Took soo long for him to grab that fire extinguisher that the fire almost went out by itself
“doesnt need too much” *carb dripping with fluid*
lol I may have overdone it a bit
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 yep lol.
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 you overdid it a LOT ... all it needs is a small puff (one small spray) ... you drenched the carb in it... and damaged components of the engine, most likely.
*sprays way too much starting fluid into carb* ,*lights mower on fire*, *cleans up mess*, *continues to spray even more starting fluid than before, so much that it's pissing out of the carb and onto the spot where the fire originally happened* I can't believe it didn't light on fire again.
Lol I appreciate the humor
Yeah, just make sure to be careful. You don't need nearly as much fluid as you used. Just get a little red straw for spray cans and stick it down the throat of the carb, then give it a little squirt. That should be all you need. Good luck on future projects, but keep an extinguisher on hand, and don't get too cocky.
thanks and i agree .
by the time he actually managed to find an extinguisher all the fluid had nearly burnt itself out
U spray enough ether to start a durmax
Lol yup, I definitely need to rebuild the carb
ditto 4 durmaxs
ron lathrop lol
Ya dude one spray or two is all u need my snowmobile is like that because it’s a 76 and it starts with only starting fluid I satart it one or two spray and it starts
ron lathrop and two powerstrokes
Welcome back to another video, today we are gonna set the john deere 68 on fire
Wayyyyy too much starting fluid!! 😳
“Massive Fire”
So that was a massive fire ??? My Zippo does better ...🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴
Lol sorry I don't meet your standards😋
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182. SCHEISSKOPH 💩🐴
Rodney Brand
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 I wouldn’t say sorry bc he must have a hell of a zippo
same thing happen to me with my friends push mower. the primer bulb was fucked so i put gas in the carb bc it hasn’t been started in 2 years and it was shooting flames out of carb intake and then all the sudden it was flooding and all the gas caught on fire and spit out the mower. neighbor ran over with a fire extinguisher and helped us
It's nice to see other people with the old rear engine riders too, my S82 has been very useful over the years
they are pretty nifty
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 They seemed klunky to me when my friend had his. His was running a Honda GXV360 or 390. It ran quite well, especially since it originally had one of these crappy Briggs engines in it. I wasn't too impressed with it due to the awkward placement of the transmission controls. Then again, I've had mostly MTD riders that seemed to do what I neeeded them to do. Now I own a Walker Mowers zero turn machine powered by a Kohler Command Pro 23.5 HP engine and two Cub Cadet Series 2000 tractors with Kohler Command Pro 12.5 HP engines. Other riders I had for a time were a Honda HT3813, loved that machine but finding replacement parts for it would have been more expensive than I was willing to fix it, an old Poulan Pro tractor with an 18 HP Kohler Magnum opposed twin that sounded like a Diesel engine when it ran and a New Holland tractor with an 18 HP Kohler Command Pro V-Twin.
I love how calm he is
First you check for fuel. Then you check if you got fire... Holy Smoke!!
this vid was hilarious lol atleast you learned something.
I have an older version of that little John Deere that caught fire... I will never understand the reason for putting the muffler orientation such that is obstructed by the drop-down body. the body gets super hot from the exiting exhaust gases! also the presence of the body covering the muffler causes the exhaust gases to hang around. to me it just don't make sense
yeah its a bad design
The motor has been changed on this. If you look closely you can see the exhaust pipe from the original muffler sticking out from below the engine. The engine cooling vent on the original 8hp would go out where this motors muffler is and exhaust would go out below the body and away into the blue yonder
The Deere sounds like it might be missing most of it's compression. Doesn't seem like it smokes much on start up so I'm guessing it's the head gasket and not the rings.
Yeah, in one of my later videos I did a compression test and this was true. One of the issues was the intake valve not sealing, but I haven't checked the head gasket yet.
I never half to use starting fluid on my John deer 68
Correct me if im wrong? but shouldnt you crank the engine when you spray the starter fluid? so it gets sucked in
The gasket to the carb is jacked up if you leaking out carb cleaner like that
If your carburetor is on fire, just crank the engine again , that sucks the flame and the gasoline haze into the engine, that extinguish your fire very fast
Great video dude!
Wow that was massive
Coming from another Vermonter keep that fire extinguisher by your side its a life saver trust me.
If you are going to use ether, spray it while cranking the engine to prevent damaging the engine. Also ether removes the oil from the cylinder wall, so if it don't start, put some lube in there before it rusts.
thanks i will
It only takes a little of the starting fluid like one small spray or two then choke it so it can suck it in instead of air . A little safer option is to take a small amount of gas poured in to like a cap or a oil jug or something and pour it straight in the carb .
when the carb catches fire you need to keep cranking the engine over.
that would keep feeding the fire fuel
TeamGreenMachine yeah but it will suck up the flames.
