So what do you think of the Swiss scenery? It was pretty relaxing to spend all day watching it go by. Thanks so much to those of you who enjoyed the video, and to those who were able to donate to Germany's flood relief effort (www.drk.de/en/). The Italian translation is also a joke, I added it myself for a laugh :)
Hi Tom Thank you so much for a great video bringing back wonderful memories of a month long Xmas trip around Switzerland by train in 2007. My late husband was in a short remission from cancer and I am so grateful he got to see that stunning country. We had a Swiss Pass and zipped about on trains so easily! Rather more rail options in Europe than here in NZ!!! On a dreary day (like you had) in Interlaken we hopped on a train to Luzern just to fill an afternoon with sightseeing in comfort, bought a pot of yoghurt for the next days breakfast plus a hot takeout and took the next train back. Craziest grocery run we'd ever done... It was dark on the way back but we could see everyone's Xmas lights in the houses beside the rail tracks! Travelling by train in Dec-Jan in Switzerland is like travelling in a Xmas card. I hope to return one day to see the scenery in summer. Keep up the great work. I look forward to everything you post. Thank you. :-)
Wow, I am in love with your videos. Discovered them yesterday and have been binge watching. Sitting in a desert town in California and feeling like I have traveled to Switzerland, priceless :)
I like your channel Tom. You are an honest guy doing what he loves and sharing the world with others that may not be in a position to travel. It’s a breath of fresh air in today’s crazy world and I hope you can keep doing this as long as you wish! Stay safe
Great job looks amazing is Switzerland gorgeous sites love how do it on a budget thank you for showing us . Also heard water is so fresh they have big fountains all over .
i really loved this video! the music, the cinematography, your chill vibes, so perfect and honestly inspiring!! and now i can’t wait to visit switzerland solo someday!!! thank you for this, really made my day :)
I love your videos. The pace, your commentary, the music. I find it interesting and relaxing at the same time. I have been to Switzerland a couple of times-it is all so utterly beautiful. Thank you for posting this vid-like a little gift to start my weekend. Cheers.
Wow it'd amazing that woman's all the way from Sylt. It's a small island on the tip of Germany, it's so remote! I live in the north as well and have been there it's beautiful.
I had never heard of Sylt and really wasn’t sure what she was saying :) my German friend told me what it was. Amazing that it has a population of 15k and I met someone from there!
@@thornton It's really nice there you can drive by train right on the island via the Hindenburgdamm. But The other Islands in that Region like Amrum and Föhr are much nicer in my personal opinion. Also very easy to access by train and ferry.
Tom, this is another amazing video. I'm an American and have been to Switzerland a few years back with my family and absolutely fell in love with it. The culture, beautiful scenery, and overall efficiency was pretty magical. I'd love to go back but the cost of getting there in the first place is tough (not to mention COVID). I'd love to go back and visit soon, this video helped me feel like I was there all over again, so thank you for sharing!
Tom - Wonderful vlog. I will watch it again tomorrow, to give you my blow by blow about it, but it is morning now and I should have been asleep long ago. Excellent job, all around.
So beautiful! I just love your channel, Tom. Your videos are such a zen vibe. 😎 I hope you decide to up your budget to 150 next time so you don’t have to eat stale pretzels. 😂 One of the biggest joys of travel for me is the food, especially if there are yummy baked goods involved.
The 'Italian' subtitles were *chef's kiss* English humor. Liam also packed dried fruit (including apricots) and nuts when we did our last daytrip to Zurich. haha. Living on the border w CH btw is a damn good tip. Loved living in (and later vacationing in) Feldkirch (AT) as it is/was perfect for little Swiss adventures.
Thank you Tom for another brilliant video - so well produced and very entertaining. I love your style of travel. Looking forward to seeing more in the future.
I loved "going with you." You made me miss Switzerland, I think it is my favorite place I've visited, and it has been about 35 years since I've been there. I kind of like your idea of taking the local trains, as you showed that rather than just passing through, you can stop in the various cities along the rail and really see them, and get a feel for them. It is, to me, part of what I liked about Switzerland, how each city had its own unique "feel." I look forward to "Part 2."
Thanks for the fun video! How weird to hear what other people say when they think you don't understand the language. Did you have an impulse to say "danke" to the one who said you were handsome? And here we got the context of the time you met Kara and Nate, which now we find delayed your hike so that it wouldn't have been safe to go. But totally worth it, to have met them and have a picture! That mountain will always be there. Cheers, and looking forward to your next two train days.
What stunning scenery! So lovely to see you appreciate with such passion some of the wonders of our small planet. And very touched by your appeal on behalf of the German Red Cross.
Through work, I had the opportunity to spend a fair amount of time in Zurich, Lucerne, and Zug, and loved every moment. I generally stayed in Lucerne, and on weekends rented a bike to ride around the lake, or took the water taxi to the funicular to Mount Pilatus for hiking, etc. I joined a Zurich hiking meetup group and did a couple of hikes (generally with other visitors). Zug is more of a business center, but I enjoyed hiking in the hills above the city, among the cattle. I found Lucerne to be very walkable and charming, and timed my visit such that I got to attend a concert there by Andreas Vollenweider. 20:20 Love your music selection Tom, thanks for refreshing those very pleasant memories.
