As of after 2018 ,I’m yet to play a game that rivals rdr2 ..elden ring, GoW, horizon, ghost of Tsushima, tlou, AC odyssey etc played all these but rdr2 is still my go-to even after 100% completion
I feel the same way some days and the complete opposite on others Red dead 2 really did set a new standard for open worlds and story telling. Insane how good it is :)
I’m convinced people just have a short attention span or just the inability to relax and play. Length wasn’t that big an issue for me, it was a great length.
The fact people even propose length being an issue for a story mode in any triple A game let alone _this one_ is really frustrating. If it’s even worth the time of day to criticize rdr2 for length in someone’s opinion they could have spent the same amount of time typing that criticism playing pubg, war zone, helldivers2, halo, or any survival/battle royale/round based matches in other games. Criticizing the length of a story is counterproductive. It is also hurting the people who play the games by circulating even a hinted notion publishers can further justify cutting single player games into smaller experiences than they are already. The narrative crafted in Red Dead Redemption 2 from someone with a graduate degree in a creative writing (no debt boah) field: I think this game and it’s story will stand the test of time as a touchstone piece of American fiction. Single player story modes are important to video games not only for the value they provide in being a form of art that connects with people deeper than most mediums, they are vital for solidifying their potential to be recognized as a kind of storytelling and art form that demolishes the limit of what people think art can be. By saying “it’s too long” as a criticism that suggests and gives reassurance to developers and publishers that they can continue to excrete unfinished, always-online, live-service, multi-seasonal games designed to extract revenue recreating the same tactics as casinos. *Regardless* of cosmetic or pay to play monetization. I used to stay up all night playing COD zombies and Halo 3 with my bros growing up. Now that I’m strapped for time it matters to me how much I enjoy the story of any game I have time to play. I think every dollar I paid for RDR2 was worth it (not talking about online) and I haven’t felt the same way about anything I’ve played since then. If someone can’t play and finds the story too long and has the urge to go somewhere and complain about length that’s probably a deeper issue for them personally than the game.
most likely short attention span, a lot of people got so use to gta v and other fast paced games. RDR2 is good at taking it slow while presenting all the things it has to offer.
Both RDR games do such excellent work with character evolution, but holy shit RDR2 is on another level. Each character has such an interesting arc and such a definitive personality. John Marston and Arthur Morgan are 2 of the most memorable video game characters for me in over 30 years of gaming.
Couldn’t agree more Mike. The first while brilliant was just blown to pieces by 2. Arthur’s development and writing really is the best I’ve seen in the industry and I’m a last of us fanboy for Joel but man it respected the original redemption and added more too it. Can’t wait to replay the original in a few months :D
Greatest story mode game I’ve ever played. I went to the midnight release for it and have beat the game 5+ times and still every play through I find new people, places, weapons. It took me a couple play throughs to figure out what the trinkets were for. Whenever covid started I began a new game and am going for 100% completion😂 it’s been almost 2 years a lot has changed I lost my nan who I’d always talk to about red dead because my grandpa loved cowboy movies and just the whole cowboy era and just recently lost my father who I wasn’t that close with and two weeks ago I moved out of my childhood home where I lived with that same nan but I guess where I’m going with this is that still throughout all this craziness I still love this game as much as I did when I was just a teenager standing in that midnight release lineup waiting for this game wondering to myself will my wifi be able download the game in time before school the next day (the answer is no but I did what any real gamer would do skip school)
Same here I bought it day it came out was one of the first few in the line for it. Still one of the best games I have ever played. Also the amount of detail in this game has never been touched by any new game to date. Still all these years later a game even with new hardware hasn't achieved the level of detail. The graphics are still amazing as well.
I’ve said this for years The Red series is to the gaming world what sopranos/breaking bad is to the world of TV To me RDR1 and RDR2 are the best source of entertainment ever. I’ve been a huge fan since the release of RDR1
@@r3idmcread212 for me arthur morgan did the same that tony soprano in tv he change the way we look characters in video games with a more human and realistic way to see a videogame character.
@@juanpablovasquez4857 yes I do see what you’re saying. Arthur has more layers to him. We see beneath the ‘tough guy’ and obviously most fans would take to it very well But the reason John is still the best is that he represents to me the old west badass (The man with no name) type. Strong, straight forward. Know what I mean ? They’re both great as their own individual characters But more people need to show John marston the respect he deserves because he and RDR1 changed gaming forever
I finished the story mode and decided to live a western like life. I left Abigail and Jack and decided to move in a open house close to Valentine. I “work” as a bounty hunter and a “horse maintenance” for Pronghorn. I’ll stay a few nights at Pronghorn ranch before heading back to Valentines. I often visit Arthur’s grave and take a vacation to Cotorra Springs or Saint Denis. I normally go to Saint Denis by train. I also like to visit Pearson in Rhodes often and visit Bolder Glade. Every so often I might go on a alligator hunt or hunt in New Austin. Like it’s interesting to live like a normal person. I don’t use the map and normally stay in first person.
yes, because it's been many years already, and personally no game has come close to this masterpiece in term of narrativing storytelling, details in openworld and graphic
It’s seriously set a new standard in the industry for open world games even just judging of the comments on this one video alone it’s clearly made such a massive impact Glad you enjoy it just as much as me Dipaul :D
@@luissnowz People here don't understand what opinions are. It's honestly sad. Maybe just the mentality of these new gen retards. I personally think RD2 is way more fun than Just Cause, but that's all it is - an opinion.
