I am a German who uses UA-cam to practice my English comprehension capabilities. I completely agree with your video except of the AirBnB part. This AirBnB system has led to the fact that flat owners do no longer rent out their flats on long term basis but convert them into AirBnB's to make more profit. It becomes harder and harder for the locals to find affordable accomodation.
Gerd Papenburg I completely agree with you. Also, just think about how many people work for a hotel. Not only the waiters, recepcionists, etc. The companies that provide food and stuff to the hotel have so many workers too.
Gerd Papenburg we see the same problem here in Hawaii ... Airbnb is affecting a lot of home owners...
I think a better way to usr AirBnB is to pay for shared accommodation/room where the tenant is already living instead of renting out an entire apartment.
I work in a hotel! I will say there is a ton of waste, however we are taking steps towards being eco friendly. For example with the soap, we donate it to a company who melts it down and gives it to homeless shelters etc. love your videos!
Thank you for sharing Michaela! Small steps are the first steps on the longer road to full sustainability :)
I study geography and our exam for the sustainable development module is on sustainable tourism, cannot stress enough the importance of supporting local businesses. think GLOBAL, act LOCAL!! Sustainable tourism is such an interesting topic, thanks for this video! :)
Great video guys, but I would not reccomend Airbnb because it's being a huge problem with gentrification (people see that renting their house to tourists is more profitable than renting it to locals to live there, so prices go up, and now local people have to leave that place for other one because they can no longer pay the rent). It's being a pretty big problem in Spain.
Yikes! Seems like for every benefit a new product delivers, it changes something else and creates a new one 😕
And thats how you provide value for your audience. You're such an inspiration for my channel. Keep it up guys :)
🙏🏼🙏🏼
I feel like you make a great point about exploring your own back yard. We always have the sense of "oh it'll always be there" but say you move cross country, or out of country then....You have to fly back to go visit. So visit your back yard while you can. A 4 hour drive is a lot less on the planet, than say a 5-7 hr flight.
That's right! Plus living here in the USA, we have SO MUCH Public Land! Time for a camping trip!
I've been so SHOOK at how many incredible places there are in Arizona I haven't even been to yet-the Lava Tubes in Flagstaff, the Meteor crater one of the largest BEST preserved craters on the planet, Colossal Caves, a TON of hiking trails outside of Phoenix I haven't done....hell I haven't even REALLY explored Phoenix Arizona, and it's only a two hour drive from Tucson....Time to make the most use out of my car before I sell it, and the most out of my weekends haha
Travel, sustainability and Thoreau in the same video? I think this is my favorite so far ❤️
🙌🏼🙌🏼
This is such a depressing topic... I always feel bad for not doing enough for the environment. Thanks for the tips! I’ll start incorporating a few of these when I travel.
Every little thing counts. 🙏🏼
I love that you guys had the guts to recommend menstral cups. Thats how you know they are taking this seriously!
Can’t really vouch for how they work though haha
Just glad you had the gumption to talk about it, alot of women are even afraid of that. :) Love it!
Omg this is gold! Just started to look more into sustainable and non toxic fashion, diet, beauty, travel, cleaning etc etc - and then this pops up in my inbox!!!
Awesome!!
I may have taken the 'slow travel' to a whole new level...I spent 3 months camping down the west coast of Scotland and through Ireland. I had my own tent, and lived by the sun - so one torch battery lasted me the whole trip! I walked or caught a bus/hitchhiked as my way of getting around and ate simply but local where I could. I had all my own reusable stuff and often used he ocean as a way of getting clean (salt water makes for an amazing cleanser and sand makes for such a good exfoliant).
Sounds epic!!!
Thanks for this video. Really good tips and finally a travel channel that adresses such themes!
I love using solid shampoo and conditioner while traveling! It comes in metal tins, you don’t have to deal with liquids, and it’s waste free.
I was watching your video and then suddenly a very little frog appeared on my keyboard from nowhere. I think he agrees with you and now he is in my backyard.Happy earth day to everyone. That was very informative. Thanks for the tips..
Really??? Where are you watching from?
