoyed Wargame a lot and Steel Division II. For me the main reasons for not getting Warno are that 1) I prefer to get into games after early access is done and 2) I'm still getting a lot of enjoyment out of Red Dragon and SD2. I'll most likely pick up Warno eventually just not for a while.
Oh, this reminds me of World in Conflict. That game was amazing. Thanks I'll be adding this to the wishlist and watching. With Broken Arrow coming too I'll be curious to see which holds up. I've only got so much time. Especially with all the releases lined up this month. Early Access is usually hit or miss.
WHY no ones playing? Easy answer. We already have Warno, its called Wargame AirLand Battle, who going to by this when its only an updated wargame with better mechanics. its STILL in the cold war, NOT MODERN like im pretty sure most people wanted. If its truely moddable then i MIGHT get it if a good mod comes out, but im plannng to get Broken Arrow. We've done cold war and ww2 already so many times. Eugen should have moved on by now, but for some reason they dont.
They're going down the direction that their player base isn't intereasted in. The problem with Warno is that it's incomplete and doesn't seem to be changing much from the formula of Wargame Red Dragon, so the community isn't really enticed to buy in. For me personally a big red flag is that Warno doesn't seem to be getting any progressing in terms of realisim/simulation. Also, If you notice your player counts are going down vs a game that you released years ago - you probably shouldn't try to model the new title after the failing title. Ether way - I'm glad that stupid front line macanic isn't in Warno. Wargame Red Dragon Player counts are higher than Steel Division 2.. I won't go to far into detail..but I did write a review about this in 2018 for Steel Division 1 if you REALLY want to know more about my perspective - you can find it under the exact name I'm using here.
WARNO is the textbook definition of a cash grab, it is literally and obviously built on the same engine from previous titles from years ago while also recycling maps, assets and hell even the player interface hasn't changed not even the color! Want my opinion? don't waste your money.
It's obvious why. Eugen games have a very specific community and they are the only ones that play their games, including my self. The problem is it's quite niche, realistic and it has a very steep learning curve. You really have to be into this type of game/warfare to enjoy it and push through the learning curve. New players get absolutely stomped in SD2 for example.
War gaame red dragon does have an over-arching campaign set in Korea. It's quite fun to play through at least once from each side and whille it is somewhat scripted, it is super cool to see new divisions showing up from each side with realistic forces. The reds kept arillery striking my only M1 abrahms-based armored division so I could never get it fully prepared for combat!
Loved Red Dragon, played MP almost daily, was part of a clan/community. The problem was monetization - every content update was behind a paywall. Normandy was no fun to me. What I want to know about WARNO is monetization scheme - I pay once, or they will keep selling DLCs as for their old titles? If it is the latter, then no thank you, the game will die just as fast as the rest.
Early Access game with little content. No campaign, only multiplayer. Yeah, everyone is waiting for full release. Not many people want to be paid beta tester.
"Why is nobody playing WARNO?" I just searched Warno on youtube and this was the first result, from 7 months ago, and the second result was "WARNO is a terribly designed RTS" ALSO from 7 months ago. Says it all really
I used to play Tom Clancy's: End War as a kid and ever since 2009 I've been chasing that high. So what's better, Warno, or Steel Division? I've seen a video of ST and it looks fantastic, but much slower paced than this.
Infantry are not really too weak, they are just massively overpriced (most of their transports as well) and the availability is too low. Eugen wanted to move away from the cheap infantry spam of Red Dragon, which wasn't really possible without the sell mechanic and more price granularity (WARNO's unit pricing is supposed to be double that of RD on average, along with the income). But they have massively over compensated for most infantry and transports (this is typical with Eugen games, they had rely on the community heavily to balance Red Dragon). There is also a bug right now where right clicking a building is always an attack move order, so infantry will not enter a building and so they get caught out easily. Overall I think WARNO has very high potential, but it needs a lot of work and even for genuine early access they might have released it a bit too early.
