You know…you’re the one person on UA-cam I’m fully confident we’d end up close friends in person. 😂 You raise goats for milk and meat (same), garden (same), rebel can (same) and you guys approach homesteading very much like my husband and I do. You are such a source of encouragement to me, and I swear I learn a new little nugget of wisdom with each video!
Girl, you have become one of my favourite You tubers. You are so knowledgable without all the bla bla. I have only watched a couple of your vids I think and I thouroughly enjoy them! Much love from Ontario!
"Knick knack patty wack, give a dog a bone.... This old man came rolling home!" So THIS is where that song comes from!! I always wondered what the "patty wack" meant! 😄 Thanks for sharing! ~ Teresa Tavares
Hello from Canada, we are soon going to be processing a couple of Nigerian wethers. I am so glad I found your channel and that you are normalizing eating goat meet, it will be a first for me but my hubby had some years ago when he worked overseas and he raved about it. Thanks for the info on cooking it.
I love bone in goat meat! I had it a few times in Indian restaurants and our Hindi friends also have it at family gatherings. Josette and I are going to move in a few months to our new 4 acre weedy homestead. We got our brand new LEM grinder ready for action! Love your very detailed content
Thankyou, I've never cooked with goat but wanted too, not growing up with goat meat not on the menu makes it intimidating. I'll finally be buying goat from the butcher 5min away and making this recipe.
My husband and I LOVE goats meat and rabbit! We butchered our first goat on our farm last week, but we've eaten it before and prefer it to beef! We will be roasting some goat this week, and we are so excited!!
I tried goat meat during Christmas over 12 year ago. Omg, it was so delicious and rich, I honestly put myself in a food coma that year 😅. My family still talks about it to this day!😂. Once we have our property fences set, hopefully this next year, we will have meat and diary goats. I can't wait to use some of the recipes you have shared ☺️ I slow cook rabbit last week and it was perfect 👌 so much better than chicken by far.
Your cooking of the goat neck makes me want to try it!!! As a kid, we used to have turkey necks as a meal. There was a lot of meat on them turkey necks! I appreciate the taste description as I have never tried goat... yet.😃I've been wanting to get dairy goats and have never thought of ND goats for meat but hey, when they don't sell... Thank you so much for sharing a goat recipe with us!! Love it!!!❤
I have a friend from Africa and goat meat was standard for her family and I'm thankful that she shared many meals with my family. I grew up in a family where my Mom always said try it and if you don't like it on to something else but at least you tried (so glad)now my children eat many different items themselves.
It's also very good cooked on the grill. Just marinade it as kabobs overnight in whatever seasonings you like and grill it up, delish. Heather your meal is going to be so yummy, and some folks are cringing at the thought of eating goat lol. It's one of the most healthy and tasty meats you can eat.
Thanks!! I think it would be better if the flour was cooked in the butter before adding the drippings but the gravy itself is very very good as I made it too!
Lovely, Heather! I don't realize how big your kitchen is until i scan past you. You have a very busy kitchen and never apologize for needing to clean up. Years ago when i was creating content, a woman got on me about food on my stove. 😂 She was rude. At any rate, we are working toward raising our extra goats for meat IF we can keep them alive long enough. Last spring we had 16 kids born. I only sold 1! We are down to 5 which have not died from parasites. There is only so much treatment you can give goats! Insane! But your meat turned out yummy! Well...looks yummy. Thanks!
Very rarely I'll get a hateful comment but it is easy to see past it because there are a ton of awesome people who also have real working kitchens who watch the channel. Thanks so much for being one of those!
@SageandStoneHomestead Well, I thank you for putting yourself out there for us to glean information from. I usually quit following channels when I feel like they share knowledge I already have, but there is always something new with you and your family, and you keep it real. Too many channels get so well known, they forget their roots and how they got where they are. You are a humble channel, and I appreciate it.
Thank you for normalizing raising goats for meat. I am not a fan of goat meat, but I will eat it when it is served. It is very much a viable source of nutrition for people who are looking to raise a smaller animal for food.