A little village in south India...
also u can try reducing your use of animal products bc thats the number one cause of global warming meatless mondays are a great way to start
Very true! Don't have to go fully vegan but just limiting your animal product consumption goes a long way too!
I've been watching your videos for a long time now but I think this is my favorite! You guys addressed such an important topic and I wished more youtubers would do the same. Thank you so so much for this video and the tips you gave. I even got a bit emotional when you spoke about animals haha Thank you!
Thank you for watching 🙏🏼🙏🏼
This is one of the best travel videos out there. You guys are truly an inspiration.
No one is a perfect human. There are no perfect minimalists, vegans, etc. The statements about hypocrisy were appreciated and I’m glad you guys touched on it since I’m sure there would have been comments made about it.

This video was PERFECT! Every point made was valid and well thought. Here for our Mother Earth and her animal babies (INCLUDING US!)!!!!!
Thanks for understanding 🙏🏼
Love this video so much! Thanks for addressing this super important topic! In keeping with the theme of this video, I would love to see a video dedicated to clothing that is sustainable and great for traveling. I know you talk about this a bit in your favourites and your packing guides but maybe you could do a video all about sustainable brands and clothing and shoes that are particularly great for traveling (pack down to take up hardly any space, versatile, durable, etc.)
Great video! Love to see big influencers promote sustainable travel!
It's crazy how whenever you upload a video, it seems to be reading whatever's on my mind
How so Nic?
That was a really good topic to share about it ! I do love it ! Travel is amazing ! Being a part who’s love travel ! Sustainable travels is the part of humanity to maintain ,to take care all around word is our responsibility! I would be happy to do that ! To keep all the beautiful place in peace ✌️
So cool that you're talking about environment, especially wildlife. I work on wildlife conservation and I believe awareness raising is the most important
We’re all about wildlife conservation :)
Slow travel...so up my alley 😌. Traveling can be hectic so I don’t savor the idea of running around everywhere trying to see everything once you get there, as you said. It takes you out of the moment and you probably miss opportunities to really connect with people. So, instead of thinking I’m a “lazy” traveler, I can say I’m helping to save the environment!! Thanks Vagabrothers!! 😋🤓🌈
Hahaha love this 🙌🏼
Hi Bhai (Brothers in Hindi) This is Dilip from Indore, India. Undoubtedly the best video I have ever seen on saving environment. You have very well explained how little things can save our environment. Amazing.
Reason #1 why I will always support your videos and content. You guys hit all the main points when it comes to sustainable travel, so thank you, thank you, thank you for putting this out there for so many people to see! I hope you continue to make a positive difference in the world.
Thank you for your support Brittany!
This was actually a really useful video. Just one thing to add- biodegradable soaps like dr. Bronners are great but for personal soaps bar ones are another way to reduce plastic waste 👍🌿🌎
Thanks everyone for producing this video. VR "experiences" such as google earth combined with your channel gives hope.
And, slow travel is double thumbs up. So many one nighters, and I clean hotel rooms, so much tourist waste.
Love this video guys!!! Really agree with the whole eating local idea. I’d also suggest visiting places that support green initiatives. For example we just filmed in Zermatt Switzerland, or vacation on the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. Supporting tourism locations which respect our planet can also help!
The Pitt Stops love Zermatt- car free town that is powered by solar energy!
The Pitt Stops if you like golf courses, visit ones with a sand base because that can drastically reduce its amount of irrigated, mown rough - like West Palm Beach Golf Club in Florida!
First I like it and then I watch the video. It is as simple as that!
Thank you Jan!!! Enjoy your Saturday! Where are you watching from?
Enjoy too. From Switzerland!
Props to Marco on being the one to bring up the period cup 👏👏👏
You guys are always coming out with the best content. Love ya'll so much.
Xoxo from New Mexico!
Thank you for your continued support 🙏🏼
Thank you for raising awareness about Sustainable Travel! We travellers should research and understand more about our travels and the impacts. I'm so happy you guys decided to make this video. Please make more videos about Eco-Travel or especially about Ethical Animal Tourism 🙌💚🌏
We are happy to help raise awareness!
