Thanks SO much for this, Doc! My triglycerides were 46, HDL 106, and A1c 4.9. My doc freaked out over the LDL of about 260 but then admitted he'd never had a patient with triglycerides of 46 and said, "you know, with HDL over 100, I'm not going to worry about this!" That was several years ago. I'm 72, no heart problems and certainly no statins! Now back to my tea and cream!

@@andrewtaylor9799 Got these numbers 5-6 years ago & haven't had cholesterol testing since. So I was about 66-67 at the time. Didn't know much about keto at all but a little about Atkins. Read Mark Sisson's book, Primal Blueprint and his website, Mark's Daily Apple. He explained the carbohydrate curve so I started tracking carbs & had been eating well over 100g/day so dropped that to 50-60. Had never heard of carnivore or any of that. Stuck to meat, eggs & veggies and swam 3-4 days week (40 minutes), walked a couple of miles, road my bike, anything I could to keep moving. I may not be keto but if I stay 50g carbs or less, I lose a little weight. Don't have much to lose so this works for me but everyone has to find how their body responds. I kept a diary for awhile and tried different foods and types of meals & recorded how I felt, energy level, etc. Didn't have a glucose meter at the time. I figured out if I ate protein and fat I wasn't so hungry and had better energy so that's mostly what I did. Now I'm a little more lenient. Maybe I shouldn't be but you realize life is too short when you hit your 70's (if not before).

Im 32 with LDL at 280. My doctor told me I was at extreme risk of cardio event. My triglycerides are at 83, HDL at 50, A1C at 5.2. She said I have familial hypercholesteremia and that I need to take statin asap, even though they might not do much to improve the situation.
After 24 hours of anxiety and panic, I found this channel. Thank you!!

My Dad has been in the hospital a few times in the last 5 years due to two brain bleeds and TIA mini strokes (not blockage). My family is well educated on nutrition and well educated on most MDs not being educated on anything but prescribing circular chemical tablets. So I like to pick the doctor's brains and let them know how we stand on drugs and nutrition and what really works that they never learned.
Seems like every time they initially do my Dad's blood work, the doctor will come in an say..."We noticed your Dad's cholesterol was like 210 and we're wondering why he is not on a statin." We basically say because statins are terrible and he's not taking them. End of story. The last time there a doctor did the same as I just said above. Then he said...."Well its just protocol. We have to ask about taking statins." Then I said...."Ok. Forget the protocol. You are a MD, what do YOU think about using statins. He said verbatim......" If it were up to me I would have statins in the drinking water." That is just a very small example of what is taking place in medical schools ran by big pharma and the grossly lack of proper care given to our relatives. It is absolutely insane and people are dieing daily from this type of horrible decision making by medical professionals. Unless it is an immediate life or death situation, do everything in your power to not be admitted in a hospital. We have to educate ourselves and stay healthy. In short, eat GODmade foods not MANufactured foods.

I am 63 yo male. 7 years ago needed a pacemaker and bypass surgery. Why? Decades of eating the food pyramid. No family history of heart disease and I exercised religiously. Was on a statin first year post op..made me feel like shit. So 6 years ago put the statins in the garbage and went HIGH HEALTHY FAT AND LOW CARB. Never felt better in my life. HA1C 5.4, HDL/trigs 3.87.
Btw, 7 years ago my cholesterol was “normal”.
No dr ever tested my fasting insulin.

I have been treated for HTN for 20 yrs, I was a healthy weight, HDL 40, total cholesterol 168 and my doctor was happy with that. I was told to "be careful because HTN and diabetes go together," but I wasn't counseled on diet or told what "be careful" meant, or referred to a dietitian. Low fat/low sodium was still the heart health diet and that is what I followed. I only recently discovered keto diet and my HDL is up to 62, triglycerides 83, cholesterol 227. My A1C was tested for the first time in my life because I requested it = 5.2. My doctor said the statin word, but I am so happy that I know better. I have been able to skip doses of Cozaar. Monitoring my blood pressure at home, it is very obvious that my blood pressure and water retention is related to carbohydrates, not sodium. What about all those people out there who have not educated themselves and trust their doctors who are not treating them correctly, giving them bad advice. . . . .I am disillusioned with our healthcare system. Thank you Dr. Cywes for helping me to be healthier and I share your videos with others.