Wonderful straight forward video on cooking goat meat, Heather! Dinner looks delicious, and I love how flexible this is with seasoning and options as well as cuts from the goat. Appreciate the ideas of what to pair it with, especially hearing maybe use something a bit acidic to help balance out the richness of the goat. YUM! 💚😋🍽😋💚
This looks so wonderful! I'm excited to try it when we're able to source some goat meat. With your gravy, I don't think it's unconventional at all to use the pan it was cooked in to create that delicious sauce! It means less total dishes used and you're certain to get all that flavor.
Thank you for the recipe video! Last year we just ground all our goat meat because we had no idea what to do with it. I'm so excited to have ideas of what cuts to save for specific dinners
That looks DELICIOUS!! I have been able to try a wide variety of less common meats but have yet to try goat. Thanks so much for sharing! Stay safe!!🙏❤🇺🇸
Wonderful video Heather! I love goat meat. I suppose I love just about all meat. Lol. I have never had the opportunity to eat rattle snake. Someday I hope to get the chance to try it. Looking forward to your next video... 💜👍💜 Aunt Beth
We are going to be doing more with goat meat on the channel for sure. Now that we have been eating it for around 3 years we feel like we have some good tips and advice to share! :) Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much!!! Just did my first goat a few days ago and needed some how to cook it videos!!! I would love a breakdown of how you divide it up. I wasn’t sure what cuts to make and most instructions are for the meat goats and it’s just not possible with the NDs to break it down that way. Are the ribs something to keep or just for bone broth? I ask you a ton of questions 🤣 but you are about the ONLY one who even talks about this topic let alone demonstrates! LOVE your channel!
We have made the ribs into broth in the past but I think this year we will see about cutting them as rib strips and see what we think! We piece out the neck, shoulders with shank, hind legs down to the hock, the saddle like shown in this video and the hip bones and ribs have been broth in the past. There is meat to be retrieved off the top of the rib cage though on either side of the spine. We will show this soon, goat processing day is this weekend
Would love to try goat meat looks so yummy 😋❤❤🕊️oh my goodness I have mushroom canisters just like that that my mom made(ceramic class )about 40 years ago❤
Love this.. ive had goat meat at many places but have never ventured to cook it myself. When purchasing goat meat from a store is there something to look out for? Like I know by smell/look when other meats are off, how can you tell with goat meat?
Most of what I've seen is in the freezer section cut into steaks. I wouldn't grab anything that looked to be soaked in blood still, but besides that it may be hard to tell!
Hi Heather, you did wrong on camera. Remember if you don't make a mess it don't count. Haha. Really that looks great. Yum. Thank you. Have a great day.
This video came just in time! We processed our first 3 goats a few days ago. P.s. I've comment twice and it keeps removing it🤔 i think because I said **tchered instead of processed.
greetings from Australia. We have been given several cuts of goat after a friend butchered some on his farm. I have a banjo roast (new to me) that I'm planning to cook today. Ideas?
YES is that the shoulder? Roasted goat shoulder is incredible and I just posted a recipe that is great with shoulder: ua-cam.com/video/ORFYKdiOxAc/v-deo.html
I couldn't find information about if it was okay cooked. As is it seemed like a choking Hazzard so it's in the bone broth bag for now! Maybe I could dry it out in the dehydrator.
@@SageandStoneHomestead LOL Yup. After that, I vowed that if I ever raised meat goats, the males had to be wethered. How are the goat steaks? My mom and I love a good rib eye steak.

The gravy you made my dad has always called water gravy. His parents grew up in the Great Depression so it was comfort food to him and to me
We curry goat 🐐 here in Jamaica 🇯🇲 but your recipe looks delicious also ❤

Looks delicious, I’ve been told goat is very similar to lamb which is my meat of choice x
You are great at making gravy. The paste is called roux (rew).
It all looks delicious!

You don't have to go low and slow. You could just throw it in your pressure cooker. For a few hours
I have yet to try that but definitely will someday! We like the caramelization the meat gets from the slower cooking though :)
