Pantelleria was small island in the Mediterranean sea between Tunisia and Siciily. One single aircraft had an engine problem and landed on it's airstrip as it couldn't get back to it's RN carrier. The pilot got out of his aircraft and the small garrison surrendered to him. I know this from someone who was there on the aircraft carrier. I was blessed to help Jack at 100 years of age to celebrate his Birthday with one of his favourite football players.

My Father is flying in one of the Boston aircraft shown in this newsreel footage, it was October 3rd 1943, the target a Power Station just outside of Paris at Chevilly Larue, what the newsreel doesn't mention is the fact that 6 aircraft were lost during the course of this Op., 2 from the section of 4 my Fathers aircraft was flying in, others being among the fighters covering the Op.
The tragedy of this Op. remained with my Father throughout the rest of his life, he was 18 years old at the time.

How cool that a Brit film ended with a tribute to the French and playing Le Marseillaise.

This was filmed before Cultural Marxism was introduced to make us all hate each other, we were busy fighting against another form of Socialism at the time.

My father flew Spitfires in North Africa, Malta and Italy with 243 Squadron RAF. Part of his duties was ferrying new aircraft around. I wonder if he or his squadron are in this film somewhere.

Thanks for the work that you have done, so that we can see these old films with ease, and I am glad that you didn’t put your logo right through the middle of the picture, like some have done, because it does spoil the picture, please stay safe, and carry on carrying on. Jon..........

Ground attack superiority of the allies air forces was absolutely devastating to the Werhmacht. Amateurs talk tactics while Generals talk logistics. The Luftwaffe was woefully deficient in several areas & although they tried to develop certain aircraft, it was all too late & ultimately futile.

The Germans' inability to destroy or even interrupt Allied means of production was a major flaw in their plans. They did relatively little against the UK, and had no answer whatsoever for American manufacturing. The Luftwaffe's lack of a dedicated, long range, four engine bomber and the ability to reach American and British centers of production was a huge oversight.

Yeah, the Stuka was highly effective for the Germans. When they lost air superiority no more Stuka.

Well taken 35mm slides, scanned to digital, are still better than 1080p. That is, 1080p resolution isn’t quite getting all a scan could do at higher resolution than that.

The bulgy intake of the Vokes airfilter underneath the engines on the "tropical" modfied Spitfires probably threw you off.
Those were badly needed in the MTO/ATO, to prevent the sand and dust of the region to reduce the lifespan of the engines from years to weeks.
Otherwise there's not much similarity between Spitfires and Typhoons/Tempests.
There was one airworthy surviving Mk. Vc/Trop: ua-cam.com/video/RJKVMfkD7OA/v-deo.html It has changed owner several times after this footage was taken. During this time it was repainted to standard ETO colour scheme, had her wings clipped and also somewhere along the line lost the Vokes filter. After a minor incident it finally received the much needed TLC, regained her wingtips and tropical colour scheme. It's flying again now, but unfortunately the filter seems to be lost for posterity. :'-(
