I know a super sweet story. The couples was discussing marriage and engagement rings, and she explained that she wanted a specific type of diamond. She understood that it was expensive, and she was happy to wait until they had saved the money to buy it. She jokingly said she was happy to wear "an old dried our rubber band" in the meantime. So, years later when he proposed he brought out an elaborate velvet box. He said it was very romantic, on the beach with the sun setting. He proposed, and opened the box... and inside was a old dried out rubber band. She was so thrilled they were getting married, and as he went to put it on her finger, it SNAPPED AND BROKE, and she burst into tears "That's my engagement ring!" He responded "Wait! I have another one!" And pulled the actual diamond ring she had always wanted from his pocket. ❤️❤️❤️
They've been married at least 25-30 years now.
That's a rule i standby, its not about the ring, is about the love. I'd marry my partner no matter what they propose with. Since we're both young right now though we've come to the agreement off, getting cheaper rings now, then in the future taking some time away from work and family, a second honeymoon persay, were we renew our vows and "upgrade" our rings. A sweet way to keep it fresh I like to think

Exactly, the style is chaotic but somehow fits. Definitely fits their overall vibe as a couple.
These rings just scream 'Hyuna and Dawn' ... it really reflects who they are and their aesthetic.
The super unique rings IMO aren't just because they're "Kpop" but because they are THE HyunA and DAWN.
It's been years since i stop keeping up with Kpop but I remember HyunA and DAWN broke many unwritten rules in Kpop, they made quite a scandal and I'd say, changed a major part of how Kpop world work as well.
Kpop idols have really strict dating ban that a relationship could literally end their career if caught. I'm not joking when i say getting caught dating in Kpop = getting caught doing drugs/crimes. It's a really messed up thing that went on for years in the industry.
DAWN was a new artist back then, debuted in the same company as HyunA. HyunA was (still is) already huge in Kpop world, literally the money-maker of the company Cube. After getting caught dating, both of them got their contracts terminated. Cube's stonks dropped like no other because like i said, HyunA was their money-maker. They realised their mistake and tried to get them back into the company but the couple just went "f u" and just... started spamming their Instagram with pictures of them on dates 😂.
I remember it happened within just a few days and i was like wth just happened??? Did they just kick out THE HyunA??? And then the couple went off for a year and signed with P-Nation led by PSY. Their love story has already widely well-known because of all the scandals so it comes in handy to market them as a couple in the first place.
You just made me so emotional/nostalgic for them. oh my god I’m so happy for them. They’ve come so far

I have no words to describe, how much I love these rings. They're unique and colorful and playful in a fun, non pretentious way. While at the same time a display of gorgeous stones and craftsmanship.
I'm planning to do something similar with stones from inherited jewelry, I wouldn't otherwise wear. Just probably as a pendant with matching earrings, since I don't like wearing awkwardly large rings.
My mother & I received several engagement rings from elder deceased relatives. The ring sizes were really big, the diamonds accent size. My mom’s mother’s engagement ring was a ruby & we had that as well. They remained in jewelry boxes for years. Then not knowing what to do with them we took them to a small local jeweler & asked him to design a ring using the stones & a whimsical design & the gold to form the ring. It’s very pretty. I wish I could show it to you. The gold loops around the top, leaving room for the bigger ruby. Th various sized diamonds are sprinkled around like stars. I should send pictures of it to the goldsmith.
What a fabulous idea you guys! What a fun way to keep on loving the gems and metals of your family! I had all my old gems removed and placed in a bezel glass “jar” with small nuggets of gold I panned with my dad. That turned out pretty, but a bit large for everyday wear. I would love to see what you come up with!💛

I feel like Dawn chose Opal because it represents their love? They're so extravagant, us against the world type of couple but they know deep down that their love is so deep and they will always have a soft spot for each other. Yes, it's quite fragile like a love story. So they need to protect it, nourish it, so it'll become stronger. I don't know man, just guessing or maybe he just love the color lol

Before I even watch this, I’ve been a HyunA fan for almost a decade. She is my ultimate bias!! Her getting married to a man she loves that makes her happy is a dream come true for me. He’s also adorable and talented. And the icing on top are these spectacular rings!!!! I love love love the stones and setting they chose, absolutely stunning and elegant. Now I wait for the wedding dress….

