and meek. cuz it's clear to me that she could lay him low with only a few sentences. 😂 but she chose to leave him with some dignity and the way she explained it to him later...it was touching
Before any of the other groups there were The Barrett Sisters. Let it be known that these women had a sound that was resounding! The fact that pretty all three of them were sopranos made their sound that much more bigger and round. There will NEVER be another group to do it better!
SAY AMEN SOMEBODY is the best documentary I have ever seen! I had the pleasure of seeing the Barrett Sisters in Cambridge, MA some years ago. It was sad to see Delois in a wheelchair but it didn't take away from the concert - they were fabulous!!!! I am so glad I got to see them perform "live". It meant everything!
I remember seeing Say Amen Somebody when it first hit the movie theaters in 1982, i was 17 yrs old, and hearing the Barrett Sisters sing for the first time had everything in me wanting to shout, i sat and watched the documentary 3 times because it was so mesmerizing, uplifting and educational. I loved learning about Thomas A Dorsey, Mother Willie Mae Ford Smith, and Sallie Martin . This movie introduced me to The FABULOUS Barrett Sisters, and I have been a fan ever since. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
How I miss Aunt Delois! Now she can sing again with Aunt Billie! Both of you have made your rest! God gave both of you your wings, wings of faith to fly away to be at rest! Missing you both! Pray for the family and keep Rodessa lifted!
They are lovely ladies, especially Delores she is gorgeous. I will use "you want eggs, with your sausage?" for the rest of my LIFE to my husband! Oh and "...am I getting this over to you?" classic
Am I getting this over to you... You want eggs with you're sausage? Interpretation ... You tried me in this filming but I said what I said... you know my desire and I'm going to live my purpose driven life. Cameras rolling or not... when she tossed that spoon in sink I was like- she was pissed but she handled that.... lol oh yes she did.
Such a beautiful tribute to the legendary Barrett Sisters. One of my personal favorite singing groups of all time. I miss Mrs. Delois and it hurt so badly when I found out she had gone to glory. I hope one day to meet Rhodessa and Billie before they join their sweet sister in that heavenly choir.
These ladies!!!! Talent, beauty, intelligence, realness...! What is it like to KNOW you've done something important for God in the world? It should have been against the law for any performance not to have been recorded. RIP Ms. DeLois. A job well down. And to Ms. Billie and Ms. Rodessa, thank you. Any more we can get from you is just delicious icing on an already extraordinarily good cake.
You are right. Once I start listening to them sing I stay at it for hours. But the anointing is still strong and actually changes the atmosphere of my home. I long for that type of music in the church again.
Your so correct ....i started listening and 3hours later Pacific California time still listening. I need go to go to bed but I just want toi hear one more. Then another and another and just one more 3hours ago.
They helped SO MANY couples in the ministry because its a very real thing. It showed just how authentic and real they were about their ministries a d their lives with the Lord. We look at these Gospel giants and forget they were real people. Not superhumans. This makes meove them more than I did before. And thats a whole lot!
I love, love , LOVE the Barrett Sisters. They have blessed the world with their anointed music (accompanied with Godly living).. We need this kind of music RIGHT NOW!
@@keepingitrealandtruthful.5081 he could really play a piano, is there any footage of him at his church? I know that at that time there wasn't any cell phones.
Wow I can't believe how Beautiful this documentary is. It brings back so many memories of growing up with my Late Grandmother and Late Mother that this makes me cry just watching it. I'm sorry Im still a church kid at heart,Grown Men cry too!😂 I Love This❤❤
YESSSSSS!!!! When I first watched this movie yearrrs ago, I didn't even catch the clatter of the spoon til just now, but I caught right on to that look..even had to rewind it SEVERAL times before she even smiled ever so sweetly & said "do you want eggs to go with your sausage?" After that, I was beyond done!! Must get this movie in my collection (already have the soundtrack, but having seen the interviews just makes me want it more!)
This was a staple at our family gatherings. We wore the VHS tape so badly that I eventually had to purchase the DVD. That scene along with Sister Martin and Sister Willie Mae quipping over where the convention first started was too enjoyable.
I had never heard of the Barrett Sister until I seen this documentary of HBO or PBS. Mrs Delois was so true because I became a lifelong fan of their gospel performance. All the way to the end with Mrs. Delois homegoing funeral service. They were a joy and delight whenever I could see and hear them perform.
Wow that had to be hard for her as a wife to tell her husband a Pastor in the Lords church tht I want do my own ministry the Lord has given when the Words says wives submit urselves to husbands but I’m glad her husband was understanding to release her n let her n her sisters the the gospel they have blessed thousands of people n their ministry ..God bless the Barrett sisters RIH two of them one is still living 🙏🏽
I disagree. “Taking it to Jesus” is a cop-out used to cover a lot of dysfunctional behavior. This sister did the right thing and communicated what she meant with her husband. He was being selfish and she basically told him that in a loving way. He got the message.
No she traveled when she was with The Roberta Martin Singers…..but I believe they did more abroad traveling due to the exposure they received from the film Say Amen Somebody
No disrespect to her husband. May the Holy Father bless his soul, but I didn't care for her husband. He was keeping her small instead of encouraging her. She was a great talent. She should have been singing to thousands, and he should have been supporting her dream, not limiting her to just himself and his relatively small ministry. It just seemed selfish to me.
Plus, why would you marry Delois Campbell and then expect her to just be the First Lady of your little folding-chairs church? He knew who she was. I wish I had her self control. Many’s the argument I could have saved myself from if I could just air a breath and say, You want eggs … with your sausage?
She took a deep breathe. She composed herself. She was like-lets change the subject. Classy and Classic.
Classic, gracious lady!

Rhodessa had one of the most powerful soprano voices in her prime. Even in her 80s it's still arresting, but in it's prime it was FIRE!
Could hit those high notes really easy
Always loved

Their music brings conviction upon the hearer. People can get saved with this kind of singing...and then live right!
You're right ... their voices, along with the conviction of the Gospel they sang with, had the power to draw folks to Christ.

Wow! I knew about Deloris, but my God, all them Barrett girls could holler! And, Mrs. Rodessa still at it!
I recently got the Barrett Sisters doc DVD and wish they had gotten better recognition and recordings both visual and sound !
I like how the musician is telling them to breathe before they started. That's true musican and singer connection.
That the late Charles Pikes he was the minister of music where Roberta Martin was for years.