Played this when it 1st came out but due to a busy time in life I never connected with it and stopped. Recently restarted it and after many hours and almost finishing the story mode I've got to comment on this. Firstly the world is just absolutely stunning. Graphically it's gorgeous. There have been many times I stop and just look around and admire it. For a vast open world game the attention to detail is extraordinary. I haven't come across 1 part of the map where it lacks detail. The day and night cycle and the weather cycle is probably the most convincing I've seen its just beautiful in places. The characters the towns the countryside the npcs the wildlife the whole world is just so alive with many different things going on throughout. Apart from missions and side quests you will come across tons of stuff to do just by exploring. The fact you can interact with any1 and how your reactions and decisions effect everything is what makes this such a clever game. Things have a knock on effect. After a few hours I really found myself slowly walking around soaking up the atmosphere of a breathing Iiving western. Many a time I've played games and end up getting from a to b as quickly as poss but never with red dead. As you progress through the main story it gets better as you go and really opens up and grips you. Even the side quest stories had me hooked. Some are funny some violent some emotional it really does mix things up. The character movement and your horse is fantastic. Was skeptical of the gunplay at 1st because its a Rockstar game but I have to admit once I adjusted to it and the dead eye and obviously the character movement and put it altogether Its absolutely spot on. The stealth side is very good also. Great touch with throwing knives and a bow.. there is so many things u can do in this game and so much goin on in the world the possibilities are endless. One thing I do like is how vulnerable your character can be at times and how the world can really catch u out. There was 1 part where I was exploring St Dennis at night and I got pickpocketed walking into a rough old saloon I didn't actually notice at 1st untill a woman shouted to me so I gave chase and eventually caught my mugger and gave him a beating and got my money back. Feeling all proud of myself I decided to walk back and bumped into a kind old fella near an alley way who asked me for help so I agreed. It was then I was jumped on by numerous men and ended up being mugged for 320 quid... its little touches like this throughout the game that makes taking your time exploring so worthwhile. There is so much I could I could say about this game in a positive light. All I can say is its 10/10 even in 2023. If you haven't tried this game then you are probably missing out on 1 of the best games ever designed.. go get it
This game is just more than a game, it’s an experience.. it’s not the most fun game at times, but it is def the most immersive and engaging world I’ve ever seen in a video game
I agree. I won’t say it’s the most fun game ever, but holy moly it has the best open world by a MILE. It’s the only game that even 4 years later, I am still just in complete awe of the open world even just to ride around in and explore. When I’m stoned af I’ll usually just ride around and explore and see what I’ll find and or what I’ll encounter and it’s always such an immersive and beautiful experience every time. If you are looking for a beautiful, insanely detailed, and engaging open world then look no further than this game cause this is as good as it gets in that department.
@@markspeza4853 no one would argue there, ir is most definitely not the most fun game ever, it’s not the most replayable game ever, but that first play through experience is something special..
I put around 300 hours into RDR2 between Xbox One X and PS4 Pro back in 2018/2019. I put it down and kind of forgot about it even though I loved it. Fast forward to December 2022; I randomly bought it on Steam sale last week and started playing it in 4K on Ultra settings at 60fps+ and this masterpiece blew my mind for a second time. On a high end PC it looks like a game that should have released this year, not 4 years ago. Rockstar outdid themselves with this one. I plan on putting at least another 300 hours into the PC version. 10/10.
I need to get around to finding the kķk and blow them to shreds and finding the ghost and doing story missions (and getting higher honor, it's not easy because this game is filled with stuff that gives you low low low honor, most ways to make money is low honor so you really need to try and it's so easy to get a bounty and a lot of good wyas to make money gets you wanted and a bounty like robbing trains but at the same time you don't want to lose money so you kill bounty hunters and get low honor, it's great how hard they made it to get high honor but at the same time make high honor come with good things, like I think high honor really fits arthur and the things he says with high honor vs low.)
@@willelliott1512 Now it's as good at time as any my friend!!! You will not be disappointed I just started playing on Friday and already clock in 35 hours. It has been a while since a game has captivated me as much as red dead redemption 2. I'm extremely invested in every single one of the characters as well as Arthur. It's mind boggling how this game is game is so excellent and this should be what other developers strive to create.
No matter the games I've played and really enjoyed, RDR2 is just a different experience like no other and the story really just pulls you in. It may have some annoying scenarios every now and then but when a game is as spectacular as this, it can be looked past. I can't wait to have my second playthrough soon. I normally take a loooong time before playing a game again since I don't like remembering everything lol. Also, I just wish RDR1 could make it to PC as well, never played that one
For some reason I enjoyed my second playthrough even more than the first one. For me the game didn't feel too long in any point and I loved every second of it. I understand why some of my friends are not a fan of RDR2 though, maybe I just have such a soft spot for wild west in movies and games :D But in my opinion it is one of the greatest games ever alongside The Witcher 3.
I agree. I'm on my second play through now. I'm noe finding all the things and details I missed on the first playthrough and it almost makes it feel like a different game at some points.
This game has the BEST story of any game. It’s like a blockbuster movie but you get to play it, it got me pretty damn emotional too. Definitely get this game
I bought the game on its initial release and finished it within two weeks. Never thought about it much since then but I saw it 1/2 off on PC last week and decided to give it another play through. 50 hours later I have yet to even progress past the Horseshoe Overlook camp, so much I missed. What a masterpiece.
Yep, not sure why rockstar haven’t updated it to at least 60fps like most games. Probably planning another rip off remaster but hey the ps4 version still holds up :D
It's been nearly 4 years and to this day; I still consume a little RDR2 content on a daily bases to make my day a little better. Photomode; especially on 4k Ultra for PC is a huge time sink for me because I love being able to capture spectacular moments in the game. The use of mods greatly enhances this. But Arthur I think was truly, the first protagonist I've genuinely come to accept as a character so real and human; he made the ending of CH6 that much more painful to sit and watch as he faded away and left me sitting there in silence; trying to figure out what exactly it is that I'm feeling right now.
