I recently bought this same gun....thanks for the mcarbo tip, worked great....hornady 55 gr varmint express and 45 gr winchester jhp factory loads shot 3/4" groups....does bark a bit...
My ranch likes 25.5 of Varget with 55grn Vmax's, it also shoots well with H335 and W748. Another nice load is 23.5 of H322 with a 50grn Vmax. Those rifles shoot 1/2 MOA pretty easily once you find the right combo. My OAL is 2.240 for the Vmax loads. I bet CFE223 would get you where you want to be as well.
Usually I will run shit to get the cosmoline or whatever they use to get keep the barrel, before shooting but I will say Ruger and savage are making some of the best bolt guns on the market IMO. Remington has went so far down hill that I wont even build off of the NEW actions anymore. 9/10 I will find an old wore out remington rifle to build off of.
Garret real like your rifle sit up. I was a Cabelas and seen this rifle for the first time, real look nice for a plinker to care around in hills or play with a range. I been reloading my own ammo for 40 + yrs. Seeing as your group open up when you went from 25 gr to 27 gr, I would try loading some rounds at 24 gr and 24.5 gr. see what that gets you. Also I would look at a heavier gr bullet with a 1.8 twist a little heavier bullet may give you a tight group. Good luck on finding that special load. I wish you lots of fun with new rifle.
Flatlander69 thank you very much! Sorry for just now getting to your comment. The gun LOVES 73gr eld match. I didn’t get a chance to film this but I’ll have to in the future. I can get 5 of them to stack right up. They just are very slow.
Mine is a first gen in .223 Rem. Rotary magazine and not threaded on the muzzle. I got a great deal on my first 1000 of the SPEER 55 SP myself , it went quick. Too quick, now I've got about 2,500 left now. In my RAR I found the same thing a little slower is OK for them.
Hi Chuck’n you have vertical groups !! If you loosen the action screws, then press down on the Tip of the Tang, The barrel WILL ROCK UP AND DOWN 2 Inches !!!! Fix is to remove the barreled action, cut both tips off a popsicle stick, place both tips under the tip of the Tang, reinstol the barreled action and tighten down the action screws !!!! Remember, when you put the barreled action back in the stock, push the action toward the rear of the stock !! Should really help your vertical groups because barreled action can’t rock up and down !!
Suggestion..Stick with the Varget and do a ladder test. Varget is extremely flexible across various weather conditions. There's videos online on how to do it. Use the results from the ladder test to determine the right grain of powder.
Hey man th 69gr SMK is the next bullet I want to try in this gun since it ran my 69gr match loads so 8063739092974795 Would you recommend the SMK for a good yote or Wolf round??
I have the same rifle in both 556 and 350 legend. The 350L is set up as a brush gun with a Romeo 5 red dot as it's only good for about 150-200y anyway. The 556 I am undecided...Had a cheap 3-9x40AO on it but It adds a lot of weight and I just didn't like it all that much. Will be trying a 1-6 LPVO on it next to see how it does. Cheers. Great content and would really like to see how that OK pig hunt goes!
Try loading 69gr barnes matchburners. Cheap bullets with insane consistency. Ive shot 5 round groups that are one ragged hole. Never shot more than 3/4 moa with my hand loads with that bullet in this gun
Gun looks good. I'm wanting one for coyotes specifically but not sure what grain to use. The dogs in montana and oregon are decent size. Biggest one I've killed was 48lbs
Do you get better groups with the .223 or the 5.56??? Considering same grain and such, the appeal of this Ruger is the price point of this rifle and being able to feed it inexpensive ammo. The Ruger American Ranch in 5.56/.223 and 7.62x39 is a great addition to any arsenal, although I would probably lean towards the Ruger American Predator in the .223 for the longer barrel but not sure if it’s chambered for 5.56 NATO also???
Great video! I've been seeing good things regarding speer bullets. Would like to try some out when my other projects are finished. Can't wait for some more videos in the new year!
I am interested in this rifle but the one thing holding me back is that I reload subsonics (dont care about others opinions on it). 1/8 twist is kind of the border for 75 gr subs, but I suspect it will be find considering 75 gr HPBT hornadys are claimed to work with 1/9.
@@ChuckinTV 55 grs will stabilize no prob. 75 gr though are hit or miss. I had a 1/9 and 75 were border of no go. Now I got a 1/7 twist 11.5" sbr and 75 gr definitely work great.. 1/8 has me leery but I think they will work fine. I just found 85 gr bullets that will seat to AR mag length, so the insanity continues.
What brake are you using? I just put one on over the weekend and it definitely helped with muzzle rise. But the concussion is terrible lol. For a .223/5.56
Steven Carlin haha yes it increased the muzzle report to almost insane levels. Especially under the shooting hut roof. This is a cheap strike industries muzzle brake.
This was just a simple test to see if these bullets are even worth more testing. I would they did okay. A little fine tuning would definitely improve the groups.
Once again, thanks for watching. This rifle is a handy package. It is capable of very good accuracy and it shoots a very practical round. Ruger Americans by all accounts are just very nice budget rifles. We appreciate the international support.
Another great review. I just ordered one of these and can’t wait to shoot and reload for it. Do you think it will handle some of the lighter bullets, like 52 grain hollow point boat tails? I guess I can load some and find out, but any tips you can offer would be appreciated. I hope to get back to supporting you on Patreon before too long. Really enjoying the reloading content.
Thanks John. I really don't know how well this rifle would like a 52gr. Let us know if you try some. With the 1-8" twist I would maybe try 60+gr bullets first. Midway has a pretty good selection available right now surprisingly. I got some 60gr Sierra Tipped MK for the Kel Tec recently. Gotta try those sometime.
@@ChuckinTV thanks for the fast reply. I looked through my bullet stash and have some of the 55 grain Speer varmint bullets and some of the 60 grain Sierra tmk as well. I may have to wait a while to stock up on bullets but will definitely look for some heavier ones. Thanks again.

@Reel-Lentless yes I know it reduces recoil. And I bet if I mixed a mag of 5.56 and 223 you would never know the difference. And I was simply just making a funny comment lol breaks were originally intended for heavy loads with alot of recoil.
I don’t reload so do you have any recommendations for factory loads that work well in your rifle? I can usually find the .223 easier in my area. Also, I was considering a suppressor purchase. Do you have any experience with a suppressor?
No experience with suppressors. But I would highly recommend some Frontier 223 in 55gr Soft points if you can find them. Frontier makes a variety of loads, but I think any of them should shoot half way decent out of the Ruger Ranch.

Use TAC near max load with a 62gr bullet
That rifle is legal in new york? Or is it limited in magazine capacity?
It is legal. The capacity isn't an issue because it is not a semi-auto.
Where did you get the magazine? Mine came with a flush mount box mag.
This is a newer model that takes PMags.I believe they originally came out only offering the flush fit rotary mag. This came with the 10 round mag.
