That looks like so much fun! We are supposed to get 24 inches of snow the next couple of days and I think I have everything I need at home to put one of these together. Might be a good snow day project while stuck at home.
Jeez. That's a lotta snow. You'll definitely need something to keep you busy. I gotta say... I'm impressed with this little banjo. It's really great. Thanks for watching.
@@musicalmiscellany Great to hear about the safe arrival and I bet you do have some ideas, I like your creativity. Can't wait to see what you do. Btw - look out for an email very shortly about a firmware update. It'll improve the midi device connectivity if you have any trouble at all with that.
One of my favorite builds is a "Backscratcher Diddly-Bo". A cigar box with a Dollar Store bamboo backscratcher screwed to it and a couple of sound holes drilled into it. I tied the string to each end of the backscratcher and used two bottle caps(Nut and Bridge) to bring the string to tension. No real way to tune it, but it is a blast to noodle on. Single string and a slide sounds really cool. Box was free, Bottle caps were recycled. A dollar for the backscratcher and less than a dollar for the string. Of course, the backscratcher is now $1.25, so I can never build one that cheap again. LOL!!
Yeah. Those impromptu builds are sometimes the best. That's what I love about this hobby. Sometimes the weirdest of combinations sounds like a million bucks when it's less than $10. LOL.
Thanks for checking it out. I honestly wasn't expecting much. I just wanted to make an easy DIY instrument for the sake of a tutorial but... this thing is fantastic.
Sounds great! What strings did you use? Phosphor bronze, Nickel? What gauges? Plain or wound? And what is the scale length. Inquiring minds want to know!
It's a 23" scale. I used the CBGitty acoustic 3-string pack. They're phosphor bronze and .044, .034, .026 I think. www.cbgitty.com/guitar-instrument-parts/cigar-box-guitar-parts/acoustic-medium-blues-blaster-3-string-cigar-box-guitar-strings-low-open-g-gdg/ The crazy thing about this git is I wasn't excited about it at all. It's super basic & I was just building it for the vid... but it turns out I really like it.
@@musicalmiscellany I have a question. Can I convert a ceremonial Indigenous hand drum into a Banjo ? I have one, and considering using it to make a Banjo. Will it work ? Can you make one on your channel ? I think if it does, it would have a great sound.
@@straightupandforward7494 You might want to check out this series I did. This banjo was a kit but it is essentially a frame drum. I imagine what you're trying to do is very similar (and yes it sounds good). ua-cam.com/play/PLwIixlr7C6KVG1LV-W4W8KxblRgMHnzG5.html
wow that is truly so cool. I think really this would be the instrument I attempt in the future~~ Sounded great plugged in too~! and what is that slide? it doesn't look like any slide I've ever seen>
To tell you the truth. I wasn't excited about it. I just wanted to be able to create the video to help others... but it turns out this thing is fantastic. Who knew? BTW, that is a ceramic CBG slide (also called a stubby slide). It's not as wide as a traditional guitar slide because it's designed for 3-strings instead of 6.

Funny that I found the Evolution Stoneware channel weeks ago. But just found yours yesterday whilst looking at diddley bows & CBG vids. Now I'm a subscriber to both. And thanks for this follow up vid that I missed the 1st go round.
Thanks for checking it out. Have you seen this video: ua-cam.com/video/3Doubr18yJQ/v-deo.html I go through the entire process start to finish. To do it with 4 strings you'd still follow the same process but use 4 tuners and drill 4 holes. Other than that, it's exactly the same.

Hi, your cookie tin banjo is really awesome! As for myself, I recently made a DIY one-string guitar also using a cookie tin box together with a broom stick.
I made one for a school instrument project and it was somehow everybodys favourite so thank you very much!
I am surprised by how much I like it. Thanks for sharing a similar experience.

Oh by the way... the e-ther just arrived. Watch for a video coming in the next couple weeks. I've got some ideas. 😁

@musicalmiscellany Thank you. I will. Greetings from Poland.
Me and my friend are deeply i intrigued and want to make these. How would we go about making them 4 string?

Taking the flex out of the back plate is doing a lot, acoustically speaking.
Thanks for checking out the video.
Question, would you run into any issues using an electric delta 3 pole pickup from CBGitty?
Feedback from the metal tin?
Thanks fir checking it out. You never really know until you try but I wouldn’t think you’d have any problems.

Could I add a fourth string?

Maybe raise the strings. They sound like they are hitting something,
I think you're hearing the slide hitting the strings, not the strings hitting the fretboard. Thanks for checking it out.
Far freaking out
Life is slowing down around here so I will soon get back to making and building.
Be well