I love this video so much! Instead of the Steripen, you can buy a "Water-to-go" bottle: it works not only as your water bottle, but also as your water purifier! One filter can last you three months, or 300 liters (I think). I didn't know about the "ploging" that people are doing in Sweden, that's amazing :)
This summer I didn't want to go far because of covid. So I decided to go on holiday with some friends. Some new friends, I've never been to their houses. We went with bike from the house to one friend to the other friend. So sustainable and cheap. I'm from the Netherlands, we have I believe the best infrastructure for biking. So it's pretty save to travel by bike. Besides you're exercising.
Dr Bronner is awesome. 🙌🙌🙌 Great video guys
The packaging has some wack messages on it but the soap is good and not harmful to the planet :)
I love that you also mentioned menstrual cups. They need to be publicised more. :)
This was a thoughtful video, we are blessed with great public lands across north america, with one of the most popular national parks in my backyard...Yellowstone... thought i should add so many of the national parks are being overwhelmed with visitors and associated disruptions , amazing experiences to be had on all of the other public lands, you'll see less people more nature ....the national forests, BLM lands, wildlife refuges, our waterways and , state and local parks and just exploring the back roads, make for very satisfying amazing moments of exploration... travel...i simply cant imagine living without it in my world
Jet travel is a Catch-22. Thanks for this film it’s been much needed!
Thank you for this video guys... you are amazing!!
This video needed to be put out there! Thank you guys so much!
🙏🏼🙏🏼 thank you for watching
Thank you for bringing up ethical tourism when it comes to animals. This includes zoos, and some aquariums. There are more and more volunteer opportunities at wildlife sanctuaries that not only give you a close up and safe experience with animals but you are supporting them and a bigger cause, like Kevin Richardson in South Africa with lions or the elephant sanctuaries in Thailand!!
Great stuff guys!!!
I love this video so much... topics like these should be talked about more often. Great job, guys.
Thank you Jas!
Awesome as usual. Such great tips and so well explained. Thanks guys ;)
Love this! So important you guys.
Love how honest you are. Thank you.
Thank you for watching :)
This is so important!! Great vid!!!
Cheers Emma :)
I really love how you both travel, and how you encourage others to travel and have an appreciation for where you are. Keep doing what you're doing... we all appreciate it! And the Earth does too 😉
Awesome tips. Had to share this video with friends.
Hi brothers!!! I am from Brazil and live in the middle of amazonia.. in a city called Santarém. I am trying to learn english by watching your videos. Currently i study biology and practice bird watching. I would be great if you came to Brazil. Hopr someday you will come
Awesome Video once again. Keep it up!
I don't think I've ever loved a video this much...another Tip is to get a guppy friend, a bag for washing plastic fabrics like most fleeces without letting the micro plastic fluff into the waterways and eventually the ocean :)
Interesting we never heard of that!
Quick dry towels are usually made of microfiber synthetic materials. This usually lets out micro fibers of plastic into the water ecosystems. I would say try to avoid as many synthetic materials as you can too
Thank you for all the info, a wide variety of options to choose from to help the environment. I recently started to take with me used soaps and lotions from hotels. I finish them at home and recycle the plastic bottle afterwards.
Love this video! I have been following these tips for quite some time and I love that you guys are sharing ways to travel, and live, more sustainably!
Thank you guys I really love watching your videos keep up the good work...loubna from morocco
Plogging, that is such a cool trend!
Amazing video as always, love from Canada! :)
Thank you Tamara! Have a great weekend!
Thanks for bringing up the menstrual cup!! So cool of you guys!!
Amazing vedio very informative there are many which are generally ignored while travelling
Awesome video guys! ✌🏽
Very Interesting and informative!
Cheers J.B.
Thank you for your post!! I always travel with only one backpack! I learned from you guys.
Thanks for watching, commenting and incorporating change into your life Evelyn 🙏🏼😊
Your videos are simply AMAZING! Well done, guys!👌😍
I like this video! Very good to know that some people list reasonable or at least managable tipps for traveling whilst not doin the planet harm! Very good of you guys to adress it! I do fear that mostly people who already take care of such things have given u guys the views, but hey, maybe u did influence someone into a right direction
You guys are amazing. Thank you so much. Much love!