“Royce Vance” Yup, I totally agree, if you don’t know how to do things properly then he shouldn’t make videos about it 😂
Yup, it pulls all the fire into the cylinder quenching it and also helps with cold starts by heating the cylinder
@@zachneufeld2148 partly true lol i mean other people are learning his bad habits like a gallon of starter fluid into the carb. that could detonate an engine im sure. but oh well who am i to say lol
Dude it’s the new self warmer
Nothing burns like a Deere.
Always have a air filter on did you get the vavles adjusted???
This is a flathead engine, no overhead valves
why didnt you put the bolt from the air cleaner back in so the starting fluid dose not leak out the bolt hole in the base of the carby ?
I should have
for that ill sub .... its rare a youtuber will admit something they did wrong let alone admit to someone thats telling them what hey did wrong !!!
Much appreciated!
Nothing runs like a Deere.
You shouldn't have sprayed starter fluid in it. It dries out the cylinders so it will always need starting fluid
1st one sounds good the Sabre
My Naibors dirt bike leaks from the carb and we were jumper cabling it and it lit on fire and started spitting on it 😂
I was trying to start a lawnmower and I had the airfilter off and it spat from the card a little flame and I had an oil pan under and the oil pan took fire
Bo, you lucky that the battery didnt get affected
Oh, that still says Wheel Horse on the back...cool. I have a 1989 312-8 and a 2000 314-8 overhead valve. I wish now I had gone for the 400 series with hydro. Maybe I can find one on Craigslist.
Those are both great tractors. I'm sure you could find a 400 series on craigslist
Nice
beer's a good fire suppressant for those pesky backfires.
should have cranked it over again, the fire would have been sucked out. Its always nice to have an extinguisher on hand for this stuff.
We’re did you get that snowplower on the tractor
I found it on craigslist
This happened to me one time I had a John Deere 111 me and my buddy was trying to get running and we had just re painted it and he took the air filter off and sprayed starter fluid in it just went up in flames
Thats because you should never take off the air Filter when engine is cold especially you are spraying something into the intake, if then it gives a backfire this happens
I no longer use the dry chem type extinguisher. The dust is toxic, corrosive. I've switched to better alternative.
good to know
good to know
All is good brother. If the Marine Corp taught me one thing; it's to not take shit seriously. I wish you all the best.
Glad you and Shane figured it out. It was good entertainment for me though
You never allow the Engine to rev like that from a cold start
Do you know any way to sell a old antique 1965 snapper push mower? I have one and it looks really old. To wimpy for a commercial business.
if you actually have a 1965 snapper push mower, that is super cool. Could you send me a picture of it? my email is qqjmcb1@gmail.com . Maybe i'll buy it from you to restore lol. If not though, I would use craigslist or ebay. They are both free sites to sell things on. Hoping that you will send me a picture of it though!
sorry, I'm not ready to sell it QUIT yet. It still needs to be fixed
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 I've got an 86 snapper push mower. In really good condition and it works. I used it during the summer
I've been trying to trade it for a riding mower if your interested
Are you going to selling the sabre
My john Deere 68 with 11 horse Craftsman about did the same thing.
that raven tractor, what's the big deal with it? I see it everywhere online.
I guess people like the concept
sounds right... thanks.
I burnt my snowblower to a crisp after checking for spark and not wiping the plug . Carb was leaking gas onto the machine and my oil pan was underneath .went to put it out with the fire extinguisher and it didn’t work .least to say I threw that one out
wow what a huge fire i am surprised there were no fire trucks.
A massive fire? My lawnmower was a massive fire. The throttle stuck while I was mowing downhill so I tried pulling out the key. The key was out and the engine was running so I just bailed off and watched it roll into a tree. The fire was spreading from the mower to a poison ivy bush so I had no choice but to i let it burn and to run away. I wasn't going to breath in that airborne poison ivy.
Wow that sucks
That Kohler Command Vtwin in the toro sounds awesome.
yeah it's got a great growl
what horse command twin is that. My ol husqvarna yth180 has a 18 command vtwin.
this one is also the 18 hp model
To me there is nothing like them commands. Maybe I overreact but, would take mine command over a briggs twin any day but, that is just me
I like the commands but my personal preference would be a Briggs.
Is the toro straight piped
Kind of
It ain't got no gas in it (says Billy bob)
Well don't feel bad I started my duecth all is on fire and I only had beer to put it out and I was out in the field mowing and drunk so it took a minute to decide beer or lawn mower .lol though
lol
Get a HALON fire extinguisher, it will put out the fire just as easy, but without the monoammonium phosphate powder. You're wise, to clear that powder out of the engine, to protect the valve faces the seats, as well as the piston rings and cylinder walls. A HALON fire extinguisher would have saved you a lot of work, cleaning up the mess from all the powder. Another advantage is, that the fire extinguisher will work a second time, if need later. The powder fowls the seal in the ABC extinguisher valve, causing it to lose pressure, even though there's no loss of powder. Dry chemical extinguishers are a '1-time use only", then they need to be recharged, even if not empty. HALON doesn't do that. It's much more useful, if you regularly work with gasoline fueled engines.
