Because affording that would mean going hungry. We need to fix the broken systems. Close the borders and streamline the vetted process for legal immigration from FRIENDLY countries. Make it so that a country is only considered friendly after 20 years of good conduct with the United States. Part of that being human rights.
Legal immigration from "friendly" countries will _never_ happen because of the 1965 Hart-Celler Immigration Act. This unjust law is still on the books today and I cannot understand why. It shouldn't have been enacted in the first place.
