- Alan Parker's 1987 film "Angel Heart" is a Gothic masterpiece of darkness, horror & metaphor. Mickey Rourke deserved an Oscar for his role as Harry Angel. Rourke's complete breakdown at the end blows Brando's Kowalski away! I've seen this film a dozen times but, I always spot something I missed. Enjoy!

Is this the end of the movie
Dream sequences. This film is a wild trip into wonderful weirdness.
It's a bunch of cuts. The down-elevator is seen in bits throughout the film, but its full meaning comes out at the end.
Yes...he's got...
The atmosphere in this film was so creepy.
Mickey Rourke and the entire movie were literally cheated out of the Oscar. Nothing against Cher, who was honored for her performance in Moonstruck. But when you compare both performances, you don't have to have a deep knowledge of acting to realize that Rourke is making movie history here.
This film was way too dark for the mainstream.
@@maxbrazil3712Sorry, but that's nonsense. Even hard, dark horror like The Exorcist or Alien got Oscars and lots of nominations. There was nothing at Angel Heart. Not a tiny nomination. Not even for the script or the soundtrack, by Trevor Jones, who puts that of The Last Emperor in his pocket ten times over. Nothing. Zero. I stand by the fact that the film was cheated at the 60th Academy Awards.

I even claim that there was a boycott against Rourke and everything related to him. Because as far as I know, he was already controversial in the US film industry and also turned his back on it when he tried his luck with Parker in Europe.
@@ichabodcrane2487 Don't misunderstand. This movie is a masterpiece and Mickey Rourke deserved an Oscar. It was a Brando level performance, but for the time it pushed the edge with the sex. Damn, but Lisa Bonet was a biscuit in this film!
Adrian Lyne who directed Mickey Rourke in 9 and 1/2 weeks said that were Rourke to die after filming Angel Heart he would have become at least as a great iconic figure as James Dean had.
He would’ve been. Amazing actor. Doesn’t get the respect he deserves
The scariest thing is, every time, he had one of these visions. He'd be out killing somebody.
Love the church scene its almost like someone is warning him
Yeah, it was his guilty and pure evil conscience.
masahiro ito said the elevator scene inspired heather's scene to the otherworld in Silent Hill 3
Ma favourite movie ever Mickey Rourke at his best pure masterpiece ☘👍👍☘
ABSOLUT. 😎😎😎
Underated gem. Love this film
A tour de force movie absolute classic!!!¡¡¡!!!!
This movie is so good
It’s horrific
@@ferise1 YEAHHHHH!
I know. And people have made fun of me for liking it so much. Thank you.
From 1:26 most disturbing. One of the best movie I have ever seen.
This movie was truly brutal.
A masterpiece!
Dark and brooding, almost hostile from the very beginning on, but a fantastic, clever movie.
You immediately know, this is going to end very, very bad. The inviting elevator scenes - brilliant imagery!
The Devil says to everyone: "Once I lay hands on you--it's over."
Throughout the movie we get hints about Johnnie’s fate. Elevator straight down to hell.
Do you want to be scared? Are you sure?
Best movie ever.
