My Grandfather said if you have a good hat and good shoes it didn't matter what you wore in between. You still looked good with a good hat and good shoes.
I think we just found the justification for those streakers with a nice pair of boots and an awesome hat and nothing else.
Grandfather was spot on!
WHAT????
I cant buy my Car Oil, Salami, get a hair cut, buy Kitty Litter, Shirt, and my Shoes in the same Store?????
The horror!!!
Lololol. 😉
As long as the clothes fit
100% agree that the "suits and sneakers" trend needs to go! Sneakers have their place, but I've also seen how Cary Grant and Paul Newman rocked some loafers as a casual alternative - so classy!
David Lettermen is to blame for the sneakers and suits, I was horrified and started wearing dress shoes with tee shirts and jeans as a protest.
😂
I thought it was Woody Allen when he took a first Lady to a play and wore a tux with red sneekers
Yeah, those were actually wrestling shoes he wore, which makes it even more of a fashion faux pas, and I am certainly no style expert.
i don't wear suits but i do wear black wholecut oxfords with my jeans
So, I guess Spongebob Squarepants sneakers with a suit is out? (Yes, I know THAT guy.) 😏
I am 73 and still have the shoe shine box that was gifted to me as a teenager. It seems we dressed differently in the 50s and 60s and NO ONE would be caught in sneakers outside the gym. Those habits have stayed with me all these years so, I totally agree with your statement on that subject. Great video as usual.
Thank you. We’re trying to pull men back to the good old days of classic shoes!
@@TrentonHeath you guys are a bad influence. 6 months ago i owned no shoe trees. now i have 22. even my running and hiking shoes have shoe trees in them.
Back when men would wear suits. Now you go somewhere like the airport and half the people have sweat pants and flip flops on.
I hate the trend of suits that look like they are two sizes too small. There is no way that can be comfortable.
I agree ONE HUNDRED PERCENT with the suits and sneakers. Also, I absolutely love cleaning, conditioning, and polishing my shoes. People may not really notice crappy shoes, but they will definitely notice a quality pair of shoes that are properly cared for. They really stand out in a good way. I get comments on my shoes all the time, and it feels good. 👍🏻
The only use case is Manhattan. People wear their sneakers while commuting, and then switch to oxfords or derbies at the office. I have had to run… and I mean RUN a half mile through midtown on MANY occasions to avoid the wrath of an evil boss, or catch a train or bus. I have done this in dress shoes and in sneakers. It’s easier in sneakers. Side note: the irony of running in a suit is… the more high quality the suit… the less you want to run in it, but the easier it is to move in.
Unfortunately the majority of people (that don’t know what quality footwear is) Will look at this and say “that’s way too much to do” but they don’t understand that if taken care of the shoes will last possibly their entire life.
I think the most important point you guys make is to look after your shoes, clean the leather, moisturize them, polish them. So often I see shoes which are crying out for a bit of TLC. Sole protectors are great, and don't let your heel block wear down too far. Cheap shoes and faux welted shoes are more expensive than real welted shoes in the long run.
Amen!
100% agree. Please no sneakers with suits! Thank you for saying that.
I can’t believe that they had to say it at all! But i’ve seen them... 😄
There’s a saying in Spanish that goes something like, “lo barato sale caro.” Pretty much what it means is, if you buy cheap you will pay more money. I’ve bought cheap boots on kohl’s and they’ve fallen apart pretty fast. I’ve gone back an bought more from the same place. With what I’ve spent on cheap shoes, I could have bought a high quality pair and it would have lasted way longer. Thanks to this channel I’ve been able to stop buying cheap shoes.
My grandpa always used to say "son, first look at the shoes of any guy you'll come across". This was roughly 60 years ago. Boy, what would he think on seeing all the sneakers people are wearing these days?
Good job guys as always! Appreciate it.
Thank you and grandpa was RIGHT!
You grandfather and mine were the same type of guys, my grandfather would tell me " when you leave the house Look like somebody "
I was raised that way. We were poor but I always had a black and a grey suit and leather shoes to match. Church, fumerals, music events, etc. A different time.
My father was a pilot in the Airforce during WWII. (ARMY AIRCORP THEN) My mother was an RN. They both had very narrow feet! My parents never skimped on our shoes, and ALL six kids learned to care for his or her shoes. I still take shoes to be repaired even though I now have to drive 30 miles each way.
I just bought my almost 16 year old granddaughter her first pair of GOOD boots.....and a care kit!
This channel ROCKS!
Such an underrated channel. Great content! Shoutout from Romania.