We appreciate the nice words Gabriel 🤘🏽
Thank you for sharing this tips ❤️
these are awesome tips!!!
Hopefully more people can use them now in the future :)
As a hotel professional, keep in mind, some hotels, such as Marriott Properties offer points by declining housekeeping services which in turn helps the use of water etc.
Always take that option if you do choose a hotel! :)
Great video ! thanks about making everybody aware about all the zero waist products :)
also great that you talk about the big impact animal agriculture has on our planet !! going veggie or vegan makes such a big difference :)
Loved this video! I really never thought about my travel foot print.....🤔thanks for the great tips!
Thanks for watching and listening 🙏🏼
Awesome guys thanks!
I love this! It really is possible to align a passion to explore with values of sustainability. Go conscious travel!
I recognized the Ireland photos immediately
Great video! Very informative and interesting. Being more eco friendly is something that has been on my mind a lot lately, especially after seeing Australia having all of those horrible fires.
You guys are definitely my favorite UA-cam travelers. Not only do you guys make an effort to travel in a way that is more environmentally sustainable but you guys also do a lot of research on each country you go to, respect every culture and try to understand them and their way of life, and provide your viewers with unique insights.
Your videos are always so much interesting! Thank you for that
Thank you for watching, liking and commenting Rosalie
Thanks for this video!
Thanks for watching and commenting Teodora
I love you even more after this video! Thanks for sharing✨
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing the tips! What I would also recommend for long distance traveling: Try to stay longer and visit the places or neighboring cities/countries in one go. This way, you can avoid a few long distances flights. That's at least our compromise.
Such an inspirational video! Good job guys!
If anyone out there is afraid of using menstrual cups or just inserting anything up in that region, also give cotton pads or thinx panties a try! Super comfortable and pretty easy to clean! Thanks for all the tips! I never knew about the carbon offset and will definitely use it on my next big trip
Great message i see so many vandalism and litter
Way too much trash just floating around :/
Great video! Its so imporant to talk about the issue of environmental change, especially in context of travelling
Another great video on sustainable travel! We love it! Do you mind if we share this video at some point as well?
JETBLUE CARBON OFFSETS!!!! BEST AIRLINE EVER
Beat video ever. Muy bueno
I travel a lot with couchsurfing is very sustainable... for us... jej good job mates
Dr. Bronner's Pure-Castille Soap 😍
Love you guys, just got back from North Shore Cabarete DR. Sweet time with Family walked into town and had great times...you totally inspire Us...bring the kiddos everywhere...especially with our Vanborgini;)
Road tripping to Cali this new year;)
Thanks for video...❤❤
You guys are sooo amazing!!! every time I watch a video I wanna pack and travel somewhere instantly !!!! love this good video! And realize I already travel at least half earth-responsibly, but ur video is amazing and useful in any case!!! you guys are my first and ever travel guide!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻good job and thanks for wonderful help and video❤️🙋🏻
Great job guys...🤗
Beautifully done, and well said guys - thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Chris :)
backpack?suitcase? recommendations? light, durable and hybrid?
Dr. Bronner's also has bar soap so you can avoid the plastic bottle.
This is a great video - the only thing that I wouldn't do is stay in Airbnbs as it's not sustainable in a lot of communities as wealthy people are buying up properties in prime locations to rent to tourists and it is causing a housing crisis. If I remember correctly it's a massive issue in some cities in Portugal at the moment. I'd recommend staying in locally owned B&B's or accommodation providers instead.
Quite good video guy's!
I also don't like flying and drive more slowly with train 😉
Excellent video
Amazing info guys! We definitely consider ourselves slow travellers and strive to share that experience. You've given us some really great new ideas.
Cool! Safe slow travels
You too!
I really loved this content.
I could add as an advice to learn how to say no straw/no plastic bag in the local language. Also for those who travel for a longer period of time, always consider donating clothes/shoes instead of throwing them away. Sometimes even the local church can help with that.
However I have to disagree with renting an airbnb. In general they are not helping the local economy (they don't pay taxes) and they actually make rent go higher for local people because of lack of renting places. This happened in Reykjavik, so I know what I am talking about.
Great suggestions and ideas. Thank you
