Had this as our first dance for our wedding. I got questioned about the bleakness of the lyrics but there's something really sweet and optimistic in the song. Ultimately, chances are one of us will die before the other, so we're setting ourselves up for a broken heart one way or another - I don't see how it's different for anyone. I think there's something painfully beautiful about that. So on first listen the song seems to apply more to doomed short-term relationships, but there's something in there for those in the long game too.

I woke up this morning wondering why I wasted two years of my life on some chick who didn't even notice my absence when I finally cut her off until about a month later. Literally every relationship I've had since her has been miles better. It seems trite and it cliche but eventually you'll reach the point where you can remember the good times and not get sad, and the bad times and not get angry. Besides nothing is ever truly a negative experience as long as you learned something from it. Keep on friend :)