Thank you for watching.

Wearing sneakers with suits - yeah, I HATE this too. One time, I saw a guy wore this during his wedding. With no socks. "Cool, hip, being his own man, making a statement"? The message I got was, he looked like a dolt.
And how sad that the bride was (probably) OK with that look.
Yeah, my pastor wears nice dress shoes with jeans and no socks... I cringe every time I see that. Yeah, I'm showing my age, and don't care. LOL
@@RatdogDRB He's probably wearing sox that you can't see! They seem to be the rage for both men and women.. I think they look stupid! 🤦
Totally agree about sneakers and suit 🤪
Thank you, gentlemen. Solid advice. “Cheap is expensive” is true when it comes to men’s shoes. Appreciate the advice (and especially the channel!).
Thank you!
You are both Responsible for revolutionizing my footwear. I have ordered 4 pairs of shoes in the last week. Only difference this time around is I have new founded knowledge to base my decision upon. 3 pair of Thursday’s and 1 pair of Beckett’s will be the beginning of my collection.
I even ordered a bunch of polish from you guys.
Thanks and keep up the content.
I totally agree with you. Do NOT wear sneakers with a suit! It makes you look like a 🤡
"Stop wearing sneakers with your suit"....an Amen coupled with a praise break.
Having watched your channel for about a year now, it’s great to see how much more comfortable and animated you’ve both become in front of the camera! Especially noticeable with all of Trenton’s different voices in this one😂
You guys are spot on!!
The sneaker comment is 100% accurate! If one buys a good leather shoe, the longer they’re worn, the more comfortable they become.
Nice guidelines! Thanks guys ☺️
One thing I realized that I do a lot that was tearing through my leather soles: Pivoting on the ball of my foot on pavement when getting into my car. This is probably especially important advice for people who drive cars that sit low to the ground. I was so confused why I kept blowing through my left soles so fast till I started paying attention to habits I have and once I realized I do this, I stopped ruining all my shoes.
Excellent video guys
Another great video!
Sadly, I hardly see anyone wearing leather shoes anymore. If I encounter three men wearing leather shoes, molded soles or not, while I am out, that is alot.
An old man once told me: "we were so poor, we couldn't afford cheap things".
If I see three real men out of 100 males per day that is a lot
“Stop wearing sneakers with your suits” You guys just went from cool to LEGEND. Could not agree more.
100% right guys!!!! Stay with the classics and take care of them!! thanks for the video!
Just discovered your channel on youtube and i gotta say that i love your video's and content you put out there.
I can't stop watching your video's, there are very inspiring to me. It drives me to start fixing my own shoes and do something with it.
You got yourself another subscriber gentlemen, you deserve it.
Thank you and keep on doing what you love to do.
I LOVE Business Wars!! Such a great podcast. I have recently gone away from nice shoes, but watching you videos have brought me back to loving them again.
First time I've n a very long time that I've gotten one of your videos....ive been subbed over a year with notifications on....happy to finally get one.
I wish I found you guys about 10 years ago. I would have saved a lot of money on dress shoes. Watching your videos, seeing your work and hearing your explanations and thoughts about shoes has made me reconsider my footwear choices. There are so many quality options out there I had no idea about until I started watching you. Thank you for taking the time to help us shoe novices.
Thank you for watching!
I've been researching for a good quality everyday boot, and came upon your channel. It's cool you're here in Nashville. I'll have to come by your shop sometimes. Great and instructive videos by the way. Keep up the great work!
Try some Thorogoods 814-4200
Thank you gents for speaking up. Very well said. I have learned so much about the right shoes and well made shoes from you and your channel. My father taught me that a man is judged by the shoes he wears. God bless you both and your families.
Thank you so much. God bless!
Once again Heath----thanks for the trademark smirk !!!!! It really makes my day. ( And afterwards I'll listen to anything you two have to say !)
😁
I started buying good quality boots since I started watching this channel! Thanks so much guys!!!
You can get away with wearing cheap sneakers but not cheap boots.
Another great video Guys.
As we say, in the great North of England, "buy cheap, buy twice"!!
I now only buy Barker or Loake shoes because cheaply made, fashion shoes always wear out far too quickly.
For those of us with extra-wide feet, most of the higher-end companies do not make anything beyond a EEE width. I have two pair of Allen Edmonds and love them, but they do pinch a bit in the width.
