Hi Lyn, I have a RicRac cactus that did the same thing. My plant had Cactus Virus X. There’s not much info on the virus but I was told that it was because I probably didn’t sterilize my tools when I was working with it. They also told me to throw the whole plant away. I couldn’t bring myself to do that. I cut off any stems that didn’t seem affected and threw the rest away. The cuttings I took are doing fine six months later.
Thats fantastic news you was able to take cuttings from your RicRak Cactus and they are growing fine now, I think these Epiphyllum cacti are very prone to getting these virus's, thankfully this Epiphyllum German Empress is making a slow but good recovery, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic new week XXXX

Oh Lyn, what a sad video. I hope you can get it to make a full recovery. If anyone can, you can. When you said plants have a life span too I was thinking this could be a good explanation. You had this plant for around 15 years and there's no telling how long the lady had it before you. I'm hoping a repotting will do the trick. I'm keeping my fingers crossed 🤞. It does have the most gorgeous flowers when in bloom. Sending you and Hans peace, love and Epiphyllum Power for a Tremendous Tuesday from your friend in Georgia!

Unfortunately I believe you are on spot with your diagnosis. A virus! Which means as you probably know , that all parts are infected. I think if it were age, you could still propagate cuttings. Much like with the Euphorbia stellaspina that you have of mine now. The plant did come to the end of its life, but the cuttings live on. I'm so sorry you are losing this beautiful plant. You probably feel like I did when I lost my very old ariocarpus retusus. 😔 Sad. Like a friend and coworker of mine once said years ago. "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb" I would do just what you are doing. Try until you can't. Everything deserves a chance . 🤞Best of luck Lyn, hopefully a miracle will happen! . I saw a little mirical the other day in my greenhouse. My cereus spirals has not grown in a couple of years. This was due to an attack by cactus scale. I fought this over and over. The plant became weak . Even though I finally won the fight with the beasties. It just stopped and got a little sad looking. There it sat. I just saw a glimmer of green hope in the very tip. New growth!!! And I haven't even watered it since October!! So, there's always a bit of hope. Thanks for sharing Lyn. I believe these things by seeing them , help others in the long run. From Morris Park in the Ozarks, to across the emerald isle, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🥀🌳🏵🌿🌸🌷🌱🌲🌹🌴🌾🌻🪴💐🍀😃👍🤞
Thats awesome news your Cereus spiralis has started to grow again Clyde, and I think that it took a couple of years off to recuperate from the scale beasts, some of our Opuntias got scale and although the scale has gone now, it really seems to set the plants back from putting out new growth, I really fear that its a virus too, especially as it got Aphid greenfly last Spring, the beasts can cause virus infection into the plants tissues and wipe out the plant, and so very true with your stellaspinas the ones you gave us are growing amazing and doing so well even though your Mother plant had come to its end of life, I will be keeping my fingers crossed for this plant and checking over the root system and give it a fresh repot at the weekend, I fear because the cuttings I have taken of this cactus still go yellow and die that its a dreaded virus, but I will make an update on how this poor plant gets on, thanks so much Clyde for your wonderful Friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you and beautiful deb and all the pets and plants all lots of love and happiness and PEACE, LOVE, PLANTS and PLANT POWER to Morris Park for a fantastic Thursday XXXX

Hi Lyne,
I have this plant, and to its been a real struggle to know how the help this 30yr old beauty with the same symptoms as yours. I do think it's the heat , I am down to four pieces now .I have noticed new growth which looks really healthy. Fingers crossed. for yours too. Try putting a quartz crystal in the plant with the intention of healing and of course Love.
💗💗💗
Thats fantastic you have got new healthy growth on yours Christina :-D and I will definitely be putting a quartz onto the plant for healing and love, the heat last summer was so challenging for our plants, and I think with older plants they can be more susceptible to stress like heat and cold etc, fingers crossed our plants both go on to make a wonderful recovery, thanks so much Christina for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Thursday XXXX