I REALLY enjoyed playing the CAMPAIGN on Red Dragon, PRIOR to jumping into multiplayer. It helped me learn the game A LOT, and it was SO MUCH FUN. When they add the Campaign to WARNO, I´ll jump into the fun!
I'm literally the target audience for these type of games and bought earlier versions. But, I just don't play them. I just want a game with a usable UI. A campaign mode that's understandable and continuous for a game like this actually like total war would make these games blow up
WARNO features: Difficult to learn and hard to understand and NO tutorial hmmmmmI think you know your problem. Don't look after your new players... so no new players
From a different point of view as a complete beginner to Eugen games (as in: didn't play Wargame nor SD), I like it that way, it's way easier to learn the game than if there already were 16 divisions and tons of content. Really like the game.
Because it's buggy, full of typos and the ui design is awful, it's also early access, expensive as heck and there's no indication if it ever gets better.
I looked at the store page and only got to "requires 3rd party account..." if i put up with another pointless account, there must be something really special going on and that's not it. Tied in this is that it's apparently multiplayer only. And multipalyer (kinda) RTS are just frustrating for the majority.
@@tedarcher9120 so it’s « balance », not bug. If there was no splash at all = bug. Splash or damage insufficient, balance (and yes, it’s not perfect, that’s not the point).
Wargame Red Dragon thoroughly sucked the fun out of Eugen's games for me. The combination of meta chasing, "tactical play" (man it's so fun to play with 6 units on this massive map), and the massive disparity between classic units and new units for no reason (to me) other than to sell DLCs just left a sour taste in my mouth every time I thought of playing multiplayer. After that there were only so many single player skirmishes I could do before it got old.
I absolutely love Eugens games but they just lack progression especially at launch. I don't think it would be super hard to do a simple Conquest map with bonuses, basically copy-paste what Dawn of War did since day 1, at minimum.
The thing that would drag me into this game as a MASSIVE fan of the campaigns for Wargame:Red Dragon --- A Campaign Editor... If they added the ability for the community to make campaign maps I would play the darn thing forever. I personally find the multiplayer and skirmish boring, I like the hybrid of needing to carefuly pick the divisions you deploy, the fact that you aren't guarenteed to get the exact equipment you want/need. A campaign editor lends itself to the deck editor that is already a really cool feature, designing the particular divisons that a player can use in your campaign.
Not enough PR. Was getting back into Wargame: RD, and the only reason I found Warno was because I was scrolling through /r Wargame, and someone *mistakenly* was asking for Warno tips there having mixed up the two.
I really like these types of games, but the pace of the battle is what kills it for me, if I could turn off the timer I'd be fine with the game as I'm not fast enough to keep up, I have play Combat Mission Battle for Normandy, which I liked but that's a turn based game I think, but like I said earlier, I just can't keep up with the timer in these types of games
The timer is the worst part! Let me play till the very last man, or let me surrender, but no timer. Hell they could give you an option to turn it off even. Be like 7 days to die, where they literally let you tweak every setting.
A big issue is that I don't know if my PC can run it, I run War Game Red Dragon, but I don't know if my computer can run this new one. It looks like Red Dragon without the extra factions, like a lesser version of Red Dragon.
Right now there are as much players in WARNO than in REDDRAGON or Steeldivision online, all are around 550 players. So "nobody playing" could not be farer away from reality. This was also the same case a year ago. So i do not really get your video or the comments at all? :)
They expect people to pay premium price for an unfinished (Early Access) game. In other words, they expect customers to bear the risk, which in worse case scenario could lead to no game at all, without compensating them (with a significant price reduction). It's almost insulting. Granted, if there were enough, and good enough content to command such a price, but your video clearly indicates the value proposition isn't there (in relative terms).
Because it's expensive and is basically just red dragon remastered. Same era, same units, same maps, same mechanics. Better graphics but does that matter in a RTS where most of the time you're zoomed well out to see the entire battlefield? If they add more and it goes on sale down the line sure I might pick it up but right now... not worth it to me.