Really interesting and fascinating video about Switzerland, somewhere I'm yet to explore properly. Some great tips about the trains too and you've inspired me to go there when I finish my Eastern European trip next month! Also, I'd be as excited to meet Kara and Nate 🤗 Great video Tom! 👍🏻
Very nice views! Beautiful part of the world. Glad you got out, maybe next time feel free to spend a little more money on local food haha. Thanks for posting!
Wow first, I would love to travel with you!! And second I strongly recommend visiting Regensburg in Germany, is a beautiful little city. Keep up with the good work Tom!:))
Thanks for putting these videos together, love the relaxing vibe of your channel. I'm heading to Switzerland in 2 days, we rented an RV for a week to see the country. Planning on taking the train from Interlaken to Zermatt, and stopping in Appenzell. If you're up for having a coffee, let me know! Cheers from California!
Tip: Buy your food in supermarkets and make nice little picnics. The foid is not dirt cheap.line in Germaby but it is of a very high quality. There are a lot of lovely places where you can stay for free and eat outside ( at least during thw summer abd early autumn) we did this when we were in Switzerland

It's a nice fealing seeing someone being amazed of the view I see every morning going to work. Great vid mate. Still sad you didn't visit Grindelwald tho:(
La belle Suisse -- one of the most beautiful places on Earth. This video brought back memories. Sometime you should go back to the Bernese Oberland and go up to Grindelwald (or maybe even higher). Not sure if anything there would fit your aimed-at budget, but the views around there are really worth it.
Wow, great video Tom! Takes me back to my own interrailtrip, we also went past Switzerland. We did do the Bernina Express, and the weather was just like you, cloudy, misty. But it was still so beautiful. Love to come back there and do another route, hopefully the weather will be better
Ahh mate, your style is just amazing. Every shot is so on point throughout, the music is perfect and your commentary is great. On a side note - the baked goods looked delicious haha! Can't believe you managed a whole weekend on £100 in Switzerland! Hope you do some more of these travel vids in the future. You should set up a Patreon, I reckon peeps would be into it. *Sends meme of fry with cash in hand*
Thank you! It’s sad that you can’t leave, but in the mean time at least you’re in australia! 😅 We loved our time there and I have a few videos about it too. Would love to go back to freo and melb’n in particular :)
For your next visit. If you stay in Lausanne, you will receive a free public transportation card for the city for the duration of your stay. And another tip: if you go to farmer's market, prices are cheaper than in supermarket for seasonal an local fruits and vegetables, almost everywhere in Switzerland (but Geneva and Zurich where you have to know where to buy because the farmer's markets are fancy).
I'm being stared at all the time and I'm German. It's SO rude! Lovely video again of course, thanks for sharing it with us. The choice of music again was brilliant. I really want to take these trains too, been wanting to visit Switzerland for such a long time. What documents do they require you to take to cross the border?
I spent a week in Switzerland during the 2018 World Cup. It seemed like there were people out cheering and making noise during and after every game, no matter who was playing. Kind of weird, and more than a little annoying. The Swiss scenery is so gorgeous. What stuck with me most was how intensely blue the sky and the water always were on a sunny day. (You may have to go back again sometime when the weather's nicer....)
Thanks for the video. It was interesting, if also a bit sad, as the weather didn't support your hiking wish. (You made the right call NOT to do the hike, BTW!) When your main focus in life is money and how to save it, you WILL miss out on many spectacular things. Why not just save up your money for two more weeks and then do the trip AND enjoy the ammenities that are built and provided for maximizing your travel pleasure, and you can increase the experience? The whole hyper-focus on money and doing everything on a ultra-tight budget is a very odd concept for some of us, but of course it's fine as well. I'd personally just save a bit more and thus do a few things less in life, but do those I choose properly, rather than only half-baked. I think it's more of a Swiss cultural aspect, not right or wrong issue. But being able to take a cable car, rent a bike, go hiking, get a nice Swiss dinner, etc. when you only have two days in the country is much better (at least in my book). If you only get to Switzerland once in your life, do you really think in ten years you'll be proudest for the things you decided you DIDN'T want to do, just to maintain the tightest financial budget, or don't you think you'll probably remember the things you WANTED to do but didn't want to afford? Like I said, I'm not criticizing, just raising an alternative viewpoint. Good travels!
There's a Flixbus to Zurich from KN that is only 15-20 euros round trip depending on which one you get :). From Dobele parking to somewhere very close to the train station in ZH.
Great Video Tom! Thank you. May I suggest to do a similar tour in Germany. The Deutsche Bahn has an amazing offer, such as the Queer durchs Land Tickets for 42 € ( every additional person only 7€ extra), or if don’t want to go that far the Baden Würtenberg Ticket for 22€ Eur 😊I am sure I am not the only one that would like to another train ride video.🚅
That’s a great idea! I had seen the BW ticket and thought I would do something in Schwarzwald in autumn. I hadn’t heard of the other ticket so thanks a lot for mentioning it 😊😊 Really glad that you enjoyed the video!
