The scene starting at 0:55 is a clever reference to Season 1. The Marley commander is making the same pose and hand motion as the Garrison commander in Season 1 who had Eren surrounded in the town square with cannons. In both scenes, Armin charges forward and gives a passionate speech on behalf of humanity to save his comrades. In Season 1, they do fire the cannon and Eren has to transform to block the cannonball from hitting Mikasa and Armin. This time, they literally can't transform and is a positive indication of humanity's progress and mutual understanding, even after a brutal Rumbling.

Just goes to show that as long as there is society there will always be another Eren Jaeger somewhere, no matter the time or setting. There will always be people full of hatred, inequality, and/or greed, who will use the hatred, inequality, and greed of others to do terrible things. The cycle of violence will never end, as long as ideology pits us against each other. Sounds like what the author is trying to say here…

Müller is portrayed somewhat differently in the manga. His facial expression conveys more regret and anguish that he potentially has to slaughter the Eldians. Either that, or risk them becoming Titans and killing them. You get the feeling that he doesn't want to slaughter them out of hatred, like your typical Marleyan. But that he'll do it if he must to protect his people. And when Armin breaks out his 'Talk no Jutsu', Müller signals for the soldiers to lower their weapons. In the anime, none of this is present.

Let's not go down the path of full desperation. Violence will be active for a while in human nature, but at least we can try to identify the Tyburs, the Fritz, the Marleyan Warlords of our world who get rich with wars while transferring the risks, the suffering and all the costs to the planet and to the vulnerable people, those who propagate, amplify and exploit the ignorance, aversion and attachments of the people. To identify the oppressors and exploiters is part of the fight Historia was talking about, the legacy of Erwin. Also, a fight against our own ignorance, aversions and attachments (the legacy of Armin, Reiner, Falco and the other surviving veterans) in order to not let ourselves be dragged into the role the powerful Merchants of War want us to play.

The idea that the cycle of violence never ends fits well with the overarching themes of the series that had been built up since part one of season 4, particularly with the basement scene between Eren and Reiner, and Gabi’s entire character arc. The overall theme is presented in Armin’s discussion with Zeke in the Paths: Though conflict between people will probably always be inevitable, life is still worth living, for the banal, everyday joys of being with your loved ones, and that despite their conflicts, each side isn’t so different because of it, and because of that, we should see the humanity in others the best we can.

I think that’s the kid we see at the end. The kid finds the tree, but inside there is no titans, no powers, no magic. He finds the tombstones of Eren and Mikasa. He will lay down to rest there, concluding humanity’s time on earth.

Yes but at least they won’t have godlike power like the Rumbling to cause an extinction event
In a way, it’s what Eren worked toward
The reason why the Royals plan of controlling Eldian population with the walls and Titans didn’t work, was because it didn’t stop Marley from attempting to betray the peace and seize the Founder on their own. It’s why Reiner and the Warriors was on Paradis to begin with
Zeke’s euthanazation plan can’t work because it kept the Founding Titan in the equation
The threat of a Rumbling didn’t stop Marley ri try seize the Founder before, and even if Eldians wipe out by old age, it only removes the Eldians unintention line of defense in the Titans themselves without the Eldians
It only makes it easier for nations like Marley to try take the Founder, which goes back to the original problem
Eren’s plan was sadly the most variable one as he pushed the world to destroy himself, while wrecking ambitious countries like Marley and leave behind the best of humanity to inherit the world
In destroying himself while having the Founder’s full power, he removed Titans fein the world
Even as Paradis became fascist, the remaining nations Of the world still exist to keep it in check
Truth is yes there’s no stopping war, they’ll always be problems
Only thing can be done is resolve the problems of the present and enjoy the brief peace in between it before war resumes again

I love it, the realistic part is not just that war is terrible and all but the anime shows the CONTINUITY of human nature. This commander when Eren was destroying everything admitted « this is Marley’s fault, we just get punished for what we have done, if only we had cared about eldians etc… » and just a second after Eren dies he immediately takes back his role of the Marleyan oppressor against Eldians. The credits at the end ruins the whole ending. Without it, at least it offers an opportunity to tell a message where you're at a fork in the road. You could go down the road to ruin Without countering elements like the nazis or yeagerist OR you can heed the warning and be proactive. So that we can continue to live on peace and progress foward. As not everyone are with the yangerest. Conflict is always a thing, but it doesn't have to end with ruin. Change is possible. I see a deconstruction of a classic anime trope in Attack on Titan: That only by fighting, the main characters will achieve peace and victory.
We see that that's not the case here...
The eldians screaming "Fight, fight! If we fight, we win" are only continuing the cycle and guaranteeing that the fighting will never end... The saddest part is, they may be right...
The truth is that no fight is worth the cost. None at all. There is no such thing as a "righteous war," and while peace may be unjust, an unjust peace is always better than war.
