    Excellent. You seem like you know what you are doing. I am clueless and cannot find the answer to this basic question. Suppose I want the hinge side of the chest lid to have a 2 inch overhang instead of being flush with the end of the chest as you did here. Would this type of piano hinge still work if you slid the lid under the chest by 2 inches and drilled the pilot holes 2 inches from the lid edge? I don’t need to go past 90 degrees.
    Thanks for any help..........R

      It should still work, but as you noted, it wouldn't go past 90 degrees. Just make sure the hinge pin is hanging off the back edge of the chest side.

      samlol23, I want to do the same thing so I’m curious about whether that worked for you. Thanks.

    great quality work, one thing i would have done is used a different hinge so it was more discreet

      Agreed. There are many options when it comes to hinges. I was going for low cost with this project.

    Is there a way to make the hinge invisible on the backside?

      I'm sure some company out there has created a hidden hinge. I don't know off of the top of my head without doing a bunch of research.

      @@stephencraig8578 I got it to look nice. Only 1/8 of the hinge shows. I mortised out one side.

      @@InsaneOil Is this the only way to install a hinge on a bench/trunk? I want a hinge on my storage bench but don't really want the hinge sticking out the back so I can have the bench flush against the wall is this possible?

    • @InsaneOil
      @InsaneOil  5 років тому

      @@chatteyj They sell all different types of hinges. There should be one available that doesn't stick out. However, the one shown in the video needs to hang over.

    Hinge is backwards. Screw goes on a beveled hole.

    • @InsaneOil
      @InsaneOil  Рік тому

      The hinge doesn’t fold the other direction.

    Are you a shop teacher? You speak like an instructor of children. Regardless, nice video.

      Yes, I am a high school shop teacher...perhaps one of the most exciting shop teachers on UA-cam.
