This is an outstanding porch swing, Shara. Porch swings are a great home option, but this one is especially nice because you can actually stretch out and take a nap. What a creative idea.
This is a large, but definitely easy project! And such a great place to hang out in the summer...I just wish it was at my house and not my friend's house haha
You are constantly surprising me on the things you build. I never quite know what to expect. I use to sit on a porch swing a lot and I was always afraid it would break. Your construction appears much more solid. I've wondered about your use of pocket holes, but in this case they appear entirely appropriate for the task at hand, and overall your construction appears really solid and well thought out. I'd say you hit this one out of the park. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much! I'm glad I can keep you guessing...I guess haha. I know there is a lot of hate about pocket holes. I get it, but then again, I don't. I've always found them to be PLENTY strong for the application to keep things as practical as possible. This was definitely not as detailed or "nice" as some of my furniture pieces, so it was easy to just screw together with big screws and call it good. it's definitely solid. Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching.
I built my first two bed swings this past month for customers, and I like your design. The vertical slats are a nice change up from the horizontal ones I’ve used. Most of all, that rope kit is amazing! I have been buying 100 feet of rope and cutting it as needed, and tying the knot at the ceiling is not fun. This solution is much, much better. Thanks for sharing it!
Porch swings are a popular project this year! Also, yes this rope kit was surprisingly easy. I really expected it to be a hassle to adjust the heights but nope, five minutes max and we had the whole thing leveled out.
Just saw your interview with Steve Ramsey and had to immediately check out your channel!....and subbed! You'll be at 100k before you know it! Love to content and presentation.
I like the versatility of this build. Great design that can be kept in smaller versions or hung under a pergola if you don't have porch. That fits so perfect on that porch but that is no surprise since you built it!
Yes, so versatile! You could even use it as an actual bed if you wanted. Maybe for a kid since a twin is pretty small haha. So glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks so much for watching!

Hi Shara I have plans to make one of my own. Yours is beautiful! I do have a question that I haven't been able to find the answer to. How did you locate the rafters? Do you have to remove the soffit? Please tell me there is an easy way! 😁💚
Hi! So in this case, we just went up to the attic and measured their locations in relation to the wall then transferred those measurements down below to hang it. You may can try using a stud finder if you can’t access the attic (not 100% sure, but I’d think that would work as well)
Thank you for this video. I want to build this for my wife’s she shed. But I’m curious about the weight. Do you know about how much it weighs. Thank you
Hi shara, I know this is random but I have watched a few of your videos in the process of starting a small buisness making some large but mostly small wooden stuff and I love the stuff you have made. I just want to know how you started with your wood projects? I just don’t know where to begin!!😩 it’s overwhelming when I see so many things out there and large stuff. Also have you ever made a bird aviary. I’m wanting to build an aviary in my back yard for my larger parrots but I don’t see a whole lot of ideas and if I find one they look not so good. If you were to make one how would you make an affordable but super cute aviary for parrots to spread their wings and get some sun? I just like a lot of your ideas better than others😊
Love this build but how do I go about installing this build on a concrete ceiling? Would appreciate the feedback and what may be the max weight of a person for the build
I almost expected to see sleigh bed ends on it. I might even do that. And run the hanging cables through holes in the rounded part of the sleigh ends. Maybe not so high like a conventional sleigh bed headboard but lower, so they could be arm rests.
I didn’t test it to failure as I didn’t want to make a new one. The eye screws were rated for 250 each so theoretically they should hold 1000 ish pounds total if evenly distributed across the bed. But much will depend on the wood used, the material it’s screwed into, the condition of the wood used for the swing (cracks, knots, wood type). There are many factors.
I have an old elementary school style (heavy duty cast iron piping) swingset. What was the approximate weight of this? I'm wondering if I hung it from chains if it would work/be strong enough.
New subscriber. I've been viewing your videos for a while now. I especially like the bedroom storage unit with the quilted top you built. A suggestion: invest in a remote mic for when you're not narrating over your videos. Your voice does come over well in most instances, but as someone with a mild to moderate hearing deficiency, sometimes background wind noise, shop noise or echoes do make it more difficult to pick up what you're saying.
