- Before embarking on your trip, prepare yourself by learning about tourist scams common in popular destinations. Travel is amazing, but the experience can be ruined if you are scammed out of your money or possessions. Unfortunately travel scammers are everywhere, but if you are aware of these scams you can more easily prevent yourself from becoming a victim. If you travel often you’ll likely fall victim eventually but it’s better to not be an easy target.

Many of these scams are and should be a concern not only for tourists but for basically everyone cause the scammers target anyone who’s naive enough not only tourists.

I have seen a few of the scams you mentioned. The character photo one - I saw that in Portugal. There was a guy dressed like a Roman Centurion and he didn't want anyone taking a photo (like at a distance) without paying him for it. The knockoffs, the bracelets - I've seen that in Paris, Rome, etc. Another scam I saw primarily in Florence is the artwork on the street. These "artists" put their artworks on the ground and if you happen to step on them, you will have to pay and exorbitant price. They usually set up shop around the Cathedral. I also swear by PacSafe! I am glad you mentioned the fake menus and the phone call to the room regarding needing your CC number. I've never experienced either of those, but it's good to be aware. Thanks for this video.

Great video! Would add that when it comes to children, know they can be part of the scam (cause people won't expect this). Children can be used as the distraction, or they do the stealing part, and there is the "lost child" scam. As someone mentioned in the chat, there really is no limit to how far people are willing to go when it comes to scamming others, unfortunately...

Pedi cab scam happened to my boy and I in Paris. Was a fun ride but not worth the 180 euros! Still a memorable story :) Keep up the great work brotha! YP4L!

More specific to tours than hotels but 3rd party aggregator type websites lately have been known for selling more tickets than there are seats available. Makes for a big mess for the operator. One of many reasons I only sell direct right now.

The photo one happened to me in Rome 20 years ago. In front of the Colosseum there were people dressed up in gladiator costumes offering to take pictures and then asking for a tip. My friend and I just said no and walked away.

So here's the deal with the mc Donald's ice cream machine for anyone who doesn't know😅... so every night the ice cream machine has to be broke down and cleaned completely for the next day... workers tend to either not use the machine at all and claim it's broke so they don't have to clean it that day, or they break it down and clean it earlier in evening to get out quicker after close

Regarding the Disney cruise. We have cruised many times with MSC, Royal Caribbean and Costa, these are all probably same level with Norwegian and Carnival. Disney is much better, plus your daughter will love the characters, and it will also bring the inner child in you. We enjoyed it very much!!

I have never seen the appeal of AIrBNB… especially with all he rules and nanny notes owners leave, I shouldn't have to video a property to protect myself from owners scamming me.

It's really sad but scammers will steal your phone after offering to take your picture. When we travel I offer to photograph strangers all the time. Then they reciprocate. Better than a selfie.

Yes I had the taxi scam in San Francisco, the driver didn’t turn on the meter and kept making excuses 😫
A variation of the pickpocket spilling scenario happened to a friend of ours in Buenos Aires, and requires at least two people. One person squirts the victim with mustard, the second person says oh my gosh, a bird just crapped on your jacket/shirt, let me help you clean it off, and the first person (or a third person) grabs the wallet while the victim is distracted.

2018 St Thomas .. we fell for the “this place is closed” trap however the aquarium actually was closed due to hurricane aftermath. Open sided taxi bus driver was waiting and offered a personal tour around the island. We took her up on it and ended up having a good tour, good food ( but we couldn’t buy the Jonny cakes without buying the fish-so we did and fish was amazing!)as well as a contact for the next day to take us to St. John ferry.
That was a terrifying high
speed back roads hair raising trip but she got us there just in time and in one piece. We were taken for a ride in more than one sense, probably taken advantage of, but it’s our most memorable story to tell about our trip to StThomas . But I’ll bet she was in cahoots with the bus driver who dropped us off at the closed aquarium. 😂

I don’t wish to crap all over air bnb. But it’s not a hotel and it’s totally unregulated.
I will say in Vienna there are ticket people on the street who do sell tickets and they are real. They dress in period costume.

It's scary to know how much scam is happening around the world. And as you mention, even at places that are supposed to be a happy place. But it's good to be careful and not to naive, which I am trying to learn not to be. I always wanna believe that people are genuine and nice and not having ulterior motive. Are you and your family going to Disney a lot this summer? I'm curious what Traveling Princess is going to react to that big place.🤗🩷
We haven't taken her to Disney yet. She still enjoys free playgrounds in parks. So we're taking advantage of the cheaper fun right now 😉
