- The inspiration for this original documentary is a silent 8th Air Force information film showing 8th AF P-51 gun camera film shot in the snow covered Winter of 1944-1945, with brief unit IDs for each pilot. We've restored the video, added sound effects from real P-51s and included photos of most of the featured pilots with additional info and pictures of their Mustangs. You'll see film from legendary aces like "Kit" Carson & his P-51 "Nooky Booky IV" & many more. Includes exciting air to air & air to ground attack film from the 35th, 55th, 78th, 357th, 364th, 379th & 479th Fighter Groups.

Absolutely amazing what these young men and women did accomplish without earrings and tattoos and without their feelings being hurt, truly a generation of heroes. Never forget thank you. My dad was a ground pounder in Germany and somehow connected to the Nuremberg trials, never talked much about the war. Video is gruesome but that’s war.

We have Gen Doolittle to thank for this film footage. His first act as the new commander of the mighty eighth air force was to unleash the wing's fighters from bomber escort duty to pursue the Luftwaffe in the air and on the ground anywhere in western Europe. His understanding of the proper use of his fighters drastically reduced bomber losses from up to twenty percent to less than one percent.

ZenosWarbirds - A fascinating upload as usual, with your HD quality being excellent. I like the incidental music, though I'm sure its not the kind of thing the old German train crews would've had in mind during the occasions depicted... Respect to all 8th AF personnel.
Re the music: I was going for a bit more of a contemporary sound for today's audience. See for example the soundtrack used for "HackSaw Ridge."

4.18 shooting of downed enemy aircraft by same pilot?
The one pilot on here E.G. Righetti crashed his plane 1 day before the war ended. He radioed back that he broke his nose and would be okay. 4 days later they found him hung from a tree by towns people in Germany. Really, really sad.
Lt. Kirk John speaks of it on a sit down interview.