Is there single player? My problem with RTS games recently is many of them are pvp only or at least totally focused on it...and I tend to play these games over long periods of time (real life gets in the way)
This might be a dumb question but what is the difference between this and Red Dragon. I had the wargame games and despite sucking bad we enjoyed playing them multilplayer against each other. The lack of a multiplayer campaign for us to play was the biggest limiting point for us. But isnt Wargame also set in the Cold War? For to put it another way why should we go from Red Dragon which has god knows how many nations and units to this which has almost none currently when the gameplay at least at a glance is basically the same?
So here's the reasons why me and my buddy just don't enjoy playing WARNO right now (We both have >600h in WG:EE/ALB/RD combined): -The UI is absolutely awful, cluttered and yet uninformative. -Unit grouping just isn't really a thing anymore, you can do the CTRL+ 1 to 0 thing but it's not the same. The combat groups also kind of work but they are too stiff and are awful to handle. -Feedback when your units are being attacked is very bad compared to Wargame and even Steel Division, we're losing a lot of units and just never notice it. This is pretty much game ruining for us and has never been an issue in Wargame. -Artillery is more annoying than ever, with automatic counter battery and fire at will modes. -Scale in general is much, much smaller than Wargame, although that is just me. -The Voice acting is horrible. They mostly use the same lines as in Wargame but the quality is horrible. Why didn't they just use the same ones? I don't know. Like the amount of content is limited but for me isn't really an issue because its EA. However, these other things just don't make it worth playing in EA at all with the limited content it has. Right now I think it's _awful_ and not worth playing, I would not recommend it in its current state and was very, very close to refunding it. Still consider it a bad investment. It sure has improvements in some areas but they just don't make it worth playing for us.
I’m coming from red dragon and even played the older titles. Everything is pretty much the same as red dragon when it comes to basic mechanics. They just made the game hard to understand compared to previous titles. The unit cards have about 20,000 numbers and stats on them, and units when deployed have 12 things displayed just on the unit tag and other 30 things on the hud. I’m sure I’ll figure it out, but for a new player to the series i think it would feel impossible
I personally didn't like Steel Division's division system. Some of the divisions within the two games I consider simply useless if the opponent took a certain deck that outpaced almost everything else. In Wargame: Red Dragon you at least could bring some light tanks with decent guns as a backup.
Same as with many others here. I am into these type of games and knew about Red Dragon and Steel Division but never hear of the launch of this game. Just happened to stumble over a youtuber that talked about it, otherwise I would have never known.
Having played PA:Titans I couldn't help but laugh when you said "Massive" and "Large Scale". All jokes aside, I love all my RTS games and WARNO is one of em! I hope the player base sticks around for the updates to come.
I’m hanging for this game to be released fully. I love the Wargame and Steel Division series it I’m a solo player, so when it’s released with the campaign I’ll be jumping onto it right away. Until then, I’m happy to watch the vid coming up.
Now this was 2 years ago where the major issue was the lack of diversity in maps and units. This is fixed by now but another issue is the timeframe I think. While there are some changes its not all that different from Wargame as far as mechanics are concerned which is good imo but its set in the same time as Wargame European Escalation. My buddies and me were rather surprised when we heard that cause we thought theyd go forward in time as they did in Airland Battle and Red Dragon.
I've played Red Dragon quite a bit and I still get pounded in multiplayer. Even in the single player games I try as hard as I can to not save/load scum my way through it. I sort of do a dry run of the campaigns before I attempt to stick to a single save. It is a really nice game but it takes a fair amount of trial and error to get the hang of things.
I love red dragon and I really love just zooming in and having the camera lock in and follow the unit while it’s flying or the tank is driving, but the camera in warno can lock on and off really quickly And it’s super loud (the guns) I love the new sound effect but even with my volume down, it’s still blows out my eardrums
I didnt even know that the game existed. But what puts me of is the price of 40 EUR (including tax) for an early access game with most of the content not in the game. So I will wait until its fully released and moddable. Multi Player is not what I want, since you mentioned it in the video: The player base is already very engaged in this and they would destroy me within a couple of minutes. I have had some experience in the game "World in Conflict" which was very similar, but it has been years and yeah, basicly what I want is an extended single player campaing, so I can chill out after work.
