- △This video is all about:
1. How to remove salt from Spam.
2. How to marinate and cook Spam in a carbon steel pan.
By the way, I simply love SPAM if it is prepared properly!
I just added a link to those mixing bowls I used: amzn.to/3yRakBy
I purchased my Ballarini carbon steel pan from Amazon: amzn.to/3uFANiE
I found the 11-inch model worked the best because it was big enough to contain almost all the spam. There were about 4-5 pieces of spam I added after the majority was removed from the pan.
You can use other carbon steel pans for your SPAM cooking listed below if you want:

Does anyone recall needing to open the Spam can with the special "key" that came attached to the top of the can? After the slit in the "key" had the starting piece of the metal strip that wrapperd all around the can threaded through, you would start evenly, nicely turning the strip. It wrapped in one big metal curlicue thing around the "key" all around the can, back to where it began so the lid could lift off the top. Circa de 1964-ish when I was about 10 yrs old, my grandmother, spam-feeder, would let me very, very, very CAREFULLY (because it was a thin SHARP metal edge I was dealing with - hugh potential for getting some nasty finger decapitations if not very, very, very careful!) unwind the metal seal thingy off of the "key", throw it away, and keep the "key" - MY VERY OWN "key" to MY house, my car, my garage or whatever I fantasized it for at the moment! I did it every time I could and would have hundreds had I saved them all. I saved none but I sure have hundreds of special memories of the tons of fun I had from getting to do that! Now opening the can is easier and more efficient but lacks so much adventure!
Yes I most certainly do remember that key thingy as you say
I'm in my sixties, and I remember that key well. I haven't bought a can of Spam for many years, but I guess now it won't be as much fun to open. The threat of an arterial spurt made life so much more interesting.
Indeed, I remember the days of the 'key'! Sometimes the strip would *break* just after starting and my dad would find some pliers in our kitchen junk drawer (doesn't everyone have a junk drawer?) and he would work the end free and reattach the key and try again.
We used to buy oval cans of Herrings in tomato sauce (family of 7)in the early 50`s when we were richer than we are now.............cheeers.
I remember cutting myself many, many times. It was as sharp as a razor. As children we weren't allowed to open the cans ourselves. We used it in peas and carrot salad, which was a recipe we got off the can in the 60's. It was called "Spam ham salad."! We loved saying it's name! Does anyone else remember that recipe??
I am 66 years old. I have eaten spam my whole life. I never knew how to remove the excess salt. Thanks for your video. I look forward to trying it.
Chuck, your life will be changed forever.
I'm almost 69 and I stopped eating it when I was a kid because it was so salty. I'm going to try it again after seeing this video.
This is "SPAM" Porn and @ 64, I say Go R7 eagle!
Just slice it and fry it in a little oil, that's
how I did it if I ate it with eggs for breakfast when I was a very young adult,
my parents never boiled it either and to
be honest it never crossed my mind and
to take all of the salt out I don't think I'd
want it that bland.
I would use a larger pot with more water. I boil hot dogs and sliced Bologna too. I put three little slices around the sliced Bologna so it doesn’t turn into a Bologna bowl.
This video is 2 yrs old as I watch it and I am SO mad at myself that I haven't discovered this man sooner! His control of the video.. A+! His humor, angles, instructions, patience, everything...all of it contributes to this "down home" feel of actually being in the kitchen with him. Well done, sir. I am so glad I found your vids.
Really great teacher!
It was so funny as he's trying to not "make a mess, cuz he'll be sleeping on the couch" He really didn't make a mess but I think he'd kinda be ok if he did :P
Great video. My husband and I love spam, but the salt was getting to be to strong for us. Farmers at one time and we love❤ butter. Thanks for the video. Guess what I'm making tomorrow?
I hope he is not using salted butter 😂
Yes , I do remember that can and key😀
My mouth is watering. We ate spam 60 years ago in the Army and I said I’d never eat it again but I started to miss it a few years later and I’m going into town for supplies this Saturday so I’ll have this on Sunday after Church. I can’t wait thank you for the lessons.
my dad was a bit like that, 40 years after his war (WW1) mum had to keep a tin of bully beef and baked beans in the house as he just had to have it occasionally with a hard biscuit. I wasn't in long enough....