Arthur said “revenge is fools game”, Jack took revenge on a very high ranked and decorated federal agent. While canonically speaking 3 people are alive who could point fingers in Jack’s direction. Rdr3 as in “red dead redemption 3” must happen with the Jack he’s the last piece in this whole revenge cycle. 1. World War I does not really mean anything to the United States until April 1917 when we get involved and soon after that we start drafting. We have a few years to work with for Jack’s Western adventures. 1914,1915,1916, and part of 1917 2. If historical accuracy is the problem well by most estimates that I’ve seen many historians consider the end of the wild west to be around 1890 to about 1895. So by that logic rdr2 and rdr1 are unrealistic technically given their time periods. 3. Rockstar operates under a different timeline giving the years they set their games, they seaming look at things from the perspective of “as long as horse travel is still normal, western stories happening is not ridiculous yet and not far out of the realm of believability”. So we can say Rockstars standard for the Wild West era factors with end of the horse era so 1865-1920ish. 4. Considering they literally made “Cowboys of the Caribbean” by making chapter 5 in Guarma I don’t think they’re that too concerned about keeping everything 100% strict on standard Wild West areas/adventures. So I don’t think using only ONE part of rdr3 being set over seas in World War I is that far-fetched of an idea for rockstar. 5. People think he has no story to tell… he shot a retired top brass FBI federal agent… then canonically speaking leaves 3 ppl alive who can point at jack. The agent that he first asked about where to find Edgar, along with Edgar‘s wife and brother are still alive. With the brother being the one who most likely finds the body after Edgar doesn’t return back to camp for a while, he goes looking for him. Then inevitably reports that to the police then news gets back to Blackwater quickly. Than agent Jack first asked is going to give a statement about a young man late teens early 20’s was looking for him. Considering what happened to Jack’s dad a few years earlier is not ancient history. Some law may decide to go down to breachers hope to go see if Jack home obviously he’s smart enough not to just go home, after a few weeks no sight of him returning, along with the statements from the brother and the wife. The Government is going to assume that Jack is most likely the one who killed Edger because he has the biggest motive to wanna go after Edgar, with no alibi to suggest otherwise, and conveniently not at home. Also because we’re supposed to be starting to enter a modern age, killing cops especially Top brass federal agents is going to give Jack a hefty bounty and law is not going to just let this go. Boom Jack is on the run *RDR 3 starts* 6. Another thing the redemption storyline does not give out free happy endings. Jack will get his no doubt, but so many people believe he just killed Edgar and just got away with it that’s not how rockstar writes the redemption storyline you don’t just walk away Scott free with no repercussion. The redemption trilogy is about finding redemption in the eyes of law enforcement and or in the eyes of your peers/yourself. Set during end of the wild west era as the foundational background for the “Redemption” stories. I want Jack to have a happy ending and I know he will rockstar won’t kill him off or leave him sitting in the jail forever as the ending of RDR3. But his redemption at least in the eyes of the law must be earned not just handed freely while simultaneously being very inconsistent with what the theme of the redemption storyline is about. Plot wise rdr3 *Chapters 1-8* Jack goes on the run for killing Edgar Ross, shortly into his life as an outlaw he runs into “the last outlaw gang of the West” he joins up with them considering he knows on his own he’s not likely to last very long he doesn’t know how to go “on the run” John and Abigail tried to keep him away from that life as much as possible. After joining Jack and his new gang robs banks, trains, etc.. “standard wild West adventures”. 1914- middle 1917. *Epilogue 1* he gets captured by Archer Fordham in middle 1917, Along with a few of his gang buds Who are about his age. And because they’re all young man Their offered a deal in exchange for their freedom or not. “You gentlemen can choose to fight In ww1 if you survive you’ll be free men when you get back consider this your sentence, or you could choose not to fight and you can sit in prison for the rest of your lives or I can just hang you… your choice” obviously they choose to fight we play as Jack in World War I. *Epilogue 2* it’s November 1918 the war is over, Jack and his friends who made it go back to the states are declared as free men in the eyes of the law, Jack is officially redeemed. shortly after He Married his gf, Buys a new ranch to honor his parents, and starts writing the book “rdr”. *Final Act* 1919 jack’s been home and adjusting to “modern life” for 1 year. We see the ranch is doing well, he just finished his book, has two kids, his friends are also doing well they also live relatively close by to him. We last see Jack close the book he just finished, look at the pictures on the wall , we see his dad‘s old gang, and Jacks gang, picture of his squad mates from the war, solo picture of himself, and his parents and his new family. He kinda smiles Then stands up put on his dad‘s hat goes outside to go work around the ranch *The END* *Credits* shows Jack and his family over the years of their lives in the 1920s 30s 40s 50s… up until Jack is an old man. With a Heavy focus showing Jack’s Ranch Grow into a big business over the years, and he has several best selling books he wrote, also showing how his kids turned out, and life with his wife, and Nice moments with his old gang/war buds over the years. *Honorable mentions* Assuming none of John’s old gang members have anything to do with Jack story during the outlaw stage or when he’s overseas in the war. Might be a nice little nod to show clips of them in the credits scene “how they’re doing now”. Last time we saw them was 1907 be nice to check in to see what their life is like in 1919 at the true very end of the Wild West. Rdr4, “Red dead riches” can focus on standard wild west era stories in 1870s 1880s. Red dead 3 finishes the “end of the west stories”. Now we can truly focus on prime era western stories.
Loved every single thing you said about RDR2, my boy. Length can definitely be a problem for some. I actually did the platinum trophy for this game, and it took about 245 hours (give or take, because a lot of that time was also spent roaming around this beautiful open world), and I kid you not, some of the requirements are sooo dragging. Wish it could run at a locked 60fps on my tv though.