Something I noticed he mentioned was that Red Dragon doesn't have Turn Based Campaigns. Idk what he was thinking but I'm pretty sure you click an END TURN button during the campaign lol. I could be wrong tho
Why ruse was such a good game.
Supreme commander 2 understood this very well.
@@gagesmiles oh ruse was awesome 👌
Yeah, terrible name
Its short for "warning order"
@@brafianblackfyre9220 Yeah. Those who have had experience with them will still agree that it is a bad name.
@@mickethegoblin7167 Its opinion based. I think Dick is a shit name, there are still a lot of people called dick
@@brafianblackfyre9220 Well, I agree it is a shit name.
And of course it is opinion based- noone said otherwise
It's on my wishlist, but early access is something that puts me off a game rather than getting me more interested. I''ll probably get it, just waiting until the game is finished before I shell out any cash.
Same here I played RUSE wargame ee and red dragon and both steel divisions the game early access is the reason I hold off the buying
Yeah same here. There are too many games that on my pile of potential. I don't want to waste time on unfinished experiences.
same,i too hold it on wishlist.
If they can reach out to enough CCs during full launch it could revitalise the game for sure.
Roadmap is not promising. Good editor is literally the first thing in an RTS, i dont care how many times you say early access, you use it for development and other people can do the same thing in that time.
I absolutely loved "red dragon", what I would of done for an expanded campaign map ahhhh
Or even just a (new) map pack!
for me airland battles is better than red dragon
@@airshark2764 I find the pace of RD better ;)
Here’s an idea at least for history nerds like myself:
Eugen already got the Cold War right with 3 war games. Why do we need another copy? I’d be willing to bet if this was the same game in a 2020s setting with modern militaries and weaponry it would be popular.
And by wargames, I’m talking European escalation, airland battle and red dragon
A future based game in like 2060s or 2100s would be nice.
@@benanders4412 I remember when RUSE was advertised as having naval combat. And then it didn't. And I was very disappointed
Co-op campaign being missing from red dragon is one of the biggest flaws of that game.
If they make warno moddable, I 100% will make it into a napoleonic wargame
This style of game but set during the Napolenic Time, Crimea War or Franco-German War, that would be an experience.
Lmao
I believe they do intent to offer mod support. There's a mod section in the menus even if it's not yet enabled.
Or Ww1
Good luck making the ai form lines
Often I played team games on maps that were too small for the number of players to reduce the column I needed to pay attention to, that helped.
bruh is playing an RTS game but doesn't want to micro which is the mainstay of all true RTS games
@@SM-pv4sn the counter batterie command is a blessing
Exactly the same here, and I spent sooo many hours on ruse
Same, and I was shocked when I saw Warno, randomly on Steam. I think it's just not being pushed out enough
I can only tell you why I am not playing:
1.) Didn't know it existed
2.) Now that I know it looks a hell lot like Steel Division which didn't really click with me and this just seem more of the same
It improves from steel divison by going back to wargame red dragon mechanics, with better controls and ai, and graphics, but if you don't like red dragon then u won't like this.
divisions are like specialists in battlefield 2042 for me. it defeats huge chunks of the point of making your own fake unit.
"yeah so actually we're gonna make you like, a captain or colonel in a unit and you'll be given the option of some random stuff"
huge part of the appeal of wargame was that I could basically make my own unit to mess up the enemy with. it was really unique and weird.
@@superfamilyallosauridae6505 Yh your right, but i guess eugene doesn't have enough money to take those sorts of risks.
I might be new but I’m looking forward in this game because I love it
You should really go back and try out the wargame series. The most popular game is wargame red dragon.