If you can ever make it up to Carmina’s New York store, they have a kind of customization option there where they basically alter the shape of their last to accommodate different foot sizes. It’s not bespoke, but an alteration to their wider variation of the Rain last might be just the thing for you. The shoes are expensive, but I did some extra work to buy a pair and I think it was worth it
Have you verified the fitment on a Brannock Device? Do not go ONLY with where your toes land to determine your shoe size. My toes go to the 13 mark, but the inner (sliding) side scale suggests a size 15, the outer one suggested a "D" width. I'd been buying 13EEE and 14EE. I ordered a 15D Allen Edmonds and they fit like a glove, no more pinching at the sides. I now have 7 pairs of AE and they all fit GOOD, even though they're made from different lasts. For me... I really like the fit of the 201 last built models.
Yeah, I've always lucked out because my foot is pretty much exactly the standard D width. With a really atypical foot like that, it might be worth looking into some of the custom options like White's or Nicks to get something that fits perfectly.
Hey guys, your Southern Polished brand looks nice but I can't wear sandals with a thong between the big toe and the others - tried before, doesn't feel right. Have you considered adding a fisherman-type sandal to the lineup?
Love the video, thanks. I've been subscribed to Audible for a few years. As someone with a reading "challenge" i love listening to Audible. It's especially good at "killing time in my commute to and back from work". Sometimes I'm almost disappointed I at my destination because I'm enjoying the books / podcast THAT much.
Great advices and best crew for shoes repair, 100% fan of the channel. Great video guys.!
I love this channel guys ! Much love ❤️ even as a railroad conductor I clean and condition my work boots ... Let’s just say I have some of the cleanest boots out here on the RAILS
I value your opinions. Who better than you gentlemen you guys know shoes. You are absolutely correct you can buy really good shoes at a great price. You just have to put the time and effort to look around. Have a great weekend gentlemen. Be safe
Thank you very much!
If I see someone with sneakers and a suit on, I cannot take them seriously
Agree with you, Jack.
@@victorcross5949 thank, but my name is Jake =P
@@jakeluginbuhl9960 Sorry, Jake. No offence intended.
I love your accents. So beautiful to listen to. Not all American accents are easy on the ear but yours are. ❤️
I’m not going to give up my penny loafers 😁
Did someone say to do so?
@@drzaius844 it was a joke. They were talking about outdated shoes and I’ve been wearing penny loafers since the 60’s
Thank goodness! Ninety percent of the time. I am in workbooks and jeans. But when I am in my suit. Clean shave. Nice tie. And definitely dress shoes.
All great tips, being doing all of them since getting into you guys! Ace content again!
💯 agree on snkrs with suit. You guys rock , as always. Much love
Thanks!
Love this chanel! It would be great reviews for women's shoes
Elegant, clear and great channel. Congratulations from Chile
Thank you for watching!
Hey guys, I've got educated about shoes by you more than I've been by my entire family. For instance I thought that 1 piece welt was something used for all shoes and didn't know that are other types. Thanks :D
Just ordered a pair of classic oxfords with a blind stitch Goodyear sole. I can’t believe I know what this is now😄 but I’m really stoked. I never knew how terrible my dress shoes were until I started watching these guys. 😂
Very fun video, guys! As to the sneakers with suits: I agree with you - mostly. For 95% of us, it doesn’t work. But as with any fad, there are always some guys who can pull it off. Happy Mother’s Day to the moms in your family!
Thanks. Yes, to each his own, huh?
@@TrentonHeath Very true. Some people aren’t into being classic, for example. They may be into pushing boundaries or defining a new look that the next generation might look back on and call “classic.” Lol.
Just ordered a pair of walnut bull hide sandals, cant wait ! A Fan.
Thanks for the tips. Especially the sneakers one! Video request: most of my shoes are suede, how do I care for them for longevity? Thanks again!
I feel like the advice about the molded shoe was directed at me........after I emailed you about my molded boots....you mentioned that they cant be properly repaired......
A|nd you were right.......in some parts......my cobbler resoled my boots for a fair price, but forget to sand off / rough up the new Vibram boots before gluing them on......and they came loose!
So I did it myself....after watching your videos........roughed up the rubber soles and glued them back on. And so far they hold much better......
At least I can use them for a while longer now.
And talking about buying high class classic shoes for a good price.......I still have my awesome Allen Edmonds oxfords....which have mint uppers...and a good leather sole. I got them just for about $70 incl postage on ebay.......but I was hesitant to wear them this winter, because of al the snow, moisture and salt.
But summer is coming and than its Allen Edmonds time!