Just a thought, put the cut Spam in the strainer and put that into the boiling water. Then pull it out and run under the cold water. Save a few steps and some burned fingers.
thinking the same as the video went on i do the same with noodles in my dorm room on campus no mess and quicker

I literally just made this with the Hickory Smoked flavored Spam for my mother. I boiled it for about 15 minutes. I then pan fried it in butter, maple syrup, and a little nutmeg. Thank you for the de-salting tip.
Thanks for the recipe

Great job. You should try it with Light Brown Sugar, Yellow mustard and onions. Carmalize the onion and spam with the ingredients. It's wonderful. Substitute ham if you want.
@@RodneyGross-pv5phboy that sounds delicious
Hope you used unsalted butter or else why get rid of the sodium in spam?
This is brilliant. I have avoided SPAM my entire adult life as being fed it too much as a child. I am dying to try this with some eggs. I grew up in Hawaii and SPAM is a staple. Thank you for this video.

How could anyone leave nasty remarks after watching your videos? I was giggling through the whole thing! A nice change from the videos that seem like they're scripted and, well, boring at times. Not ALL of them are bad. But your approach is so...approachable! A real guy cooking for us real people.
I love Spam, but it is really salty. I never knew there was a desalination (ha ha) method. I can only imagine how yummy your recipe is! I'm going to try it out the next time I go shopping for Spam. Thank you for your lovely and fun videos. I'll be sure to check in for more recipes on your blog!
I thought it was endearing watching how much HE enjoyed doing this! Unfortunately, it's the internet and people are total, pathetic jerks to anyone for no reason, they don't care. Sad world.
Love this guy's video!! I do a lot of cooking myself, and I get a kick out of your comments as you work your way through your cooking process. Can't wait to try your recipe, as I am a fan of Spam 👍
Because it's a evil world we live in. And so people's pleasure is pure misery.
I personally do not think you used very much butter.i only saw a dab. You didn't use a pan full
Spam...the original MRE. As a single dad, I taught my son at 5 years old it would save his life one day...like his great grandfather in WW2 who survived on an island with it for 3 months after he was shot down. Lasts 30 years or more in the can. But now...fry it, put it on toast with a lilttle pepper and butter and mayo and some fresh onion.....great stuff. With this economy, we're gonna have to go thru it again.
The spam I ate only lasted 25 years in my body, though.
So one can lasted 3 month? Or he had 3 month's supply on him?
Or was he flying a plane with a supply of spam in it?
@RuDuffEnough WellRu Never saw ligaments and veins in canned corned beef... Guess I won't be buying Libbey's
@RuDuffEnough WellRu sounds like bullshit to me. Having ate much of that.
@@WalterGreenIII nah mate. He's squeemish or full of shit.
You were using the absolutely correct amount of butter. And you're right about margarine.
I have got to try this. Just learning how to de-salt the spam is worth it. If it can take the place of bacon as expensive as it is now makes it worth it too. I am a bacon lover. You keep doing what you are doing. You are all right with me.
I just tried this Special Spam Recipe. It was literally delicious. Even my wife who doesn't usually care for "processed foods" thought it was delicious as well. This is a keeper recipe!! Thanks for posting it.
Slice and boil Spam for 5 minutes or until slices float.
Let stand in hot water 5 more minutes.
Remove slices to strainer, rinse well.
Set slices on paper towels to dry.
Stack slices for slicing. Cut into squares
Sauce: prepared teriyaki sauce, Brown sugar, mix well
Melt butter in pan
Fry desalted spam in butter until caramelized on both sides.
Add sauce, labor of love
Let spam caramelize to bring out flavor.
Do not over crowd pan.
Poor pan drippings over spam.
To clean pan, add water while hot to loosen caramelized sugar before going to sink.
This looks great. Nice job.
Thank you.
Thanks for the recipe. You can serve this spam with rice, noodles or eggs, or make a spam sandwich.
