In the books there are more references to things Jon and Robb did together. Throwing snowballs at people together. Pretending to be ghosts in the winter fell crypts etc. In the books Robb names Jon his heir after Bran and Rickon are thought to be dead and Sansa gets married to Tyrion. It's very apparent that he really misses Jon later especially after Theon's betrayal. Personally, I don't think Robb would have been killed or lost the war with Jon by his side. Robb was the better commander but Jon the calculating tactician. The perfect hand. But alas were still waiting on the book ending. Weird they never finished the show but eh, that probably would have turned out mediocre at best.
