Mike, just a general thanks for any book recommendations you make; they are so valuable, given the size of the available choices. From this episode I sought N.T.Wright’s book and lucked onto his Advent book on Matthew…very timely and appropriate. Thanks again.
Awesome list of recommendations, thanks Dr. Bird! I had just ordered a copy of "Acts: Baker Exegetical Commentary" by Darrell Bock over the weekend, but I'll put the Patrick Schreiner commentary on my wish list (no more books for awhile until my credit card somewhat recovers!)
If you want folks to consider your suggestions then properly (e.g., limit glare) hold each book up to the camera for longer than a nanosecond & list them in your video description area. Actually, please do both.
How will you escape purgatory having not mentioned Bruce? Yes I know, Bruce Bruce Bruce; everyone mentions Bruce. But why not? Bruce was a model kind of evangelical scholar for those of us who take that identity in a more transatlantean way (Cad, UK, and Aus). Anyway, his third edition of his Greek text commentary remains very good, probably only outdone in ways by the second edition (still better than the other Greek text commentaries); and his English text commentary remains very good (I've read many)--under 500 pp. I don't know why my UA-cam handle is alphanumeric gibberish (I didn't make it that way), and I suppose it makes me anonymous, but I do study and publish on Luke-Acts. Entonces, porque no Bruce? Good to know about Walton's volume, it's been forthcoming for years. It's too bad about Teach the Text series, it had potential. Osborne's on Mark was very good. They never did publish the Acts volume in the NIGTC series--Ward Gasque was slated to do it (I believe when he was the editor of the series); so was Porter at some point I believe. None is now forthcoming to my knowledge. I've always wondered about it.
I am expecting a series for your best recommended commentaries Dr. Bird

Glad to help! 🙂
Please do more of these for other books of the Bible!
Thanks Mike. Looking forward to Craig Keener's volume in the New Cambridge Bible Commentary series being released in Logos soon.

Haven’t read his Acts commentary but I’ve got Darrel Bocks commentary on Luke and he does some good work
N.T. Wright? Anytime!. Keener's 4 volume on Acts is just such a herculean masterpiece.

Hi Michael, will you do a review of Lamb of the Free by Andrew Rillera at any stage? (Apologies that this message is not related to the book of Acts).
Maybe one day.

Dr. Bird, what are your thoughts on the ESV Expository Commentary series? I bought a bunch of them over the weekend while they were 75% off.
I don't know them well enough to comment.
No Richard Pervo?
He wrote part of his commentary in a federal prison for things found on his computer. Very sad story. Google it.
@@earlychristianhistorywithm8684 I was aware of that. So how does that affect his scholarship?
Mmmm first NT??? Keener is dissapointed Mike!
