Thank you for this! You're the only video on UA-cam that shows this Cable Matters adaptor with very little lag and high picture quality. Will be using this video editing as a dual monitor setup with the same macbook pro late 2011 you have. Were you able to test the Diamond adaptor? Is there a better adaptor than the Cable Matters since your review? Any update since you tested this adaptor or still working well for you? Otherwise I will go with this one. Thank you again!
I got a 13" MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) and I bought a to DVI adapter and it was working but suddenly the one with USB stopped working. I have download the new drives and nothing changed. Any idea? Thanks in advance!
Nicolas Hyams Glad you enjoyed the video. The two cables are: 1- a mini displayport cable.. For this port any cable should do the trick. 2- cable matters USB 3.0. The links are posted in the video description field. Good luck!
I have 2011 Macbook Pro 2.4ghz Dual Core 16gb Ram - I bought the Cable Matters plug for my Macbook based on your video. I orig. purchased one from BestBuy, which that one worked but was really slow to refresh, so I bought the Cable Matters. I got it to work, but only for a minute and then it freezes on a screen shot. It will stay on that shot unless you umplug the USB, even if you restart the Mac or turn off the screen, the screen will not budge on that frame. Have you or anyone else experienced this?
Great setup mate! I've been wanting to this too, Just have some questions. 1) What model LG is featured? 2) How have you mounted them like that (what brand mount)? 3) What brand/type of mini displayport adapter are you using for the first monitor? Thanks again for the great vid!
Glad this vid helped. 1) LG model is 23EA63V-P (Great Monitor!) 2) Because the monitors have VESA mounting interface, I was able to mount them using a standard 75x75 mm desk mount. The mount I have is this one: www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?item_id=052318 But you can get other brands, too if you want as long as they support 75x75 mm mounts. 3) The mini DesplayPort Adapter is from a company named Moshi. Here is the link: store.moshimonde.com/mini-dp-hdmi-adapter.html Good luck!
Thanks. I will pop into a store to take a look at those LG's. Sure look good. It seems mounts are a bit more difficult to obtain at reasonable prices in Malaysia.
Also im not to sure if this would work but could you get 2 of the usb to hdmi (cable matters) cables and use both of those and shouldn't it be the same picture quality and timing so there isn't a delay between each montier?
Interesting video! I've been using the Mini Display Port to HDMI adaptor for a while now to connect my Macbook to an HDTV and spread out my workspace when editing in Premiere Pro. I see that you have yours connected to two external displays at the same time, but I didn't see you use the laptop while the two were connected. I was wondering: if I were to purchase a USB to HDMI adaptor as well, would I be able to spread out across all three, using them as separate (not mirrored) displays?
I got a Cable Matters USB 3.0 to HDMI to add a second external display and I was disappointed to learn that the necessary software was unable to be installed after the update to Mavericks.. -.- boo.
William Turner Use the installer for Lion. It should work fine on Mavericks. You will find the installer under the folder "Installers". Installer is titled "SGFX Lion USB Video Installer". Restart after words and should be good to go. You might experience flickering every once in while, but that's a compatibility issue with Mavericks.
MISSING MAN Recordings, it has nothing to do with the graphics card installed in the computer. The USB cable has a small graphics card that allows you to connect another monitor/TV. If either your monitor or driver installed in your laptop does not recognize the different resolution scales, you will be stuck with whatever you see.
+Richard Cook I don't know. I'm on Yosemite. The new adapter being sold right now supports Yosemite 100%. According to the product page, it does supports El Capitan.
Hey Benjamin Harris, just tested it out on Mavericks.. Works fine! Also tested it on MacBook Air. No issues there, too. Just make sure to install the driver for version 10.7 from the driver list if you had any problems installing the driver for CableMatter by initiating the "setup" file. Good luck!
I don't have a Mac Mini. However, looking at the current specifications for Mac Mini, any of the available models should do the job fairly better than what I showed on my Macbook Pro for three reasons: 1- There is one HDMI port and Thunderbolt port. Both are designed to be used for connecting TV/ Monitor to your MacMini. 2- Graphics Card on the current models is Intel HD Graphics 4000. The one I have installed is Intel HD Graphics 3000. 3- Processors for both models are pretty fast. If you want to be in the safe side, I would suggest going with the model that has a core i7 processor. Good luck!
can actually run 3 you have a thunderbolt which functions the same as mini display port and an hdmi. If you have a displayport or thunderbolt monitor you can daisy chain monitors. However the max resolution out of hdmi is lower than the max out of dp/tb.

Finally! Thank you SOOOOOOO much man! First actually useful video I have found!

Hey if you dont mind can you tell me how you got both monitors to display the same on your apple laptop bro ?
Hello, great video! I am trying to run dual thunderbolt displays off a mid 2012 MBP 13. Would this work for me or can you recommend something else?
Great video but what 2 cables where you using at the end on the video? The ones that made the movie watchable.
Thanks for the video! What's the max resolution of your monitors?
those were 720p.

I have macbook pro with an hdmi input. Do you think an hdmi splitter would work?
Did you ever use/review the Diamond multimedia adapter? How does it compare to the Cable Matters one?
Never got to review the Diamond adapter. Honestly, I am that pleased!
+aalhaimi So the Diamond adapter is better these 2?
Thanks for the info!
+Waail Fadhil, The video shown is for the movie "Man of Steel" (2013).
Have you used this with mac osx Sierra? Does it work?
how to play dual monitor video screen please help
hey does this usb to hdmi still work on Yosemite?
hey whats whats the model of your monitor and the stand? I was looking for decent dual monitors...thanks
Have a look at my reply to Andy V. Everything you need to know is there!
Can you have different resolutions on each screen? For example if you want to use a computer monitor plus a larger LED TV.
MISSING MAN Recordings, it depends on the monitor/TV driver. I see only 1080p and 720p on my secondary monitor that uses the USB cable.
aalhaimi So you mean it's more related to the monitor (or TV) that is connected than the graphic card in the computer?
MISSING MAN Recordings, it has nothing to do with the graphics card installed in the computer. The USB cable has a small graphics card that allows you to connect another monitor/TV. If either your monitor or driver installed in your laptop does not recognize the different resolution scales, you will be stuck with whatever you see.

thanks a lot bro will definitely check it out
Is it ok with mavericks? I just read that it doesn't work with mountain lion on an amazon review..
I am not sure. I have been using it for the past 3 months on Lion 10.7.5 with no issues.
Good luck!
can you do this via hdmi
Welp, fck that. Looks like I'm going to be using just my LED display then. Thanks for the vid.
Hi, Can a Mini Mac Graphic Card support 2 tvs? and if so what model of the Mac should i look in to ?Or anything that would do the same job ?
I don't have a Mac Mini. However, looking at the current specifications for Mac Mini, any of the available models should do the job fairly better than what I showed on my Macbook Pro for three reasons:

Why don't you just connect to your MacBook Pro do your monitor just by using a HDMI to DVI cable
Is the mbp"s closed?
+Tejas Sachdeva Yes. You can do that by connecting your laptop via the mini port to the first display and keeping your power supply cable connected.
refresh/sync rate bit off. See some lag between screens. only downfall I see
