- The Mustang at 50 is a documentary film which looks at the ambitious twin city 50th anniversary celebration for the Mustang. Ford along with the Mustang Clubs of America planned and organized two, week-long events that celebrated the fifth decade of the original Pony car.
Thousands and thousands of Mustangs took to US roads joining one of two caravans departing from the center of the country. Mustang owners from all over the US and from all over the world headed West for the event in Las Vegas, at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway or East for the event in Charlotte, at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Mustang at 50 primarily focuses on the proceedings that took place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and the more importantly the people that participated in the celebration.
The five day celebration featured Mustang designers and key executives who played a part in the success of the American Muscle Car. Automotive superstars Gale Halderman, Jack Telnack, Neil Ressler and Art Hyde spoke to capacity audiences. They told little known and behind the scenes stories about the Mustang. Each fielded questions, took pictures with enthusiasts and signed autographs.
Other attractions included Mustang centric vendors, track laps, Ford product ride and drives, thousands of Stangs on display, cruises and much more. Ford had every Mustang on display including the very first Mustang produced and the first Mustang ever sold. The sixth generation 2015 Mustang was on display along with the 50th anniversary edition of the 2015 Mustang.
Mustang owners from the US, Brazil, New Zealand, Great Brittan, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium among others were all in Charlotte. Sadly the Brazilian delegation lost a dear friend during their visit. Alan Sommer suffered a brain aneurism and passed while here. The Mustang Club of Brazil gives a heartfelt thank you to Alan at the end of the video.
The Mustang has reached a very impressive milestone and now Ford looks towards its sixth decade. In reaching this mark, the Mustang has touched many buyers, enthusiasts and admirers. Are you one of them? If so, tell us your Mustang story in the comment below.

I don’t know how I just found this but excellent job. I was brought home as a newborn in a Mustang, my first drive at 16 was in a Mustang, and someday my last will be too. I was at the 40th celebration in Nashville and then the 50th and 55th in Charlotte. This past summer my nephew and I made the 9 hour drive to Detroit and got pics of my GTCS at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant, Ford headquarters in Dearborn, and the Romeo Engine Plant that built the 4.6 under the hood. I bleed Ford blue. God Bless Detroit!!!
I bought a brand new 1986 Mustang GT just like 5:17 same colors, drove it cross country & all over the country, man I just loved that car!
Cool video. 50 Happens Once (That's a cool slogan!)
The Mustang rolling with the horse was cool as a starting video. (The story of the sky-blue convertible was cool too.)
Words can't express how much I enjoyed this. I just bought my first Mustang on April 17th 2014. Seemed like a good day to pull the trigger :) I'll have to wait til 60 to make the trip.
Great work! The people are what makes Mustang special. You captured it very well.
I loved hearing the stories from all of these people. The interview with Roush was super cool too. Thanks for posting this!!