@@thornton The trick with the additional person is actually quite need. Other people ( subscribers?) can ride with you a portion if the journey and you can listen to their story. I was curious and just looked it up, you could theoretically travel from Konstanz to Kiel for just 42€ ( switching 8 times to get some excitement;) ) Or you play it save and just go to Hamburg instead and I will give you a tour through the city 🤓
Next time take Huel Black with you. Cheap and completely nutritionally balanced. Also, it's vegan. Just eating bread and dried fruit isn't good for you. Inspiring videos btw. I think I may travel across France, Germany and down to Italy next spring 🤗😍
Interrail indeed is a very nice system! I believe there are even some extra advantages in Switzerland, discounts on some private train companies in the high mountains and also drive for free in Zürich on the S Bahn. Also some of the ferry's in the big lakes in Switzerland give a 50% discount on their fares, which can be nice (of course on official travel days of your pass). And in most youth hostels you also get a discount. Did that apply in the hotel you stayed in as well?
Thanks for the tips! Yes, there’s a lot of places to use the pass and it’s worth looking up the full list 🇨🇭😍 I think I got a super last-minute deal on an empty room, I think it was also just before American tourists were allowed back? So I got really lucky on the price but didn’t use the pass to secure it.
1:05 - OMG I'm so glad someone else thinks the same!! Germans stare SO. MUCH. I've spent a lot of time there and even lived there for a year and a half and I never got used to it. Other than that, I really enjoy how calming your videos are. So lovely!
Love your videos, but one small request are you able to add subtitles that you click on/off the CC button at the bottom of the video. would really make a big difference for us , thank you
Hi Dean, thanks for bringing this up. I appreciate this concern and will definitely look in to it. Can I ask, do I need to also do the parts where I have baked in subtitles? Or will also doing those parts make it a mess for you?
@@thornton Hello Tom. I have seen on other videos we watch where the subtitles move up not to block whats been added at the bottom and move back down after its gone.so might do the same when you add your subtitles, my partner sometimes finds it hard to hear every word on a video so being able to turn on the subtitles really helps to keep up with every word. its great that you already think about this when the back ground noise gets loud.
Hey Tom, I saw in one of your earlier videos you said you were a software developer. Do you ever try to work while on the road for long stretches of time. I'm in the same boat and couldn't imagine myself taking off a ton of time from work. If you do work on the road, how do you manage it? Do you find internet in random cafes?
Glad the floods did not reach you. 2,000 m you can get acute altitude sickness. Some people, like me, get swollen fingers and a stuffy head well under 2,000.
So what do you think of the Swiss scenery? It was pretty relaxing to spend all day watching it go by. Thanks so much to those of you who enjoyed the video, and to those who were able to donate to Germany's flood relief effort (www.drk.de/en/). Yes, there’s a lot of places to use the pass and it’s worth looking up the full list 🇨🇭😍 I think I got a super last-minute deal on an empty room, I think it was also just before American tourists were allowed back? So I got really lucky on the price but didn’t use the pass to secure it.
1:46 You're so german that you said half-eight (halb acht) 😂
1:05 - OMG I'm so glad someone else thinks the same!! Germans stare SO. MUCH. I've spent a lot of time there and even lived there for a year and a half and I never got used to it.
Other than that, I really enjoy how calming your videos are. So lovely!
That dude that walked past!!!😂
I think a new thumbnail and title might do wonders for this video tom, it deserves more views!
Next time you should visit Basel!
I was actually briefly there once last year, would love to visit properly!
Please go back in the winter. ❄
Thanks for the feedback, I’ll definitely take a look at doing this. 😊
@@thornton Thank you
handsome tho
Hey Tom,
I saw in one of your earlier videos you said you were a software developer. Do you ever try to work while on the road for long stretches of time. I'm in the same boat and couldn't imagine myself taking off a ton of time from work. If you do work on the road, how do you manage it? Do you find internet in random cafes?
plz release the soundtracks u used its so gooodd what
Your entire journey is accidentally Wes Anderson
Glad the floods did not reach you. 2,000 m you can get acute altitude sickness. Some people, like me, get swollen fingers and a stuffy head well under 2,000.
Switzerland is beautiful, but I would want to experience the food and culture and won't do a budget/cheap trip to such a beautiful country.
I just wrote the same thing above, without first reading your comment. So true, though!
Next time go to Poschiavo
Is this on the Bernina line? If so, there could be a trip like that soon... 👀👀
Budget and Swiss in the same sentence? What?
I know! I am still very proud 😊😊 even if I bent the rules...
Where exactly are you from? Having a hard time pin pointing your dialect.
Where are your girlfriend
Do you have a job? Income?
I am a bit ignorant about UA-cam stuff so please excuse my ignorance. May I ask if you had a camera operator with you? I assume you did.
No, solo travel and one of those flexible tripods. When they are traveling together, they might film each other.