Doctors may only order blood tests for things they can treat with drugs but they also only order tests that they will not get dinged for by the insurance companies. ETA: Very interesting to know your target levels for HDL and TGs. Much higher and respectively lower than anyone else who talks about these numbers. Usually it's above 40 for HDL and lower than 100 for TGs.

Thank you for the explanation of the lipids. I just got my blood work back after 6 mos of ketovore and 100 lbs lost and my total cholesterol is 237 due to ldl of 159. I know my PCP is going to be concerned but I want to be armed and ready for push back as you say because at my 6 mos appt with her she voiced concerned about the same and I kindly reminded her I fuel on fat not carbs and she sort of kinda understood my answer and did not insist on any prescriptions because even at that time I had already lost a substantial amont of weight since our last six month appointment in Feb 2022. Your video is very clear and I will be sharing it with my doctor for sure. Keep up the good work doctor I appreciate your efforts. I have blood tests every 3 months and some are flagged as a problem. I get called in to 'talk' about it with the practise nurses and they are worried about my cholesterol levels and get concerned when I say I'm carnivore and want me to be on a statin. I then talk to my doctor and he says no it's ok nothing to worry about and we'll see how it goes. My worry is is that these nurses create fear in patients when frankly they don't know what they are talking about. And I get really annoyed when I'm treated as though I know nothing about my health and I should just take their advice without question.

Thank you for this video! It explains in simple terms what to look at in my blood work. My doctor and I go back and forth on statins every year. He hates my LDL numbers, which are high, but not as high as what you are saying is acceptable. I keep saying no to statins as I am still trying to lose the rest of this weight I put on over the years and I need that LDL to do that. I do not worry about my LDL numbers as my A1c sits about 4.9 and my HDL is 83. I just get tired of the pill pushing that doctors do all the time for things I can correct with a healthy diet and exercise.

@Island Man Thanks. I have cut down on the fat as I have enough on my body to feed me. Cheese is coming down and I will soon eliminate it to see what it does. What I also just found out was the new BP medicine that the cardiologist put me on causes weight gain. I am gearing up for a long talk with him as he knew I was trying to lose weight and had taken off quite a bit so far. So to do that does not seem fair to me and I am waiting until I am not so angry so I can have a logical conversation.

Thanks so much for covering this topic! I just had blood work done, first time in several yrs. I'm 63 and have been keto for the last year and a half. Lost 31 lbs with maybe 10 more to go to get to ideal weight. I have been so curious to see the bloodwork numbers. All numbers on the Lipid Panel and the A1C (5.0) are in the ranges mentioned in the video. I'm so happy!😄 My ldl was above the normal acceptable lab level which increased my overall cholesterol # so it was flagged. My doctor wrote in her notes in my online chart to eat less high fat and high cholesterol foods, lol. I mentioned that I was eating keto but I'm pretty sure she wasn't that familiar with it. Looking forward to hearing more info about bloodwork from you Dr. Cywes!

HDL rose over a few years from 60 mg/dl to 84 mg/dL, and HgAlc went from 5.7% to 5.2%. It has maintained that level since. Triglycerides are 59 mg/dL. I also have Greek yogurt, some berries, and coffee with cream in the mornings.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! This is extremely helpful and it's making so much sense.
Would love to see more on these numbers and what to expect as you are in the process of losing weight and eating a cleaner keto diet.
My doctor gave me three months to see how I do after some pretty nasty lipid panel results. I've since been eating extremely clean keto and have lost over 30 lbs. I have Hashimoto's and LUPUS so this was not easy.
About halfway in the three months my doc gave me, I did my own blood work on the side and might not even share it with my doc. I needed to see if I was on the right path with keto. My triglycerides went from 281 to 99 which makes total sense now after seeing this video. I'm eating practically no carbs or sugar except for some berries now and then. VLDL went from 56 to 20. Ratio from 4.4 to 4.5. Cholesterol and non HDL Cholesterol are going down.
But my HDL went from 64 to 60. I don't get it. Why did it go down? Is this some weight loss thing or it takes a while to see that get better?
I get more blood drawn in about a month. Should be very interesting.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! Just appreciate all you do SO VERY MUCH!

