It's great that we were able to experience this time! I am now 76 years old and waiting to die. I have cancer that is no longer treatable. The music of the 60s/70s helps me a lot in my last days or weeks. There will never be such a great time again!!😪
Bless you & I understand just how you feel about this music. I find it great therapy as I just get lost in my enjoyment of the music & shutout the world & all its problems. I'm 78 now. Reading lots of comments from fellow boomers.
I'm a musician and in the last band I played in our drummer Jack absolutely loved this song and Procol Harum were his favorite band, one day unexpectedly Jack died of a heart attack and at his funeral all they played was Procul Harum music and they played this song more then any other song, after the funeral I returned to my book store that I owned and sat alone with no one in the store and played Whiter Shade Of Pale for him on my acoustic guitar,I couldn't believe he was gone so it was my way of saying goodbye to him. Bob.
I am 22 year old, listning this song since i was 16. Still the first song on my playlist. After listening this song my face always turns whiter shade of pale. Try turning off all the lights in room and listen it on low volume just before sleep, You will get the best sleep ever.
No, one of the greatest Leslie Speaker songs ever done! Hammond HATED that speaker! But Donald Leslie pressed on. Now BOTH companies are owned by Suzuki. (I need to get some Suzuki stock!) steve
Yes,that Hammond 102 model organ has such a unique and beautifully haunting sound. It just gives me chills. And Matthew. Fisher plays it superbly in this all time classic. Rest in peace. Gary. You were great!
All these decades and he's still got it. There's 80's artist's voices haven't aged anything like this good. I seriously don't know any other that still sounds pretty much exactly the same after 30+ years, leave alone near 50 years!!! *Stunning.*
This song was issued in may 1977; I once dance it with my young GF, and the next day, in july, she dies brutally in a car crash... That's why, 51 years after, I cry when I listen it! RIP Michelle . . . I still love you...
So excellent . One can tell that even though they have to play this song every other night that they really love the song . There are so many wonderful nuances

about as close to perfect as a song can get Younger generations laugh I was bored when i was young . Being out on the street and most things did not matter and I did what i had to do . Such a touching song
God bless you,Gary Brooker!
Grande, immenso, indimenticabile Gary Brooker.
this is a super alternative to the original first verse and still a magic haunting song -the Hammond is awesome too, the crescendos, the beat changes, the song will be with us forever
Nothing like these classic songs now,the young generation ate missing so much ,new songs include swear words and halfe speaking rather than singing also background music is machines.
Second verse: She said, I'm home on shore leave, Though in truth we were at sea So I took her by the looking glass And forced her to agree Saying, you must be the mermaid Who took Neptune for a ride. But she smiled at me so sadly That my anger straightway died

My friend, don't feel lonely, we will all taste death.

True, but I believe the original was recorded on a Lowery organ.
I'll listen to it twice sometimes to hear that old Hammond & Leslie tone cab.And that's a huge version !

My daughter walked into church for her wedding to AWSOP, expertly played by a superb organist here. They did it as a surprise for me.
Excellent choice.
wife had the organist play it while we signed the register. That was in 1996.

Awesome, just totally f**king awesome! Gary Brooker and Procol Harum play their flagship song like no other could ever hope to do!
Just can't get enough of it
In my opinion this is the ultimate live version
You are correct 🐱
Yes, it's much more soulful than those live orchestrated versions.
The one from Holland with a full orchestra is pretty sporty
Nesmrtelná skladba, ten zvuk Hammondů je boží 👏👏👏👏👏
My first concert M.S.G. many years ago! But still remember it fondly!!

Never tired of playing this song on a jukebox way back when i was in jr. hs 1969 i'm 63 now from nueva ecija, phillippines.
I was doing the same thing at a beach club in N.Y. in 69!

Second verse:
She said, I'm home on shore leave,
Though in truth we were at sea
So I took her by the looking glass
And forced her to agree
Saying, you must be the mermaid
Who took Neptune for a ride.
But she smiled at me so sadly
That my anger straightway died
I was in junior high l when this song was being played by the radio stations and though I on!y knew a little bit of english always and still love it
Though it truly may be impossible ,
needs to be sat down and absorbed by the listener
no interruptions , no bullshit
I need so Love Song ❤❤❤