During the winter season I wore a pretty good rubber soled stitched leather sole by GEOX ( dont know if this brand is familiar in the US ) ....( might be just a german brand ) but its a good stitched shoe on a budget but with good quality leather.
and talking about Audible......I tried that...its fun though.....but for a lecture or infomercial, I still prefer sitting down to listen to it, or reading it.
And fictional stories / books on audio tape I sometimes listen to at night right before sleeping...otherwise I just read the book ( an actual book with pages and flipping through them )
Awesome video. Bold views, but I agreed with all of them. Superb 👌🏻
Sneaker and suits are workable depending on the suit material. I won't do it with worsted fabrics or other dressier fabrics, but I will definitely wear a canvas high top with a cotton or linen suit.
Because of you, I gave donated all my cheap, Payless, plastic shoes and invested in leather/suede shoes that fit. I also my make sure they have been re-healed and polished. I decided my comfort and foot health is directly related to keeping my shoes in top condition. And yes, stop wearing sneaking with anything but workout wear! Ladies I'm talking to you.💖
very amusing vid!
I pulled the trigger on a pair of Beckett Simonon bordeaux single monks about a year ago. They are affordable, they were comfortable right out of the box and the only events I would not wear them would be a wedding or funeral. Otherwise they go with all my work wear and suiting. They look great with dark denim as well. I have more expensive shoes but these are my go to. You definitely can afford good quality shoes.
Great thanks for the info 👍
I had shoes that were so old the style came back again! LOL! A possible addition is Don't forget to use a shoehorn. I wrecked a lot of shoes not using one. Great Video! Thanks!
I totally agree with you gentlemen
I am enjoying this content
Love you guys! Great conversation. I have some shoes that just don’t fit right or feel uncomfortable. I need to toss them into the AmVets or Goodwill box. Thank you.
Regarding book references, now that you two brought it up, I'm looking forward to the video where you talk about your favorite titles. Personally, as the youngsters say, I'm trash for historical fiction. My favorite video is the one where the Civil War era shoes were repaired. I just finished watching Chernobyl and Atlantic Crossing so my ears immediately perked up.
I know your channel is more geared towards men’s shoes but you two a responsible for my change in shoes over the last 2 years. I used to just get fast fashion shoes and throw them out once worn through. Now I’m the proud owner of some brilliant Goodyear welted and Blake stitched leather boots and shoes. Most of them bought second hand but in great condition.I love polishing them and wearing them. I truly think they are timeless. So thank you for your education.
That’s awesome! Glad some of our videos have been educational and helped. Another brand you may want to look at is The Office of Angela Scott. Mostly lace-up shoes but very high quality women’s shoes.
@@TrentonHeath amazing I’ve never heard of them but just had a look and wow their shoes are beautiful. Thanks for the recommendation. I’m in England (UK) so will try and find a retailer here and have a look out for second hand shoes online.
love ur every content ❤️
Thank you!
I have been forever grateful to my local cobbler for putting me on to quality shoes, namely Allen-Edmonds. Not the greatest maybe, but good enough for me and other than my very first pair, they have all been from eBay.
Thanks for the video, friends. I wear dress shoes only with my suit or tux. And that is rare. I wear sneakers with gym shorts or sweat pants
You say these six are just your opinion. They are solid advice to make the most of your wardrobe and money.
On the last one - I have a pair of Church's Moccasins that are square toed. I bought them at a Prada outlet in Italy more than 20 yrs ago....they are so impeccably made, and so comfortable, and once every two years I pull them out and try to pull them off - but I can't...
Still refuse to sell them or give them away, because they are just so amazing in leather and make.
I like this content. More in detail of care techniques and different styles of shoe-wood for different types of shoes/boots would be appreciated too!
Best regards from Sweden!
One of my favorite memories was watching my dad bring out the shoe shine box on Saturday night and polish his good shoes for church the next day. Men just do not do this anymore.
You right on all I get tired of the same shoes when we going to see your design for full shoes or boots the sandals are great 👍
Unfortunately, Time is of the essence each day. 😢
Almost every pair of quality dress shoes/ boots i own were purchased for under 50 dollars from resale shops. Had most resoled and have lasted years. It can ve done and is well worth it. Plus hunting them down is half the fun.
Great information as always. What is your go to casual shoes to wear? I’ve been eyeing some loafers not sure from where yet. Thanks for the great content, always look forward to new videos.
Allen Edmonds make some pretty good lace ups.
100 % correct guys. Sneakers with suits is like men wearing long socks with shorts. A lot of older men in Queensland Australia used to do that. Guys great advice again I agree with your advice 100 % Thanks.
y'all need another podcast about your entrepreneurial exploits. I know that you have knowledge about small business, and logistics and passive revenue streams that would help a ton of people. Your way of speaking plain and clear would definitely help lots of struggling folks.