“Weapon variety is pretty lacking as well but honestly it makes sense, sure it would be nice to have more weapons but for the time period it just wouldn’t make a lot of sense to have loads and loads of guns…” Dude, what. 😆
Was basically saying it would of been cool to have more weapon variety but because of the western time period and the need for historical accuracy it wouldn’t make sense to offer a ton of variety.
i gave up playing during the prologue bc of the movement, i was fresh off tsushima from it's fast pace gameplay making RD feel like a chore, wasn't til around a year later after completing every other game i had, i said okay...let's try this again, it's now in my debatable all time favourite. i've only done 1 complete playthrough but i started a new game and tried to do everything you can do before visiting a certain debt, from getting the best horses early to getting all the trinkets an legendary outfits, camp upgrades, treasure hunts, all weapons, location journal entries, max deadeye...truly insane amount of things to do & though it can be considered "fat" an unnecessary, as much of a hassle it is to do, to me it added value to the world building & made accomplishing it feel that much better, it had me thinking "for such a beautiful world is that all there is" in regards to ghost of tsushima an had me dreaming ghost had more to offer. though i wouldn't say the full RDR2 experience is for everyone, those perfect pelt hunts were truly a hassle, but as you say, story wise it's peak and anyone into that should not deprive themselves of experiencing it's glory
It’s definitely not for everyone but like you said in your comment the sheer amount of things to do and get lost in is no less than extraordinary especially because of the insane amount of polish required to make it all work :D
My favourite game ever...the story is just brilliantly written, Arthur is the best main protagonist I’ve had the pleasure of playing, the open world is the most detailed I’ve played, the side characters are written brilliantly, the side content is amazing, the small side activities are immersive, theres alot of things here that are done for the immersion and it works well albeit at a cost, the AI is impressive, even in shootouts they try to flank you and what not, however it’s not perfect. Nothing is. Mission design is very boring and linear, gameplay loop is a little repetitive however the ragdolls do help a little but not much, the game CAN feel like a slog depending on how you want to play it. However the good absolutely outshines the bad, it is by no means perfect, I wouldn’t even say it’s the best “game” but as an experience...one where you can just sit back, take your time, pay attention to the details within the story or outside of the story, take in the beautiful world and it’s many many details, get invested in the amazing characters and story....it’s easily the best in terms of that, so that is why this game is my favourite, not because it’s the best game but because it’s the best experience a game can offer.
Even though you heavily criticize the gameplay its yoir favorite, so can I ask what game is not your favorite but has what you view as perfect gameplay?
I got this game on sale 6 weeks ago and played till chapter 2. I liked it. Spent thr rest of the next 4 weeks not touching it due to busy at work. Had my weekend the last 2 days and I decided to give it another go. Instantly fell in love and accomplished so much I'm almost 70% complete in 2 days , I have so much more to explore and do before I even touch online. !!
I was never interested in RDR because I wasn't into open world games, I only played racing games and fighting games thus i wasn't hyped at all when RDR2 was released. I bought both this past march just to try it and I fell deep into it like a pubescent teen discovering an unholy website, RDR2 is easy in my top 3 favorite games of all time now
Is it me or are all the new racing games getting less and less interesting? Glad to see it isn’t just that unholy website that can activate our dopamine :D Glad you enjoyed it that much Chris :) plenty of other great open world games out there!
@@JacksGameReviews you're right, they're getting less interesting, imo they no longer have that adrenaline rush the previous racing games used to have because they're more focused on the microtransactions aspect of it, at least in the games I played. Last racing game I played and actually had fun was Forza Horizon 3
@@JacksGameReviews I am into racing simulators that are as realistic as possible. And yea there’s a lack of good games coming out, but a lot of the great simulators are 5-15 years old and still played A LOT and also modded. So there’s still a bunch to play and a rich gaming scene, and there’s definitely some amazing games that came out some years ago like: ACC, DR2.0, WRC10, F1 22. So there is indeed new stuff, Forza Horizon 5 also looks stunning.
@@JacksGameReviews well I'm one of those gamers that likes to experience everything the game has to offer, I'm also biased in the sense that its a world i enjoy spending time in. I can see where it might be too long for some people though.
I keep going back to this game. I started playing it in 2019. I’ve played through the single player mode twice. And played more RDR2 Online than I would like to admit. Because the online mode isn’t very good. But the game is so good I manage to enjoy it. LoL.
beautiful-Sharp right played sir :) and you conveying things to everyone good completely. How do you play, why is your figure so fit and firm? When I play I'm not fit and firm way and a Characters in RDO. real thin body (muscleless) hope players or peoples will continue to interested Red Dead god bless you.
I'm playing this in 2024. Played in 2018, but I dont know why but I couldnt get into it. But this time, i have a baby and enjoying the slower pace much more now. It's therapeutic for me. Such a good game.
While playing the game the people felt like people, I actually wanted them to like me and I actually felt bad if they didn’t like me, it was a weird feeling, to go from just seeing ai characters to people, I always spent my time whenever I could to spend time with them through random events
I just finished sekiro wrapping up my soulsborne run (elden ring, blood borne and dark souls 3). I was stumped whether to play Nioh, witcher 3 or R2D2, I think I'll play R2D2 since I bought it ages ago and never really had the time to finish it off.
I had this and put a few hours into it. You can't not appreciate the attention to detail on a technical level but found the mechanics that came with that much detail to become quite tedious. Sold it along with my PS4 when I got a PS5 and have been getting a hankering to try it again so my rebuy it now it's cheap (£12 I think from CEX) and give it another chance
I'm currently visiting every region as John while reading Arthurs journal. Visiting the places he visited as John reads. I only wish Rockstar added a bookmark for the journal
I played that game the the full extent I could for one single reason: Daniel Lanois. The music score is so, so, so good and you have to get to these songs and experience them thought the story. Daniel Lanois, if you guys don't know him, is to me the best music producer/composer of the past two or three decades. He worked with U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Willie Nelson, etc, etc. Hes amazingly talented, subtle, inspired. Damn that score was good.