Thank you! 🎊🎉
Try ham....it's much nicer
@@shqa574 Or use it to advertise crap on the internet and piss people off .... LOL
I love spam in Mac & cheese. I have always boiled my spam in the noodles. And I didn't use salt in the noodles as the directions suggested, the salt from the spam seasoned the noodles. And draining the noodles, the bulk of the salt goes down the sink. That and some steamed broccoli, carrots and calliflower makes a meal.
yes I remember the key to open up the spam can. Years years ago. We used to cook spam in a cast iron can a lot back in the day especially in the morning with eggs. Thanks for teaching me how to remove the salt from spam. U learn something new every day. Spam does have a lot of salt in it. So this is good to know. Food for thought as they use to say. Using butter to fry it is better than oil. Oil is mostly not good for you in general. We don't fry much in our house because it's not good for u. Use butter when u can people. Good Job on the spam trip. ❤🎉😮😊
This is nice to see. I haven't thought of boiling out the salt. I of course, have not had Spam in years. I read the comments on the can key for opening. I didn't know it changed. Which isn't surprising though. Everything changes
Definitely no complaints from me. I am a Spam junkie. Growing up, we ate lots of it, and I still love it to this day.
I had a great vacation in Hawaii, since it appears to be a staple there.
I've avoided spam for years because it was disgustingly salty to me. Just tried this method, and I'll confirm that it makes a huge difference. I'm a spam fan now.
Same here, but I am going to stick up today. Ty for your video.
Yes like you I've avoided eating spam because if its salty taste and now I'll try this method. thanks for teaching me.

I can't believe I watched a half hour long Spam cooking video from beginning to end and I really liked it and enjoyed myself. I like to try this myself but I am thinking about using honey instead of the sugar. Thank you 🙂!
I can't believe I watched the whole thing either.
Nothing to be proud of
Maple syrup or pancake syrup is also tasty 😋
Next time I do it, I will use Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce instead of the sugar free so it should carmelize nicely.
LOL....I was thinking the Same things!!! A Spam cooking video??? Really????🤣 At 11:30 pm to boot!!!🙄😳
I don’t remember when I enjoyed a cooking video so much! Made me feel like I was sitting at his kitchen table watching him cook!
I remember the key. Children were warned not to take the key until the can was opened. That's some good looking spam.
This makes perfect sense. The enormous amount of salt is the reason I don't usually buy spam. Great tip. Thanks.
I buy the lower salt spam. Keep it simple.
I like the luncheon meat slicer though.
Spam has a lower sodium version Spam but sometimes it is hard to find in the stores. The method shown in this video looks fairly easy to remove excess sodium.
You can also remove some, not all, of the Nitrates along with the salt if you boil the Spam twice with clean water on each boil.

Since you hate getting burned, I have an idea. Bring a tea-kettle full of water to a boil. Slice the Spam and lay it in a saucepan. Gently pour the boiling water over the Spam. No splashing, no burns. Thanks for showing me how to remove the salt from Spam.
Thanks for your tip and the comment
Or use a bigger pan.
Or,,,use the tongs to put the spam IN too......
Or......stop being such a Sally about it for crying out loud.
The water will cool quickly, the low boil assures that as much salt as possible is removed.
PURE AWESOMENESS! Not so much the SPAM, Just the narration.
I remember opening Spam with the key.I am 80 years old and still love it. I live in Quebec!Canada.
Just an observation. We do most of our grocery shopping at Wakmart. A can of spam sells for $3.38 . A few months ago they were completely out of Spam so I purchased a can of Great Value luncheon meat for $2,28 . To my surprise , I could not tell any difference between the 2 products except that the Walmart brand seems slightly less salty . They look identical in side by side comparison . Since then I have been buying Great Value Lite Luncheon meat which is a blend of pork and chicken with less sodium . It taste and looks exactly like Spam as well. The Spam and the GV luncheon meat list the exact same ingredients. It's a no brainer at $1.10 less per can. One more thing , Dollar General sells Clover Valley Luncheon meat that is exactly the same as well for cheap. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised if you try these.
I love Spam but stayed away from GV brand because I didn't think it'd be any good, but I'll give it a try now!
I think the great value taste better.
Personally I like Treet Meat better than SPAM or the GVLL. I am however the kind of person that would shoot myself before removing the salt. In my particular area Treet Meat is the cheapest of the cheap. I love it though, particularly with Glory brand canned collard greens. Shit ton of salt though, maybe even enough to outright kill a person with COPD.
There is also Turkey Spam which has less sodium than the lower sodium Spam. It has a turkey flavor that is different from the regular, but tasty in its own way.
Are the listed ingredients the same?
That's exactly the way that I get the salt out of spam too. I live in Hawaii and we locals love our teriyaki
spam musubi. If you don't do this process before adding in the teriyaki sauce, you get salt overload.
Of course we have regular spam musubi.
