Overall Attack on Titan sub is better than dub and til this day I've only watched one anime with dub being better than sub, that being Vinland Saga but Erwin Smith dub beats the sub easily for me. Also Levi dub ain't bad but not as good as sub. But the voice actors of Eren, Armin, Mikasa and literally everyone else just sucks in dub. AoT has one of the worst dubs in anime history.

I think there is some misunderstanding of the translation. In Japanese, Erwin says "兵士よ怒れ/叫べ/戦え". which is, roughly, "my soldiers rage/scream/fight". I think "push forward" is fight. They changed the order maybe to have better sync with the visual. Fight and Rage are both used in both versions. Push forward is better for Erwin because it makes more sense in the situation, tatakae is a more broad term than fight. I guess "fight on" would work as well.

While, "Because my soldiers do not buckle or yield when faced with the cruelty of this world" sounds cool, "That is the sole method in which we can rebel against this cruel world" is one of the deepest and most haunting line of dialogue ever.

I watched AoT in dub and that speech had me crying AND pumped. That delivery made me want to get a tattoo of that ending part.

I’m partial to Japanese when it comes to anime and English when it involves cartoons. I think cartoons portray less of the emotion visually and more so with the dialogue which works well with English voice actors as they have free reign to communicate their emotions through the dialogue how they see fit and the animation doesn’t feel slighted because of how simplified cartoons usually are. With anime 80% of the emotion is portrayed with the animation and it’s almost always over-exaggerated to emphasize the point being made. The other 20% seals the deal and the effort made by the voice actor to truly cement the emotions of the character that we see on screen makes the scene. This is a really good example of how that complex system plays out. Both voice actors are obviously extremely talented and know who they’re playing and what he stands for. There is one small difference that makes Onos performance stand apart and truly reach that 100% that makes the scene epic. Erwin’s face is communicating his humanity, he doesn’t look like a badass and brave leader who’s going to kill everything and is leading his men to battle. He has the weight of what he knows is going to be the death of him and all his subordinates on his shoulders. He looks scared, he looks like he wants to turn and run. Onos delivery of the lines portrays those feeling where Tatums misses the most important aspect of the delivery, and that’s the fear that goes with it.