I love the Wargame series and played quite a bit Steal Division, I've never heard of this game like ever. The effects do seem like a massive update from the previous games
It is a looker, that is for sure.
@@brafianblackfyre9220 That was a really harsh criticism of a EA game on it's Day One.
"Yes they are charging us almost full price for a tech demo"
It was on sale for 25% off the other day so I picked it up. It's fairly polished for an early access game, I'd say. Enjoying it so far
Not quite sure what happened to me, butI seem to have a hard time getting in these indepth games the older I get. It just seems like such a disheartening journey! But the game looks so awesome, I really want to. Being bad / feeling stupid sucks though xD
But this time around I think Im gonna try for real! Surely!
Just a tip of what worked for me. Don't use the premade deck, make your own this will get you used to the units. Then get into a game with a very easy AI and see if you can win. Every time you win up the difficulty. Keep playing and tweaking your deck and you will get good in no time.
I feel the same way
I think its actually great for old farts. No base management etc. The smart orders help a lot with micro too. Check out the steam guides, you will get it
Same, I used to play amateur league of halo and being pro at 14 yrs old, now I return home and just want to click sometimes or leave it
Yeah it's annoying when you get older.
Its not like total war though. The battle map is weird-feels like map rotations, battle timer makes tactics very limited, and the units seems generic
I tried getting into steel division a couple times, but at some point I just get overwhelmed by stuff happening on the map and ALT F4
Typically I would try getting into team games, and specifically focusing on a small portion of the map. That way you are able to really avoid getting a information overload.
Later on when you get used to the mechanics you can do more single player games where you will be able to understand what the game is telling you rather than getting overwhelmed.
its not done yet, playing it from time to time. will play it more when its done.
Love the Eugen games, had no idea it even came out. Looking forward to it getting a campaign.
My friend and I are focusing on SD 44 and SDII but I plan on getting into this once it is out of beta.
It really is a shame because these games are kind of great
I'm done with US vs USSR games Cold War and Allies vs Axis WWII games. Can we get new factions and time periods, already?
A modern Day WARNO would be nice, but Broken Arrow is already working on that.
A modern day War of The World's RTS would be great.
Great Video!
did u ckeck out expeditions rome?
No, I did get sent it, but honestly just haven't been that interested in it. People tell me its good
Warno is the best strategy game after Total War that I played, I just loved it even with my old PC made of cheese so play the game now!It runs on 60 fps with gtx 1050 ti
I think the best way to approach people who aren't so keen on the the RTS aspects is the campaign, for me it was a huge driving factor in Red dragon(played the 2nd Korean campaign about 7 times ) and even more in steel division, the AI isn't brain dead and for non-expirenced players, it is pretty nice to have, that's what keeps me with those two games
Because of the lack of it (and my currently quite bad technical equipment), I have to pass on WARNO however I am confident that Eugene systems can make a lot of content, especially because it is very similar to previous games.
I would definitely recommend it to other people interested in RTS or greater tactical military games, even tho it is a niche game, because it still deserves a look
Ai not braindead? Are you sure? Last time i checked ai just unit dumps you early
SD2 does have solid SP campaign and it's very different from WG.
6:02 rest in peace the soldiers who just got clartered by that friendly vehicle
It's obvious why. Eugen games have a very specific community and they are the only ones that play their games, including my self. The problem is it's quite niche, realistic and it has a very steep learning curve. You really have to be into this type of game/warfare to enjoy it and push through the learning curve. New players get absolutely stomped in SD2 for example.
Yap, I played all of em and loved the campaigns, even the hard AI skirmishes, but multiplayer was just aaaarg.
If it is the latter, then no thank you, the game will die just as fast as the rest.
if you want a good game pay for it, if you want new stuff in your good game, pay for it. These guys have bills too you stooge!
Oh no, you have to pay for a dlc, like in every other game. It's a business
Infantry cover implementation would fix that.
Early Access game with little content. No campaign, only multiplayer. Yeah, everyone is waiting for full release. Not many people want to be paid beta tester.