In which case you don't really need to take the salt out. The rice balances out the saltiness.
Try taking the spam after the boiling process and make a egg and spam sandwich. Just an over easy egg and a slice of spam with a dab of mayo on buttered toast. It's one of my favorite comfort foods.
Aloha from Hawaii

I don’t eat Spam but, this guy’s video was so well done that I continued watching. I love a good cooking video, no matter the dish. You rock, mister! Good job and a really beautiful dish, I must say.
I boil extra thick bacon like this to leach the salt out of it then transfer it to an air fryer and I absolutely love my bacon this way. It's so much less salty and tastes a lot like uncured bacon (also delicious but cured keeps a bit longer). I've also done it with pork belly and even cured ham. It doesn't work as well with cured ham, but every little bit helps. I'm not a big fan of saltiness (and I'm getting older, so it's healthier).
I introduced my daughter to spam this past year. She loves it. I usually just fry the slices in a skillet, with no oil, until the outside is crispy brown. Two slices make a perfect sandwich.
That makes me hungry. Thank you for taking time to write your comments Tony.

I stumbled on to your video a while ago and I have been cooking my spam sort of your way ever since, I say sort of because I brown my spam first then add the sauce and cook it a little more, I hadn't eaten Spam in ages but with the cost of bacon getting out of sight I thought I'd try it and I've been doing it your way ever since, Thank you for taking the time to show us how you cook it, I'll never go back!

A little correction. Those scums floating are actually fat, and the salt that came out from the lucheon meat are mixed with the water.
Luncheon meat are about 70-30% meat /fat combination and humongous amout of salt.
Water with high salinity are actually heavier than water w/low in salt.

My thoughts as well concerning the boiling residue: it’s fat not salt that’s seen and the salt is disobedience in the water, so it’s good he gives it a good rinse. Didn’t point that out in my reply before but glad you have. Because the rinsing after boiling is needed.
Yes I remember using the key. My dad ate so much spam in world War 2 that he really didn't like eating it. I guess they fed the military spam because it kept so long. My son likes it. Thanks for the recipe gonna try it.
Nice video. I opened a can of SPAM last week (6.1.23), that had a 2014 'use before' date...9 years too old. It was nice and pink and tasted fine due to plenty of salt. I use a cold water method of soaking and most salt is gone in a couple of hours after several rinses. Goes great with scrambled eggs. So, SPAM lasts many years after the suggested use date, probably 20 years.
We don't care for Spam but I ordered 10 cans from Amazon last month because it does last so long in case of the emergency that we have been warned about.
If something is vacuum sealed why should its self-life ever expire? We all know the answer to that, to purchase more. Ha
The only expiration date I really pay attention to is the date on the milk. !!

I don't have a steel pan I hope a well seasoned cast iron pan will work just as well. I grew up eating spam, hogshead cheese, vienna sausage, potted meat, and other cheap canned meats. We never complained we had no idea there were other choices. We were poor and didn't even know it.
Bless you my dear.
You did good i love experimenting to nice job
Yep. We thought chicken gizzards were a treat.
I know what you mean,we were poor as well, but lots of love.I bought 2 cans of the bacon spam when I got groceries on Monday.I plan on getting more after watching his program. The way our country is going,we will need some standbys....God bless you and yours.
Happy New Year...
Married couples that are poor as hell are not doing children and favors by bringing them into a family of poverty......
I used to eat spam a lot but due to age and kidney problems ( cut on salt) I will give this a try..loved the video
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Very good, my mouth watered all the way, my wife never watched, so I'll surprise her with a batch when she's not looking. I'm 78 years young and you made it fun enough for me to try it. God Bless you and thank you.
Don't blame me if your wife makes you sleep in the garage!
I don't know but I heard mouth watering can be red sign of rabies
Me, & my high blood pressure can not thank you enough for this valuable information. I've been stocking up on Spam for emergencies. Sharing everywhere. ❤️
You are soooo welcome
Just a friendly hello... Salt won't actually mess up your blood pressure (despite what the doc says). That myth is still going around. My doc told me this too, but it's bull. Salt is an essential nutrient and good for ya. If you eat too much, your body will get rid of it without concern (but usually your own taste buds will stop you from eating too much)... and it's nearly impossible to "eat too much". There is actually no legit science that proves salt does anything to your heart but this has been parroted so long that people (including many doctors) still believe and keep repeating it. Sugar, on the other hand, is really the culprit; it's WAY more detrimental to heart health. Recommend checking out the book The Salt Fix. I stopped limiting salt a couple of years ago and enjoy it in my food now. My blood pressure is now totally normal too! No heart issues. We've been lied to about this wonderful little mineral made by God.
