Pink is one of the few modern artists that I can be bothered with and this is a great cover, but as gifted as she is as a singer, it's also a reminder of the majesty of Grace Slick's original vocal.
A Jo. I agree. Pink is one of the few modern artist that I can listen to. This rendition is quite close to the magical Grace Slick's performance. The cover is superb in fact. It carries the spirit and tone of the original and something more. It's that intangible thing that is perhaps informed by Pink's own underlying messages as an artist. You believe her. If she were the right age, she would have been there with us in Woodstock. The sensibility is there. Amazing that this song is as valid now as then. Agree with the comment in this post regarding the instrumentality vs the voice, but to a lesser degree. There was only one point where there was a clash, in my opinion. But if that instrumentality could just be lowered slightly and Pink's voice allowed her full projection, that's easily cured. It was just a second or so and did very little to impact my enjoyment of her rendition. In my view a marvelous homage. In thinking of this further, back in those days, there was not the production quality that we have today. You heard the singer's naked voice. I think Pink could stand up to this as well. Most versions are all over the map with intensity as the singer tries to put their own stamp on this classic song. Pink nails everything about this song. She also does a magnificent version of Me and Bobby McGee. Didn't get to see Airplane, but did get to see Jefferson Starship before they became just Starship....Grace ,,,,,,AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!And just as a little side note you will see by my name,, I have went thru my whole life as--" bodine",Jethro bodine' "tull" " Jethro tull" "starship" " Jefferson Starship"and many others...lol.......
If you listen to the many covers of this song, you'll quickly find out that it's a VERY hard song correctly and most people can't get it right. This is the closest I've ever heard.
Wow, I'm blown away. I kept asking myself "could this be better than the original?" Of course not but damn.....she killed this.
Killer cover! The music and vocals are both outstanding. Glad the lyrics were included…there have been a couple misheard lyrics over the past 50+ years. ❤
"Have i gone mad?"
"I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something, the best people usually are.”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
From the beginning, Pink had something special in her voice that has only gotten better with age.
MAN!
Whoever produced and mixed this version of Pinks rendition of this great song did a great job!
The Pinkster can adapt to any song or situation. She's Great!!! The Pinkster and the Slickster are wonderful counterparts. It's a beautiful thing to listen to.
As a huge fan of the Grace Slick original I wasn’t even going to play this. I’m glad I did. Nice cover of a classic.
I really didn't think that anyone could sing this song as well as Grace did. Well I just got proved wrong. Great job. I'm truly impressed.
Sorry to say this, Bill, but if ya just copy the original, as good as it might be, it's still just a copy.
I'd stick with the Jefferson Airplane version.