Hi, Dr.Robert Cywes I liked this video and all you do, and today I loved your analogy using the example of Taxis in New York (vs Cholesterol). I asked him if he could find a way to reach more people by translating his videos into SPANISH, just like Dr. Eric Berg does, it would be a success! Thanks so much!

Thanks for an excellent explanation. I appreciate you giving your baseline values…I got a evaluation through a lipidologist. She would very much like me to be on a statin, which I am resisting. I think my markers are reflective of good fat adaption according to your info, also think I meet the markers for a lean mass hyper-responder. I do have a high LPD-P 1829…which is something I would like to understand better. It is my understanding that these are the particles that are sticky and cause issues in blood vessels. My A1C is 5.3…so I know that needs to come down a bit more, but feel I am headed in the right direction. CRP 0.4

Thanks for this. Please hurry up with the next videos 🤭. I need this info so I’m not fobbed off by my doctor telling me that my symptoms of diabetic neuropathy aren’t “covid-toe” or “ I’ve got bad feet because I’m running too much “ or the best(worst) one..”just one of those things that happen “ .

Just got my 90-day labs in for cholesterol. Things are getting better. Trigs up from 37; LDL up; HDL DOWN from 120 to 88. A1C down.1 to 5.7 fasting. In December 2013, it was over 10 and I had a staph infection (intramuscular). Only risk factor was the diabetes T2. I have now cut back 1/3 on my insulin meds, stopped my statins and stopped my anxiety meds. It’s a beautiful day in carnivore land.

my latest labs: TG = 55, HDL = 48, A1C = 5.1...TC = 180, LDL = 121, VLDL = 11. Doing LCHF (low sat fat since I'm Apoe3/4). I mentioned the word, statins, to my cardiologist, just to see how he would react, and he said "no way, your numbers are good"...guess I have a good cardio doc :)
Still trying to get my HDL to increase but it always stays between 45-55 (and that's even before I knew my Apoe status and was doing lots of sat fat on keto).

Just had labs repeated. I went more low carb briefly. It’s amazing how much the higher carbs actually affected me. I ate something “Keto” that was actually more low carb one day & it spiked my blood sugar almost 100 points. I felt like crap & threw the rest away!

@@babarumraisin4863 no. The “Keto” bread contains wheat or wheat gluten & thankfully I’m allergic to it! It was a “keto” dessert & it was the sugar alcohols/substitutes that affected me.

Thank you so much doc!!! Your videos are so full of information! If my CAC score is poor from previous damage, can that ever get better. I have completely changed my eating habits around so my other numbers that you stated are good (working on raising HDL, currently 66). Should I be worried that previous damage will cause me to have a cardiovascular event? Thank you again for educating us!

Everyone...this gentleman is correct in 'seeing' LDL as being adapted for those who eat a high fat, high Protein diet; this is "fat adaption" and the changes that effect many who make such changes; not all, but many. Look at other MD's, RNs, Ph.Ds who now concur...evaluate this man and others who are now pundants of high protein/fats.

I really love most of your videos. However, the fact is that I can read my blood work a lot better than any of my doctors so far. All my doctors try to give me statins and I keep refusing. I live in a small town and finding any doctor that can wipe his own butt is difficult. So don’t tell me not to read my own blood work.

I certainly wish my doctor knew how to properly interpret lab results….I have been following a strict keto protocol for about 20 months. When I began the protocol my A1C was 5.64. At the time of my last lab work, which was 8 months ago, I’d lost about 50 pounds…my A1C was 5.15…my Triglycerides 69…HDL was 80…LDL was 147. Since my last lab work, my total weight loss as of today 2-3-2022, is 85 pounds…!!! Based on the numbers you state in this video, I am thrilled with my results and can hardly wait to see the results of my next lab work. My doctor still insists that my cholesterol is too high…but I flat refused her recommendation to take statins; needless to say, she was not happy.