If you do have high blood pressure then you do realise that he hasn't taken the salt out of Spam he has actually added more salt and a lot more of sugar to mask the salt in Spam? Teriyaki sauce is basically soy sauce mixed with sugar and Sake and that's not mentioning the other crap they put into pre-made store bought Teriyaki sauce. Don't follow this recipe if you care about your health?
@@gavreynolds2689 Thank you! I wouldn't bbq it or put sauce with it. I would fry it plain.
I was raised on SPAM..... Born1952../, My Father cooked Spam after church on Sunday morning.... There isn't any thing you can tell me about SPAM..! I LEARNED to live on Spam.... I'm 70years old now..... and I still eat SPAM..! LOVE IT..!
This looks great!
I also really liked the part about boiling off the salt like a country ham!
I would use a cast iron grill pan to get good grill marks. I would sauté green onions and pineapple chunks before the spam, for an additional flavor layer. Then finish it with orange zest.
Thank you for your slicer tip and the salt remover tip.
Great ideas, Thanks Wesley
Good idea
I like the way you think. My mouth is drooling and I am fixing that "Hawaiian pizza" sandwich before I get ready for bed(it's 9:30pm). Thanks!
You can play with your grill pan and make "grill marks" all day, and it still won't change the flavor. Complete waste of time!
Yummy
Thank you for this! I grew up on Spam but I never knew you could remove the salt which is great for people with high blood pressure. Love the Teriyaki sauce ❤️
It is a winner! Thank you for your comment.
Perfect instructions, I have a bunch of Spam for SHTF emergency but avoid it because of the salt. Thank you for your time this will be very helpful.
Positive comment:
I know you are single because you didn't have your spouse telling you each and every step, OR turn the heat down, OR clean up your mess and the list goes on!
So... now you know MY relationship in the kitchen! LOL
Enjoyed your video very much.
The idea of removing the excess salt is a good idea and I had no idea that spam could be cooked this way. My mother ground it up and added relish and mayonnaise for sandwiches and it was actually pretty good. Thanks.
And grated cheese.
There are many ways to eat it.
You! Are my favorite drink.
Wow never had spam like that. Sounds good. 👽
Ever wonder why there is so much salt? They're trying to keep it from rotting before you open the can, because it is rotten and tastes like dead three day old cat.
I initially watched this to learn how to desalinate the spam… that recipe with teriyaki sauce and brown sugar sounds awesome! Need to try it!
You can make it without brown sugar if you want. I happen to like it. There are no fast and firm rules.
Same, I had spam growing up, and with how things are going have started to buy it now as an adult, and I remembered how salty it was then, and was looking for a way to get rid of the saltiness. Only to find this...better than bacon? That's a bold claim, I shall try your tery and brown sugar sauce, (I love both) and see how it turns out. 😉
Thank you for sharing your recipe. It looks delicious! I’m new to your channel and I look forward to watch your next video. Thanks again.
Except for a 5 minute video taking 27 minutes, this is very useful. I've been wondering for years how to reduce the salt in Spam. There's no way I could eat only 2 pieces with my breakfast. I like frying the slices til they're crispy and making sandwiches with 4 slices, 2 fried eggs, sweet relish and mayo. Sometimes a little cheese.
Here is a man that takes his spam seriously, thank you for the information.
I used to live in Japan for a few years and it always amazed me that all my Japanese friends and my girlfriend had no interest in a great steak, only SPAM. When I went to the market on base for groceries that was what they wanted for dinner. I got married there and even when we moved to the US, that's what my wife liked to cook. I love it and BJ's sells it in 6 packs!
SPAM is considered a welcome house warming or Christmas gift there.
Interesting story. Thanks
Have you ever tried the different flavors. The SPAM factory and museum is in Austin, Mn. and one in Fremont, Neb. The one in Austin is about 45 mins. from me and I went with friends to take a tour. It’s really neat. I bought several different ones to try. I liked the black pepper one the best. Really good. If your ever up that way, you should stop and take the tour.