Not my style, but I love it!!! These are such amazing rings, and I am obsessed about the natural organic feel of them, and the craftsmanship involved!
Honestly I think these rings show how much Dawn knows Hyuna and their style as a whole. I think she would've happily accepted the usual type of ring, but she has such unique style that these rings just scream THEM and Dawn clearly took the time to make sure the rings represented them both perfectly.
These are very dramatic, they kind of look like they were found in the ocean like a buried treasure, beautiful ! Awe I wish I could have a cat - I'm allergic unfortunately, but I have been a masochist and taken care of my friends' cats at their houses so I would only spend an hour or so :) - aaaaand one more purr for you Kingsley!
The ring is not for me but it makes a lot of much sense to me, knowing who they are and given their known style.
Background on the couple and why I'm not surprised with how bold their choice of engagement ring is (especially when you consider how conservative Korea is):
Dawn and HyunA met within the same K-Pop agency; Dawn (stage name then E'Dawn) was part of boy group Pentagon (debut 2016) and HyunA was a fairly popular singer originally from girl group Wonder Girls (2007) as well as solo singer (2010). Both were under agency Cube Entertainment at the time. It's changing now with more and more agencies allowing more freedom to their idols, but back then dating was absolutely banned both inside and outside the company (generally, most idols don't have time for dating which is its own issue, but boy groups are especially marketed as "your boyfriend" tropes and types, fans get weird). They started dating in secret while they were both still under Cube, though likely some group members knew to help them sneak out/there's definitely compilations out there of awkward moments that now make sense. It's incredibly risky to do something that is a contract breaking offense (that they signed) and especially risky for newly debuted idol groups who might not necessarily succeed anyways. HyunA has said before they started dating in 2016 (the same year that Pentagon debuted and Dawn's first year as an idol).
Eventually the company found out and Dawn's contract was terminated in 2018 for both his personal contract with Cube and his membership as part of Pentagon; for reference, not many idols make it as a solo artist and this was kind of a scandal. HyunA was also terminated for the same reason ("lack of trust"); as terrible as this is, HyunA was and is fairly popular and already a debuted/tenured idol/solo artist so it wasn't particularly surprising that she (and Dawn as well) ended up signing with P-Nation with in a couple months. Scandals though tend to follow artists and considering artists are generally trainees for years with no clear confirmation they will debut, a lot of these secret relationships usually break up at the risk of their chosen careers and/or from their careers possibly ending (idols generally train from their high school years, Dawn debuted pretty late at 22 and HyunA at the average age at the time of 15).
Musically, they've always been stylistically a bit "unique" so the bold design isn't a surprise. Add in the fact their relationship was also a lot of very strong commitment and bold choices, that bravery to do the unique is also kind of a given. As much as Korea is fairly flexible for KPop in style, the country is still very conservative as a whole and you'll notice the artists are expected to kind of conform to expectations, so them refusing to conform even at the expense of their contracts and outside of traditional expected wedding bands... well... these rings are entirely them and it isn't really a surprise at all. It's well designed and created for their personalities and it is so clear there was a lot of time spent.

There was also a lot of talk that they were given the chance to end the relationship to save Dawn's career, but he chose love over fame.
@@kirstinbone for sure it probably happened. HyunA is a big enough name at the time for an agency to be a bit flexible (like honestly, pnation picked the duo up so fast more for HyunA than Dawn). And realistically, no way a bunch of teens dont end up dating in "secret" within the agency here and there for there not to be a procedure to clear it up without losing the money invested in idols (since training is the company paying for lessons, living, etc)
@@haenahkim oh absolutely. There's a reason dating "scandals" have been so prevalent throughout kpop. And then you have people like Chen from EXO who hide an entire fiance and then suddenly are like "oh we are having a baby."
And honestly, after 4Minute disbanded I'm not shocked PNation made Hyuna an offer. Psy and Hyuna already had a good working relationship, and he knows what it's like for the industry to have absurd standards. I'm just glad Dawn and Hyuna are blazing their own way together.

My ring is an open pokeball with a garnet on the inside and "I choose you" engraved inside the band. My husband's is a flat band with an engraved closed pokeball on the outside and "I choose you" engraved on the inside. So we have complimentary rings with a unified theme but they aren't the same ring.
The thing that I want to point out is that the gold ring on top is a couple ring that hyuna got for them a couple years ago and I just think that it’s super cute that they’re wearing them together

The Opals are incredible, and make sense for a celebrity who can take them off often or replace the opals when needed after damage. I love the addition of the two gold cross rings. Definitely not my style, but love it for them 😊