Im one of those who grew up with the first Red Dead Redemption game and when the second game came out i was like one of the people who was negative towards it and thought it was another letdown like GTA 5 but after playing rdr2 for days in many hours i realized how much i underestimated this game. In my opinion the second game fixed several things that bothered me about the first game such as the emptiness, riding mechanic, weak story and uninteresting characters (exept Marston, Bonnie and Edgar). As for the western environment i prefer the more historical perspective of western in rdr2 than the mythical spaghetti western in rdr1. Sure the first game had bigger map, better ragdolls and better soundtrack but it's not enough for me. Some might see rdr2 as a letdown but i don't see it that way and see it rather as an improvment.
I was playing on pc here with a ultra wide monitor. I was lucky enough to upgrade my gpu from a 1070 to rtx 3060ti so that may be it? Or it could just be the resolution but I doubt it :/
Oh and no I don’t use hdr Never had a screen that supported it properly and when I do use it, it ruins any footage I get because all the colours are washed out :)
people don't talk about the aging gunplay, quest systems etc enough. Actually you're the FIRST reviewer i've seen who mentioned it. Yes, it looks beautiful, yes the world is one of the most lived in worlds i've EVER seen and it's SO FAR beyond others it's incredible. BUT R*'s insistence on cramming a linear story mode into a world like this is like visiting Elysium but you're not allowed to leave the tour bus.
Certainly is. Still run into the occasional glitch. However, this is on my Top 3 favorite. I’m playing it again, currently about to start chapter 4. Man, this game will take chunks of your time without even realizing it. I go hunt a cougar, 2 hours later I’m like dang, where does the time go.
Even in 2022, 4 years later, RDR2 is still the most engaging and immersive world in gaming and i firmly believe its going to take quite a long time to top even now.
Not profitable enough compared to gta online. It sucks especially due to the amount of potential a online mode would have in a western setting but they just wanted to make gta online 2.0 :/
In all my playthroughs I play RD2 like real life, an average day for my arthur would be doing camp chores then going hunting, maybe playing some poker or fiver finger fillet and then doing something to make some money like bounty hunting or robbing store underground enterprises. And then relax with some fishing or a nice horse ride before heading back to camp. if it's too dark I always camp out and ride only in day unless i'm forced otherwise. I know a lot of people think that this can be boring but I think it makes the game feel more alive and relaxing.
I completed rdr 2 Even the epilogue It is worth putting your time for the story and the graphics. But you'll have to bear with the slow grind and the long horse rides
The last of us imo is the closest rival. Especially tlou 2. I loved that game. Red dead is obviously deep as heck but it’s almost too much.. definitely in my top 5 of all time. In no order for me it’s Last of us 1-2 Spider man 1 + miles morales (spider man 2 if lives up to the hype will be my all time number 1. God of war both Uncharted Red dead 2
When i first played RDR2 i got so lost in the free roam aspect by all of the side stuff that you can do in the game,so it took me over 150 hours to finish the game.I agree on the Guarma chapter,i didnt care for any of the stuff happening in that chapter or the characters, that chapter was supposed to be bigger and almost a free roam open world of itself but the content was massively cut in Guarma
I'm still at the point where I prefer Geralt of Rivia and The Witcher 3 to Arthur Morgan and RDR2, but as I play more RDR2, I'm seeing what all the hype is about. Take your time and fall in love with it, definitely worth the effort.
RDR2 is by no doubt the greatest game I have ever played since I started gaming in 2004. The amazing part is that RDR2 is still better than anything that has released this year.
I dont get the "outdated" criticism. Outdated means that something has been replaced by something way better, so what do other big open world games do that rdr2 doesn't??? Every open world game is structured in linear missions, so why is it only critisised in rdr2 and not on other games ?
9:52 ''Weapon variety is pretty lacking, but it makes sense for the time period as there weren't a lot of guns'' This time period was probably one of the most innovative times for firearms, as the development of many new types was during this time. Oh I totally get that mate I respect the massive focus on keeping it faithful to the time period but because of that the game does lack gunplay variety Sure you could use the bow but other than that it all just plays the same but it really is just a nit pick in the grand scheme of things. It’s a long game and everyone I know finished it at least once :)
@@JacksGameReviews You misunderstood what I said. Gun variety shouldn't be a limiting factor. The most innovation in firearms technology was from the 1880s to 1920s. All modern firearms in use today use principles and technologies from that timeperiod. The only major change is the material used and the manufacturing process. RockStar giving the same feel to every type of firearm is their choice, the timeperiod certainly lent itself a greater variety.
i played it when it first released completed the story 3x however this was before i was aware of the online version and i’m heavily considering getting it again. should i?
The online is pretty dead you’d get bored quite quickly but for the price you can get the game now maybe? I’d probably do it through a ps plus or xbox game pass so at least you get access to other games as well
i just got my PS4 a year ago for a good price and started playing Tripple A Game Titles for around ten euro. I am not in a hurry to get the newest stuff and it saves money and you feel much better when have waited for something
Fair play Brain :D Definitely take your time and wait for sales, it’s one of the reasons I review older games for people that don’t wanna pay full price :) Plenty of great games going for a cheap price these days
My only complaint is, and this is a big one. We never got a series X update. Nor did they update Undead nightmare that might I say is pretty much one of the best if not the best DLC to date.
I still remember starting rdr2 for the first time in januaryor febuary 2019 that game changed my life forever i played it for the next 3 years after that
My friends been bugging me to play this and it just went on sale for $20 for the next 18 days, I’m a little peeved that even on sale for $10 for the online part, they’re making you pay at all… it should be included in my opinion. Gonna buy the main game and give it a shot though. I enjoyed the first one. Last of Us the original was my favorite story so far in gaming since Halo 1 & 2. I’m hoping this one lives up to the hype.