Precision points to consider for sure. And i agree no sneakers with suits for sure.
Would really love to be able to buy good quality shoes however I wear size 16 eeee and anytime I start searching for shoes most go up to 14 if your lucky. I wore Red Wing work boots for years but they no longer make my size. I am a dairy farmer on my feet for 15 to 16 hours a day so good boots are important.
Yes, that’s tough. Thank you for what you do by the way!!
Ive learned ALOTfrom you guys, thank you !
Thank you for watching!
Sneakers should only be used in shorts, there is always some good hybrids to use when You are going up the fashion ladder in GOOD style. And guys, Manliness is how well you behave Yourself, always.
Sound advice for anyone with a fair amount of disposable income, but at this moment I don't know any one who does. Most people who wear out their shoes isn't because they choose to it's usually because they can't afford to buy new ones.
"Yeah, you can!"
Love it when you both respond simultaneously!
And fully agreed with investment in a good pair of shoes or boots. Being a pretty average looking male, I have noticed nice, well cared for footwear *always* draws people's attention and complements. Always.
Great tips. And happy weekend to all! Thanks! 🤓
Thank you and happy weekend to you as well!
So some people were commenting that over conditioning your shoes would be one. However this was not mentioned. In fact, you mentioned polishing "quite often" If you are using Saphir products, how often you use renovateur, medaille d'or cream and wax? Is once a week too often or should you go by the number of wears if you have a shoe rotation?
Thanks!
What, clean out my old socks??? But I'm glad you called out Kenneth Cole. I see'em on Amazon and they look so mis-shapen I don't know why they're not selling them for pennies on the dollar.
Love that intro haha, great video
Good points largely focussed on what types of shoes to choose and avoid. What about 6 tips specifically on how to look after the shoes you have bought. You mentioned conditioning creams but what about choosing which shoes to wear in different weather conditions, not to use your good shoes for driving etc. All worth thinking about to prolong the life of your shoes.
Thanks, and yes, we have a video on the care of your shoes.
I agree about 95% of the way with the no sneaker deal and the single condition for me is that I’ve found some “sneakers” that are made by quality shoe companies, stitched soles full grain uppers leather patinas etc but even then I would only use them with a suit if I’m wearing a polo and not a dress shirt with suit. I wear a suit almost every day just cuz I like to not even for work so I’d do these seldom when I’m going especially casual.
Very few people pull the sneaker suit combo off. I’ve seen maybe 3 out of hundreds, so it’s definitely a case by case thing with most cases being “ah hell naw.”
My wife said she paid attention to my shoes when we met. She said it was about details. Lucky for me that my shoes were/are always squared away. The dress blue uniform did not hurt either.
Agreed, no sneakers & suit.
Yes indeed....perfect points ✅👞🎯
Hello gentlemen! I really appreciate your channel and all the great education you provide through it! I am slowly upgrading my shoe game as my current shoes need replacing. Bought my first pair of TAFT boots last year, a pair of Thursday Captains last year and just recently bought my first pair of Allen Edmund Carlyles. My question is what about the soles of these shoes? Do you recommend using a leather conditioner on the leather soles periodically to add moisture back to them? Obviously folks are usually having new soles put on when they arrive at your shop so perhaps it has never come up. I did add some Saphir Leather Creme to the soles of my Taft boots the other day and it really soaked it up! Would love to hear your recommendation!
Hey Guys! Great video, as always. I sooo agree with loving on your shoes. I don't wear super expensive shoes but when I drag something out of the closet that hasn't been worn in a while, using some leather cleaner and running an old toothbrush around the outer sole and welt goes a long way. My clothes/jeans are much more likely to be ragged than my shoes.lol Recently saw a guy who wears suits everyday in his line of work. His shoes were "wallered" out and dusty. Wanted to give him a heads up but didn't want to hurt feelings. Also, I just can't get on board with the whole loafer and Oxfords without socks. Know it's trendy, just can't do it. Thank you for what you do!
Thank you for watching!
My new fave thing is buying quality, used, bargain high end brands and up scaling to my taste- would love to send you guys some one day 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome!
@@TrentonHeath there’s a few Really skilled cobblers I want to get to here in the Uk 🇬🇧 but you guys and Steve at Bedos are on my list 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Just saw your suits and sneakers comment! I can't agree with you more! It's an utterly ridiculous look.
