Keep at it mate. I was a reactor operator for the Navy. I'll make less doing this then trying to get in at some civilian reactor, but this honestly seems like such an awesome job. I'm super jelly this guy is already doing the job (getting paid is nice too 😅).
I just graduated from Airstreams Renewables inc. There is a school based out of Tehachapi, CA that's a 8 week Accelerated course. I'd highly recommend.

I have been 1 year working as a Wind Turbine Technician, and i relate to that 100%, it´s not an easy job but when i see a wind turbine working it gives me a great sense of hapiness. Good Luck to you :)

@@abdulrdiallo6366 For the most part yes, they do have a new policy where they deduct your gwo and other trainings that are necessary for the wind from your first checks. Since it is winter work is very slow, it usually picks up in about a month when the weather is a little warmer.

We also had a weather event last night in East Texas. Your AJ was insisting we get up at 4am. Raining pretty hard, thunder & lightening. He may have needed to go out too; but I told him no way! I located the flashlights, candles & matches. Also, cooked some ground hamburger to top AJ's brown rice I cooked earlier. I fed him taking the risk he'd insist on an out side trip...poor dog. But, he calmed down and went on back to his comfy place. So, we did too. No rain by 9am so he and I took a long walk out to the highway and back. Rained again for a few hours... then I think we are done with rain for a week. Walk about 4 times today! Let us know when you get your week to come home. AJ probably misses your taking him to the dog park! Pretty HOT here tho! I miiss you too. Lu ya, MOM ~HUGS~❤

@@Jack-wy6wc I forgot what certificates I get do you remember. For the first 3 months its all very very easy confidence building and goal seeking. Was great. Then electrical came and i only have 2 weeks left of it hopefully. 10 weeks total. Also easy just make sure to study just like you did in school.

Honestly I haven't travel to much but honestly what I've been doing is get a hotel with a fridge or get a ice chest go to like Walmart or family dollar and buy a little plug in stove and a pan and cook in the hotel room if you're getting a lot of per diem you can save a lot honestly the hardest part of this job is watching your weight since most of the time you're in a hotel room
That's exactly what I do. I usually get a skillet and just cook in my room. I save money and eat healthier. Watching weight is difficult. But I might have a few fun things to suggest on a future video soon.
Im working in Compressed gas delivering it to the oilfield sites $2500 a week just driving not bad at all. NEXTIER POWER SOLUTIONS MIDLAND TEXAS BY THE WAY

Hey there sir, I’m currently in the Air Force as a generator tech with extensive knowledge in mechanical and electrical functions. I have 6 years experience dealing with generators and doing the PM. My questions for you is as a travel tech what do you make and hour and then with per diem? Also how long do you typically go out on the road and after that trip how much time are you given back home? Thank you for your service to our country. I actually just posted a video covering this very topic if your interested. But to answer your question, hourly pay depends on the company and the field of wind energy you are looking to go into. My experiences have shown most companies, right out of the gate, offer $20 to $23 with per diem ranging from $100/day to $150/day. Most guarantee 40hrs. But this industry takes care of the ones that show determination and dedication that make it past the probationary period. This isn't for everyone, but the ones that stick to it start seeing better offers and rewards and for sure get offered more of those big bucks that are usually associated with this career path. I'm working with guys that have 2 years in me that are making almost $8s more than me. They started off at the same per hour I did with the same experience. So the is room to grow. You can expect to be out at least 6 weeks at a time. But then you are able to take a week. R&R tribes vary, but you get treated like a human being in this field. Just communicate your needs. Great question. The answer is a fluid one. And one that I'll go over more in a video soon, but the short answer is that it all depends on where you are and what kind of arrangement you are ok with. Tempered standards leaves more green backs in your pocket.
Hey quick question man. Do you think it's best getting hands on training for this field? PCI is offering online classes but I'm 2nd guessing going that route.
Any education you can get that gets your mind involved and your interests up is great, and most likely good enough to get your foot in the door to this industry. But in my opinion, hands on training is the way to go. Tangible clarity on if this is the kind of career you want to be involved in. Put yourself in scenarios that allow you to ask questions about this career that you might not have thought about just answering questions online. I went to school during the thick of "bug" and got very limited time with hands on scenarios. I wish I would've had a chance to do more, but I'm grateful for what I did get to do, especially during that time.

Just curious: Is lodging generally covered by the company, or by the techs themselves?
Yes and no. It's all provided by your company in some fashion. Some companies offer an option with less daily per diem and they pay for lodging. Don't do this. The hotel choice is usually the only hotel choice in done of these areas. You will most likely end up losing out on the difference in per diem. Take the full per diem option offered and you can find and pay for your own hotel. Most places will cut you a weekly rate. Just temper your standards. Expect to pay $300 to $400 weekly or of your per diem.

Hey quick question for the traveling techs! Do you receive nightly calls in this industry? I have no problem being away from home and traveling, but my weak side would be sleep deprivation from an inconsistent sleep schedule. Just asking because so far my research is telling me all servicing on turbines is done in daytime unless you are in the construction field installing wind turbines. Thanks.

It depends upon your qualifications, if you have some engineering background you can step into it easily else you need sone tranings and certificates depending upon where u want to step in, wind business is a ocean

There are different roles which needs different training, the 3 weeks traning you're referring is i guess GWO, thats the basic safety training to be abke to climb up the tower,

Hello, how many hours do you work per day?
Guaranteed 40 hours with many opportunities to get OT. We usually try to hit 60 hours in the week. On a biweekly check, that's 120 hours plus your weekly per diem.
