    Thank you for this, I love Carole Lombard and have seen all her movies. I found the scene with William Boyd and Carole embracing and making their plans while the policeman sang, particularly touching and well acted. These early talkies were always a little awkward as the studios as well as the actors were trying to quickly adjust to what was essentially an entirely new medium. It wasn't just that sound was added, it was a completely different way of acting, directing, moving, filming, etc. Some actors adjusted and some never did. Carole moved effortlessly into sound pictures with her natural acting style and her wonderful deep voice that projected well. What a treasure she was.

    When I got my very first VCR, around 1985, this was the first movie I ever taped and watched on it. It seemed pretty old even then, even though it was only 56 years old, about the same age as the "Great Escape" is now. It was being shown on WNBC, channel 4 in NYC as their 2AM movie, and I wanted to check if I set the timer right. I still have the tape and should look at it to see how it's stood up over the years. And also to see the mid-1980's late night cheap local commercials.

    Carole Lombard was a great actress. Here she was a con. Then she was a comedic actress then a dramatic actress before she was killed in a plane crash in 1942. Her and Clark Gable were in some movies in the early 1930's. They were married in 1939. Favorite Carole Lombard Movie: Nothing Sacred 1937 with Fredric March.

    interesting . in some of theearly sound films the talking is actually more realistic than in later movies people interrupt each other or talk at the same time. I like the adlibs for the outside scenes , that had to be recorded later, too.

They learned not to leave their coats or shoes laying around though, especially in winter! My step mom would put them outside!😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I never laughed so hard as when I saw my step brother come in before school with his coat & shoes frozen solid, with ice cycles😂🤣😂👌!

    Leave it to 1929 filmmakers to have two women play in snow and ice with high heels on wearing skirts and not shivering much.
    Diane Ellis -- the kid -- who falls through the ice at one point died one year later in India. She recently married, went to India and contracted a fatal infection. She was 20 years old. A very attractive actress.

    Thank you for the young Carole Lombard in High Voltage, co-starring William (Hopalong Cassidy) Boyd. The chemistry between those two wasn't bad at all. And, yes, the hemlines were shorter in '29, only to drop as did the stock market later that year. And it was a pre-code film and early talkie.

    • @youtoo2072
      @youtoo2072 4 роки тому

      Ca role any actress can feel a lucky charm about that typo ;) as am sure Carole did! I live near the Cada Zan on the Ringling estate: its the purported honeymoon spot of her and Clark Gable's, I may be mistaking ( Bogie and BaCall were at Louis Bromfield's double staircase I think home in Ohio) if am not switching the couples' haunts. Regarding John Ringling's mansion on Sarasota Bay, iv been in "their room" several lightings, timings of year, and seasons of the enviable bay views.. Two rooms actually, a huge dark wood n emerald decored one and the light and lavender one,which I can see her easily there -nearly do in my mind/rightly in-spirit. :) Clark the emerald mahogany,surely, they stayed together both rooms all night !surely did?.. Historians anyways, or, we hopeful romantics :)

    I'm a Carole Lombard fan but this thing is a turkey. The set design was horrible with a schoolhouse on two levels and humongous doors and windows. The script was written by a 12 year old. Compared to a Chaplin film of the same era this is directed by a dolt. The only saving grace is Carole Lombard's beauty. and charisma. If you want to see a great Lombard film check out "Nothing Sacred".

      Ok, its clunky, ya it is clunky, up in was then yes built far from anywhere in reality it would be .. I was raised rural north USA in farm country on around old family/s lands untouched..my gma's lifelong home had been built in 1880 (still being lived in!) ..I realize if back in 1929 easily a log structure would hold up 80yrs up there then therefore 1850s its indeed correct and Wht proper for filming. I hardly Adjusted to this film, its correct if you keep up with Them..why heck would you 'Expect' from near 100yrs ago to supply to your later 20th/21st Century cage-raised social-engineering preprogrammed soft-where'd-gone educated-idiots' of today's world's mindset-in-concrete :/ ?! Whew! Sigh! No its not just you, its too many Not Trying ,when it Is easy to watch these If you're getting More into your eyes than gaming.. You'll get bored w graphics eventually and learn your life's other paths and meanings hopefully before die a wasted one I'm pretty certain you'll be alright ..you got here and thus you are. Sorry , was a rant for those not willing to understand what can't be changed ;)

    • @lindaours4038
      @lindaours4038 3 роки тому +3

      It was made clear in the dialogue that the building was a church, not a schoolhouse, which explains the large windows and doors, the two levels, the organ, and the pictures of Jesus on the walls (look closely in the background during the scenes inside). When first noticing the building from a distance, the characters did refer to it as "a schoolhouse," but then added "or a church" . . . they just couldn't tell which from far away. Once they got there, though, they consistently referred to it as a church; in fact, the man they found there made a joke about not realizing it was Sunday and "Why the congregation?" Anyway, the set design is just right for a depiction of a small, abandoned rural church, probably supposed to have been built in the mid to late 1800's.
