For anyone doubting that Fiona Shaw truly did say "F*ck the Empire," it was later confirmed in an interview that came out today: uproxx.com/tv/andor-star-wars-f-bomb/
Ok, listen. If you want any amount of money you ask for, you'll have a shirt with Fiona Shaw on it that says "F*ck the Empire." I'll buy one for my whole family.
As Marva describes the empire as "a disease" Luthen's mouth twitches, almost imperceptibly, in a smile, he knows it's starting, at last, and he's gotten to see the Rebellion grow not just from his effort, but spontaneously from others'. It's validation for him and his sacrifice.
“Fight the empire!!” Another badass and memorable quote for the Star Wars collection. God Andor is amazing! Future films/series will have a lot to live up to!
How have so many content creators missed that Cassian paid Nurchi thru Bix (Episode 7). He paid all of his debts before he left Ferrix. Nurchi was a character like Skeen, he was out for himself.
Came here for this. He left money to pay his debts so either they never did, or, more likely, he was just greedy and wanted more to afford to go off world
Andor was a great show and can't wait for Season 2, made Rogue One even better as well and gave useful insight into characters like Mon Mothma, Cassian, and others that I find really interesting.
Gonna go back and rewatch Rogue One with a better appreciation for the characters and connections from the time line before the movie takes place. Instead of watching Rogue One looking for the ah ha moments that connect it to what is going to come after the movie.
@@JusNoBS420 That's exactly what I just did and it was very enjoyable, Andor S2 will end off much more closely to Rogue One of course but I'll rewatch it again as well because Rogue One is just such a good movie
Andor was a Masterpiece. I never thought I'd be saying that about anything Star Wars with the way things have been going but there it is. This is must watch TV and I hope this informs future Star Wars projects.
There is a strong theme of how crucial communicating with eachother throughout the whole season: the secret phone on ferrix, the secret phone in the shop, secret elevator Bluetooth phone with Luthern, the prisoners warning about level 2, the manifesto given to Cass, and more probably. Empire controls communication and info just like tyranny does. Feels familiar.
I want to also point out that there were SIGNIFICANTLY many more pairs of gloves missing from the workers' wall when we pan past it in the finale. I think there were only one or two missing pairs in episode one. I took that to mean that the Empire's presence was literally killing people, which helped to make it very believable that the entire town would revolt. They were losing people to the Empire, and they couldn't let it stand. Fantastic environmental storytelling. The kid who threw the IED was a more intimate/obvious/violent demonstration of that sentiment.
I think Yoda's "there is no try" is more about not setting yourself up to preemptively accept failure before really even give a task your all. I think it's also positively about accepting success in your effort nurturing determination.
It reminds me of a course I took where someone was told to try to lift a kleenex box. Once they did it, they said 'No, I said to try to lift the kleenex box.' The point is the absurdity of creating barriers in language between ourselves and the results we seek.
All of the world building of Ferrix plays into Marva's speech. From the opening when we see the workers gloves. The red dirt. The bricks. Finding out those who have passed are made into the bricks. The planet seems to be made up of scrappers like Marva. They use the scraps to tie up the Corpo drop ship during the first action packed fight. The uniforms and guild crests the workers where. The somewhat old-timey looking Union worker dress uniforms. They all play into the working class theme of the town and planet. Marva talks about the Empire as rust. Something scrappers are constantly fighting against. Clem was showing Cassian how to remove rust from scrapped parts.
You could tell that Luthen was clearly inspired by Marva's speech and might have thought he was listening to a kindred spirit. I think this definitely plays into his decision of accepting Cassian at the end, he has just listened to this guy's mother speak so passionately and knows they were close, he is certainly worth a shot as a potential asset to the cause.
The funeral started early because the Empire earlier pushed it to the afternoon instead of midday as a demonstration of force. As a small act of rebellion, in line with Nemik's manifesto, the funeral was held at midday.
Did I miss you mention that the crowd at the funeral were dressed in suits that looked like proto rebel flight suits? Orange X-Wing, Red B-Wing, Green A -Wing... And not just the colours, they look a bit like the flight suits too.
I have been a Star Wars fan for over 40 years, and I'm still in awe how much others know about this universe. I want to tell everyone to watch these videos after the shows and movies because you don't miss a thing!
I'm way late for this observation, but is the name Kanari (a condemned mining planet) referring to "a canary in a coal mine"? There are too many parallels with an actual canary in a coal mine where the former's "death" is symptomatic of a much larger problem with the latter.
I think you're on to something with that. Ferrix is a play on ferrous or ferric, meaning something that's made from or contains iron. The people are all steelworkers and metal scrappers. No wonder rust is a powerful symbol of decay to them.
Holy crap! Listening to what Nemec said again, I was thinking that it sounded like Locke’s natural rights. I think he also invokes Rouseau. I wish I heard that the first time around.
I watch another video where they mentioned the swapping of hats being a tactic for them to be able to spot each other easily in a crowd if need be. I thought it made a lot of since.
12:25 holy shit, thank you for this clarification of the switching of the hats. I've seen a couple videos touch on this, but they just thought it was "to look local"
Some details I loved that make it all work better: the city doesn't have air control bc they want Cassian to sneak in, because of this the ship at the end can go away easily, and There's no snipers bc they want Cassian alive, making crowd control a lot harder for the empire
Really random thing to notice but I love how much the mundane parts of star wars always cross over with each other from the security camera design to the background ships it just really sells how the entire franchise is connected
I am German and i watched Andor in English. I would suggest any other fellows of my country to do so too. Synchronisation takes a lot away of the force of words, specially on Marva's speech. Yeah I always watch in original if possible. I had to watch wakanda forever in German and the translation was just horrible. How can they translate the „battle“ cry „wakanda forever“ with „wakanda über alles“ meaning above everything/all. Mentioned this on another channel but worth mentioning here.... I did find something in Rogue one again. When Jedda is hit Darth Vader tells Krennic "there is no deathstar, it was a mining accident" that was the same thing that happened on the Kanari homeworld "an imperial mining accident" wouldn't that be a double whammy if cassians true parents were also affected by the death star in someway, timeslines arn't quite right, but they may have been testing early weapons. Maybe his parents were mining for materials to make the structure !
This as well as Rogue One is not only some of the best Star Wars content ever produced, but just damn good movie making in general. I hope to see more of this type of dramatic cinema in Star Wars going forward!
As a former teacher, people misunderstand Yoda’s “there is no try” lesson for Luke. As a teacher he knew what Luke was capable of better than Luke did. He knew Luke could lift the X-Wing. He didn’t have to try, he just had to do it. The Manifesto pointed out the attempt alone (rob the Empire, illegally perform a funeral, rescue a prisoner) was the important act of rebellion and just by trying do those things was enough to inspire others and let the tyrants know they aren’t really in complete control. The attempt alone was victory even if the funeral is stopped, or the prisoner can’t be saved in time.
While my absolute enjoyment of the Andor story does not require this level of geekery... I do very much appreciate that others are paying close attention to the subtle clues and backstories! Cheers to all and here's to the next season!!
This first season of _Andor_ was almost obnoxiously good -- as if rubbing other series' and film's noses in it. What a tremendously fleshed-out setting in Ferrix. History, culture, and people felt so real. I feel the need to watch it through again, like one would want to re-read a deep novel.
I like to think Maarva’s Speech also coincides with Ezra’s Speech from Star Wars Rebels, the biggest spark within the galaxy of Rebellion are started by two speeches.
Andor was what I always wanted from the Star Wars universe, the thing that always seperated Wars from Trek, real people going about their life. Not a shiny, idealized future, but one veiled by shadows of morality. Spice dealers, smugglers, mercenaries, outlaws, farmers, mechanics, gamblers, and fishermen, not necessarily propelled (at first) by grandiose notions but rather by need.
I can’t be the only one that saw Sergeant Linus get turned into the light side of the force by the speech made by Marva… we saw a glimpse of his facial reaction, and later in the end he was shown drinking (probably contemplating on what to do next with his life )
Slight correction - Cassian does give return all the money he owes when he returns to Ferrix after Aldhani. He gives Bix the 12,000 credits and specifically mentions Nurchi before he leaves.
Yoda’s phrase about trying infers that if you will decide to do something, expect success. If your perspective is that you are going to “try” then you do not expect success. You expect only the attempt.
3:50 nurchi was supposed to paid, since cassian left the money he owes plus interest to bix. but bix got arrested the next day and the payment never reached nurchi

