Growing up, I used to hid the fact that I was into anime/K-pop or that I had good grades because my Mexican and Black peers would always pick on me “omg man you’re so Asian” or “all you Asians are the same” stuff like that. Not that I ever would but imagine if I said the same thing to them, I would have got my ass handed to me. I love Black people, r&b/hip hop and the culture. Naturally I follow The Shade Room. There been times when I peep the comments of a post and SO many people would say the most racist and ignorant things about Asians, those comments would have so many likes. The majority would find it funny or agree with it. That just hurts me and makes me sad because I thought we were past that. Fried chicken and water melon aren’t funny jokes. Neither should eating dog or bat soup jokes. Making fun of other people’s cultural food that they grew up on is so wack. Also calling your nail tech “Ling Ling” is lame af and instead you should respect her by learning her real name. I just hope in the future, people would show the same care in what they say about Asians like how they treat all the other minority groups.
Hate to say this but The Shade Room is notoriously terrible even to the Black community. We're fed up with that group ourselves so it's a live and learn experience on which Black spaces are not only going to be welcoming to other groups but other kinds of Black people as well. Same with how not all Asian podcast groups or channels in general are the friendliest towards Black folks. Should we ask the native Americans if there are too many white people? This is unbelievable, I'm not American myself but I have family living in Cali. I do hope it will still be safe for them.
I think it's because Asians are an easy target. We're passive and encouraged not to push back. If you look up bullying stats by race, Asians are the most victimized. Also, since the U.S. is in a cold war with China, it makes it seem more acceptable. China is also the most populous country, makes it easier to justify.
I grew up and lived in the US for over 40 years, it all boils down to political value, we Asians, and especially Chinese Americans, do not have any political value because as a group we traditionally do not vote as a block, unlike the blacks, Latinos and the Jews. We also as a group do not protest or speak up.....whereas these other groups will protest at the slightest negative comment towards them.
It's purely historical. These are ethnic groups that have been present in the United States for several generations even though there were Japanese Americans and Chinese-Americans before. You tend to forget the banishment act of Asians and it is thanks to the civil rights struggle that the immigration of non-whites was again authorized.
As a black American with a Chinese wife I really hate the persistent and openly accepted caricatures of Asian people, and how all stereotypes, including those that are ostensibly “good” inevitably fail to bring the understanding that we all actually need.
Let's be realistic and look from a psychological standpoint from the outside looking in (and these are generalizations). 1) Asians don't talk back 2) Asians don't fight back 3) Asians don't assemble in numbers 4) Asians (when rebuttals are required) aren't well versed in verbal sword-play (because of culture and points #1, 2 and 3 and 5) If you want to feel bigger about yourself...one way is to make the 'lesser' person feel smaller to make yourself appear larger (especially if there's almost 0% risk in any way shape or form). That said...I'm Asian, but if I was a non-Asian who was a negative person, had insecurity issues and/or was racist or bias...I would 1,000,000% talk shit about Asians almost every day. It's THAT easy. And that's not a good thing.
This is a very good point. Often times Asians are more critical about other Asians than other races. But it's also about spending their entire lives to fit in to white America, and when another Asian doesn't conform, it is a threat to themselves as well.
Its different for me, I won't put up with anywhere. I am very proud to be Asian. We have culture, we honor our family and our elders, plus we age very well. There is no ethnicity I rather be.

The first Asians brought to this country was in the late 1500’s. They were Filipino. 1587-During the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade era, the Manila Galleon landed in Morro Bay, California. The landing party included Luzon Indios, indigenous Filipinos, who worked as sailors on board.
There will never be too many Asians. This is offensive to print. We as a nation are so very lucky that multiple Asian countries are represented in America. It is so offensive to print this. The WSJ would never have dared print this about any other group or ethnicity. This really tics me off. I want to learn about the various cultures and histories.
What does “model minority” really mean? In a way it’s good but in another way, it’s means we just do what we are told and don’t cause trouble and not speak up much…
I started reading the WSJ in 1988. It’s always been conservative, but the journalistic quality was very high. It went downhill (dumbed down, shorter, less in-depth) 10-15 years ago, and full blown MAGA in 2015, all from the Murdoch ownership. Now down to this level. I only use it now for following market news, quotes, etc. Read the FT (Financial Times) for high quality journalism, financial and geopolitical coverage. Sadly, I’m not surprised the WSJ would publish this.

