Not again. Smh The first video was by far enough. All you did with that one and all you're likely to do with this series is just give more evidence to the truth of Mike's claims about how pathetic and empty the arguments from the Egalitarians are. And just how much Eisegesis reigns in the egalitarian camp.

Meanwhile, let’s call out the use of the ‘double speak’ term Complementarian. Patriarchy is anything but a celebration of male and female as complementary.

I hope your series takes a moment to address the matter of hermeneutical presuppositions. That's something that usually goes unaddressed, and IMO can affect whether it is even possible for one side to persuade the other.

Thank you for this insightful video. It was particularly valuable to hear a woman’s perspective on complementarianism. It’s crucial to acknowledge that embracing this viewpoint often means partnering with the removal of certain rights from women based on their gender. Just as historical injustices like slavery were supported by misinterpretations of biblical texts, we must speak out against any ideology that diminishes the inherent value of another human being. The image of God in every individual is non-negotiable. If someone holds an egalitarian view, we should not suggest they put themselves under oppression unless led by God, as it can diminish their divine calling and assignment on this earth. However, I appreciate the position of Michael Bird! Unity and diversity within our Christian circles and across denominations is essential! Thank you both again!

Mike represents exactly what is wrong with many so-called christians. They only listen to what they are taught, and read that into what the Bible says. Sola Scriptura has been abandoned, it is now Sola Pastora.

@Norrin777Radd Sure, and many Atheists probably didn't hear about him until he made videos on aplogetics. Many Mormons didn't know about him until he made a few videos on why mormonism is false. Maybe Calvanists didnt know about him until he made a video on why he isnt one(and James White responded). It doesnt suprise me people swimming in Birds circles didnt hear about him until he tackled this issue. However, If Michael Bird is going to address someone he probably needs to present him fairly. I notice this comment section has many who seem to have never watched both angles, just Birds responses. This is a small error, but an obvoius one. He made one series on the Egalitarian topic, like his others(lengthy) Bird seems to present this like its his main "thing". Its not, its one series, anyone can see this. They arent even his most famous videos, although popular. Some of these Egalitarians present him as the new leader of complimentarians, when he himself admits he wanted to be egal. He takes us through his research and conclusions, as one of his many series, in his catelog. If Bird overlooks details(that require a simple youtube search), I'm tempted to be skeptical of his deeper research. It's either lazy or a strawman, and that's unseroius. Again, small but makes you raise an eyebrow. That's all I'm getting at.

Paul is the false apostle of Revelation 2:2. I'll give anyone $10K to name his so called companions/witnesses on the road to Damascus. People , follow Christ and not the False apostle Paul. Matthew 18:16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’. I can't believe how blind, deaf and dumb so Christian teachers are.... $10,000 dollars... prove me wrong or read Jesus's Words only, apply , Jesus's words only...

I don’t think Mike Winger would disagree with your closing statement, other than to point out that pastoral ministry/the role of elder is not discussed as a gift of the spirit. Mike Winger is in favor of women teachers and provides several strong biblical arguments for that, including the fact that we have women deacons and examples of women teaching ministers in the NT. I look forward to seeing your future videos on this topic, and I invite you not to phrase things in a way that makes viewers assume untrue things about Mike Winger’s beliefs.

It can be reasonably established from Scripture that elder, shepherd (pastor), and overseer/supervisor/bishop are functionally equivalent in the NT. It can be shown that "shepherd" is a gift in the same sense as apostle, prophet, and evangelist. It can be shown that the same kind of leadership ascribed to elders and overseers in 1 Tim. 3 and 5 is a "gift" in Rom. 12. So Winger's stance can be challenged.

Even if a denomination takes 1 Timothy 2 as literally applicable today, the prime consideration for Paul seems to be not transgressing male headship within a marriage (the Adam/Eve example). What then about pastoral duties for single women who forego marriage?

Anyone who has studied the differences between men and women know that men are more impactful. About 2% of the men and 1% of the women are what we would call natural born leaders. Take a look at the percentage of men and women in leadership roles in society and the percentage of men and women in the service industries. That has nothing to do with how smart or how educated they are. The role of pastor is a responsibility and not just a job. The pastor must lead the congregation in making disciples as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19, 20. That means he is to lead in teaching them to observe all Jesus commanded. That is done by instruction and demonstration. The pastor must also lead in raising up leaders according to 2 Timothy 2:2. If he does not lead in making disciples and raising up leaders then he has not learned or unwilling to delegate his authority and power. If does not do that hen he is qualified. Preaching is simply being a good orator. Making disciples and raising up leaders is the practical part of ministry. If the pastor does not teach and practice then he is not qualified. I think most are too focused on one thing and not what the pastor's responsibility actually is. We have a lot of people in the church who are listeners and not doers. James 1:22 says that people who are just hearers are deluding themselves. That opens a huge door for narcissists and those in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. So many want a good preacher but not an authentic man first. Over and over I keep hearing and reading that the one thing young people want most is an authentic pastor. An authentic pastor knows he has struggles and does not mask them. He is transparent and struggles with the people.