Easily the best review of the finale i've seen 👏 bravo! There are lots of solid SW content creators but your reviews are especially good with musical scores, mood, and hidden details.
i saw those droids welding, and it made me think about the hypothetical welding process you would use in the vacuum of space, i was thinking you would not need shielding gas, because there is no oxygen to contaminate the weld, then i realized that without any gas or air or anything, you couldn't strike an arc since the arc needs to travel through something so shielding gas is probably the easiest way to do that 🤷
Nemik struck me as more of a classical Anarcho Socialist. Before all of the Communist influences got in there. A lot of what he said rings with the more classical liberal social theories of the enlightenment era and American Revolution. This kid was the galaxy’s Thomas Paine. And as an anarchist myself, I connected a lot with what he said.
If you are for once able to separate yourself from all the Jedi, Lightsaber, Grogu, SW trilogy whatever and all that feel good Disney shit....this series is really really really good. The story is so strong, exploring how ordinary society struggle within theirselves in totalitarian world. I'm gonna bet the rating is not so good, because people just want lightsaber. Also the costume departement. Wow. I hope they get something for their work. The Corusant wardobes and whatever Mon Mothma was wearing. Just wow. Imho

Such a good series, can't wait for series 2
The ship they escape in has the engines of the y wing. I noticed that but didn't see the rest. Thanks for pointing that out.
You missed the tiny Cantwell-class cruiser near the Death Star in that final shot! They nailed the scale there!
I wonder if "Fight the Empire!" was a reference to Gwen DiMarco's reaction to "The Chompers" in Galaxy Quest...
The Marva hologram reminds me of Leias projection from another loveable droid in ANH
11:52 honestly, when I heard spark, I thought of the pilot episodes to Star Wars: Rebels (Spark of Rebellion, Parts 1 and 2)
i saw those droids welding, and it made me think about the hypothetical welding process you would use in the vacuum of space, i was thinking you would not need shielding gas, because there is no oxygen to contaminate the weld, then i realized that without any gas or air or anything, you couldn't strike an arc since the arc needs to travel through something so shielding gas is probably the easiest way to do that 🤷
Was waiting for you to point out the goggles worn by the riot troopers, very similar to Kylo Ren’s helmet
Were you thinking Proudhon? I would really want more of a Space Kropotkin myself.
@@morrigannibairseach1211 little Proudhon. I was also getting a little Irish socialist and IRA vibes.
Well. Now I need to rewatch Rouge One again, and not just the last five minutes.
Thanks for delaying this video. I really felt like i was watching the vid again. Andor rocks
The finale is symphonic. Tremendous!
Thanks for the comments hit me up 👆👆👆 let's talk 🤠

You freaking rock! I love your enthusiasm and passion for great storytelling.
Just wow. Imho

Mon Mothma looked hot. Not gonna lie.
The settings, especially on Coruscant, are great. Snd evoke the Empire’s sterile look.
"FIGHT THE EMPIRE!" - Marva
Current video! Thanks so much! One of the best shows I've seen in a long time
