Watching this video because I have one of these plants. Wanted to pop in a add that #5 is not entirely correct. Fishbone cactus is actually a different variety. Fishbone, ric rac, and zig zag cactuses are all different. Some are selenicereus and some are epiphylum (hope I spelled those right). The main difference is in the shape of the leaves, so make sure you know which one you want before making a purchase. Hope that helps anyone watching this video!
I just learned today that there are two varieties, zig zag or ric rac and then the fishbone cactus. Often confused as the same plant but looking into it, they are clearly different.
I have had my plants for 2 years in a pot and it’s not thriving I think its because of the care I’ve giving it I decided to google it today and your video popped up it was very helpful to know that it’s may need more hydration, thanks for your information.
Hi Sandra! So glad you found this channel...hopefully you can find more videos on this channel that will be helpful! Mercy, peace and love be multiplied to you.
Hello, this is one of my favorite plants, I know it's has been more than a year since you uploaded this video.. will you please upload an actual video of the actual condition of the plant !? I would love to see it . Thank you in advance. Patricia Maqueda.
I just got this plant thinking it was a fern and treating it as such. Not too far from conditions and care, but thanks for this video!! And the music is fire!!
Wow. I did the exact same thing. Got mine from a person that sold “succulents” & I got a hobbit jade plant & this.. what they called a “fish bone” plant... both under the guise of them being the “normal” type succulents. I had to realize the hard way they are not taken care of the same way. Wish you had gotten into care tips!
I have two different "fishbone cacti" but they are completely different in shape and the ends are completely different. How do I find out what species they are? I have been struggling to tell them apart... one has been thriving through summer, the other just started growing a few weeks ago (and almost died in summer). Please help if possible!
Thank you so much for this information I just ordered me one of those particular type of plants and I didn't know anything about it so I appreciate it thank you I ordered cuttings off of Epsy
Fannie Jett Hi! You answered the first question I had for you which was, “Where did you find one?” I’m always looking for more 😊. I’m glad you enjoyed this video and I wish you the best of luck with your new plant baby. Mercy, peace and love be multiplied to you.
I purchased a “cutting” for a zig zag cactus....and it’s not zagging lol. The stems are about a foot long and they SEEM to zig zag but it’s really just lots of scallop edges? Hard to describe. These are BIG zigs and zags....mine are tiny and appear more scalloped than zaggy...so I have no idea what mine is. I do tend to collect more Rhipsalis, epi’s...jungle cacti
BamaMom0225 yeah I know exactly what you mean. I do have some epiphytes that behave that way, but my zigzag isn’t generally one of them. That still doesn’t mean that yours isn’t a zigzag. Any way that you could head over to my FB page (Liquidambar Girl Gardening) and post a few pics. And I can share a few of my epis that send out crazy growth like what you are describing too. Thanks for commenting!
One of the more readily available jungle cactus is Epiphyllum oxypetalum and they have heavy scalloping along the edges. See if a search for that helps you yield any answers?
MakerMike: love that one but not it. This has less gap between the scallops...thing constant up down up down and each “zig” is about 2cm across at the top of each hill or “zag” and about same space between each one. Reminds me of the pattern a pair of scallop scissors gives. It may be a ric rac where this in the video is a fishbone....I acquired one and can see their differences. Both need more light I’m sure. I’m hoping next spring I will know for sure what it is by starting it off with better light!
@@Mtkrvi06 hello again ;) If you haven't figured out the identity of your cactus by now and still have it try to look up Epiphyllum crenatum. I got one this spring and crenatum translates into scalloped.
MakerMike: ohhh thank you! I will look that up. I managed to snag one like this video since my comment....so I now have 4 pots...(got a few others as well that are showing as some type of scalloped, or sagged growth. I can’t wait til spring. I swear I’m getting a greenhouse next year so they can grow year round. I have to ensure they go dormant as of now so I can winter them inside. If they didn’t go dormant they would really suffer with my inside lack of light and humidity. We are plagued by sub tropical humidity in the summers but our winter is dry. This ear has been so mild. I’m thinking Jan-March will be coldest. Anyway. I’ll try to remember to pop back in when I know for sure what they are! Thanks for the tip!
Hi Christina, yes, that's the basic idea. Orchid potting mix works or even Cactus and Succulent potting mix is good if you add organics (compost). Hope this helps! :)
Liquidambar girl Gardening Thanks for info! I re-potted an epiphite in cactus soil & wondered why it didn't look like it was doing well. I did let sit out in the rain last weekend & looks like it enjoyed the good soaking.

I notice there seems to be some shriveling spots on your specimen mine is suddenly showing the same wrinkled skin is this a concern ?
Watch out for those little brown bugs,I have to spray with a mixture of alcohol and water or use alcohol qtips especially on new growth
Plastic pots retain more moisture.
I had already subscribed to you and lost you glad to find you again
Does it have spiky thorns like cactus do?

It's beautiful
Hey Jodi Jools! I totally agree!!! Mercy, peace and love be multiplied to you.
selenicereus anthonyanus it's the name of this plant.
So, epiphites can thrive on something like potting soil with tree bark pieces?
Hi Christina, yes, that's the basic idea. Orchid potting mix works or even Cactus and Succulent potting mix is good if you add organics (compost). Hope this helps! :)
