As for the modern waves of it, Goth has had a huge revival from the early 2010s onward with bands like She Past Away, Drab Majesty, Lebanon Hanover, The Soft Moon, Soft Kill, Cold Cave, Actors, and Boy Harsher. Plus, the late 2010s-early 2020s has seen tons of solid bands carrying the torch for the genre such as Twin Tribes, Harsh Symmetry, French Police, House of Harm, Vandal Moon, Vision Video, and Male Tears. It's a good time to be a goth.
This is well done as usual, I really appreciate you including that clip of Rozz Williams, he really doesn't get enough credit as the godfather of Death Rock
100% a lot of 60's psychedelia adopts darker soundscapes and aesthetics, I believe there is a critic who referred to the doors at the time as goth rock and a lot of the gothic rock bands dabbled in neo Psychedelia, take kaleidoscope and a kiss in the dreamhouse by Siouxsie and the Banshees.
@@agonzalez7095 yeah i feel like the use of psychedelic sounds + dark atmospheres instantly bring me that dystopian sound that can feel very despondant and futuristic or very acid and gothic
Another prerequisite for the goth subculture, in the 80’s was to fervently deny that you were part of it so if anyone asked you, if you were a goth just say no, even though you obviously are 😂😂😂
I'm both and a Metalhead. I've been listening to Goth Rock and Metal for 15 years. Darkwave, Deathrock and Coldwave are my favorite Goth subgenres with Bauhaus and She Past Away being two of my favorite Goth bands.
I still think It's amusing that Andrew Eldritch of Sisters of Mercy fame refuses to even TYPE the word Goth even if It's undeniably Goth's who put food on his table.
Idk if it’s worth mentioning or not, since it’s more akin to Shock Rock/Psychobilly, but Screamin’ Jay Hawkins was also a pretty Big influence on what would later become Goth Rock. He became prevalent around the late 1950s, when he wrote the hit “I Put a Spell on You” (as well as other Jazz/blues song that had more Macabre-leaning lyrics). On Stage, he was known to perform with Skeleton props, appear out of Coffins, dress eccentrically and was rumoured to practice Voodoo (and he also carried around a skull named Henry). Without his influence, we probably wouldn’t have any of today’s Big Names such as Alice Cooper, the Cramps, Black Sabbath, Creedence Clearwater, Led Zepplin, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Arthur Brown, Screaming Lord Sutch, or even characters like Oogie Boogie - or the hell, Anyone really that has dabbled in Shock Rock, Horror Punk or Goth Rock (including those mentioned in this video). Anyways, Have fun with this knowledge and thanks for the video - it was thoroughly Offensive and I’ll be sure to recommend it to others🤘
@@paulcollins5586 Respect that you know of them, they're also wicked good! However I think Sisters got more people into the goth subgenre and they're wicked influential, no hate to The Nephilim they're sick

Also, I feel like you should have mentioned other 80s goth rock bands such as The Mission (founded by former members of The Sisters of Mercy, Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams) and Fields of the Nephilim. There are also some nice 90s goth rock bands, like Corpus Delicti, Rosetta Stone, and Mephisto Walz. There are other goth genres such as deathrock (American counterpart). Bands include Christian Death, 45 Grave, Voodoo Church, Kommunity FK, and Superheroines. Darkwave (goth but with more synthesizers), bands include Clan of Xymox, London After Midnight, and Switchblade Symphony. Ethereal wave is similar to darkwave, but more ethereal and otherworldly, Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance pioneered this genre.

I want to point out that the alleged Doors connection consists of _one_ live review in which the writer happened to use the word "gothic" once. It was about 15 years before the goth movement was so named, so there is _zero_ connection between the two, beyond the fact that a few (not many) musicians described as goth liked the Doors.