I like the black pepper flavored spam. TY for the video.
When I visited Japan I could not get over all the different “sandwiches” made with spam. I’ve been using spam ever since. I had forgotten how much I loved spam when I was younger.
I am new to your channel and I love your attitude. Just ignore the haters 😜 thank you for the tips on getting the salt out of the spam I love the video
I like you because you are authentic and you get burned like normal people in the kitchen lol
Pro tip for Great Value brand products: They are the same as "name brand products" made in the same factory only different packaging. I worked in a factory that produced both Big Chief (popular name brand in Michigan) and Great Value sugar. Wal-mart makes deals with producers so the company doesn't have to do it themselves which saves Wal-mart and their customers money.
I absolutely love this guy and this video. Not only have you taken something I've eaten for years and shown me a more delicious way to eat it and I can't wait to cook this, I gave you the fastest thumbs up because of your margarine comment. 😂 I love butter too!!!! Thank you
Best advice he gave during the video... "don't mess up the kitchen you'll sleepin in the garage"
I just tried this last night, and it works like a champ! I made my slices about the same as in the vid and used Soy Sauce and some Hoisin Sauce. Got to admit it was delicious. Besides one slice each for each dog of my three doggies, I ate the rest! 🤣
Great Video! I’m 70 & haven’t had spam since I was a kid. Now that I have to watch my BP levels, getting rid of the salt will definitely help. Thanks sooo much!!❤️
salt is not your enemy, unless you are one of those rare people who are salt sensitive. Salt is essential and not eating enough can be detrimental to your health!
Thanks Jozee.
@@cherrydowns7745 I'm one of those . Can add ten lbs overnite . Have known since a teenager . Cause and effect . Don't do soda or salty snacks and can taste it in a lot of pizza . I use iodized salt to cook with so I don't get goiter .
@@cherrydowns7745 salt makes my heart pound
@@cherrydowns7745 Completely agree. There is absolutely no scientific evidence that sodium raises BP, recent meta studies confirm that fact. Very few people are salt sensitive and those people need to avoid salt where possible.
My grandmother raised me and cooked spam exactly as you did in this video, except she added one more step: after the spam has been taken out of the pan, instead of pouring off the grease, she added 1/2 can of WELL DRAINED fruit cocktail to the grease. Stir it over hot burner until it starts to get crispy. Then pour over spam. GREAT!!!!! Gives the meat a fruity taste.
Holy Shit I gotta try this
Wow! fruit cocktail on the side? I'd love to try this one, too!😉😋
My Mom cooked Spam with pineapple green pepper and maple syrup at camp.
Now that sounds interesting.
Pineapple orange juice when you have the best HoneyBaked Ham thank you
I can't wait to try this! I really enjoyed watching. Thank you!
Looks Delicious!
My Uncle Loves Spam.
I got him watching your video now👍
Being good with ingredients like Spam are quintessential skills in my eyes. Such a basic yet staple product
Thanks for your reply
Thanks for the video. I am 72 and have never eaten SPAM. Just bought my first can last week. (Bucket list lol) So your video is timely AND obviously “a love of labor”!
Just wait till my next Spam video.
Oh, you definitely need to fry it then. It is the tastiest way to eat it. Sliced thin though (thinner than him, is how I prefer it.) Not a fan of the texture of it out of the can, so if sliced thin and fried, it changes the texture enough that it is quite nice actually. If it's too thick, it retains some of that texture. Frying SPAM, is like the difference between plain balony and fried, if you've ever tried that? It's like a night and day difference, right?! Same here, it's very different and better when fried.
Spam is just fine, however, I prefer bacon.
@@thomasayer7511 Well yeah, but in a shtf situation or disaster, where are you going to get bacon? Lol. And, we've already seen supply issues and shortages of many things in the last couple of years and it's getting worse.
We're pretty lucky Pork has been one of the most readily available meats throughout the pandemic and this. Beef had shortages and was and is getting more expensive constantly and even chicken where I lived was in short supply, temporarily and saw massive price increases. Yet I still find pork sales/specials regularly and in more supply than beef or chicken and not once has it been in short supply near me (and we have no pig farms right locally, so....).
