Well he offers that price at first to begin with because he obviously knows that the seller is going to try and haggle with him over the price and that his ultimate final offer is definitely going to end up being higher than what his original offer was, ya know?
@ekimshield asstriks is worse. Yes black Sox was playing to lose for a reason, they wanted a salary that was fair so they stuck it to the owner. What the asstriks did was cheat everyone else. They "won" without deserving it. Both the Yankees and dodgers had a better team that year. Without the cheating they would have lost to both teams.
Are you actually stupid enough to think some clowns banging trash can lids, was worse than the black Sox? Go back to fortnite kid. You are too dumb for the internet.
They were known as the "Black Sox" before they threw the world series. Owner Charles Comiskey charged the players to launder their uniforms, thus the players wound up just wearing dirty uniforms
The signatures may be genuine but the baseball dates from the mid thirties at the earliest. Up to then red and black twine was used for the National League ball (Spaulding) and red and blue for the American League ball (Reach).
Has anyone noticed that when rick says “the risk is all on me” people either drop out or they accept the deal? That might be his cue to them to take it or leave it
at least 3 players from 1919 white sox are on that ball, Faber, Schalk and Joe Benz who threw a no hitter in his career...wish could see the rest of the signatures
The 1919 White Sox were actually these second highest paid team in the league that year. But their owner withheld all of the bonuses he promised them. Benching Ed ciccotte for five games so he wouldn't hit his bonus.
People like you will become hoarders. Retails at $2k but Rick will let it go for $1.2-1.8k and that might be months after finding a buyer. He's running a successful business.
I don't get it. Rick says someone will come in and beat him down to 1,400 for the ball. Wouldn't that be Ricks fault? You don't have to sell it at what your customers want it for. Smh!
Block Party Saint it works both ways people haggle when they sell and when they buy,if someone is putting cash on the table and it gives the. Shop a profit they will take the cash
This does not look like a 1919 Reach baseball. I would have questioned the "Compliments of Tony Piet" printed on it (he also signed it), Plus the ink colors are different. I don't think Ole Shakey knew what he was talking about. Piet played from 1931-1938, so even if the signatures are real, they were signed years after the scandal; don't know if that makes a difference, but it would for me.
They ball was certainly signed years later, an actual 1919 white sox team ball would be tens of thousands. Hundreds of thousands if shoeless joe signed (but none exist)
What they said wasn't entirely true. The White Sox weren't the worst paid team in 1919; far from it. In fact, their overall payroll was among the highest in baseball. Part of that was due to Eddie Collins, the starting second baseman who had a degree from Columbia. He negotiated a salary that was one of the highest in baseball, 5-6 times the average. The rest of the Sox were paid average to just above average for the time, but many of them were far from average players. In addition to the two hall-of-famers in the video (Schalk and Faber), Collins would also make the HOF, and at least two of the suspended players were sure bets for the hall (OF Joe Jackson and P Eddie Cichotte). You could make a case for one or two others as well.
Cashier:ok so u want Nike’s huh that will be 50$ Rick:I’ll give u 5$ I’m taking a risk here Cashier:sir it’s 50$ that’s the price Rick:ok let me call a friend that knows a lot about nike
The guy who he got the ball from probably was no secret the rule book was original. It was just something that would go along with memorabilia from that era is all. 9-4-19
Dramatic Archie like this guy: ua-cam.com/video/CN3wstLt0Mc/v-deo.html I felt horrible for this dude. They should have sent someone to follow him to make sure he didnt try to off himself with that reproduction gun. He was a perfect example of someone at the end of their rope.
Customer:Here's an authenticated intricately carved drinking horn recovered from a Viking burial mound,it's in almost perfect condition, valued at around 50 grand.. Rick: I'll give you 50 bucks, and I'm taking a huge risk here.
The FIRST thing I noticed when they showed us the rule book was that it had white pages. It looks BRAND NEW. I thought he was tossing it into the deal as a novelty not as an antique. Any dummy knows pages yellow with time. Did the seller REALLY think it was an original 1919 publication?
Rick needs to get a signature specialist with baseballs and memorabilia most of the time these can be forged. He needs to make sure that ball is not a forgery. 1930s balls are signed with fountain pins and ink wells if a felt pen or ballpoint is used the ball is fake.
David Petriuska who wrote the definitive book about the scandal (not Eliot Asinof) , and followed up by SABR researcher Pomrenke proved that the players didn't throw the WS to get back at "cheapskate" Comiskey. On the contrary, they were one of the highest paid players in baseball. They just got greedy and Arnold Rothstein, sensing opportunity to make $$, jumped on it. Both Faber and Schalk are in the HOF, karma for players who played to win instead of throwing the game. However, if Shoeless Joe was on that baseball, it would be $10K, at least.
Sure, if you didn't have a TV series, it would be hard to get 2 grand for it. But I'm sure someone called the week this aired and offered more than that.
Scotty Smalls: I have this baseball signed by Babe Ruth and the rest of the 1927 Yankees Rick: the best I can do is my sons busted up glove, I'm taking a major risk here
