  • Hey friend, I'm bringing you my first ever Grocery Haul featuring a stock up from Costco, Aldi and a local Amish Discount Grocery store. I got to go to Costco for the first-time last week and I'm sharing what I thought were good deals and what I'll purchase again. We are a small family of 4 so this is a pretty average grocery haul, it seems to me most of these haul type videos are for fairly large families and I just can't identify with that! Hopefully this gives you some ideas for what the average family buys in bulk. We also eat mostly whole foods, organic and clean ingredients!
    Thanks for joining me,

I recently started buying those oats and they taste soooo good in the instant pot! I do 1 cup oats, 3/4ish cup water and 3/4ish cup milk (I’ll use homemade almond milk if my dairy sensitivity is flaring. If not I use whole milk) and a splash of vanilla extract. High pressure for 2 minutes and natural release for 15-20 minutes (depending on how hungry you are and if your toddler is yelling at you for breakfast like mine does lol). Once it’s done I split it into bowls for us and add chia seeds, cinnamon, some kind of fruit or brown sugar and sometimes peanut butter. This makes enough for me and my 19 month old. These are the only oats I’ve found that don’t upset my stomach and don’t cost an arm and a leg like the Bob’s Red Mill gluten free oats (I’m gluten sensitive)

    Happy belated Birthday! 🎉
Interesting about the maple syrup. I get mine through Naturally a Deal - they get it from two PA families. It’s not labeled organic, but the taste is amazing. I’m getting it by the gallon. 😊 Honestly, I’m not sure it really matters on the maple syrup to be organic or not.

Happy Belated Birthday Kelsey! How sweet to get some adult time for shopping and lunch!! You so deserve outings like that!! This video was fun.....appreciate your sharing it, and your buying strategies. I tend to only serve homemade to my family and childcare children, but find good pantry and household consumables, but not edible, deals when buying in bulk at Sam's Club. My membership there certainly pays for itself. Using their credit card pays quite well also, And the later works only if you are disciplined to pay your total balance when it comes due, otherwise interest will negate any savings. I can proudly state I have never paid a penny interest on any purchases throughout my lifetime. And like you, I put back a lot of cold-stored, frozen, canned, fermented and freeze dried foods , which in turns allows me to spend minimal on the weekly needs run throughout the year. And like you, it's mostly dairy products. Hopefully someday a Costco will come to Maine. Again, thanks for sharing all you do, Your family is so blessed to have you, as this community is as well !!

That flour is great because it does not have synthetic b vitamins in it. I really think so many of the “gluten” issues people have are actually b vitamin/MTHFR (40% of Americans) and glyphosate contamination. Neither of which are actual gluten problems per se but because of how it’s grown and processed

I'm most surprised by the raspberries, since you grew so many this year. I think the word "organic" is tossed around a lot just to be able to charge us more for the product. Sure some products are truly grown organic like fruit and veggies but the issues I have with it are products like maple syrup and a lot of the fruit trees because you know that they are not out there spaying them and require no effort for them to grow yet they still want to charge that higher price just because it is "organic". I'm not bashing on people for buying it, just saying that those companies are just taking advantage of people. It is the same with the whole "antibiotic free chicken" that they put on chicken when the FDA says all chicken has to be antibiotic free chicken and it's illegal to sell any chicken to the public that does contain antibiotics. Research what you buy people, don't take the package at face value.

    • @seedandsparrowhomestead
      @seedandsparrowhomestead  10 місяців тому +2

Lol, so the raspberry purchase. Yes I have a TON, however every once in a while my kiddos ask for fresh, so they got fresh ☺️
You are so right! Organic is thrown around so lightly. I try and purchase organic where I know things could have been sprayed otherwise and I do know that at least locally some maple are sprayed for certain diseases and pests! We do need to pay better attention and research research research! ❤️

It has become mind blowing since I have started reading the labels on the foods my family purchases all additives that are added and for what . We made the change months ago when you inspired to me to make my own bread, English Muffins, bagels , and buns. The taste is so much more cleaner as is our meat purchases which over to plant based meats and more. I am definitely going to check out the Amylu apple & Gouda chicken sausages , also thank you so much for salad dressing recipes you shared on one of your videos that is all I make now is homemade dressings taste so much better. 😀

Our Costco is 2hrs drive away, so when we go it can quickly add up as we only go a few times a year. But even with that distance it’s worth it for buying similar things to what you got, which also aren’t easily available to me locally since I’m also rural.