I heard vehicle speed was silly fast
Having no SP campaign (yet) put me right off it.
"Why is nobody playing WARNO?" I just searched Warno on youtube and this was the first result, from 7 months ago, and the second result was "WARNO is a terribly designed RTS" ALSO from 7 months ago. Says it all really
Its definitely worth getting if you understand its early access- it looks and runs brilliant. And it is realistic....
A campaign mode that's understandable and continuous for a game like this actually like total war would make these games blow up
I did not know about this one. Thanks for the coverage.
True, but that doesn't explain why Red Dragon never got popular. It's better than the popular RTS games
Because its not finished yet... feels good although not a fan of the deck system. Overall looking forward to the full release
Seen a lot of negative reviews which seem justified.
many people seem to think its shit.
Many people seem to think is good.

Anything with a 'roadmap' has got to be suspect. It generally means its not finished. Regiments looks better right now.
I looked at the store page and only got to "requires 3rd party account..."
if i put up with another pointless account, there must be something really special going on and that's not it. Tied in this is that it's apparently multiplayer only. And multipalyer (kinda) RTS are just frustrating for the majority.
Cause its buggy shite
I haven't had or noticed any bugs yet... at least not noticeable to me

@@stephanhernandez897 still true. Try bombing a truck, only direct hits deal damage
@@tedarcher9120 so it’s « balance », not bug. If there was no splash at all = bug. Splash or damage insufficient, balance (and yes, it’s not perfect, that’s not the point).
Should i get this or Red dragon? I like using modern day tanks like abrams but i dont mind tbh.
My big question when I saw this was "why would I buy this when I already have Red Dragon?"
How do you resupply your supply trucks when they run out off the freedom seeds
Does this feature a destructible map?? Like, if artillery hits buildings, do the buildings get leveled?
Yup
@@RepublicOfPlay -- That's awesome
Right now there are as much players in WARNO than in REDDRAGON or Steeldivision online, all are around 550 players. So "nobody playing" could not be farer away from reality. This was also the same case a year ago. So i do not really get your video or the comments at all? :)
Its not literal, its relative. Relatively speaking to other strategy games, there is nobody playing this game.
Just a heads up wargame red dragon does have a turn-based campaign mode wargame started before the steel division series
Also unlike what you said Red Dragon HAS a turn based campaign system.
So here's the reasons why me and my buddy just don't enjoy playing WARNO right now (We both have >600h in WG:EE/ALB/RD combined):
-The UI is absolutely awful, cluttered and yet uninformative.
I enjoyed Steel Division 1, but I'm really bad at managing all the units, fronts, and battles at the same time, even at the slowest speed.
is the AI any better? they used to just throw units at your line like lemmings.
yea
Yep - I have had a convoy of trucks come at me a couple times, but if they have recon with them, which they normally do, they're much more reserved
Will all the maps look so similar? If not for the river, I wouldn't have been able to tell them apart in this video.
Real aerial footage from western Europe countryside doesn't look different in every place. It's based on satellite imagery of Fulda gap, Germany
Watched your video and then I bought it on steam. Right now its on sale for 29.99. Good deal. Great video BTW.
I’m hanging for this game to be released fully. I love the Wargame and Steel Division series it I’m a solo player, so when it’s released with the campaign I’ll be jumping onto it right away. Until then, I’m happy to watch the vid coming up.
What is the difference between warno and wargame red dragon ? Its pretty much the same settinv and gameplay, at least from what I saw
I like that Wargame is fast paced and everything dies instantly. SD44 was far too slow paced for me.
I guess you can now make another review, tha community is growing and the game's becoming excellent
when the campaign is added this is a must buy for me. Ugh I loved world in conflict and this reminds me of it.
If they made more campaigns and invested in a bit of marketing I reckon their sales would multiply many times over.
Something I noticed he mentioned was that Red Dragon doesn't have Turn Based Campaigns. Idk what he was thinking but I'm pretty sure you click an END TURN button during the campaign lol. I could be wrong tho
