- In Sweden we have an interesting law where teenagers can drive full size cars limited to 20 mph on a scooter license. Join me as we meet Cindy and here 2001 Jaguar X-Type A-Tractor. It has been modified so that a 15 year old can legally drive it on the street with a scooter license.

Excellent. I know some adults who should only drive at 20mph.
Great stuff, wish I could have been allowed to drive at 15. It's 17 here in the UK.
I owned a 2005 X type Jaguar and it had a standard shift also . I received my drivers permit at 14 where I took the written test at that time .I scored 100% and could drive with a licensed driver present . At age16 on my birthday I took my driving test . I passed the driving portion of the test and was issued my first drivers license . Now at 72 I am still driving and enjoying every minute .
I got to know about that trailer hitch on the back! I'm looking for one for my s type and I'm hoping they are similar enough
A long time ago when I got my liscence in NZ, 15 was the legal age, full unrestricted license , that was in the late 80’s and was the rule for years , I know it’s changed now.
I thought this was an early April fool at first .But no it’s real.
In Scotland we have 20 mph speed limits all over the place, so we too are limited in any built up areas.
Interesting video and great for the kids.
Sense and senseability ......if only we had the same rules in the UK Adam . I learnt to drive at 11 in my father's Jaguar 3.4 mk2 . He didn't know !
Absolutely fantastic, I wish we had that when I was growing up in rural England having to wait until 16 to ride a little 50cc moped in the freezing winter..it would have been brilliant..I hope they don't stop it..
What a great idea, as others have said I wish we had that here when I was 15 ( UK) , I had to get a moped at 16 to get to work, by the time I was 18 I passed my full bike test and I never went near cars for almost a decade. My first car ( if you can call one that) was a Reliant Robin - I could drive this on a bike licence as it was classed as a trike. All changed of course when I moved to 4 wheels . Well done Cindy for choosing a great car as well.
Oh and Adam - Tell the EU to get thier nose out of Swedish driving laws ( whats that got to do with Brussels ???!!!)
That is so neat! A lot of our city centre roads in the UK are now restricted to 20mph. But kids ride electric scooters not X-Type Jags! ;)
Cant be good for a V6 doing max of 20mph. Great idea though. They may be nice and safe but deaf with that sound system!
I absolutely love xtypes! Im jealous that even at 17 insurance would hardly be worth it until you're 19 or 20 in the uk
I think the big advantage here is the speed restrictions and lack of passengers. If there were similar restrictions on young drivers here in UK, the insurance would be easier and cheaper to arrange.
I think it's great idea
Great idea as one of my boys who is 15 has just got his xj6 s3 back on the road as it has been off the road for 10 years and can’t wait to get his license
Great video’s keep it up
We have something similar in the Netherlands.
Bicycles ?
Alloys are nice on X-Type Jag.
Wonderful idea hope it keeps going for your family too
I’m a bit worried about her hearing and the structural integrity of the car if she fires up that sound system
What a cool idea-thanks for sharing, Adam. I like hearing about unique auto cultural aspects of different places. Glad to see you have budding young enthusiasts over there- I feel we have an increasing loss of car interest in young folks here in the US.
What a great idea.
That was cool Adam what a brilliant idea and Cindy is going to be Jag girl when she gets older I had to be 17 before I could drive in the Uk and like you I passed my driving test second time. best regards Andy Allen.
That's a great idea, thanks for enlightening us on what is done in Sweden. I would have never imagined such a thing but it makes sense! Also love the mods to the car!
love your channel! without your help i would never have been able to facilitate many of the repairs to my 1989 XJS V12. still sorting the merrelli ignition, but shes runnig . Thank you, and please keep the videos coming. one comment about the 20 mile per hour rule, it would not work here in the USA as it would snarl up traffic, even in the suburbs where folks would become impatient and cause accidents.
Fascinating video, thanks Adam. I for one had never heard of this "tractor" licence scheme in Sweden.
By contrast here in Alberta, Canada we allow teenagers to get learner's licences at age *14* , with which they can only drive while under the supervision of a fully-licenced adult. However, they can get a full licence of their own and drive unsupervised (with only moderate restrictions, e.g. absolutely zero tolerance for any alcohol use) at age 16. We're the only province in Canada where the licensing ages are still this low; I think only a handful of rural American states are similar.
Great idea
Surely that speed limit has to piss off other road users ?
Are those opel wheels?
Seems dangerous to drive that slow. Here in America someone would plow into the rear end texting and eating a Big Mac😂
I had to drive around fields at that age. Fun but nowhere near as cool as getting out and about.
It’s a really good law to get some new car enthusiasts
16 years old in New York USA to get a permit to drive
Video approved, click.
Sweden should tell the EU to pull its head in - why should driving rules be uniform. I suppose Brussels is fretting about emissions.
Might work for rural Sweden historically but I think youngsters should learn their place and skills on 2 wheels and not be cosseted and overindulged in cars like that… and the sound system thing is just daft !
Sweet girl!
Would drive me nuts would that here in the uk.loads of kids clogging up the allready clogged up roads driving along at 20mph in full size cars.it would be hell in the uk.no thanks,we dont want that ruling over here.good choice of car tho.
Don't let the EU ruin your way of life -SWEXIT 😄