Ancient secret...keep fire extinguisher handy like in work area and like hand cleaner, a little dab will do ya fine \m/
thanks
Love ur truck dude
Thanks. Right now I have a 2001 silverado, a 2015 sierra (which is technically not mine because it is a company truck) and a 2003 s10. I love them all!
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 I have a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle and omfg I love it to pieces the only thing I like in vehicle wise is Chevrolet and dodge
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 don’t ever sell them man, keep em!! Most reliable vehicles. I’m all for Chevy
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 I love both of those vehicles u have
Hell yeah I love chevys. Dodges are pretty good too, not so much Ford's. I'll try to keep these as long as I live! Then maybe they'll be worth something when I die lol
It's funny because the fuel had pretty much burnt out by the time he actually got the extinguisher ready
I dont know if it's an OHV engine, if so it may need a valve lash adjustment, good luck.
Too much starting fluid, the Fire come by the muffler or intake valve. If you want you can choke with hand for start the engine
Use a shop rag or towel for small fires
Everyones calling the carb cleaner starter fluid. If that was true the carb would have likely exploded off of the engine.
why did the john deere 68 backfired
the intake valve was frozen
Where did I miss the MASSIVE FIRE?
Need to keep a fire extinguisher in the garage.
I use windshield washer hose gas line lol
lol
6:17 start that Razor too:-)
Won’t too much starting fluid do something to the engine??
It delubricates the head
Let’s try to rebuild the carburetor now!
NEVER use ether to start ANY small engine. Its a great way to break a crank shear key on the flywheel on a backfire. Not only that, its HIGHLY flammable. I ALWAYS use a gas oil mix. If it is on an engine that has been sitting for a while, the oil will lubricate the cylinder. I have been working on small engines for 25 years or better. My first experience on a Snowblower was breaking the flywheel key because ether causes backfires every time. The sudden reverse of the engine causes the keyway to shear. You dont have to mix the oil gas 50/50 or anything like that, just a small amount in an oil can, or spray bottle works. Straight gas in a spray bottle eats the spray bottles guts. That fire was about out and you just made a BIG mess and wasted an extingusher. That powder is EVERYWHERE NOW. You should have used an air compressor and blown everything off. Dude, nice MESS.
Someone probably said it but I dont wanna read em all, crank the engine if theres a carb fire
Spray some more in there
How is it cold it's only september
It was like 35 degrees so not too cold but cold enough.
I have done that many times I blew it out every time then started it right up
careful when blowing on a gas fire....
Carborator got to get changed
i rebuilt it.
Funny thing is that when you saw the fire if you would have tried to crank i over more it probably would’ve went out
Wouldn't call that massive fire. To much starting fluid sprayed which when you tried to blow it out caused the excessive over spray to catch and by the time you for back with the fire extinguisher it had almost burnt was was left off.
What massive fire?
Ok first thing you need to learn is that starting fluid is like cocaine to a gas or Diesel engines, use it very wisely and you can also use WD40 as starting fluid
lol good analogy. I sometimes substitute carb clean or brake clean for starter fluid, ill try wd-40 though
Massive fire where i didnt see it
Maybe it was cause by the cylinder facing the gas tank?
Or the muffler near the carb
maybe
2:35
Don't EVER sell the Toro tractor. That is a slightly updated model based on the Wheel Horse...tough as nails. Toro doesn't build anything but front mount now.
I want one
rebuild the carb. Also way to much starting fluid!!! You only need a squirt.
i did in my last vid on it
Should call it a john doe instead ;)
Lmao a little starter fluid any one else see it pissing on the frame of the tractor
lol I noticed that when editing the video
Massive?
Only caught the last bit on camera.
starting fluid is not a good idea for small engines ... especially just spraying it all over the place... IF you need to use it, best to use a small cap full and pour directly onto the carb
Want to sale the raven
no sorry
When I was a kid I lit farts that lasted longer.
Lol. I may have exaggerated a little but it scared the crap out of me
I may have too.
when this happens, Just crank the engine over again, it will suck the fire back into the engine.
new carb warming idea lol Dont take much ether
Time for a new carb if your pressed for time lol i know the expensive
I'd rather rebuild; the new ones for these engines cost around $120, and I can only really sell this thing for $300
Massive you should see my four wheeler it blew up literally
Lol that sucks
Ya it’s all medal has no carburetor for some reason and nothing ether than medal
2:36 Geez! Did you put it out?
yep
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 That was scary!
