when I think of the hours, days of pleasure I’ve had listening to Steve Winwood’s music over the decades, I must say that I am very grateful. thank you, Maestro
If Steve ever released a live album, I think this performance would have to be on it. An almost 50 year old song at the time, and he delivers the vocals like he's trying to get it out as a single tomorrow. I always thought of Steve Winwood as a keyboard specialist and songwriter, but I have to throw guitar in to that list. And I don't know what the magic is that his voice hasn't changed after all this time, and I hope it doesn't.
👍HQ Fidelity Sounding Tune, the keyboards are fa nominal, Drums are the Spot, Wow PBS 88.1, nice job, so much sound... maybe it's just me, but i really enjoyed hearing the song...😂 nice one..
Crazy but George Harrison talked him into coming back basicly out of retirement and he didn't think he had anything to offer that people would want too hear and the rest is history . I personally don't think this man will ever be irrelevant musically
I worked with Steve on the High Life tour. He was a really nice guy and one of my favourite memories of the tour was Steve and his wife Eugenie would eat crew meal with us every evening. With Steve's pronounced English accent and Euginie's pronounced Nashville accent,..animated exchanges between the two could result is big laughter from their fellow diners.
@@ronfisher5259 and don't forget Gimme Some Lovin (Spenser Davis Group) written primarily and sung by Winwood reached #7 in the US in '66 and got a ton of airplay. I thought it was sung by a black guy when I heard it. When I heard the first Traffic album I could scarcely believe it was the same guy- Winwood.
There have been many artists that are classed as blue-eyed soul, but I want to include Steve Winwood in that list even though he's never cut an R&B single. Pretty much every song he's ever written has a spiritual or emotionally uplifting thread to it. His version of Why Can't We Live Together and other covers that he's done just accentuate the point.
If SW only played keyboards and sang, he’d be considered a genius musician. But he’s a dynamite guitarist on top of all that. Listen to the moods and tones! Much respect here.
Steve Winwood is a great multi instrumental talent, a great singer/songwriter and producer. I saw Steve Winwood twice live, as the opening act for Tom Petty, in Edmonton and in Calgary, in 2008, and in 2014. This was one of the encores. It was a very good 45 minute set. I'm a longtime fan. Cheers! ✌️
This is one of the most talented musicians/composers rock music has ever known. I still think he is often indirectly (or directly) overlooked when speaking of the greats.
Like the way they overlooked him in the R&R Hall of Fame induction performance when Prince stole the show. Millions and millions of views and almost no one knows he's there on the keyboards.

Steve Winwood. An unassuming proper multi talented musician with one of the best yet most underrated soul voices I’ve enjoyed since the mid 60s. Absolutely brilliant.
He’s a musical genius. A master with his voice, on keyboards and on guitar. And in addition to that he’s a very kind and friendly gentleman. I had a brief chat with him after a Zurich gig in 2014, will never forget that.
A God given talent that still has the “it” factor. Listening to him today sounds like he can still belt out those tunes with his strong vocals, a very fine guitar, as well as keyboards. I am in awe. What a gem.

My Mom bought me my first 45rpm of Gimme Some Lovin when I was about eight years old (I’m now 63 and became a huge fan of Traffic many years later), had no idea @ the time who Steve Winwood was or the Spencer Davis Group etc etc all I knew is I loved that track, especially because it was all over AM radio @ the time … anywho I learned very quickly that sweltering hot summer day… in probably 1966… that you not suppose to leave a Vinyl record on the dashboard of an automobile… because when my dear sweet Mom and I came out from getting a burger n chocolate “frappe”… that record had virtually melted into a shape still yet to be invented. I immediately had my own “meltdown” of sorts, so Mom realizing it was a complete accident… went back into the local record store an purchased me another one and lit up my world again for the third time that particular day . G-d bless you Mom… and Steve Winwood… for giving me some lovin… everyday !!!
I've been a Steve Winwood fan for 50 years. I don't think he's gotten the praise he deserves. John Barleycorn Must Die was my introduction to this great artist. This was loaned to me from a boy named Sam in return for me to get a girl to go out with him. Well the girl said "no" but I never returned the LP. I'm sorry about that Sam but I can reach for it in times like this to calm me. Cheers Mr. Winwood. You're the best medicine I can take as I face abnormal brain CTs due to having barely survived covid.
In my Graduating year of high school the last major assignment was a multi-media presentation for each student. The only media was a record player, the John Barleycorn Must Die album and notes on an overhead about the British historical information that was used to write the album. My English teacher loved it which I could tell by the smile on his face long before the presentation was over. I received an A Plus for the presentation which was the only time I ever got an A+ in high school. I did not find the assignment difficult - it was fun to do. I saw Winwood a few years earlier, in 1969, at a Blind Faith concert in Toronto. I paid $3.50 for my ticket because I couldn't afford $5.00 for the expensive seats. (lol)
5/31/94 randomly checked into Reno Hilton, opened curtains and there he was performing on stage! Best seats in house! Wow! Great after wedding entertainment! Love you Bobby!