OMG! These two have the most beautiful rings I have ever seen! I have several pieces with an “organic” shape and non traditional mix and size of stones. From the outside looking in, those rings represent many sides of the whole! Obviously these two beautiful people don’t live in a box! BEAUTIFUL! I understood there to be a coating that can be put over the opal to make it more durable for everyday wear. Best wishes always to the amazing couple💛

I love the uniqueness of these rings. I really enjoy non-diamond rings. My friends mom had a hint pearl wedding ring. It’s gorgeous- but I know I’m too rough on my hands to get a softer stone.
The rings aren´t my personal preference but I LOVE how much these rings represent their personalities and styles. Some people might not understand the choice but it makes total sense for these 2

Oh my God I love your videos so much!! To be honest I had no idea Hyuna and Dawn got engaged! WOW so happy for them!!! The kpop world is SO judgy and super tough on idol couples, they receive incredible amount of hate and bad rep for being public with their relationship (it's like the media and the obsessive fans want their faves to be single virginal and pure forever) it's sooo different from the western world! Whenever there's a couple that dares the break the mold, they usually crumble under pressure and split apart, but these two have endured it all! I wish them the very best! The rings are incredibly unique, like them! I adored this! (AND THE CAT!)

That is one of the most gorgeous rings I have seen! Those opals are FANTASTIC! So colorful! So FUN! I also love the organic style. My friend does a lot of settings like that. I gotta say I personally would way prefer something playful and interesting like this than a traditional diamond solitaire. And you be so right about the opals though. I had a friend who REALLY wanted an opal wedding ring. It was beautiful....for a couple years. Then it became majorly cracked. And...not that I am an expert or anything...but I THIIIINK those are Ethiopian opals.

that is a super cool idea for an engagement ring - definitely out there! i'm not sure whether there is any truth to this, but i've always heard that opals (and pearls) should be worn frequently, because they have such a high water content in them and having it against or close to your skin replenishes the stone. is this a thing at all?
in regards to people saying that megan fox's and these rings look cheap, my guess is that people (especially in the west, where engagement rings have been a tradition for a long time) are very much used to more classic, neutral and, arguably, "safer" designs because it's a piece that would be worn everyday and should go with a lot of things. many people aren't used to seeing a giant emerald that's so strikingly green, or colored diamonds that look playful, so perhaps their minds go immediately to cz's that are in cheap costume jewelry? as far as having to spend a certain amount (or the whole x months' salary thing) on an engagement ring, that's just madness to me. it's like if you don't spend enough then the assumption is that you love your partner less? pfft...
Megan Foxs ring does not look cheap. It's classic with a twist due to the green gem. I thought it was a tasteful one tbh.

My parents were too tight on money to get engagement rings, after many years they bought my mother a beautiful opal ring EXCEPT that she forgot to take it off whilst doing the dishes....NOTE opals get destroyed colour wise with dishwashing liquid!!!

I think it has a lot to do with type and the cut of the stone. Some stones are treated to enhance the colour. My aunt had an opal engagement ring. My uncle died after ten years of marriage and she still wears it more than 20 years later. She never took it off, being an avid gardener and athlete. Although, I doubt you would catch her near the stove or sink very often. Maybe that's why it is going strong.

The most loved and stable kpop couple ❤️ I love that you reacted to them. Especially hyuna has been through so much during her long career that I admire the strength and confidence she has now. Those two fit together so so well - he's literally her boy version - and bring out the best in each other that it's just logical that they got the same ring. They're both so bold, colorful, sometimes provocative which is not normal and very brave in the Korean music industry. Both of them got kicked out of their company when word got out that they were dating bc dating is a scandalous topic in kpop. But that didn't bring them down (there's even a video of hyuna dancing while she walks out of that company). They now make music together in their new company and look so free and happy. I'm usually not that invested in celebrity relationships but I'm really rooting for them.

My friend had an opal as her center stone. They purchased 2 opals when they got the ring because they knew it might be an issue. They cracked both opals and replaced with diamond before the wedding. Cute idea, but not practical.

I use to date a guy who worked at a pawn shop for 20 years and would argue with me constantly about colored diamonds and would say that they are worthless. I love colored diamonds and wanted some nice pieces in my jewelry collection. Thank you so much for proving my point that they are not and are in fact extremely expensive.

I love these rings! I know you already mentioned that opals are fragile and easily damaged, but from what I see these are Ethiopian opals, which are hydrophane, meaning they absorb water, oils, and even smoke. In a piece worn every day like an engagement ring I'm afraid they won't keep their bright colors for very long. I wish they picked a non porous opal like Australian!!!
