I prefer the brighter 312. Seems like the most versatile of the three that could please both Taylor and Martin fans and lend itself to almost any genre of music and playing style.

I got myself a 612ce for my birthday this year and I honestly love it so much!! For me, the best guitar for finger-style I've ever played and was exactly what I was looking for to suit my playing

Agree with many here that the 612 sounded the best in both strumming and fingerstyle. I’ve had a 614ce for only 4 months and already I feel it’s sound beginning to open up, especially the bass strings. Whatever Andy’s doing to the Big Leaf Maple, keep it up!

When I take my GC3E Taylor to open mic night, other Taylor owners come up to me and comment on the bright tight sound. Most have GA’s. I love my 314ce for the full body sound and play it more at home. My next Taylor will be a GCce.

412 is best. I have an X-braced 412e-R and love it, and I liked as a V-brace too. Not a big fan of maple sound. The 312 opened my eyes and ears. Really tremendous sound. I fingerpick, so my reactions are based on the fingerpicked vignettes. Thank you for not plugging in.

Enchanting Taylors all….in this shoot out, for me, the 312ce hit the sweet spot.
Still love my 412ce Nylon though…..

In this video, the differences are very very subtle. Having them in your hands is a whole other thing. Like a lot of the comments, I too, preferred the 612. It has better projection and the crisp tone of the maple really stands out. The 412 and 312 are nice, but they didn't seem to have the articulation of the 612, and both seemed a little bass heavy for me

As i just recently bought the 312, i might be biased, but i liked it better for fingerstyle. Strumming the 612 probably.

I have the 612 ce 12 fret. It far surpasses anything else I have had sound wise. I think the Toric treated top and V bracing add projection and depth to the sound. But in the end its all personal. They each have different nuances.

I liked the maple when he strummed and the sapele when he fingerpicked. Of course I wasn’t holding any of them, I think that all three sounded superb. If I were to invest in a couple of Taylor Acoustics, I would have to spend a couple of days at least at an outlet going through the different types/sizes, then I might get a couple of models decided upon, and then, finally, I would narrow down the wood decision. You know, the same combination of wood may not always work to it’s greatest potential across the line, so they might not offer the tone woods together in the model you want. Either way, it would be awesome to take a jamming buddy on a semi-holiday and go buy some guitars that will only get better and better (barring anything unfortunate) until new die. I’ve played a couple different Taylors in my life. One brand new and one that was eight years old. Not side by side mind you, but during the same 18 months (this was prior to the V-bracing was invented/discovered by their own master luthier, and both guitars were “heirloom-grade” instruments. I just changed the strings for the owners and had a bit of time to play each of them and I was impressed. I would have a hard time leaving them at home in the studio, and go do gigs without them. But I’d be afraid that someone would steal them. Like someone just blatantly abusing their authority, lol. Idk, they probably have a few that would be nice enough to take on the road and play easy and sound good but not cost too much to replace if stolen. But for recording, you might as well get the one(two[three]) that you’re going to use forever. I’m sure you’ll get to a point where the nuance of the instrument is greater than that of the recording software, so it’s just what you feel is going to suit you and quench your appetite for nice sh!t. I think we owe it to future generations to support these guys that are going out of their way to secure the sustainability of the resources need to build all these instruments that are dependent on wood. There’s other companies that are of the same view as Taylor and more and more companies are coming around, but these guys are at the forefront, meaning they are putting the bulk of the money up to ultimately benefit the entire industry. I think the world needs China to come around and help us out and not undo the work that is being done by these companies.

The 612 sounded best to me. Really loved quickness and articulation of the notes even though I know that is a good percentage due to how the player approaches the guitar.

  • @mer1red

It depends on your style. For me, playing mostly fingerstyle and melodies, mainly jazzy, the order is 612ce > 412ce > 312ce. The 312ce seems to have has too much bass, but that is difficult to judge if you're not in the room yourself. For a solo singer accompanying himself/herself on guitar the 412ce is probably better. However, the Taylor model that stole my heart is not included here :-), because I'm not a fan of sitka tops. That is of course entirely subjective.

You described the 612 as having v-class bracing. However when viewing the description and specs on the Taylor website, it is described as having Advanced Performance with Relief Rout bracing. Can you clarify the difference.

    • @taylorguitars

You're right and that's an error on the website, they do have V Class bracing. Thank you for pointing that out. We'll notify the web team to make the correction.

All three sound great and very similar. However I think the 612 just edges it. I have had a 614CE and a 618 both of which played great. Keep up the good work.

I also loved the 612ce. The 412ce-R was okay but didn't seem to have the quality of sound that the 612ce had. My second choice would be the 312ce.

Any of them would be great if only they were more available in retail stores. I have been searching for a 612ce for nearly 2 years and have had no luck in the stores and will have to resort to purchasing online. It is disappointing when you can't really try a guitar before you buy, especially at this price point!

612 by far… all are great but 612 for finger style sounds like a $10k guitar. Older versions have slotted headstock - really distinctive. Why is this 612 not slotted? Plus I love that maple is such a sustainable wood.

    • @karimc4
      @karimc4 2 роки тому

I was told in the past that the slotted headstock was used on 12-fret editions. This is a 14-fret. It's still available.

I liked the 412 best. Seemed to have a very good balance between the highs and the lows. The 312 sounded too compressed to me. The 612 was great, but a little too mid-heavy to me.

  • @rzh3443

612, 312 and 412 in that order. The bassy rosewood seems too much to my ears, but couldn’t really go wrong with any one of the three.

Obviously personal preference, 412 for strumming, 312 for fingerstyle and likely due to choice of woods. The 612 is great but didn't excel at either. Again, all fine instruments.

I love Taylors. Not a fan of your mic placement. It's close and catches far too much of the sound hole which masks the tone because of the low-end build up. The sound hole is blowing straight onto the mic at certain places in the video especially the first time he plays the 412ce. Plus the tone changes quite a lot as he moves a little bit while playing. It would be far better to move the mic to around the 12 fret with a slight angle back toward the sound hole or move the mic farther away to get a more in the room sound of the whole guitar.
