- A thorough behind-the-scenes chronicle of Amalgamated Dynamics' design and build of the "feral" predator from the 2022 Hulu Original Film PREY. And, of course, you get to see some footage on set too.
its a shame they covered the face so much in cgi. the practical effect looked great. no clue why studios keep doing this
It’s still regarded as “new” and for me this is far superior.
I think it's for 2 reasons.
1. If anything went wrong during filming, they can digitally alter it in post-production.
2. Because it's easier to do it in CG.
The first reason can be excusable in some cases, but the second is completely unacceptable.
The range of mobility is incredible considering how much stuff is on him. Top work
Also the first predator suit where the actors head is in the neck of the suit
I noticed it twice in the movie but I think that’s because I was looking for it
I think it limited some of the performance and the gait in his stride
But still he was good
14:11 the facial movements are absolutely incredible
Great work studio ADI team, and so cool that you shared these in detail behind the scenes / making of shots - such an intricate design & build process. And seeing it coming to life must have been amazing. You can be proud!
We need you in next upcoming movie. Yautja-Engineer war where your breed being created by Engineer to use on technologically superior Yautja invaders in Engineer's desperate attempt to prevent losing the war. Your brothers and sisters will be chestbursted from facehugged Yautja after the Engineer doughnut 🍩 bomber dropped the eggs on Yautja planet.
The Predator looks better behind the scenes than he does in the movie. This is exactly why some things are better done practically than with CGI.
Flawless work ADI! It is truly inspiring to see this level of passion and dedication. I have been watching your creature and character designs on screen since i was little. I always wanted to be a film character and creature artist and your team was always my inspiration. I used to watch behind the scenes videos and making of videos just to see how practical effects were done and this brought back so much nostalgia. You guys have been veterans of both the Alien and Predator franchise for years and are still just knocking it out of the park! I absolutely love Ferals suit design and weapons, the realism is simply impressive. I look forward to more amazing work from you in the future!

I don't think the face's as perfectly proportioned on the model as in the concept art, but it looks particularly great in the dark. Truly scary.

I wish you guys made a behind the scenes videos of the early 80's movie The Day After. I'd like to see how were those mushroom clouds from the nuking were made. Even if it's a video with only photographs of the production, that's fine.

I wish the creative direction had more of a direct relationship to the '87 original design, specifically the head, which was perfect and should have been adhered to for continuity. This newer design with the big eyes, smaller forehead, etc, just isn't as iconic and mean looking as the original. However, asides from that the rest of the body design, and tech is 🔥
All FX Houses should make their own MAking of Videos like this since studios have been doing less and less....!

Some of the best creature work that has ever been captured by a lens. And yet, the vast majority was replaced by a cgi version, of the same design? So, confusing.
0:54 a predator with a bird skull mask looks awesome
Unique design as usual, very memorable. Im mostly happy that the movie did well, and was widely praised (not only in the eyes of predator enjoyers), so im sure we'll see another movie in the near future, and another chance for the great Studio ADI to deliver a great monster!
Best Predator Movie
While the predator in the original was in no way bad, it's amazing to think how much modern materials and production methods have helped in bringing about these newer visions of classic monsters.
What? The effects and design in the original are a THOUSAND times better looking/executed than any of the sequels. It was done almost 40 years ago and is miles above anything ADI has done in the last 10 years.
@@MattPerrette87 The creature design is superior in the original, which is down to Stan Winston's creative mind. However, there's no denying that the effects from the newer movies benefitted from more modern advancements at least in some respects, mainly in the wider range of movement and overall stability of the suit. If you watch some of the "making of" clips from the original Predator, the effects artists themselves admitted that a few of the design choices such was the various wires and netting on the original Predator were literally there to keep the suit from falling apart. There was even an incident where the prototype of the plasma caster basically combusted during testing and nearly blew up while it was still mounted to actor Kevin Peter Hall, which for a second made them panic as they thought that they had just killed Kevin, who was luckily unscathed. Obviously Stan Winston's original work will be hard to top, but give studio ADI their credit where it's due.

Несмотря на то, что фильм «Добыча» мне скорее не понравился, всё же признаю, что работа над хищником вы проделали просто фантастическую. Сам же он своей мордой немного похож на Берсеркера из фильма «Хищники» 2010 года, что также радует, ведь этот фильм один из моих любимых во франшизе. Правда дизайн биошлема довольно странный, особенно открытые открытые мандибулы. Вариант с концептов, где череп полностью закрывает мандибулы, как по мне, всё же лучше, особенно на 1:01.
Man the animatronic face looks so much better than what they went with in the final film. So annoying they did that.

Fascinating! How many design changes they go through before deciding on the final look. I often wonder what if they took the design one more change. I would love to be in on a team such as this. Would you guys say this was the most complicated design for a Predator head you've created so far from a sculpting and technical perspective?
Yes, the added extra knuckle on the upper mandibles plus being a super tight compacted head made it a bit more challenging
They made an absolute mistake painting CGI over this …
The behind-the-scenes looks way more ferocious then what we had on the screen 🤦♂️
This is easily the best Predator design. Yes the original is the most iconic and laid the groundwork for the others but this one just oozes badassery

Question, why does the studio slap cgi on top of a beautiful animatronic and prosthetic suit? the practical effect looks far superior.
It's a shame the face got covered in CGI, the practical face looks way better.

ADI has had numerous attempts to get a predator face right and have failed spectacularly each time. I’m guessing that’s the real reason why Feral is so different from the established look. They basically said “fuck it” and designed a knockoff.
Why does something made almost 40 years ago hold up better than something made in modern times? What’s missing???
I really enjoyed the movie and the redesigned predator isn't at all my favorite, though by far surpasses the "super predators" from Predators.
But I outright hate Shane Black's idea of predators messing with their genetics.
I'm very intrigued by the backstory to this species variant. However I will always consider this the down syndrome predator.

Incredible work. The Yautja's are one of my favourite scifi characters. Shame we never get to see their homeplanet and culture which seems so incredibly interesting after the revelations in AVP with the Mayan pyramids. We need more lore. The last Movie was terrible and i expected better from Shane Black. Greetings from Amsterdam.