Only two things I hate about this game is the looting animations. There is like one animation to loot bodies and looting inside buildings has a crappy camera. The other thing is the way the game disarms you in towns when you get off horse.
The world is so beautiful crafted that even if some part of the gameplay could be improved, it is a masterpiece. Even we you are not playing, you think about it.
As of after 2018 ,I’m yet to play a game that rivals rdr2 ..elden ring, GoW, horizon, ghost of Tsushima, tlou, AC odyssey etc played all these but rdr2 is still my go-to even after 100% completion
I feel the same way some days and the complete opposite on others
Red dead 2 really did set a new standard for open worlds and story telling. Insane how good it is :)
but do u play rust?
I play devil may cry
Thusima was overhyped af, the world is dead af its just a hack and slash game...
Bro I agree with u one hundred percent 👍
I’m convinced people just have a short attention span or just the inability to relax and play. Length wasn’t that big an issue for me, it was a great length.
Thats all it is. They want 5 minute online battle royales. They cant explore and savor the story
That’s what she said 😅
I didn't want it to end I'm on 5th playthrough in 2024.
most likely short attention span, a lot of people got so use to gta v and other fast paced games. RDR2 is good at taking it slow while presenting all the things it has to offer.
Red Dead 2 made me appreciate the Wild West era. I never cared for it before. Definitely one of the best video games ever.
Same. I never cared for westerns at all, but now I watch them occasionally, and some of them are fantastic.
@@JacksGameReviews good game but very boring
@@furkandk2234 One of the most fun games I've ever played.
@@furkandk2234 not boring at all actually
Greatest story mode game I’ve ever played. I went to the midnight release for it and have beat the game 5+ times and still every play through I find new people, places, weapons. It took me a couple play throughs to figure out what the trinkets were for. Whenever covid started I began a new game and am going for 100% completion😂 it’s been almost 2 years a lot has changed I lost my nan who I’d always talk to about red dead because my grandpa loved cowboy movies and just the whole cowboy era and just recently lost my father who I wasn’t that close with and two weeks ago I moved out of my childhood home where I lived with that same nan but I guess where I’m going with this is that still throughout all this craziness I still love this game as much as I did when I was just a teenager standing in that midnight release lineup waiting for this game wondering to myself will my wifi be able download the game in time before school the next day (the answer is no but I did what any real gamer would do skip school)
it's not bad, someone has to give nintendo competition.

Same here I bought it day it came out was one of the first few in the line for it. Still one of the best games I have ever played. The graphics are still amazing as well.
I’ve said this for years
The Red series is to the gaming world what sopranos/breaking bad is to the world of TV
To me RDR1 and RDR2 are the best source of entertainment ever. I’ve been a huge fan since the release of RDR1
The Sopranos is peak TV still to this day! :D

@@r3idmcread212 for me arthur morgan did the same that tony soprano in tv he change the way we look characters in video games with a more human and realistic way to see a videogame character.
@@juanpablovasquez4857 yes I do see what you’re saying.
Arthur has more layers to him. We see beneath the ‘tough guy’ and obviously most fans would take to it very well
But the reason John is still the best is that he represents to me the old west badass
(The man with no name) type. Strong, straight forward. Know what I mean ?
They’re both great as their own individual characters
But more people need to show John marston the respect he deserves because he and RDR1 changed gaming forever
It’s seriously set a new standard in the industry for open world games even just judging of the comments on this one video alone it’s clearly made such a massive impact
Glad you enjoy it just as much as me Dipaul :D
I might have never played RD2 but i would say Just Cause 4 can get a bit close in my opinion tho
@@luissnowz lmao 🤣! nope just cause 4 comes absolutely nowhere close to a masterpiece like red dead redemption 2.

I really need to get around to playing this game, I bought it ages ago and only played like the first 10 mins of it. love the vid as always.
Do it man, find some time off from work or school etc and just let yourself get into it :D It's a slow start but man it's worth it :)

Now it's as good at time as any my friend!!! You will not be disappointed
I just started playing on Friday and already clock in 35 hours.
It has been a while since a game has captivated me as much as red dead redemption 2.
I'm extremely invested in every single one of the characters as well as Arthur. It's mind boggling how this game is game is so excellent and this should be what other developers strive to create.
1st game is rumored to get remake or remastered.
I loved Lenny. I had to pause the game when he died, and I was so frustrated that it seemed like no one cared about his death.
Lenny was a G for sure, and I also liked Sean, I understand why he annoyed some people but he was a cool character for me
Spoiler!
Similar experience. Enjoyed it initially but never appreciated it as much until now
I'm on my third playthrough and I don't plan to stop anytime soon, unless I'm playing rdr1 again, these games changed my gaming standards.

Nearly 7 years old😢 remember the day my brother got it and it all began when I said “ what’s that”
Arthur said “revenge is fools game”, Jack took revenge on a very high ranked and decorated federal agent.
1914,1915,1916, and part of 1917
Boom Jack is on the run *RDR 3 starts*
Plot wise rdr3
*Chapters 1-8* Jack goes on the run for killing Edgar Ross, shortly into his life as an outlaw he runs into “the last outlaw gang of the West” he joins up with them considering he knows on his own he’s not likely to last very long he doesn’t know how to go “on the run” John and Abigail tried to keep him away from that life as much as possible.
He kinda smiles Then stands up put on his dad‘s hat goes outside to go work around the ranch *The END*
*Credits* shows Jack and his family over the years of their lives in the 1920s 30s 40s 50s… up until Jack is an old man.
