I've tried the NESCAFE BARISTA!

  • I used the NESCAFE BARISTA PM9630, a coffee maker specializing in instant coffee. The PM9630 can make a total of five types of coffee: espresso type (100ml), two types of black coffee (200ml, 250ml), café latte using milk, and cappuccino. Milk powder can also be used.

     The PM9630 comes with a measuring cup for milk. The scale is 60 ml for café latte and 50 ml for cappuccino. Pour the milk into the cup, transfer it to a coffee cup, and set it in the cup. It is not necessary to heat the milk. The drip tray is where the coffee cups are placed. A plastic film is attached to the front and back of the metal plate. Remove it before use. There are two slots to insert the drip tray, which are changed according to the height of the cup. For example, a 300 ml mug, latte, or cappuccino would use the lower slot, while a 100 ml demitasse cup or espresso type would use the upper slot.
     The maximum water level in the water tank is about 0.8L. There is also a 2L tank kit sold separately. The coffee tank, which holds coffee powder instead of coffee beans, is located in the upper section. The opening of this coffee tank is special. The only coffee powder that can be used is the Nescafe Eco & System Pack. The types are NESCAFE PRESIDENT 75g, Aroma Roast Medium Roast 60g, Aroma Roast Deep Roast 60g, GOLDBREND 80g, and GOLDBREND 120g. The shape of the powder can be described as a bumpy one. Although it is sold as an eco & system pack, you cannot use a silky powder like "NESCAFE EXCELLA".
     Let's try making a cappuccino. Fill the milk to the scale of the measuring cup provided and transfer to a coffee cup. Place the coffee cup on the drip tray. The power switch is located at the bottom of the side of the machine. Turn it on. The round button in the center will blink. 4Press Cappuccino (lower left). Note that at the beginning of use, the maximum water level of about 0.8L in the water tank should be used up with the coffee tank drained. Failure to do so will result in coffee with a plastic smell.
     Ready to use. Press the round button in the center. First, a jet of hot water that froths the milk will be emitted. This hot water is then slapped onto the milk, warming it and making it frothy. Next, coffee is poured. Of course, this is inferior to foam milk or steamed milk that is foamed with steam. This is natural and similar to coffee from a drink bar. In the case of black coffee, a crema (a fine layer of mousse-like foam) is produced even though it is instant coffee. I was impressed by this.
     The part that needs to be cleaned once a day is the stirrer. To remove it, pull out the drawer. Lower the green lever. Pull out the agitator. Pull out the filter attached to the inside of the stirrer. Remove the lever at the bottom of the stirrer and soak it in warm water for at least 2 minutes to clean it. The drip tray is also cleaned, but after several uses, I have never spilled coffee here.

     Later, I bought an inexpensive coffee dripper because cleaning the machine after use became a hassle. Furthermore, I am not sure if it is a change in my taste buds due to age or the effects of being laid up with the flu, but instant coffee no longer suits my palate. Since I don't like acidity, I have settled on a style where I buy deep coffee beans and grind them in a coffee mill when I drink it. It is the easiest to maintain because I wash the dripper along with the coffee cup after drinking.
