    For a skill that seems to be so confusing for many beginning knitters, you have provided a clear and concise video that is easy to understand and follow. The best one that I have seen. Thank you for all of your really great tutorials.

    I love all the outdoor noises in this video. Good audio and video quality, no scratchiness or out of focus picture, great step-by-step for a complete n00b. Thank you.

    I bought a kit a year ago to make an afghan for our great grand daughter to come. I had so much trouble with the instructions that I put it away and made another pattern. The good news is that I taught myself to knit backwards while making it. I must thank you profusely for your video. Because of your video and great instructions I am successfully making the entrelac kit. I find it easier to knit backwards rather than turn but without you I would have given up THANK YOU.

    I am a pretty good knitter, but, when I decided to try interlac I thought okay....well the instructions I was following were 100x more complex than yours. I have noticed there are many ways to start this, but, all come out the same basically.....BUT YOURS is the easiest to follow!!!! You explain it slowly and well, and easy to pause and catch up!!!!! Thank You Happy Knitting!!!!! DEB :)

    I have been knitting and crocheting for many years and was growing very bored with the various patterns and stitches. Then I received my Mary Maxim catalog and on the front was a beautiful shaded afghan done in Entrelac. It sounded difficult but I tackled it and am sooo Happy to be knitting again in my usual cheerful state. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! This video made learning so easy and fun.

    I absolutely love the way you teach. You show more than you talk and that is priceless. Also, it helps that you hold the yarn on your left hand, which is how I do it. Being a beginner, it's confusing to follow the instructions when people yarn on their right hand. Thanks a million!

    Hi, I enjoyed your tutorial videos on entralac very much. I've been knitting approximately 2 1/2 years, self taught from a beginners kit, it's been therapeutic so far. I've made four so far using different needle sizes which I think makes each one different, ones regular (slim) and others bulky. As a novice I'm grateful for all the tutorials, thank you very much, Im looking forwards to the next pattern I can try, I haven't gotten entralac out of my system yet LOL, Jorge

  • @Marny5580
    @Marny5580 11 років тому

    It took me 40 years to finally get up the courage to try entralac. Between UA-cam and a couple of websites, I did it! At first, I frogged the first row of triangles because it didn't look right to me.
    I finally realized tha it WAS correct - and I proceeded.
    You will be absolutely surprised at how really entrelac is--and would be easier to learn the backward knitting which would negate the turning.
    I don't mind the turning ...
    Thank you for this video!

    I like your videos, I pick some yarn at a garage sale and this half finish scarf was in a bag, it has the words Entrelac written on paper and I'm new to knitting, so I had idea it was so pretty. It makes a slightly neater decrease. Instructions typically given for SSK are to slip both stitches knitwise, but either way is correct. It is personal choice, whatever is most comfortable.

    I'd love to see pictures of what you made! You really don't have to block your entrelac items if you don't want to. A lot of knitters don't because they like the puffy look of the fabric. Blocking is entirely up to you and your taste preferences. For my shawl I show in the video, I wanted a flatter smooth look so blocked.

    Since you aren't turning your work I'd say you want to start the entrelac at the beginning of the knit row, rather than when you work back. You probably wouldn't have to do triangles, you could just start doing short rows and do rectangles rather than the base triangles. That might work better since you already have some fabric going.

    I played around with entrelac when I was still a fairly new knitter, but I didn't knit anything big like this wrap for years. I find all the turning kind of annoying, honestly! Just try starting out small, like the sample in this video. It takes practice. It's ok if you don't catch on to something right away. I also have a video on entrelac in the round. If you are comfortable using circular needles, try circular entrelac first; that may help with knitting it flat.

    At first it will be intimidating - and after a few rows you will find out how really easy this is.
    After a few finished rows, you will find that you won't need to look at the pattern! How cool is that! Well, ok - for the side 1/2 triangles I still have to look.

    Your videos are an enormous part of how I learned how to knit. You are so clear and articulate, as are your knitting movements, and I further appreciate your explanations as to why you do certain things. I loved seeing how your slipped stitch created a clean & easy edge to pick up. I've been wondering, though- you ssk by slipping the 1st knitwise and the 2nd purlwise, and so many others do so many different things when the directions don't note specific directions; does it truly matter how one slips?

    • @iknitwithcatfur
      @iknitwithcatfur  7 років тому

      If instructions don't specify, the rule of thumb is to slip purlwise. When I SSK, I like to sl 1 kwise and the second pwise because it makes it a little neater, but it is really personal preference.

    I've wanted to try this ever since I saw this video. I am a very new knitter and I have a bit of work in the stockinette stitch which I want to let flow over into entrelac. Instead of the purl, however, I do mirror knitting, like you mentioned. How do I know where to start with the triangles (after knit row or after mirror knit row?) and do the triangles work the same way if you already have some more rows?