I'm currently on my first playthrough, just started after finishing rdr1 first. This game is so amazing, I actually get goosebumps from playing it! 😊
Wish it could run at a locked 60fps on my tv though.
as 2024 its 6 years old & guess what I have played this game for 2 times, and I will play this again
I may pick it up today. I've been waiting for a real sale, and at $23 CAD on GMG ($18 USD), it may be time.

Yep exactly.
@user-gp5ce4ns4j I respect you being a hater of the game
It's the year 2024 and RDR2 is still my favorite game EVER
“Weapon variety is pretty lacking as well but honestly it makes sense, sure it would be nice to have more weapons but for the time period it just wouldn’t make a lot of sense to have loads and loads of guns…” Dude, what. 😆
Was basically saying it would of been cool to have more weapon variety but because of the western time period and the need for historical accuracy it wouldn’t make sense to offer a ton of variety.
My favourite games Skyrim, rdr2, gta 5, ghost of Tsushima, gow 3, black ops 3, modern warfare 2019, Astro bot
Just started playing over the past few days; it's as brilliant as everyone said. Great video x
i gave up playing during the prologue bc of the movement, i was fresh off tsushima from it's fast pace gameplay making RD feel like a chore, wasn't til around a year later after completing every other game i had, i said okay...let's try this again, it's now in my debatable all time favourite. i've only done 1 complete playthrough but i started a new game and tried to do everything you can do before visiting a certain debt, from getting the best horses early to getting all the trinkets an legendary outfits, camp upgrades, treasure hunts, all weapons, location journal entries, max deadeye...truly insane amount of things to do & though it can be considered "fat" an unnecessary, as much of a hassle it is to do, to me it added value to the world building & made accomplishing it feel that much better, it had me thinking "for such a beautiful world is that all there is" in regards to ghost of tsushima an had me dreaming ghost had more to offer. though i wouldn't say the full RDR2 experience is for everyone, those perfect pelt hunts were truly a hassle, but as you say, story wise it's peak and anyone into that should not deprive themselves of experiencing it's glory
It’s definitely not for everyone but like you said in your comment the sheer amount of things to do and get lost in is no less than extraordinary especially because of the insane amount of polish required to make it all work :D
For a better challenge use the basic weapons. I played the entire game using only the cattleman revolver and the carbine repeater. These are my faves.
Absolutely wonderfull game! Never played it on launch but experiencing it now is simply epic. Love it!
If only there was high stakes poker I dont wanna play for 10 dollars
First game in the modern era of side quests and collectibles I did 100% was RDR. Working on making this the second.
Red dead 2 is a masterpiece, even after playing the game for 4 years, still love exploring the world, my favorite game of all time 👏👏👏👏
I was never interested in RDR because I wasn't into open world games, I only played racing games and fighting games thus i wasn't hyped at all when RDR2 was released. I bought both this past march just to try it and I fell deep into it like a pubescent teen discovering an unholy website, RDR2 is easy in my top 3 favorite games of all time now
Is it me or are all the new racing games getting less and less interesting?
Glad to see it isn’t just that unholy website that can activate our dopamine :D
Glad you enjoyed it that much Chris :) plenty of other great open world games out there!
As far as Story telling and Immersion
1. RDR2
2. Last of Us 2
3. Horizon Zero Dawn
I love Horizon Zero Dawn story and gameplay!
I just recently played this for the first time and it instantly became my favorite game
I can’t take this dude serious when he said ghost of 2shima.
Best game of all time for me I absolutely 💯 love ❤️ this game 🎮
Definitely a industry benchmark in so many ways Rowan :D
Did you like the epilogues length? Without spoiling ofcourse ;)
@@JacksGameReviews well I'm one of those gamers that likes to experience everything the game has to offer, I'm also biased in the sense that its a world i enjoy spending time in. I can see where it might be too long for some people though.
Absolutely agree
I keep going back to this game. I started playing it in 2019. I’ve played through the single player mode twice. And played more RDR2 Online than I would like to admit. Because the online mode isn’t very good. But the game is so good I manage to enjoy it. LoL.
beautiful-Sharp right played sir :)
and you conveying things to everyone good completely.
How do you play, why is your figure so fit and firm?
When I play I'm not fit and firm way and a Characters in RDO.
real thin body (muscleless)
hope players or peoples will continue to interested Red Dead
god bless you.
Got it for 20$, and have played for 1-2 weeks. It is the pinnacle of gaming in my opinion. It’s gonna be a hard one to beat for years to come.
Rdr2 is sale right now.
thinking about getting it for $20 rn. I'm debating between this and cyberpunk 2077
@@spizzz2go cyberpunk if PS5, anything else go RDR2
@@salt2209 i’m on pc i’ll get rdr2
@@spizzz2 yeah do that
Really cool that you updated the review. What resolution do you play on?
I’ve recently turned to ultrawide so I tend to play on 3440 1440
Older games don’t support it so I just do 16:9 at 1440p :)
I'm playing this in 2024. Played in 2018, but I dont know why but I couldnt get into it. But this time, i have a baby and enjoying the slower pace much more now. It's therapeutic for me. Such a good game.
Bought it yesterday on ps5, first time playing this game, and love it - big yes
Fall 2023 rdr2 still the only game that feels "next gen" even though its a last gen game
Great video essay!
Great video dude your commentary is spot on and trustworthy I like it
The details are so beautiful and good… no other game can compare!
Got it day one, breaks my heart how Rockstar literally just dumped it... day one. Such a waste.
I bought it 3 weeks ago. It's now my 2nd all time favorite game after the original ff7.
Ff7 still holding out strong :D
It’s pretty clear why rockstar is one of the most respected developers out there despite there online modes
Can confirm at the beginning of 2023 it is still the best game made so far
Yep!
Is it just me or do all Rockstar game movement mechanics feel slow and sluggish?
I'm currently visiting every region as John while reading Arthurs journal. Visiting the places he visited as John reads. I only wish Rockstar added a bookmark for the journal
Nice to see people playing it on PC
I play through this game like once a year. Masterpiece.