We need to make those we vote into office earn our votes. Then we will get more recognition and validation ( not that we need it ) in this country. Stop giving your vote away!
The Ying-Yang shape as a metaphorical representation to me can sum that up. Taking the good with the bad and majoritally if something foreign and negative is being directed at another sum of a structure, if the base of that structure is cultivated to be strong then it was as if one rain-drop helped natural growth occur for a tree to further strengthen and endure any negativity the same size of a single drop of rain. But if a flood occurs then that tree will breath water and then there would be no more need to strengthen a underwater breathing tree with one single drop of rain. The rain will still exist, but will the tree notice that single drop of rain from above touching now a plate of water hiding a sunken tree? Asian culture is real culture, their elders don’t play it then the lot of the family don’t play with it. Entertainment and rude words out of context and meant to insult as a prank don’t mix. How about just stick to what you know and worry less of other peoples culturally shocking languages and customs, I’m sure they’d barely even mind being seen as foreign. They don’t teach being rude as a custom in societies with family morals.

As an Asian that used to live in NYC and left 15 years ago, I think the main problem with alot of Asians in the US, especially men, have been there all their lives so they are blind to all the blatant racism we have to endure. We are a passive race of people, taught at a young age to obedient, desperately want to live in America, and worse of all, unable to unite as an Asian tribe. We have alot of Asian pride out of necessity but deep down we are not united. ALSO, this might be an unpopular take, but we see a high percentage of Asian women dating western dudes and this further empowers them to treat us like this. The primal instinct of man who can dominate another species of women will have this kind of effect. In conclusion, now that I no longer live in that society, I feel a heavy load lifted from my shoulders and there's no way I can see myself going back to being treated like second rate citizens. Unfortunately, this will continue to happen due to our own upbringings, values, lack of unity, and self depricacy in a world full of asshole white people.

We have to admit that our population in West Country is relatively small, not to say we are raised more like to keep ourselves in line, which worked well in Asia but not there.
Why don't Asians take more action? Is it bc many of us are so busy working? Lack of unity? I don't get it. Even something as simple as an email campaign will help Asians in a big way.

There was one Asian girl on there and one of the other white women said "why would he be interested in her, she's Asian..." she said it so nonchalantly and it was just so gross. No one even said anything about that.
I remember seeing America Top Model clip and there was this Korean girl that said she wanted represent Asians in positive light but trashed Asian men. Tyra and the panel called her out on her bullshit.

Its hard to ignore. Lived my life in Kansas before I moved. Dealt with alot of racism. Got into alot of fights because I did not tolerate the white/black kids calling me "ching chong/dog eater etc." After awhile I earned a reputation as someone who didnt put up with any shit. Eventually, more asians moved there and we formed our own little posse and nobody messed with us. We weren't hoodlums, 3 out 4 became physicians and the other one became a geologist. haha

Absolutely 💯
Growing up I always noticed how people had no problem picking on me for being Asian.
I just hope in the future, people would show the same care in what they say about Asians like how they treat all the other minority groups.
asian woman react by dating the sickest low life white people to diss theire own asian men
Hate to say this but The Shade Room is notoriously terrible even to the Black community. We're fed up with that group ourselves so it's a live and learn experience on which Black spaces are not only going to be welcoming to other groups but other kinds of Black people as well. Same with how not all Asian podcast groups or channels in general are the friendliest towards Black folks. If you truly (as you put) love Black folks, and I mean us (the people) and not just the mainstream consumable parts of our culture, I urge you deeply to branch out to smaller Black creators cause there are plenty that are Asian friendly unlike the mainstream ones that are considered problematic within even the Black community itself.

@@obviouslyme3950 I 100% agree with this comment, TSR is so damn TOXIC! A lot of these Black American blog/news sites are that live for the most ratchet & worst of the Black community but are the same ones that will get upset if you call them out & true the Black community can be very monolithic & binary about how to be Black & really just judge themselves & everyone else according to a stereotype. That's why sometimes I just can't relate with some people.
But all that aside yeah, there are some many positive Black news & entertainment channels that spread positivity & you have Black people who love Anime & Asian culture as well, it's a rising & somewhat common thing nowadays, we exist we're here. That damn mainstream makes it hard to notice unfortunately.
@@FluteCheerios Absolutely agree. Even Black folks have to navigate our own spaces carefully and I certainly do it myself. Sometimes the help out and give money to anything remotely Black attitude can be a detriment because not everything Black owned, made, or including us is for us. Therefore knowing what to support and who's really for collective respect and liberation across the board, is a vital skill to have cause otherwise you end up giving views and money to people who may be skin folk but ain't kin folk.
And yep, Black folks been into anime before it became a thing for celebrities to announce that they were into it themselves. I'm one of those Black folks who grew up (and still is) one of those anime nerds back when it was considered whack to be that. Not to mention there's plenty of Blasian folks out there doing the work that really don't get the support that they should from any side of their heritage so make sure to check up on them as well. Overall cultivate your spaces carefully and watch who you give your viewership and money to.
Sa an African American, I happy to see you finally speak up. Don't let others decide what offends you. You tell them what offends you. After that, the rule should be set. Meaning, once you tell them, there should be no other discussion about it. They should respectfully be more considerate.

