      Firas just went too hard and had a stance where you can't see shots that are coming, but the tradeoff is that you have no guard and can be knocked out with a heavy hook - a stance that only works in sparring when you're trolling and know the opponent won't try to actually knock you out. It was actually kinda disrespectful.

      @The Forms: you know, i have to respectfully disagree. First, i would say that Firas is a world class coach and he knows exactly how much pressure to put on someone. Next, i could tell just by watching that Shane was really nervous and he wasn't giving his best because of it (which is perfectly fair) and Firas putting on some heat eventually drew Shane out of his nervousness and into the sparring. Plus, Shane is putting himself out there as a fight coach. Its perfectly reasonable that we get to see what Shane looks like under pressure. And coach Zahabi is a bigger guy with quite decades of world class experience across multiple disciplines: he can apply a lot of pressure. Which brings me to my final point: if you think Firas was bullying Shane then you are mistaken. Shane actually did really damn good. He caught Firas a few times. He defended well against Firas a few times. Firas is bigger, longer, and way more seasoned, but Shane made a very respectable showing of himself.

    Firas is my coach as well (grappling). What I can say, after many years of watching him spar the best pros in the world, is that he could be a high level competitor. I have watched him technically decimate great fighters time and time again. Many people ask me, “Firas never competed in mma, how do we know he is credible?” I always say, pick a fighter and watch him spar with Firas. You realize within minutes that he could compete in the UFC, if he chose to. Also, he is a Canadian Muay Thai champion, who in my opinion is a superior grappler. Respect coach.

      @@paragon1782 I know Firas has own channel, it is not in the same level of educational purposes as Shane's channel. To say Firas's channel is better would be wrong as Firas's channel post fight analysis, random tips, etc. Shane's channel is to actually teach techniques, fighting tips, etc. In short, both are completely different channels.
      Haha, I wonder how many Martial Arts channels you view if you are going to say FightTips is one of the worst channels. Surely Shane's channel is not as bad as Howcast MMA/Boxing video.
      Edit: Don't forget in my original comment, I am talking about online teaching about fighting. Channels that are fight analytics oriented do not count.

    Firas’ real-time adjustments and breathing are incredible. Of course, his footwork, speed, use of range, and head movement are also impressive. Good on Shane for being able to apply some offense against such a skilled partner. The trade off of eating the stiff jab to land the right hand was a good choice too, I think.

    The harder Zahabi hits, the more Fasen wants to signal to go easier and hesitates with his shots, and it becomes a negative feedback loop. You're sparring with different intentions. I've experienced the same in sparring with someone for the first time. You should've agreed to the level and speed before you began. That said, excellent rounds.

    • @paragon1782
      @paragon1782 4 роки тому +11

      Touch sparring in boxing is the most boring thing to watch and it doesn't do much for your timing. It's unrealistic and I appreciate firas bringing in the intensity and making it a clip that can be studied as a realistic spar.

      @@paragon1782 Yep, soft sparring is the way to go, and from what you write, I can tell you've done a lot of sparring.
      Giovanni, you haven't got any idea what you're talking about man. What we talked about was the uneven intensity and how Firas sabotaged this sparring session to look cool, which is something you can *feel* if you've done as much sparring as I have. Please don't talk about this unless you've done hundreds of hours of sparring with different partners. It's painfully obvious that Firas is showing off and semi-competing, while fight tips is going soft and doesn't have the same intentions. When someone is holding back, it's super disrespectful to go for a style with your hands down and slapping punches the way Firas did here. It's a way of saying: "because you're allowing me to get away with nonsense, I'm gonna do it and make you pay for it".
      No, just respect that this is his video channel and you're gonna do some playful sparring to show off techniques. Don't make idiots who've never sparred before think that you're this badass who owns people, because they're holding back.

    This was a good sparring session. I think both really enjoyed and learned a lot. I liked the footwork and angling from Firas that made Shane a little too late to respond and was more focussing on defence instead of offence. But I also like Shane never giving up in the pocket and get his defence tight and focused. Like sparring. Very nice!