We live in rural Canada and make the three hour round-trip twice a month to Costco in the city. We eat a Whole Foods diet and manage to buy about 90% of our groceries at Costco. Here in Canada the savings we get on the toilet paper and paper towel alone pay for our executive membership. we buy large quantities of organic frozen berries there. It definitely pays to shop on a weekday, we usually go every second Friday and it’s not as busy. Clothing items are also a very good deal and we find them to be good quality. Have fun on your next Costco haul☺️

Hi friend! I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving celebration with your family.
We actually live very close to multiple Costco’s. I don’t like to shop and rarely go. However we do purchase some of the things you purchased like the t-paper, p-towels, trash bags, plastic wrap etc. We have found all of them to be very good quality and purchase them regularly. For most of my food bulk buying I purchase from Azure. It’s a once a month shopping (if I need anything at all) and it’s where I buy my cheese, butter, parchment paper, wheat berries, oils, honey, syrup (I think I may try Costco’s option next time) spices and seasonings, and I’ve purchased lots of organic produce both fresh and frozen. It’s a company that I can get behind and who have been providing high quality sources of food for a long time. It was an adjustment financially when I started buying in bulk. But like you we eventually got to a place where with less shopping we were able to save up and buy in bulk. The shopping list is different each month depending on what we are needing to replenish. We are fortunate in that our Azure drop point is only about 10 min away from us. I know many people aren’t so lucky and drive an hour away to do their pick up. It may be worth checking out their website to see what they have to offer and where the nearest drop point is. There isn’t any membership required no purchase requirements.
I always enjoy haul videos from Azure and Costco especially if they share how they use certain products etc because I find it gives me new ideas.
Have a wonderful weekend Kelsey! God Bless you. 🧡🍁

I am so excited that you did your haul on your first visit to Costco!
They just opened one here in my area on the 17th with a big hoopdedo big grand opening. Well I’m not one for hoopla or crowds when I’m trying to think and compare prices and such so I still haven’t gotten there. But, even though it’s Black Friday and all the madness has increased and Costco is out near the crazy mall area, I am not going to wait til the shopping season is done. I’m finally in a position where I can eat on purpose and so I’m super excited for the Costco being near. I am still in a canning frenzy. Just have turkey breast in the canner cooling down. Broth stewing in the crock pot for another canning project. But I’ve got Costco on my list! Thank you for all you do!
If your new gluten free diet is sensitivity issues and not celiac then I may be able to help. ❤

We don't purchased processed food either and cook everything from scratch. That being said the real reason why we see so many bioengineered labels on so many things is because by law as of January 1, 2022 anything containing GMOs must be labeled bioengineered (because that's what a GMO is) rather than just saying contains GMOs. I love that it's making people take a second look at not eating gmo foods, but sadly doesn't apply to things like lab grown meat which is what a lot of people think it's meaning. So when it's on a meat package like chicken nuggets, a lot of times it's referring to the soybean, canola, corn etc type products that are also in the nuggets. Totally worth looking up the non gmo project website. So much to be looking out for beside just the label. Love your channel ❤

We had a Sam’s club membership years ago… like 7 years ago and Costco is more organic where Sam’s club is not . I watch the monthly sales and stock up that way too !!! Love it !!! We didn’t go to Sam’s club that often so we didn’t think we would benefit from Costco… but we do …… it’s asking great every few months they make things way down because a new item is coming in so like I got a 4 lbs of sharp cheddar cheese for $2.98 …. And yes I bought 8 of them. They don’t expire until 6/24. But I shredded them up and froze it in smaller portions!!! It’s just something to look at when you’re there !!!

I think they’re a really good quality, especially for the price. I also use Kirkland or Kerrygold butter. Since it’s just the two of us now, I don’t often buy in bulk unless I can freeze it. I do really like their paper towels and toilet tissue, too. We found that it does pay for the membership.

Do you notice a difference in the Kirkland vs Kerrygold butter?

@@user56gghtf I switched from Kerrygold to the Kirkland brand and noticed no difference: same yellow color and same great flavor. Kirkland only comes in salted (which we don't mind at all) and it's a few dollars cheaper per package.

I’m not a fan of peanut butter myself, but I do like to add them to smoothies for added protein. I like the Costco brand, it’s just peanuts and sea salt. Mixing it can take a few minutes though lol. Avoid Costco during the weekends and near holidays (if you can). I go once a month Tuesday or Wednesday. Happy belated birthday! I agree once we age what we find fun also changes. My husband took me antiquing for my birthday this year, a few years ago I would have begged him to take me to a hockey game 😂