Even the two mass shootings everyone was shocked 2 asians committed the crimes, those were horrific crimes but the fact that most of the nation was shocked that we could be capable of something like that makes me see that people dont see us as human beings with problems just like everyone else. The Fung Brothers hve taken a very important lead for Asians to speak up.Awesome brothers.
Thank you guys for calling this out!
1) Asians don't talk back
2) Asians don't fight back
3) Asians don't assemble in numbers
4) Asians (when rebuttals are required) aren't well versed in verbal sword-play (because of culture and points #1, 2 and 3 and
5) If you want to feel bigger about yourself...one way is to make the 'lesser' person feel smaller to make yourself appear larger (especially if there's almost 0% risk in any way shape or form).

When I returned to (unnamed western country), I had one older white guy (50+, well educated and somewhat left-leaning) at a gathering ask me about my experiences in China. I then talked about how I re-embedded myself in Chinese culture and acquired near-native Chinese proficiency. He then replied: you surely aren’t more like them now, are you? Like being fully Chinese (or Asian for that matter) was a bad thing.

We’re lucky that we’re here!!!

Because that’s not true. But there are lots of Hispanics and one time in California in the 1800s we actually had more Chinese than Mexicans. Nothing wrong with stating that there too many of so and so ethnic groups.

You gotta go back a whole 31 years for the last time Asians did not put up with Black Men committing violent crimes in their community with The Roof Top Armed To The Teeth Koreans. You do not see that shit in The 21st Century.
@@josephimperatrice5552 Yakuza and Triads? Bruh I know you must not have grown up around ghetto Asians cause I remember when Cambo, Hmong, Lao, and Viet gangs did their shit during the 90's, 2000's and even into the 2010's.
FOH with your shit cause, if you ARE Asian, you probably one of those square bear dudes who let people disrespect you when you were younger cause you were too scared to back your play. I know plenty of Brothers who get down and ride for Asian folks so don't throw their whole race under the bus cause you were too pussy to stand up for yourself.
@xoloming
Ain't none of those Southeast Asian gangs you mentioned doing shit about the Black guys who enter Asian communities to commit the knock out game on them or rob Asian businesses at gunpoint. Black guys would never terrorize the Latino Cholo Barrios the way they terrorize Asian communities because the Cholos like Nortenos, Surenos, MS-13, Mexican Mafia would put a bullet in their motherfucking heads. The Cholos are even running the Brothas out of Compton. Every 10 years during the census Compton is becoming a lot more Cholo and a lot less Black. The Cholos are taking over Black communities in South Los Angeles like the alpha males that they are!
@@josephimperatrice5552 bro you definitely did not grow up in the ghetto cause SEA'S is doing that now and have been doing that against Latinos and Blacks you just don't see it cause it ain't on the news or in your neighborhood. Folks like you are just feeling it now cause its more out there on the media now and its affecting the more affluent Asian communities in the States. Thats why you're pushing the whole Asian vs Black thing.
Another reason I know you don't get the street race war thing is because you clearly didn't live in places like Long Beach during the 90's and 2000's when the Mexicans were trying to drive out the Asians and Blacks by shooting at us because of our race (the same thing you're giving them props for in Compton).
You're giving props to dudes who are literally writing NK on the walls and acting like those same cholos didn't and wouldn't do the same to Asian people. You wanna be like that then go kick it with the Hoteps or the KKK cause they push that racial cleansing line too.
If we have any Brandon Tsay fan Mail, where should we send to? I need to talk to him.
With all more and more limited resources, guess which group could be squeezed harder and harder?
Yes we asians are not taken seriously and this is coming from conservative journals. So all the conservative asians need to wake up and let them hear our voices.