What system are you playing it on ? And is the tv hdr ? Your graphic look so much cleaner then mine and I’m curious as to why
I was playing on pc here with a ultra wide monitor.
I was lucky enough to upgrade my gpu from a 1070 to rtx 3060ti so that may be it?
Or it could just be the resolution but I doubt it :/
Oh and no I don’t use hdr
Never had a screen that supported it properly and when I do use it, it ruins any footage I get because all the colours are washed out :)
people don't talk about the aging gunplay, quest systems etc enough.
The gun play and combat is still incredible.
I just finished downloading the ultimate edition, so excited to play Red Dead tomorrow💯
Just wait til the remake comes out. Rumored for October November.
@@NYATLChris remake?
I hope that Rockstar is working on RDR3
I imagine after gta 6 they will get on it
If not I reckon a new ip is in the works :/
hopefully the don't, I hope they are working on gta6 instead
Red dead 3 was recently confirmed. You got your wish.
Honestly this game should be placed in a museum
Even in 2022, 4 years later, RDR2 is still the most engaging and immersive world in gaming and i firmly believe its going to take quite a long time to top even now.
The only game that will beat it is GTA6 probably
I’d highly recommend the story but online is a lost cause. Online had potential but Rockstar said no
Great video and still love the game but why the f**k is Rockstar not updating online games mode its sad
Not profitable enough compared to gta online.
It sucks especially due to the amount of potential a online mode would have in a western setting but they just wanted to make gta online 2.0 :/
@@JacksGameReviews sad 😪
In all my playthroughs I play RD2 like real life, an average day for my arthur would be doing camp chores then going hunting, maybe playing some poker or fiver finger fillet and then doing something to make some money like bounty hunting or robbing store underground enterprises. And then relax with some fishing or a nice horse ride before heading back to camp. if it's too dark I always camp out and ride only in day unless i'm forced otherwise. I know a lot of people think that this can be boring but I think it makes the game feel more alive and relaxing.
I completed rdr 2
Even the epilogue
It is worth putting your time for the story and the graphics.
But you'll have to bear with the slow grind and the long horse rides
Now if Jesus likes red dead 2 it must be gods gift right?
@@JacksGameReviews Yea, it's my gift
Lol
This man's video quality is amazing!
The last of us imo is the closest rival. Especially tlou 2. I loved that game. Red dead is obviously deep as heck but it’s almost too much.. definitely in my top 5 of all time. In no order for me it’s
Last of us 1-2
Spider man 1 + miles morales (spider man 2 if lives up to the hype will be my all time number 1.
God of war both
Uncharted
Red dead 2
I played RDR2 the day it released in October 2018 and my horse saw a snake. It's still complaining and panicking about it today.
RDR2 is by no doubt the greatest game I have ever played since I started gaming in 2004. The amazing part is that RDR2 is still better than anything that has released this year.
@@scottt1089 absolutely!
I bought the game and have been waiting for six days for it to complete its download, i hope it’ll be worth the wait of downloading it
6 days of downloading? Jesus man I feel for you
It will be worth it :D
wtf? Are you on like a 33.6k modem or something?
I never saw the hype for this game but it was on ps plus premium for free so I Decided to pick it up and it was such a good experience
Seems that new PlayStation plus idea is working as intended, glad you got to play red dead 2 through it, one hell of a deal :D
I dont get the "outdated" criticism. Outdated means that something has been replaced by something way better, so what do other big open world games do that rdr2 doesn't??? Every open world game is structured in linear missions, so why is it only critisised in rdr2 and not on other games ?
9:52 ''Weapon variety is pretty lacking, but it makes sense for the time period as there weren't a lot of guns''
This time period was probably one of the most innovative times for firearms, as the development of many new types was during this time. Some becoming standard and others obviously not.
Examples;
Revolvers/pistols:
patterson 1836
pepperbox 1865

Lee Enfield 1895
Krag jorgenson 1886
revolving rifle 1855
henry rifle 1866
whinchester model 1873
rolling block 1866
springfield 1873
whinchester falling block 1879
spencer 1860
whinchester model 1890
madsen rasummen 1896

400 nitro express 1895
shotguns:

browning auto 5 1898
side by side lefever 1883
bannerman 1890
john dickson triple barrel 1891
springfield forager 1881

rdr2 already included quite a few of these, but they certainly had more to work with if they so chose to.
Oh I totally get that mate
I respect the massive focus on keeping it faithful to the time period but because of that the game does lack gunplay variety
Sure you could use the bow but other than that it all just plays the same but it really is just a nit pick in the grand scheme of things.
I’d probably do it through a ps plus or xbox game pass so at least you get access to other games as well
@@js5791 i appreciate it.
i just got my PS4 a year ago for a good price and started playing Tripple A Game Titles for around ten euro. I am not in a hurry to get the newest stuff and it saves money and you feel much better when have waited for something
Fair play Brain :D
Definitely take your time and wait for sales, it’s one of the reasons I review older games for people that don’t wanna pay full price :)
Plenty of great games going for a cheap price these days
My only complaint is, and this is a big one. We never got a series X update. Nor did they update Undead nightmare that might I say is pretty much one of the best if not the best DLC to date.
I actually think this the only game that someone play and didnt like it. I think we gonna still talked about this game in 30 years
I still remember starting rdr2 for the first time in januaryor febuary 2019 that game changed my life forever i played it for the next 3 years after that
My friends been bugging me to play this and it just went on sale for $20 for the next 18 days, I’m a little peeved that even on sale for $10 for the online part, they’re making you pay at all… it should be included in my opinion.
This game needs a hardcore mode like rdr 1. Playing in free aim helps but man can Arthur take shots like terminator. I want a CHALLENGE!