Matter of fact, sometimes we were swimming in Pork really and I'm still getting deals on it. If you can call them deals, these days, lol. Bacon prices sure shot up, but other forms of pork are still very reasonable like chops, peameal bacon, lions, hams etc. And now and then I still get bacon specials. But I also ain't fussy about buying fattier cheaper bacon either, fat is flavour and good for you. Even the higher end stuff goes on sale pretty regularly too though. But sale price now, is last year's regular price.
WOW! Fantastic instructional video. My mouth is watering from watching this. I appreciated the salt removal technique. Enjoyed hearing you and the attention to details was excellent. Very clear instructions and helpful. Absolutely superb! Thank you for sharing.
Great idea ! Btw I luv butter too!!!! Thank you! 1st time I got to hear a live voice from a live cook! It was very gratifying & humaning. Thx! Keep up the super great work!🥳😁🥳😁🥳😁
Great idea of boiling the spam in water to remove the salt. Never dawned on me to try that. Thanks for the tip.😊
As a kid, fried spam sandwiches were a treat!!! Of course, we had it with homemade bread and my mom would dress them with fresh tomatoes and cukes from the garden and a little bit of mayo & mustard. I am going to make this lower-salt version and I can't wait to try it! Thank you.
I still like fried spam. Sandwiches and otherwise.
Spam, white bread and mustard.
Spam and eggs.
Spam and beans and potatoes.
Etc. Etc. Etc.
@@marknorwood7521my aunt treated us to fried Spam and mustard. Later on she graduated us to Gulden’s spicy brown mustard. Some of my favorite childhood memories.
Same here! 👍🏻👍🏻
That looks so good!!! Thanks for sharing this!!!
I for one , love the sound of the sound of the Cicadas in the back ground . So thank you for not editing them out and also thanks for the technique I will be using from now on .
I like you. You seem like an honest guy. My grandpa used to do this!
He would ask every breakfast place he'd take me to if they had spam, didn't matter how nice the place was.. Half the time they looked at him like he was crazy, and he'd always manage to convince them that they have spam somewhere in the back. And sure enough, they ALWAYS had a can of spam laying around.
He was in the navy, so they apparently ate a lot of spam. He was desperate to have my dad and my grandma and myself, to like it.
But I hadn't liked spam very much until I found the low sodium spam.
When I eat Low Sodium Spam I also remove the salt. Thanks for your comment.
The only difference between your spam and mine is I brown the meat a little more in the butter. That is because whenever you use any type of sweet sauce or sugar in a frying pan it turns into a glaze (like on glazed donuts) and you are no longer browning the meat but cooking the "glaze" instead giving the meat a still-in-can texture. Try leaving the meat to brown a little more to get a slightly crispy outside on the spam (like crispy bacon) before putting on the "glaze" and you will notice the difference in both texture and taste.
l.p.
exactly.
@Pappy 1775
Well this is going in my how to reduce the salt recipe notes! I didn't know that, thank you.
The end result looks amazing!
I’ve never thought about boiling out the salt. I love teriyaki sauce. I’m thinking I could cut it just the right size for Hawaiian rolls and cook up some glazed onions and use smoked Gouda cheese. YUM!
I didn't think it was possible, but you've made me crave Spam. Your cooking video style is perfect. Like you, every kitchen experience either results in a burn or some blood. I hate those perfect cooking videos where everything goes exactly as planned. That's not how life goes, or at least not my life. So many thanks for making Spam great again.
Very helpful love it!
He did a great job with this video.
I'll be back
you mean you now crave STUFF POSING AS MEAT LOL
I think, for me at least, one of the epic videos on food that I have ever watched. Being a UK Airforce Brat, I do remember eating a LOT of Spam as I was between maybe 2 and 10ish, my Dad was Aircrew and finances improved over time, we started off living in a tiny caravan next to the base, and later moved to a wing of a grand house belonging to one Sir Esmond Ovey GCMG MVO (23 July 1879 - 30 May 1963) who was a British diplomat who was ambassador to the Soviet Union, Belgium and Argentina. God Knows how we got that housing option, but Dad was paid as a caretaker cash in hand when he was not flying...that house was the free run for me and my Brother when Sir Edmund was away. Spam became History to me then, and I have never looked at it since, until now.
Thank you for this Video, I have tried this recipe, and several others....your de-salting transforms SPAM into a delight, and Yes, Better than Bacon
Thank you for your comment
Awesome job Charlie the Spam looks delicious. Also, thank for showing your viewers how to take the salt out of Spam.