Dear Dr. Bird. I’m a student (MDiv biblical languages) in a prominent southern Baptist seminary, and as I’m diving into topics like the new perspective on Paul (which I learned from you and NT Wright), I am realizing of many things that I was wrong about, especially in my reformed Baptist theology and ecclesiology. Congregationalism does not quite convince me, as I feel it’s producing thousands of “mini-castles” with their own overlords, the elders, and creating the opposite of a unified church body. My issue is that I also see issues with other models! What resources would you recommend to dive into these topics? My apologies if this is not the right channel…

Thanks Mike. I'm looking forward to the series. I have long since stopped using the labels "complementarian" and "egalitarian" as they are totally inadequate, to the point of being misleading and destructive. I believe that the difference between male and female is an essential God-given part of being human, with all the differences in temperament, parenting roles and relationships, etc. BUT... I also believe that women have always been in Christian leadership for the whole church. We are an eschatological people and our community should reflect the inaugurated age to come, even as we continue to live in this present age. So if I was forced to use a label for my position, it would have to be something like "inaugurated eschatologist". Do you think it'll catch on? 😂

Other than wishing there was a woman a part of this conversation this was great. The thing that stood out to me with Mike Winger’s videos was not even his arguments but his presentation and overall attitude toward others, mainly scholars or otherwise who disagreed with him. Advertising yourself as if you have unlocked the answers and had some spiritual revelation sounds more cultish than well researched. I think there is some decent scholarship out there supporting complementarianism but his was not it. He completely ignores huge works of scholarship and misconstrues them for his own argument’s benefit. I know this isn’t a valid argument in terms of biblical scholarship but I also can’t help but think about how convenient it is for men to be complementarian. I really hope Mike engages at some point, if not just for a wonderful discussion. Egalitarian all the way.

I won't call it complementarianism because it is not complementary. I have seen families destroyed and torn apart by these wrong beliefs. Thank you for speaking up and speaking out. Because people seem to trust Mike Winger implicitly, they trust what he says uncritically. He is wrong and a whole new generation is being led into harm's way. Arrrghhh. I look forward to your series, Mike! If I may add something to your closing remarks, I sense that complementarians interpret the pushback from egalitarians as a "fight for women's rights", iow, that our primary concern is the affect on individual women of not being able to exercise their leadership gifts. In reality, egalitarians are concerned about how barring women from participation affects the health of the Church.

He misrepresented several scholars, attacked their work and motive, declined to engage with atleast 5 scholars/theologians/authors after repeatedly stating that he'd "love pushback". He had slandered the name and work of various scholars, all without the proper mindset and tools for critical analysis. He had one whole video telling egals to "repent". Repent of what? Sin requires repentance. Egal scholars sinned by following the mind of Christ on this issue. His position is not that of the mind of Christ on this subject. You're very kind in the grace you offer you. But it's ok and important to professionally hold Winger accountable. Otherwise it will be confusing to many.

This video simply reinforces mike's point that the egalitarian position doesn't have arguments, sorry to see that and from well-situated scholars at that. And to put differences in interpretation down as Mike simply not reading the context again portrays an arrogance I am sorry to see in Christian scholars. I'd love to hear a convincing case for egalitarianism. I grew up under women leadership and still frequent circles and institutions that hold to that position. It would be so much easier to embrace that doctrine. But if this is the best attempt to undergird the position with scripture, then I guess I'll have to remain a complementarian.

First, however, I must deal with the matter of Jesus, the so-called savior, who not long ago taught new doctrines and was thought to be a son of God. This savior, I shall attempt to show, deceived many and caused them to accept a form of belief harmful to the well-being of mankind. Taking its root in the lower classes, the religion continues to spread among the vulgar! Amen Lord Jesus justifying the ungodly!

So much false teaching going on now. The Didache is one. So what it’s ancient? Lots of gnostic garbage were written back in the day. Nothing new under the sun. Read the Scripture, folks. These are wolves in sheeps clothing.

I never knew you were a Calvinist. I’m not myself, I’m an Armenian, but we are still Christian Brothers. I enjoy your content and your writings. Thank you.

Here is the secret, it's all one church. It was up to the sinfulness and stupidity of man to divide it. First there was the schism of 451 with the Orientals and the Catholic Orthodox, then the Great Schism of 1054 which divided the church again, then the excommunication of Jan Huss, then the excommunication of Martin Luther and other reformers starting in 1520, then the Anglicans excommunicated John Wesley, you get the picture. If you follow Jesus, you are a part of Christ's Holy Catholic Apostolic church on Earth. But I would say that the Catholic church smwhich includes the Roman Catholics is the best one in my opinion.
